General | Posted 12 years agoI had an idea for a group photo of our characters in Halloween costumes. I've seen it done before and I'm possibly going to be part of another one before then. However I need a head count and some suggestions on a good artist to do it. Also if you want to be part of this we're going to split the cost. Your costume can be anything, but keep in mind if it raises the price you pay the extra costs yourself. So please leave a comment here with your:

I accidentally ended up getting in a long nerd rant about World of Darkness here. It kind of explains some of my reasoning, but at the same time you can get the gist without reading it. Feel free to skip on down if you're short on time.

Okay, so recently I stumbled across a little known game called World of Darkness. If you haven't heard of it it's a tabletop RPG like DnD except it's based more in paranormal creatures (i.e. werewolves, vampires, prometheans) instead of plain fantasy. In an old story from before the game was reimagined you played a character stuck in a conflict between the impending apocalyptic deity known as the Wyrm and multiple races of Changing Breeds. Obviously I wanted to know the most about a breed called the Rokea who are a race of Weresharks. In the mythos weresharks have different roles in society that depend on what phase of the moon was out when they were born. You've got Brightwaters who were born on the full moon, Dimwaters who were born during any phase but full or new moon, and Darkwaters who were born on the new moon or when the moon was blocked by clouds. Brightwaters and Darkwaters are usually the only Rokea to leave the ocean in human form due to their curious natures. If you want to read more about Changing Breeds I suggest this wiki:

He's a crafter and builder by nature. However as I've begun to develop him more and more I'm starting to move a little further from the building each time. For somebody who's main talent is building he sure does a lot of fighting. So I'm starting to think that I like the name Blackwater more. I dunno, let me know what you guys think. I've been using it in our group chat for about a week and nobody's said anything about it, but my skype name is as fleeting as the tides so they probably don't know I'm serious about possibly changing it.

I wanted to become part of a community of creative minded people and recognize a new part of my identity that was forming as I engrossed myself in the furry fandom. Unlike bigger sites like DA it hold a certain amount of comfort that I prefer.

recently about where commissioned art gets is usage privileges I realized that I haven't actually been giving enough credit in the descriptions of my commissioned art. While most of my commissioned art does give credit to an artist who is usually also a friend I need to remain professional about this and keep my purchases linked to the original art. Whenever I get free time I will go back through my commissioned images and edit the description to include credits given to the artist, a statement of intellectual property rights given to me (the commissioner), a link to the artists own posting of the art, and possibly any statement of copyright if applicable.
The only artists I've ever gotten art from are good friends and I know they probably really don't care, but I am nothing if not a professional in my dealings with other professionals. The friends who have done art for me have been professionals that I have paid to make my art (except my artwolf KaloWolf who will soon start charging for commissioned art) and I will extend that same courtesy to them by making sure people who see my art know where it came from and what can be done with it before it could be considered rights infringement.

and I've noticed a lot of cool characters who accessorize their tails with tail bracelets and piercings and designs. I've been considering adding some accessories to Jordan as a way to express my style a bit more. I myself like to wear rings and bands and wallet chains and necklaces. What do you guys think?

General | Posted 12 years agoToday my roommates and I became the proud parents of a couple little rats! They're the cutest things ever! We've decided to name them Ili (Kannada word for rat) and Arnette (changed up Armenian word for rat) and I LOVE THEM SO MUCH! They're still a little skittish and cautious of us, but they seem to enjoy climbing all over us. Ili is the adventurous one of the pairbonded duo. Her interests so far include climbing all over everything and occasionally peeing on your hand if you grab her. Arnette though is the cuddly one. She seems to enjoy finding dark spaces or holes to crawl into such as the crevice of my arm. As of yet we are very satisfied with them and very happy to have them in our new home. Pics posted later.

Magic the Gathering Character Deck
General | Posted 12 years agoHey guys. I was on a chat with some friend this morning and came up with an interesting idea. I'd like to create an entire Magic the Gathering Deck based on people's characters, print it, and play with it for fun. The entire design of the deck will be as balanced as possible and hopefully not to overpowered or unreliable. Considering the variety of your characters it will also probably have to be a rainbow deck, which I have never attempted before.
Anyway
If you want to become a part of this deck submit your ideas below. In your response you should list.
1. Desired Card Name
2. Desired Card Type (i.e. Enchantment, Artifact, Creature, Land, etc)
3. Desired Card Color (Red, Blue, White, Black, Green, or None)
4. Link to art you want used on the card. (try to keep it Magic Themed, though I understand if you don't have such art)
5. Suggested ability (Your suggestions may be denied, but will factor in heavily)
Note about Planeswalkers
Not everybody can become a Planeswalker. The deck already has one Planeswalker. That being said I am willing to take in 3 more Planeswalker suggestions as alternatives to swap out if I want to so don't be shy about suggesting them.
Side Notes
This deck doesn't just have to be furry characters. Anybody is welcome to contribute a character of any kind.

Dramatic Life Event
General | Posted 12 years agoSo as it turns out when you don't have a 3.0 by the end of the Spring semester they take away your scholarship without giving you the extra semester to improve. I find this to be utter bullshit and everybody in the Office of Admissions and Scholarships can go and fuck themselves.
More importantly I'll be left paying the extra 9,000 dollars a year for the rest of my school schooling if I don't retake this class and get a C.
So it's looking like my best option is to take a July class using my academic forgiveness.
Please, if any of you have any sort of advice on this topic, that's all I'm looking for now. My pride is gone and all I have nothing to lose but time and money.

(2) New Character(s)
General | Posted 12 years agoAs some of you know I've been skipping about with new character ideas claiming THIS IS MY NEW CHARACTER and what not. Now I've finally birthed two new characters. Initially I wanted one to fill in a place in my stories that Jordan could not logically fill. Namely a shark living in a desert town is kind of hard to pull off even with OP magic.
Jordan's ability list has been greatly reduced and the extra abilities given to this character. He is now limited to purely technological abilities and whatever indirect abilities that comes with.
Jordan's talent in magic has been shifted to a new character I will be revealing soon. He will be my first mammal anthro character that is completely my own. Once I have a ref sheet drawn I'll show you guys, but I'm REALLY excited about it. Today I have very nearly beaten this paper to shreds with ideas and doodles and now because of a very spiritual trip to the Birmingham Zoo I have a new fictional life to raise.
Post pictures soon and maybe I'll actually find the courage to put some writing in this dusty empty place.
Oh! I almost forgot about the second character! This one will be purely for roleplay purposes and maybe the occasional Minecraft fan-fic. I made this character after I realized I have an awful lot of creeper stuff. (armband, helmet, desk toy, Minecraft Skin, etc.)

General | Posted 12 years agoSo I'm welcoming myself in to the community just fine, but I feel a bit of vehemence in making this my thing. I made this profile to get in touch with a part of myself I've stifled for a long time out of fear and ignorance. Not only that, but now I have an excuse to write. I have found a creative outlet that I hope to utilize in some way.
Being a furry, being brought in to the fandom so warmly I feel like none of this could have been possible without the confidence I gained because of a handful of good friends. My friends are cool enough to show their tails in public and be themselves when it would otherwise seem less wise. I still fear for being myself, even around my good friends.

“Why do you have to put your feet on the table?”
Smithy peeled one lazy eyelid to turn his vision to his feet on the apartment coffee table. He thought to himself how badly he needed to clean the caked mud out of the webbing on his toes.
“I paid for this table. I’ll do as I please with it,” remarked Smithy with an cranky stammer.
Smithy always got upset when Kal interrupted his midday naps. Maybe he should consider getting a new apartment, nah. Probably too much work.
“You did not. Lissy got that for us at a garage sale on Garage Sale Day.”
As usually he was punishing his ears with facts and “reason”.
“Weh!” whined Smithy who rolled up a pillow and tossed it at Kal.
Kal caught it effortlessly and returned it neatly to the sofa. Smithy glared with his half napped bloodshot eyes. His large pink bat ears pricked backwards in annoyance.
Kal sighed.
“I see you’re going to be extra mature today?”
“Nobody pays me to be mature at 8:00 am.”
“Your customers do. Speaking of which, shouldn’t you be tending to your clients’ commissions right now?” Kal remarked with a grin.
Smithy bore his rows of razor sharp teeth at Kal.
“Don’t give me that. Rent’s due this month and I’m tired of hearing you complain about how far behind you are. We aren’t paying extra rent for that shed of yours just so you can sleep on the couch and waste it.”
Smithy whimpered like a puppy at his roommate. The two had a dialog for this just about every morning he caught Smithy on the couch asleep.
“Please! I practically invented the puppy eyes.”
They shared a giggle.
“I guess you’re riiiiiight,” whined Smithy.
With a huge yawn flowing out of his gills Smithy peeled himself from the couch into an upright position.
“Welcome to the living world Sleepyhead. It’s time for science.”
Smithy stretched his long whip-like tail out as another great yawn bellowed through him. He slugged down the rest of his disgusting black water with great reluctance. When can we get some real coffee around here?
