These first two are brand new furs. They just hit the LA fabric market and then my doorstep (today!). The green isn't quite the right color for my needs, and the teal is actually virtually identical to a fur I already have several yards of. Oops. They are the same pile, about 1" realistic "rabbit" style fur. Thick, soft, beautiful fur. Each is slightly darker towards the tips, which is a little more noticeable in the green, barely noticeable in the teal. Each 1 yard cut is $30. (As these are brand new furs, unlike the others here I'm charging what I paid.)

Fursuit ref sheets!
Posted 10 years agoCurrent status: Open
Hey guys! I make various forms of reference art for each of my projects, and I really enjoy doing it. So I thought I'd open for some fursuit ref sheets to work on when I'm not working on actual suits :)
Example! http://www.furaffinity.net/view/16229545/
These are designed for commissioning fursuits, so flat colors, no extra expressions, and fursuit-possible designs only. They will of course work just fine if you'd like to commission other art, however :)
Prices:
2 views (front and back): $50
3 views (front, back, side): $70
Further info:
-You will get sketch approval and inks/colors approval, and final approval.
-I can include any text info you like, as well as a "zoom in" for smaller details.
-Base prices are for average complexity. Crazy markings, detailed wings, etc may increase the quote.
-If desired I can advise you on color choices based on what fur is available.
Send me an email at cassie[at]8footrabbit.com if you're interested!
Current queue:
1. Poppy bear [complete]
2. Siivet otter [complete]
3. Torq [complete]
4. Logan [in progress]
5.

Posted 11 years agoI haven't posted a journal in 2 years! Hai FA. Hey so I'll be at FC. See ya there maybe!
BTW doing a panel on fursuit design - specifically using references and concept art to get the best result. It's called "Everything's not a dog" and it's Saturday at 6pm. Be there! It'll be radical.

New Account!
Posted 13 years agoAC plans
Posted 13 years agoHey guys! Just a short update. Finished Seph's head today, so that will ship soon, look out for photos! Now I'm jumping right on to a bodysuit, paws, and feet for a collab.
I will NOT be going to AC as planned, my boyfriend and I have a lot of other travel this year and an expensive weekend in Pittsburgh just wasn't in the cards, haha. But I will miss everyone terribly! I hope everyone who is going has an amazing time.
Back to work!

Upcoming commissions/quotes
Posted 13 years agoHey guys! I've had some inquiries so I thought I'd update you on new commission plans.
I want to finish a couple more projects in my queue before I take on anything else, so that I don't have a long scary list OR super-long wait times. So with that in mind, I am tentatively planning to open for quotes around mid-June. I hope to fill just a handful of slots, and this batch will be started in the fall. I'll post another journal closer to then with more details.
EDIT: I decided not to open until after everything in my queue is finished. Expect more info early fall.

Back from FC!
Posted 14 years agoWe just got home from FC to fresh snow in Seattle! It has been a very mild fall and winter, so this was a surprise. But we love snow so we are excited (now that we're home with no mishaps of course).
FC was a blast, it is definitely my favorite con. I met a bunch of awesome people, hung out with good friends, and of course suited, danced, and just had a great time! One of the reasons I love FC is San Jose itself. Nice weather, easy travel for us west-coasters, and great food options. I actually thought the new location was pretty good. Not the Fairmont of course (that was an awesome conspace, sniff) but at least for those in the Marriott I thought it worked out all right.
One highlight was Saturday's Masquerade. I've never done that before and I hardly ever get on stage for anything, so I was REALLY nervous, but it turned out great. People laughed during my skit and Evergreen won first place in the novice class! That was exciting ^^ I got a little acrylic bone saw, it's pretty rad. I can't remember the last time I won something!
Anyhoo, now that we're home I'm excited and inspired to get back to work. Through March will be really busy with some commissions :) After that I have an auction partial to finish and a pretty complex suit I'd like to finish for AC in June. I'm making that one to test a bunch of new (to me) techniques, so it should be fun!

FC FUZZIES
Posted 14 years agoMeme time! I deleted the really awesome questions like "can I lovingly caress your buttocks while gazing slack-jawed over your shoulder" because, really, if the answer were yes you'd definitely know.
Hotel:
Mariott
Arrival/Departure:
Thursday mid-day
Staying in the main hotel:
I think it's the "main" main hotel?
Means of transportation:
Zeppelin
Sharing a room with:
BijouWolf
Who do you hang out with:
Ummmm a variety of people? I know a ton of CA furs now that I can't wait to see, and of course lots of others! I am hanging out with all the things.
Gender:
Female
How old are you:
32, bitches
Are you an Artist:
Yes
Are you a Fursuiter:
Ja
How many Fursuits are you going to bring/wear:
Just two, Evergreen and Blackberry.
Any new suits or characters Debuting:
Nope, too busy this fall to make a new personal suit I had planned. Always another con, though!
Attending parties:
I know of at least two that friends are having shindigs, and they do tend to just happen, so it's pretty much assured.
Do you drink:
Yep! Though if I don't kick this cold soon I may not get too crazy :P
Do you smoke:
Tobacco is gross.
Are you attending any panels:
Probably one or two, I used to go to a lot but they tend to repeat. I will always attend fursuit building panels if the panelists are good. Lance's panel at FC last year was awesome!
Stage or public performance:
Probably going to do the Masquerade for the first time @_@
How do I identify my self to you:
Just introduce yourself! Show your badge so I see your character. Assuming I'm not deep in conversation it's all good. I may not remember you if we are only acquainted online--heck, I may not remember you if we've met in RL. I am bad with names, please don't take it personally :) Anyhoo, I don't think anyone has ever introduced themselves to me at a con, so if you feel the urge you will probably make my day.
Rules of engagement (physical Contact out of Suit):
I'm actually fine with hugs as long as they are of the brief, platonic variety that would pass muster at a middle school function. Nothing LINGERING AND WEIRD m'kay?
What's the best way to find you:
If I'm out of suit, look for a head of hot pink hair or @ me on Twitter (I check my phone constantly at cons and get notifications, so this is a great way to contact me). I'm MissSkyote on Twitter. I will also be hoofin' it with a clan of Mixed Candy goats over the weekend, so look out for that chaos :D
Do you do trades:
Sometimes, but not at cons.
Are you nice:
I think so! But I'm biased.
If I see you, how should i get your attention:
"Skyote" or "Cassie" both work - yes, it's totally cool for you to call me by my real name. And "Skyote" is pronounced like you combined "husky" and "yote" and then skipped the beginning. I would probably answer to Evergreen or Blackberry, too, who knows.
Can I buy you breakfast, lunch, or dinner sometime:
Do people do this? I mean, that would be awesome. But in reality probably awkward. So no, unless you are a friend who owes me money.
Can I take a picture of ya:
Yay pictures! As long as you aren't talking about pictures with a telephoto from across the street.
Are you going to commission art at the con:
Probably? I haven't even had time to see who will be there.
Anything to add:
I am super duper excited for a group sushi dinner, so that better happen. Also we may be pretty free on Tuesday because we have a later flight, so will probably find something fun in SJ to do that day.

Back from RF
Posted 14 years agoCon weekend officially over, sniff! We had a great time, didn't suit much but spent a ton of time hanging out with people! That's what it's about. I went to a couple panels, a suit building talk with
nicodemusrat and
beetlecat, and a panel on making stuffed animals and dolls with
Klickitat,
matrices, and
savannahhorrocks. They are all amazing and I loved seeing their works up close. Both Savi and
jill0r had new art dolls at the con, and they inspired me to try that some day. But I'm definitely going to try some stuffed animals soon!
mrskyote (Bijou) and I hosted a room party on Saturday night which was a new experience, but successful! Probably wouldn't do it again without a suite, but we still had fun and it went all night. Tiki drinks and other cocktails were flowing :) We met a bunch of new folks and I got to hang out with some awesome people I only knew online before. I won't try to name everyone, but a special shout to
Kashmere and Haiku, and
frosteefox and
kazulgfox (our hall neighbors!) because they are THE SWEETEST. I really loved meeting all you guys :) And
Bjorn_Grafeldr graced us Friday, too, to help test the recipes ;) He is one awesome burr!
Finished up the con by meeting with some local friends in Seattle for Belgian food and beer last night which was a lot of fun, and
se_kar spent the night here with us last night. Dropped her at the airport today and now it's back to work.
I've got a trade show in Houston at the end of October to prepare for, where my coauthor and I will be pimping our upcoming book "Everyday Handmade" (http://www.martingale-pub.com/store.....oducts_id=1206). I have a bit of prep for that which I hope to finish SOON. After that it's full speed ahead on some suit projects! I'm really excited with what I have in the works...lots of fun stuff to show by the end of the year :)

Back!
Posted 14 years agoWe got back from Burning Man yesterday. It was a super exhausting journey as we had plenty of vehicle issues there AND back. But the burn was really good. I'm totally exhausted and just want to nap for a week while I sort through it all.
Luckily I don't have a huge press upon returning. This coming week I plan on totally reorganizing my work room and moving some things to the basement. I already have all my casting stuff down there, but it's a mess. We learned this winter that it is indeed water tight (it's unfinished), so I will likely store my fursuits down there as well. Ikea used to have this really cheap garment rack thing with a pole, shelves, and a cover. PERFECT for 2-3 suits, heads, feet, etc. I don't think they make it anymore though so I'll keeping an eye on Craigslist.
Anyhoo, as I ramp up work in my sewing room it's getting out of control and I'm learning how little storage I've got. I will be adding quite a bit of shelving, huzzah!
After that, September is prep month. I have a trade show Halloween weekend for my other job (the sewing book I wrote), which means a TON of sewing. Gotta have duplicates of almost everything, ugh. I also have several things I need to fix on Evergreen before RF, but nothing major. Just a few odds and ends I didn't have time for before AC.
I'm planning on getting all the book sewing done before RF so I can get back to the work I really WANT to do!
Luckily I don't have a huge press upon returning. This coming week I plan on totally reorganizing my work room and moving some things to the basement. Burning Man!

mrskyote and I are headed for that thing in the desert. We're so excited - we have a pretty awesome project in the works (hint: tandem tiki trike). We're WAAAAY behind of course, but that's the name of the game. I will post some photos when there's something to show, heh :) I have high hopes for this year. I just have a feeling it's going to be really amazing.
Anyhow, that's taking up pretty much 100% of my time at the moment, but I'll be starting some great suity projects in September, and then of course there's RAINFURREST!

AC was awesome!
Posted 14 years agoSuper brief, not-really-a-con-report report:
BijouWolf and I had an awesome time! Didn't go to a single panel, but rocked the dances and just socialized the whole time. We got to hang out with the best people, many of whom we'd only known online before. I finished my suit, Evergreen Coyote, JUST in time, and had a ridiculous amount of fun suiting all weekend. The response has been great and I'm kinda floating right now!
I should have at least one new suit done in time for Rainfurrest in late September, but I have a custom kigu project to do first, for a local friend. Haven't made those before so I HAVE to make myself one first to create a pattern...SO SAD >:D
Thank you everyone who helped make our con such a blast. Won't name names as I will undoubtedly forget someone, and I can't get the damn BBCode to work (apparently I am a moron). But you know who you are! <3 <3 <3

Posted 15 years agoI'm goin'! Bringing the boy and the goat of course. I've been insanely busy and preoccupied recently, so I haven't really thought about this con at all. I'm actually buying plane tickets today, heheh. But I'm still really excited, and I hope to meet more folks I haven't met before, and hang with those I know already. I will definitely be at many of the fursuit panels and dances. Otherwise I dunno, looking for a party most likely ^^
As for prep, I just have a couple badge trades to finish up but I'm not doing anything else. I stayed up all night before AC with a huge list of stuff to finish and I don't want to do that again!
We'll be on the fursuit floor of the Fairmont and will be arriving sometime Thursday evening, depending on the plane tix I get. Soooo are you going?
And random reminder, I'm on Twitter so feel free to say hi over there - MissSkyote

Exciting day is exciting!
Posted 15 years agoThe boy and I got approved today to rent a house together and I'm SO excited. Not only to move in together (which is big!), but this place is pretty awesome. Perfect location, lots of space, remodeled kitchen (dishwasher!), basement/storage, deck, backyard, and parking. I currently live in a very expensive and crowded part of Seattle, my unit is under 400sf, and things like a dishwasher or a parking spot in this neighborhood are pure fantasy. I will miss being so central, but the neighborhood I'm moving to (the boy lives near there already) is really great as well and there are tons of fun restaurants and bars about 5 blocks from us. It's also a really killer deal, so I'll be saving a bunch of money each month on rent. I might actually have *savings* now!
Even more than money and a dishwasher, though, I'm insanely excited about my new studio! There are three bedrooms, so one will be entirely for sewing. Right now my "studio" is in my bedroom, which is already a space under 150sf. It's a massive pain to work in there, so having an entire room to play in is going to be AWESOME. I was already starting to lay it all out in my head.
Okay, must go continue happy-dancing!

RF etc
Posted 15 years agoFigured I should update this...I s'pose. Though there's not much to say. Life is busy as usual, and RF looms next weekend! I won't be staying at the hotel since I live really close, but I will be there Friday and Saturday and suiting. Gonna try and avoid the Dealer's Den but we'll see how that works out.
Hmm otherwise, I went to Burning Man with the boy and it was amazing. Second time going and we'll definitely be back. I made a pretty fun costume that I need to photograph--somehow we never got a picture while there. The last night I wore it we got caught in a dust storm so it's pretty thrashed, but nothing a little handwashing in the tub won't cure.
Yeah that's it. I'm glad it's fall :)

Anthrocon! Another one of these journals! Yes!
Posted 15 years agoGetting super excited and also pretty stressed, there is always so much to do last-minute.
Anyhoo:
I'm at the Westin with Mr. Skyote. We're flying in Thursday evening and we'll probably hit up the mixer or whatever is going on that evening.
I will be at a decent number of panels, most likely all the fursuit ones and hopefully some art ones, depending on how things are scheduled. I'll be fursuiting as much as I can as this crazy goat, Blackberry: http://mixedcandymascots.com/galler.....oat/1.jpg.html --and after AC maybe I'll even have my own pics of her ;) If you see her she loves getting her picture taken and will mug for you!
Otherwise, I'll be at the dances and I know we'll be wandering around enjoying the sun and food and drinks of downtown Pittsburgh. The weather sucks in Seattle right now so I'm going to try and get some sun! There will be at least one trip to some Belgian brewery nearby...we both loooove Belgian beer. Also wherever the closest GOOD coffee is is where I will be every morning.
I'm bringing all my art stuff, don't know if I'll actually have a chance to do that much but who knows. If I'm in the mood I might hang in the Sandstone Club and draw.
If you see me feel free to come say hi, I'm friendly! If I'm out of suit I'll of course be wearing Skyote badges, and I will be spending some time running around in a red panda kigu. Just look for the sweaty blonde in full-body fleece animal pajamas in the middle of summer.

AC?
Posted 15 years agoI know I know it's all about FWA right now, but I'm thinking ahead to AC since I'm not going to FWA (sadface). So who is going to AC? I will have a suit there--working on a Skyote suit for myself and hopefully a partial wolfdoggie for my bf. I will have another fullsuit, but that's a surprise for the moment. I'm super-duper excited as this will be my first full con. I went to one day or Rainfurrest last year and enjoyed it, but I'm really excited to stay in the hotel and be there the entire con for AC. I also hope to meet as many folks in person as possible!
So, you going?
So, you going?
