1.) What is your name?
Jordan Samuel Smithinson
2.) Do you know why you were named that?
I don't know. My parents named me that when they found me at the orphanage. What kind of question is that?
3.) I see... Single or taken?
Taken where? Single what?! I don't like these questions!
4.) Any abilities or powers?
Oh? Finally a question that makes sense! My instructors at the college taught me that I'm an alter mage! That means I can change stuff with magic! My powers usually manifest as superhuman strength and really hard skin. Other than that I guess I'm a pretty good forger and enchanter.
5.) Stop being a Mary Sue!
You stop being so...weird! If I'm a Mary Sue then you're a....big fat stupid face! I'M COMFORTABLE WITH MYSELF OKAY!!! I DON'T NEED YOUR APPROVAL!!!
6.) What's your eye colour?
Oz says they're sometimes blue, sometimes green, and sometimes grey and they change colors! She has this weird habit of staring at them for some reason. It's...a little uncomfortable, but I like it!
7.) Hair colour?
Please, I ain't no mammal. Hair is for people who can't make their own warmth. Ummm...don't tell anybody I said that.
8.) Any family?
Two! I was adopted when I was really little so I don't remember my real parents. They dropped me off in an orphanage in Virginia and my parents found me there. I got to stay with them a long time till they had to let the government take me to mage school. I haven't seen them in a while. I miss them a lot.
9.) How about pets?
I've got a pet squid named Jasper. Oz named him, but I don't think that's much of a giant squid name. I like him cept when he starts biting, or dragging me into the sea, or binding me up in his tentacles. He's just playing around though. *smiles nervously*
10.) Now, tell me something you don't like.
Ummm...I usually like everything! I suppose I'm kinda scared of bees. Yeah, you know what fuck bees, and horses, and those people who put me in that orphanage. I don't want to talk about it. *folds arms and stares at the wall with a glare*
11.) Any hobbies or activities you enjoy?
Hitting things! Hitting machines! Hitting people! Biting things! Biting machines! Biting people!
I also enjoy video games and building stuff.
12.) Have you ever hurt anyone in any way?
Of course. If there's one thing about making your way through the Fools Endevour Field its that everybody wants something from you. Not to mention my job revolves around persuading wizards to let me keep some of their magic. That leads to some heated discussions.
13.) Ever killed anyone?
Ummm...what do you count as anyone? I enjoy hunting while I'm out here, it keeps the food fresher that way. *licks lips*
14.) What kind of animal are you?
I WAS KIDDING. I DON'T EAT PEOPLE! Oh. Well if you haven't noticed I'm a shark nobody's really sure what gave me these big ears, but my doctor told my parents they were probably from a bat. Other than that nobody else seems to know what I am. My mom used to call me a Shabat. Yeah, I'm a Shabat! Only one of his kind! So far as I've seen.

My teacher Father Andrews! He's really strict, but I can tell he means well. He taught me everything I know about

Oh oh! I know what this means! Okay so I only like girls, but sometimes there's occasions where I REALLY like girls you know? They're so soft, and they smell nice! Other than that I know some people like boys too, I am not one of those. I forget which one that makes me, but I am one of them.
18.) Do you go to school?
Yep, I've been in school since the government found out I was a mage. I went to regular school for a long time, but I used my magic when I wasn't supposed to. I used to hate the Institute, but I started to like it when they started helping me use my magic. Now I work for a university!
19.) Ever want to marry and have kids one day?
*with terrible impression of Father Andrew* "Jordan my boy, it's a shame that young men and women these days have forsaken the traditional roles of holy matrimony." Father Andrews talks about marriage like it's this holy bond and transcends this life and blah blah blah. If I love a girl and want to make babies with her then as far as I'm concerned it's a ceremony. I wonder what Oz things of weddings. *walks behind corner to Oz's room*

*walks back with bandaid covering swollen area over left eye* Ummm...I don't think Oz counts right now.
21.) What are you most afraid of?
Becoming irrelevant and weak. Never reaching my full potential.

I'm required to be wearing my standards Temple garb, but since nobody's out here to really say anything I can wear whatever I want. I like my jacket since it keeps me warm in the desert at night! I don't care much for boots or shoes though like everybody else. They make my feet itchy. Other than that I like wearing thinner stuff and pants with as many pockets as possible!

Taking a Break From the Internet
Posted 11 years agoHi guys. I've been thinking about things for a while and I realize that the majority of my free time is spent on the internet doing non constructive things. I've become attached to my skype chats, my facebook friends, and FurAffinity in general. While I love you all I and it hurts to say this, I need to take some time off of here.. It is my hope that I will come back with art and stories to post to this wonderful site as well as my other art sites. I haven't posted much more than doodles and I'd like to devote myself to Jordan's story. I also need some time to evaluate where I stand in my future career. I hope that you all understand that I need this, but I will be off of

1/2 Cup Freshly Squeezed Blood Orange Juice (Bottled will work too, just make sure it is of the right color) Chilled
8 Parts Brut Rose Champagne Chilled
Combine both ingredients into mixer STIR delicately. Pour equally as delicately into champagne flute. Garnish with pomegranate seeds OR Purple Basil. (Yes they will float at the top)
Drinking Instructions: A delicate and sweetly romantic drink best served at a couples meal or even alone at home with a good book. Intelligent, elegant and sweet its hard to find a time and place where its not appropriate.

I've been getting a better at drawing and I'm interested in trying to draw characters for people the way most artists on here do. So I'd like it if I could get some ideas and characters to draw that go with said ideas. I can't promise you'll ever get it, but the ideas are appreciated.

More About Jordan
Posted 11 years ago-What made you choose the species of your main fursona?
I tend to be fascinated by creatures that scare me. I've had three seperate encounters with sharks in my life and each incident got me a little bit more interested in them. Today I love sharks and when I was brought in to the fandom I knew from the start I wanted to be a shark. Thresher sharks are my favorite because they show a lot of intelligence and their tails have been known to decapitate people.
-Is your fursona just like you, or how you want to be?
A little bit of both really. Jordan is very heavily based on how I feel inside. He's goofy, naive, and incredibly loving for a shark. Jordan acts the way I would if most of my impulses weren't illegal in public.
-Does your fursona have the same personality you have?
Yeah, he's pretty well based around my personality.
-Does your fursona have the same dislikes and likes as you do?
Yeah, we're both in to building stuff and video games.
-Does your fursona look like you at all?
Not really. The only real physical similarity is our eye color which is something all my characters share.
-Is your fursona the same gender as you, if not why?
To put it bluntly Jordan is twice the man I am if you know what I'm saying.
-Do you have more then one main fursona?
Yes. Some believe that my characters Akeru and Xoth are me, but they're really only little bits of my personality. My only other true fursona is Rigby van Ghent my tiger shark character. He's the shark that's meant to be more like me personality and physical appearance wise.
-Do you have a back story for your fursona, if so does it have anything to do with your own history?
Jordan's story is a mixture of how I felt at different stages in my life and how my life actually has gone with a few untrue things thrown in. He leaves home as a young adult to come to the surface where he meets the majority of his current friends just like I came to college and found my niche in the furry fandom.
-Is your fursona mated, if so is it to your real life significant other?
Jordan is canonically mated with his girlfriend Azadeh. Azadeh, in real life, is my girlfriend
-If not are they looking for a mate, or are they a swinger so to speak?
Jordan wouldn't even know what that means.

He's a bat shark and he drinks blood the way most would drink milk or orange juice. That's a bit different. Not to mention he's a shark who lives in a desert and has magical abilities that let him control metal. I'd say that's kind of different.

Eh, to a degree yes.

His lust for money and his irresponsible use of said money.

A fist full of coin, some extra rounds of black powder and shot, an astrolabe, a compass, some poorly scrawled notes with with a few doodles of nude women, a farmer's sickle that's been bent into a hook and sharpened on the outside edge, and an envelope with an amber wax seal left unopened bearing the crest of some unknown family.
What is one thing your character will never, ever, EVER do?
Betray his crew. He selected his crew from experience and has suffered with them through so much. They're all he really has.
And lastly, if you had to write an ending for your character and never use them again, what would the ending be like? Happily ever after? Blaze of glory? Fate catching up to them?
I don't really know how to answer that. I like to imagine he'd hang up his cutlass for good and seek a plump maid to call his wife, but I know that can't really happen for him. Not after what he's done.

MMOs or other types of games? Eh, tried to reproduce him in a World of Darkness campaign once, but I don't really have any time for MMOs. Furcadia lacks a shark avatar type sadly.
Fursuiting? He doesn't have any fur so no. I have been entertaining the idea of a prosthetic make-up cosplay though.

Coming up on 2 years now this Spring.
Does your character physically resemble you in any way?
HAHAHAHAHAHA! He has my eyes that's it. It's hard to make a big predatory fish resemble you and still have total swerve.
What trait about your character is the most like you?
Our senses of humor and our great ambition in taking on the world from every point of view we can hit it from. Jordan's development came on the cusp of a lot of changes in myself which reflect a bit with every revision of his past. I suppose we're most alike in our sense of justice and tangible good. We believe that no matter what you should come back with something in everything you endeavor to do.
What trait about your character is the least like you?
Jordan is a lot more naive than I am since he came from a place where he was isolated from much of the outside world.
Does your character have something you've always wanted? Do they do anything you've always wanted to do?
Jordan pretty much is what I wish my career could be. If I could pilot mechs and fight monsters and date catgirls I think I'd pretty well be in heaven.
Did your character originate in someone else's fictional universe? If so, whose?
I guess in a way I wanted Jordan to be a part of 's universe since she was one of the few furries I knew at the time.

Nope, now he's living it up in his own little dimension.
How did you come up with the qualities of your character?
I tried thinking about a motivation for him and branching from there keeping in mind that this shark represents who I am to a lot of people. I always keep that in mind with my fursonas.
Did any historical figures, fictional figures, or people you know/knew influence your character?
Nikola Tesla and the two people I mentioned above to a great extent. I suppose I should also mention his adopted father who taught him a lot of what he knows about machines.
What physical/mental changes has your character gone through since its creation?
Changes wise I've made him anywhere from responsible and sad to goofy and disrespectful. He's changed his clothing and his outlook on things, but that is the way I work in my day to day life. I try to see everything from every point of view I can.
If your character was a real person you knew, how well do you think you'd get along with them?
I like to think we'd be pretty good friends...if he could keep from chewing on me.
What is your character's biggest vice?
If he were one of the seven deadly sins he'd be gluttony. Jordan is both a heavy eater and somebody constantly in want. His ambitions take him to new heights, but they can sometimes bring him to the lowest he's ever been when the stars are right.
What would someone find if they looked through your character's pack (or purse, bundle, backpack, pocket, etc)?
He tries to keep most of that stuff someplace other than his pack (vehicle, storage bin, etc.) but Jordan is a creature of pragmatism and everything you saw in there would be a tool or object that has some purpose in his travels. He wouldn't hold it next to his body if he didn't absolutely need it. That being said you'd find things like tools, artifacts, machine parts, wires, half formed and oddly shaped devices, and one or two unopened cans of fresh blood.
What is one thing your character will never, ever, EVER do?
Leave his friends behind. Jordan would just as soon die than allow his friends to be harmed.
And lastly, if you had to write an ending for your character and never use them again, what would the ending be like? Happily ever after? Blaze of glory? Fate catching up to them?
I believe Jordan is meant for a happy ending somewhere down the line, but it will never come easily to him.

Whoa! There's a Big Family On Campus
Posted 12 years agoI decided to do some census work and there are 15 known furries in the general MSU area myself included. This is crazy. There's a gigantic family on campus I never recognized until toward the end of last year.

A Poem About Dog Farts

SamsonTailchaser sent me some helpful insight on his character Samson. I was so intrigued I spent a good hour writing this poem. We talked about it some and he gave me some helpful insight and criticism. Here is what I have come up with.I ran between the endless fields
Dashing and darting
Biting and snarling
The crows begin to climb on high
They circled seeing
Intent on being
Life is way to fun to care
About stupid birds
In stupid air.
I ran beside the little farm.
My master brings his friendly arm
To rub my ears.
We greeted and romped
Until we stopped
Another day gone to end
Shining day to shining day
We’d play in the forests
We’d play in the hay.
But on that day
When the hay grew thin
When the barley grew pale
When the sky shone dim
The crows did fly beyond again

A siren in the distance

I used to write poetry as a way to soothe my troubles and feel good, but alas I lack the creative inspiration I once had. This is where you, dear reader, come in.
In the comments section or in a note schedule a short 10-20 minute period of time with me where we can chat for a bit about your character over skype. We can do instant message or call it matters not to me. Tell me about your character, tell me about the universe they live in. Tell me about their relationships, their hopes, their fears, what they've overcome? What challenges them...or you? I always love learning about people in the fandom and the connection they share with their OC. After the short chat I will take what I have learned and what I feel and write a short poem in a style of my choosing about them. Whoever it's about will be the first to see it before it goes on FA. If you don't want it out there let me know and it'll stay between us.
