Word of Warning to folks
General | Posted 13 years agoSo 1 of the folks I watch is looking for a new place to live.. and even had provided the link in the journal post... I looked at the application and red flags came up instantly...
STEER CLEAR IF:
*They are asking for full SSN, you can provide your last 4 digits and thats all thats needed for something like a criminal background check or even credit score.
*They are asking for your bank account numbers
*If the information they want is more than enough that they could go out and commit Identity theft or sell information to others who can and will commit ID theft.
*If they DO NOT disclose they are gonna check with the authorities on your criminal back ground. NO CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS = DANGER, Especially if you have kids and have no idea if there is or inst a Level 1,2 or 3 SEX offender down the hall.
*If the price is too good to be true, theres likely a good reason why either its a scam or the conditions really are bad.

Gaylaxicon Review (10/5 - 10/7)
General | Posted 13 years agoSo I finally got around to writing my review of this..
First and foremost I will say it was the most fun ive ever had at a convention that wasnt a furry con.
Friday they had the opening ceremony and I did quite a bit of board gaming.
Saturday was the Furry 101 panel (which I was lead for), it was a good turn out and people seemed quite interested and we had a good time going over the powerpoint, Procyon was very impressed by my work on the powerpoint which could be a sign of good things in my future as far as doing panels at other cons... Later that day was the MNfurs room party which had a good turn out and really was the only public room party at the con, there was some folks who came by but alot of the folks there were current MNfurs, past MNfurs / Frozen furs / etc
The Highlight of Saturday was the variety show which was a HOOT, they had funny acts, sexy acts and some really impressive glowstick dancers and a good stand up comedian.
Sunday there was a few fur panels, I only went to the fursuiting panel which was relatively small (only 3 or 4 ppl, most of which being MNfurs folks), but I had more fun doing the board gaming for the rest of the day..
All in all I'd give this con 9.0 out of 10.. definately fun, but sad they are in Atlanta next year and probably wont be back to the Twin Cities for several years :(

General | Posted 13 years agowell as you read in my last journal my boyfriend admitted some stuff to me, after he did I decided to be honest and tell him that I was pretty much gonna propose to him a MFF, which made him feel like a douchebag and an idiot and he realized that ive been the light in his darkness and the clear choice all along and he should stay with me.
He decided he wont give the other guy any further thought, and really made it clear he wont cheat on me again and wrote something and drew some stuff which were really sweet.
he's regained some but not all of my trust, and he knows that if he cheats again I probably wont be able to forgive it again.
time will tell if he can avoid having it happen again.

General | Posted 13 years agoIm.. just not sure how to feel after the news I got today, apparently my boyfriend cheated on me and may have feelings for another guy (unrelated to the one he cheated on me with), ive forgiven him and hes gonna see what happens at MFF on if he wants to stay with me or go to him...
my feeling is... disappointed... and im really worried that he might do it again and ill be hurt.. I am glad he told me. it shows great committment to do so any he did feel really bad about it...

Updates, Fall Picnic, and more
General | Posted 13 years agoYay for FA being fully back, it was a real pain to not be able to communicate anything for quite some time.
Anyway the fall picnic was ok, sherriff came by and told us that no, we cant use nerf guns afterall since projectile's of any sort are banned by the county. We made due with it and still had fun with the events during the picnic and then a good ol game of werewolf at the end to complete a fun day.
So updates.. well im planning on attending and being a panelist at this years Gaylaxicon held in the twin cities in October and am looking forward to it. I honestly expected it to be a decent sized con but found out its only gonna be a 500 or so person con which is a bit nice cuz big crazy cons like Detour and Convergence are well... big and crazy... I do admit I wouldnt go to another big convention outside of the 3 I currently regular: CONvergence, ADetour, MFF, those 3 are plenty.
As far as after Gaylaxicon planning goes into full production on North Metro furs and events held by it, what do I mean by that?
The plan as it stands is to have a Bowling Meet in Coon Rapids in January that will be the kick off of whats to come, and monthly meets thereafter to be held starting in February 2013 at a location thats still TBD.
Im expecting/hoping to have some help from MNfurs as it sounds like regionalization is part of their plan as well to have more localized events and meets as opposed to the 1 big bi-weekly at Perkins.

Tough times
General | Posted 13 years agoSo it finally happened, my boyfriends mother passed away, and its tough on him and on me, ive been dealing with his sadness and depression over this for many weeks now and knew it was coming. One good thing was that before she passed he had a realization that made him feel better about the whole situation that he is loved by his family and by me and his mother would want him to be happy.
Please, if you can, he could use everyone's support that he has friends and supporters and while this is a sad time in his life, he has people who care about him.

General | Posted 13 years agook so as I stated in a previous post my Boyfriend's mother doesnt have too much time to live.. and he REALLY would like to either visit me or me visit him.. problem is that outside what was spent for us to be at MFF there isnt money for me to travel to Lexington, MI from Coon Rapids, MN.
Te trip would be around $270 for a train ride to Chicago then from Chicago to Port Huron, plus another $100-200 for the hotel in Chicago since each way id have to stay the night there.
I dont really know otherwise how id get to Lexington, Port Huron at least is only about 1 hour out and thankfully has the AmTrak line...
Anyway Id be looking for donations.. not sure if id be able to repay and perhaps someone can help me by offering art or something.. idk...
note me if interested in donating

What happened is that he got some of the worse news anyone could get... his mother doesnt have long to live... they are saying she may last to the new year (2013) so he at least will have Thanksgiving and hopefully Christmas with her before she passes away.
Anyone have any advice? what should I say? what should I do?

Cat Days of Summer review (FUN!)
General | Posted 13 years agoDefinately the best of the hotel events run by MNfurs up to this point....
Friday:
I will critisize there wasnt too much, though it was kind of a "come, and meet people and do fun gaming and such" and was adult (18+) which did mean that the alcohol did flow pretty freely in serveral areas of the con, I dont drink much but I couldnt resist having some "Grumpy Puma Cider".
There was gaming in 1 room, and the fursuit lounge and consuite where open. There were 3 events friday, a panel on furry lit.the MNfurs panel about were we go from here towards eventually having a full fledged con, and some catgirl anime viewing.
Saturday:
This was were things got fun, and im kinda glad they didnt schedule anything to open til 12 PM cuz there wouldnt have been much for ppl around. Anyway it was alot of fun doing gaming and going to the panels, they had plenty of art panels and the FIRST EVER art show at a event run by MNfurs.
The panels were informative, I went to Kae's "Fursuit Performance" panel and learned a few new ideas to be a better fursuiter, then played in the fursuit games... ALOT of fun, though Kae is quite evil with some of the games :P
After that I played in the charity poker, which sadly didnt get as many folks as the Snowpocalypse poker event, with our 9 players the game went til around 8:30, I NEARLY had it when there was 3 all-ins and ended up being 3 pots, I had a 2 pair K and J, unfortunately the flush flopped and I lost most of my chips and a few hands later lost all in.
The biggest disappointment was my panel "Fursuit memories" which had a whole 1 person show... appearently most ppl went to dinner at 7.
After that was the "Where do we go from here" panel, which was a bit like the previous night except more concerns and issues were discussed. It was informative and I hope they post the notes of it on the forum so people see the things that we need if we want even better events.
The dance was great all things considered with it starting about 45 minutes late due to technical issues.
I wrapped the night up with a few games of Werewolf which is a tradition at MNfurs to have werewolf at the end.
Biggest concerns:
*There was a distinct lack of volunteers during Sat afternoon, and even a bit during the later
*There could have been more panels if people actually took the effort to run them, theres cool panels ideas but no one willing to dedicate the time to running them, about 75% of the panels were run by MNfurs core leadership, which is rather sad that they had to run so much and not get as much of a chance to relax / enjoy the event.
*there were some issues on planning for the 4th floor consuite/ fursuit lounge with normal people ended up on the floor and complaining of noise :(
*Turn out could have been better... ended up somewhere around 100, which was less than Snowpocalypse but better than O.M.F.G (I think it had less but am not sure)
What went well:
*Overall it was a much better executed of a hotel event than either Snowpocalype or O.M.F.G. and on a good track for what a con would look like.
*Definately one of the funnest events the group has had.
*Space, the sheer amount was plenty and comfortable for the number of attendee's, though if we had more panels proposed im sure they could have rented 1 or 2 more rooms for them.
Personal Thoughts:

MNfurs.org forum login problem (PLEASE READ)

Update 1: Appears to be limited to JUST Mnfurs.org, I tried other places I regular that have login pages and it doesnt do it.

General | Posted 13 years agoWas fun, as always, however 1 of the panels was rather disappointing for me, cuz I knew everything they said and was hoping to learn something diff.
However I had great fun and met up with people... At the Geek Society room party I watched Tenshin Mouy GPX (Galaxy Police), what a funny anime series lol.
I did LAN gaming, panels but unfortunately no fursuiting since my new paws never showed up in time.
I was a bit more laid back this year since last weekend at Animinneapolis taught me a lesson on overexertion (from getting a heat exhaustion).
The meet up on Saturday went decent, however next year im definately moving it to a bit later... had 3 show and had a lenghty 1 hour + discussion on various topics.
Time to get back to RL and my normal routine... 2 weeks of cons was definately a change..
Next event: Cat Days of Summer, a MNfurs event.

Animinneapolis
General | Posted 13 years agoso the weekend finally drew to a close, it had its ups, downs, good and ugly, a bit more of the bad and ugly than I expected.
The good:
PoetryNinja's Battle City Tournament went well without hitches as far as I'm aware and it was loads of fun, I dueled my heart out Friday and at one point was ONE LOCATOR from the Semi-finals, alas my harpy/blackwing deck got beat and I got knocked out, I didnt walk away empty handed however, got some nifty door prizes and met some great folks.
the con overall has a very fun and vibrant atmosphere, great panels, lots of ppl, stuff happening everywhere. For a con that last year had only 900 attendees (this year they had 1200 JUST in pre-reg) it was a good con, that being said.....
The bad
Their staff and coordination need to be better, the reg line was 1 example, they had 1 line for both at-con reg and pre-reg, which combined with tight halls and lots of ppl made is swamp like heat and was rather ridiculous, I heard rumors they are going to the Double tree hotel next year (which is where Detour / Convergence is) and that may settle alot of their space issues. However that wasnt the only problem, for instance their first panels friday nearly didnt have microphones/sound equipment, just minutes before the first panels were kicking off the guy finally arrives and sets them up. IMO they could have also done better in Consuite and other area's as well. I give them some credit however for being a newer con thats still growing, and im sure they will improve.
The ugly
There was VERY loose enforcement of drinking age, there was obvious drunken minors without needing to look far, and im doubting the Room Parties were policed much or at all in ensuring people were carded for alcohol rooms.
During the first day I got heat exhaustion, I made it home at 10 and nearly passed out... called sick for work and finally felt better in the morning, Fursuiting didnt happen for me after that out of concern, the hotel's air conditioning was working overtime and it didnt really ever feel like there was times that the hotel wasnt hot and muggy.
My 2 attempts at a
MNfurs meet up there failed badly, Saturday 1 fursuiter showed up (big shout out to 
Aurastar-Taijiya for showing) which surprisingly went well even w/ 1 fursuiter.
Sunday's attempt at a meet and greet failed with 0 showering up.. oh well, CONvergence will be better planned for a meetup and should go well..

All set for MFF 2012
General | Posted 13 years agoYAY, so everything is offically set, train tickets for me and demonic_bellic, our hotel room and con reg.
Cost me quite a bit more this year since im actually having to pay for the hotel room but having a room to just myself and my boyfriend is gonna be nice (and actually having the room key for the full weekend vs last year having it for 1 day of the con).
Like last year im taking the Amtrak Empire Builder the Thursday of the con down to Chicago, Id really appreciate seeing some other furs on the Train this year, was kinda dull going both ways last year and being the only furry heading to MFF and back both ways.
Anyway, this weekend is Animinneapolis, then CONvergence, then Cat Days then MFF.
