How to give donations and make them count.
General | Posted 15 years agoDon't donate over the phone to people who call.
Don't donate to small, pop-up charities.
Research your charity- THOROUGHLY.
goto http://www.charitynavigator.org if you want help.
Want further suggestions?
Americares donates 99% of what you give them to relief for disasters.
Red Cross donates 90.1% of what you give them to relief for disasters.
GlobalGiving gives a PUNY 84% of what you give them to relief for disasters- but they're so generous that they'll LET you pay more so you can give more! Isn't that SWEET?!!!
Do NOT send supplies to the country yourself.
Do NOT go randomly flying over to where ever to throw yourself into the work- it's a great thought! Really! I'd love to do it myself- HOWEVER- we aren't trained for this, we'd be in the way of ORGANIZED efforts, and at higher risk of hurting ourselves, and undermining a concerted organized effort.
Now- go out into the big world and have fun being philanthropists!!!

Werewolf MEME
General | Posted 15 years agoSnitched from
who snagged it from Myenia.
A chance to acquaint people with my version of werewolves from "Reluctant Soul" which is posted in chapters in my gallery.
Original cause of "werewolfism":
Werewolves, who refer to themselves as Kiapa/Keepers were created by the Earth, Moon, and Sun. Originally bodiless spirits to make man more aware of the gods and to give the gods their proper dues. Werewolves over the thousands of years discovered that to better complete their task they needed to become mortal. So then they were physical spirits, but over time they interbred with humans and evolved into werewolves as they are known today. Coincidentally, the argument is that they monumentally failed in their task and reason for creation.
How can one become a werewolf?:
You can only be born a werewolf. It depends on how much 'blood' an individual inherits from ancestors/parents. Through study it's been found that a person must have around 1/3rd of their genetic makeup come from werewolf ancestors before they will be 'called' by the earth. This means that they are born with the earth magic sustaining their life, and they will be shape shifters.
Lifespan:
In the beginning the spirits were immortal. Then because they were still pure their lifespan could be for a thousand years. Today, while it's not known for certain, it seems that the average life (if dying of natural cause) will be around 200-350 years.
Mortality:
Werewolves are mortal. But due to their magical connection with the earth they are famously hard to kill. They are not allergic to silver, and are not scared of the cross- they predate the cross, and in this world 'God' is a farce. So the best way to kill a werewolf is to destroy the heart or behead- and remove said heart and keep the head away (and secure- they bite after death)
Intellegence/self control:
Today Keepers are pulled out of school early. So many do not have the higher education that some humans will get unless they work especially hard for it. Instead they are taught the wisdom of their elders, magic, earth lore, survival. They have the ability to be just as intelligent if not a little more so than most humans. True wisdom comes from experience and self control- which many Keepers have plenty of chances to acquire. Self control does need to be learned. Through bad or extreme experiences a Keeper may 'attach' emotions to magic- thusly through heightened emotions they may shift beyond their control. When a cub is adopted into a pack they are taught how to reverse this and prevent it... but not everyone is discovered/trained/self-disciplined
Height:
Just like their human bodies, werewolves can and will vary vastly in body. Generally speaking, expect a were- t be around 2 feet taller than their human body.
Fur colors (wolf colors or human hair colors?):
Werewolves vary in coloration. It does not need to correlate with their human hair. It actually correlates with their race. Example- inuit ancestry tend to be white, sometimes with some markings. european ancestry tend to be brown to dark black. asian can be rusty brown to reddish. Some werewolves are solid colors, some have wolf markings. Don't expect to see a werewolf spotted like a dalmation, or with stripes though. Crosses of ancestry do occur, and expect the genes to express themselves based on dominance.
Main killing weapon....teeth or claws?:
Each werewolf is individual. Some refuse to kill unless in self defense. others go looking for fights. some use human weapons, guns etc. Many have learned at least a small portion of martial art. Claws are terrific weapons, but so aren't teeth. but biting a jugular seems to do the job quick in an up and close fight.
Preferred food:
Werewolves are omnivores. They can also take small nourishment from the moonlight and the earth magic. What they eat depends on where they're from largely. city raised werewolves probably prefer high fat fast food. Woods raised werewolves will prefer venison, likely uncooked.
Run on all fours or two?
Both. But the fastest way to get from one place to another is a flat out run in the full werewolf (or spirit) form on all fours.
Body type (bulky, hunched, lithe, more wolflike, etc... feel free to link!) :
Generally speaking werewolves are long limbed, with long faces (in spirit form) But they vary on musculature, height, weight, and stature. For example- Jamie is new, and is influenced by her negative self-image. Her body is thin, and extremely lanky. Keith, who is positive about himself is tall and thin, with sinuous muscle and well proportioned. Marty- Jamie compares to a bear, he is barrel chested and thickly muscled, and very tall.
Lifestyle - More time as wolf or human?
No Keeper gets to live the lifestyle they choose, unless that's a lifestyle out in the middle of nowhere where no one can find them. Some will try to live in the cities, but usually they are found out eventually and hunted/chased out/killed. But what a werewolf would choose will vary too. Some would like to live in the city, others in the woods with no amenities.
Forms (human, wolf, beast/anthro, etc):
Keepers have two extremes- human and spirit. They can focus on changing a portion of themselves towards one extreme and delay the rest, or they can make a full-body shift 'pause' anywhere between the two extremes. There is no 'wolf' form like in WhiteWolf and other popular lore because Keepers are not related to wolves.
Shifting Cause (moon, free will, ritual, etc.):
Cause for shifting is magic and will. Although a werewolf who has poor emotional control may shift when experiencing extreme emotions.
Shifting Process (is it painful? fast? Can they do it on the run?):
Shifting is always painful- it would be even more painful (and body consuming to the point of death) without earth magic. As a werewolf shifts more often they learn to tolerate the pain. They can control the speed of the change as well- to the point of changing while on the move.
Abilities retained in human form:
Keepers in human form do not have extra senses- that is without turning them on. They can use their magic to enhance senses, but if they choose to add strength and speed they will need to shift at least slightly.
Physical traits retained in human form:
None unless a Keeper is born with what would by today's standards be considered extremely high amounts of 'kiapa blood'. The more pure a Kiapa is [kiapa] the less human they are. So their human form may take on strange characteristics. but this hasn't been seen for thousands of years.
Any mortal enemies (ex. vampires?) :
Humans in general are supposed to be under the care of Kiapa. Some see that as meaning Humans are below Kiapa in the hierarchy. Others see them as children. So humans in general are not enemies of werewolves. However some humans have made it their mission to destroy werewolves- namely the Einma (a cult). So these would be the enemies of the Kiapa.
Loners, or pack-animals?
Can be either or. But because there is so much to learn about being a Keeper they try to stay in groups and do their best to find 'cubs'

General | Posted 17 years agoI don't update this journal system with terribly personal stuff.
I don't really use livejournal at all, just because it really feels "out of the way"
I DO use google+ -- Elisabeth Wyrwicz (the person who bothers me already knows my name- why hide it?)
-->While I use facebook, it's strictly for people I know personally. Google's system lends itself to the various levels of social networking for a small business person better than fb does.
I am NOT regularly active on Deviantart, but it is my secondary acct.
---->Abandoned accts: ArtSpots, Elfwood, VLC, and one other I can't think of. If you see me 'active' anywhere else- it's NOT ME. Please tell me. This and deviantart are the ONLY art sites I currently use.
