Snapback Story Time: Midwest Murrfest
Posted 11 years agoI could be all boring and post an "MFF Con Review" but it's getting close enough to Christmas so lets all get into the holiday spirit why don't we. Plus, who doesn't love a good ol' Snapback Story time?
LETS GET RIGHT DOWN TO BUSINESS HERE.
Never doing that much work before a con. Ever again. If I do, that shit's gotta be done 2 weeks BEFORE, NO LATER. That said though, I successfully managed to print, cut, laminate (with the help of amazingly chill & sweet
), AND wrap with some Canadian TREATS, a total of 26 individual (7 double sided making an actual total of 32) badges! While successfully forgetting a page of 4 badges including my own, GOOD JOB SNAP/
I still have 6 gifts wrapped with love that didn't get given, which will be mailed with another 5 (CON DELIVER-ER EXTRAORDINAIRE) in cat treat boxes bc fuck yeah.
But, that aside, still had fun, did cool shit, ran around as an otter, A++ on the fun scale. But, even then, the things I really wanna blab about, are the cons of this con (snrk I'm very punny)
As we know, Saturday was a testing night starting with "gas leak wtf?" & ending at "has anyone heard from ____?" and "contact everyone you know to make sure they're okay"
It could have in all seriousness been a lot worse, and the attack itself could have been much more malicious. I'm glad it was handled so well, and I'm proud of how well all of us stuck together and looked out for one another, despite the fact that it still leaves a bit of a sore spot on everyone's vibe.
There were some personal things I encountered over the weekend that left me feeling a bit more blue than usual but that's only my personal con experience. I would however like to speak up about something I keep noticing and really just gotta bitch about.
I didn't compete in Floor Wars or the Fursuit Dance Competition this year. I'd like to talk about why.
Alright so first, I actually did have something planned with a friend and idol of mine for the dance comp, but both of us didn't bother to sign up or anything lol Which after watching the preliminaries, I'm kind of glad we didn't. Aside from him having a very bad back at the con (I didn't even know about that haha), and already having way too much on my plate with badges, watching it all play out and hearing from those trying out I gotta say one very blunt thing.
Y'all way too up tight about fursuit dance competitions.
Seriously, I understand putting months of practice into a routine, careful planning, dedicating hours of time to it, but don't be upset when there's only like 20ish finalist slots and friggin like 35 people entered. Don't put that much work into something with that high of a cut rate unless you can take the fall without taking it out on others. If you're that serious about it, and reeeaaaally wanna perform it, keep trying again or, better yet, make a video out of it where you won't fuck up from stage pressure or slippery floor or something.
Of course, anyone is gonna have a bit of a hurting ego getting cut from tryouts, even I would be a little disappointed, but what I really hate seeing is "it's an elitist popularity competition" / "it's biased the judges all pick their friends" / "I worked super duper hard I don't think it's fair" So now anyone that got in is immediately gonna take the heat for others getting cut?!
I'm sorry but if that's what the attitude towards competitions is coming to, you won't see me entering in big dance competitions anymore. End of story. I don't want people being cheesed at me because I like dancing and wanted to enter the dance competition. Would people consider me elitist for being enthusiastic enough about dance that I get the chance to perform on the Sunday at a furry convention? With veteran and novice categories now, there should be NO reason for all this salt, but I'm seeing so very much of it, and want nothing to do with it.
This isn't World Of Dance guys, its a wee little dance competition panel at a furry convention..

I'm still gonna do this lil secret duo with my friend at a future con, and I'm still gonna enter the odd competition at my discretion, but unless the general attitude of many competitors changes from it's current high-sodium formula to a more positive one, I'll be enjoying more dance competitions from the side lines, cheering with others who, quite frankly, don't give two fucks about competing or cheering.
In accordance to "taking the heat", if anyone wants to argue me on my BitchRant, please do, I wouldn't complain about this if I wasn't prepared for a counter argument of some kind. Bring it on.
There's my essay on my weekend in Chicago (seriously though how do these journals end up so massive??? I suck) now lets not spend so long on some more stuff that SmepBek wants to rant about.
1. Got super nasty Norovirus (along with about 1k other peeps) and survived!
2. Had super awesome birthday weekend (planned last minute bc norovirus) and survived!
3. Christmas is in 9 days... Will I survive? To be determined...
Also I did mention doing badges AFTER mff (oh golly would you look at that mff was about a week ago)
I totes still wanna do them up to Christmas and through until after christmas too if people are interested, but you see I am superbad at doing the after part of like, printing, laminating, and shipping...
So I was wondering if y'all would be cool with like, just the digital art.
I'll do badges like I did for mff, and other art things, and just gib u da digital file. Mind you, for badges, I could totally absolutely print them out and finish them to take with me to a con for con delivery (like furnal equinox or something) you just would have to poke me like 2 weeks before the con.
...Does that sound gucci to you guys?...

I've developed a new style of drawing my badges that allows me to provide quality artwork in much quicker time than usual! Therefore, it's time to see how many I can hammer through! And for that, I need to make a clean, organized way of getting them out as efficiently as possible.
DIS EXAMPLE OF DE MFF BADGEZ
SO WE'RE GONNA TRY SOMETHIN NEW HERE KIDS, HERE'S THE GAMEPLAN:

- These are still gonna be PWIWTY (Pay What It's Worth To You)
- I still will not accept any kind of payment until after the badge is done; I'm very forgetful and have no idea how many I'll be able to do!
- These will be printed and laminated with badge clips and delivered at the convention on Friday when I arrive!
- This run will be for those ATTENDING Midwest Furfest!!!!!

LEVEL3- $11-20 ~ More detail! Along with being gift wrapped, it will also come in a gift bag with another small secret gift or two <3
LEVEL4- $21-35 ~ Lots of attention to detail! Comes in a larger gift bag with even more secret gifts! (extra doodles, Canadian goodies, who knows!)
LEVEL5- $36-50 ~ SO MUCH DETAIL!!!!!! Eligible for a Double-Sided badge! EXAMPLE Comes in a BOX, w lots of exciting secret gifts <333
BOSS LEVEL- $51+ ~ I'll basically be your B%#@&... and spoil you rotten. You can imagine how awesome your box will be :O

So, I don't really know if I can afford it but I'm hellbent on showing up at Anthrocon, hence, now that I'm finally back in a creative mood or some shit, time to do all the art y'all have been waiting for :D
To start I'll be doing shit in chronological order that people have noted me in asking when I'm gonna do their art, so I'll get those out of the way.
I don't know how much art I'll do but I'm gonna do art!

I've decided to start an interesting, interactive meme with my old fursuit head, Snapback v1
Why? Since I've created my newer head, Snapback v2, and have many plans for future heads and suits, I don't personally care very much about this version 1 anymore. Rather than having it rot away in my closet, or even worse, just throwing it away or scrapping it for parts so soon (only a year old) I would rather it make a much more exciting purpose. So I've come up with this idea.
The goal of the meme, is to have this head visit as many conventions (Both furry and anime) as possible, and pass through as many trustworthy hands as it takes to do so.
There will be a few rules, and a fair bit of trust involved, but it should be fairly simple to follow through, and hopefully quite fun. lets start with an introduction to all those who are or will be involved with this meme.

If so, welcome to the meme and thanks for taking on the challenge! I'm the original creator and owner of the head and the character, by the way. Here is a little instruction and some basic general rules on exactly what the hell is going on with 'passing this fursuit head around'.

● Please respect the head! I would like this head returned to me down the road in reasonable condition.
● Do not keep it for yourself! That would ruin the fun of the meme, and there's really no point for someone to keep it.
● Do not make alterations! Although the construction is not the best on this head, I would still highly prefer it to stay the way I sent it. If fixes need to be made though, that is perfectly fine!
● Please only pass it on to someone you trust; I wouldn't want the head passed to a stranger!
● THIS IS NOT A LOST FURSUIT HEAD!!!! I don't want it returned to me for quite a while, I want it to go on an adventure! Please do not try to immediately return it to me!!!
● At some point while in your ownership, please give it a quick clean! (preferably when you first receive it!) Simple instructions on cleaning and solutions will be listed below.

1. You have either received this head in the mail or at a con/meet/event you just went to, awesome.
2. You've come to this journal after finding some writing under the neck of the mentioned head, I'm glad you could figure it out!
3. Now that you have it, please let me know you do have it; Comment in this journal to let me know you are the current owner. You can also let me know who you got it from, from where, or how (more fun that way).
4. At the next con or meet that you go to, please bring this head with you. Enjoy it, and please do let your trusted friends enjoy it too!

♥ If something comes up and you will not be going to any cons/meets/events for the next several months, try to give it to someone close by who will be! Or, if willing, ship it off somewhere else, like to a land far far away kukuku
/// Cleaning instructions!!! ///
▼ First off, you will need a simple spray solution for cleaning! Here is two of my recommended formulas ▼
✱ Most common - 60% rubbing alcohol + 40% clean water
✱ The redneck recipe - unflavored vodka (40% alcohol content or more) and a bit of clean water (just to make the mix a little less strong)
Assuming you may not have a spray bottle free to use (if you don't own your own fursuit) using a clean fabric cloth will work just fine.
1. Wet the cloth with your cleaning solution so it is between wet and damp
2. Wipe the inside of the head taking special care to avoid the eyes (otherwise the paint will run!)
3. Do this until it is free of any strange and offensive odors!
4. Wipe down once more with a clean, damp cloth (water only this time)
5. direct a fan or two blowing inside the head to air dry
Presto! The head is clean and disinfected now and once dry is ready for use!

Posted 11 years agoAlright, so if you guys haven't already seen, I'm changing my fursona to a fox.
I just don't feel connected with otters anymore.
I've posted my new ref sheet, and will be deleting all art of snapback as an otter as I can start to fill up my gallery with fox pics.
I'll also be retiring the current snapback fursuit,
until I can gather the funds to create snapback fox.
Until then I won't be fursuiting, and you won't see any more of snapback the otter.
I'll keep you guys posted until I can get to that point!

FE Review <3 PCD/PCE
Posted 11 years agoAlright so let me just throw it out there right now; I normally have a hard time remembering cons already due to excitement. I HAVE AN EVEN HARDER TIME REMEMBERING THIS ONE LOL
That said though I had a 12 out of 10 time at FE this year.
My favorite part about my second time at FE was that; instead of not knowing anyone, meeting everyone for the first time, debuting a fursuit, trying to get used to the con space; The second I got there it was "OMFG WHATSYOURFACE COME HERE YOU SHIT I HAVEN'T SEEN YOU IN SO LONG <3"
This year was catching up with friends made a year ago, strengthening our friendships, and ontop of it, meeting new friends, seeing new faces, introducing and being introduced, and generally it became an amazing, surreal experience. Sad to say I didn't exactly suit all that much, whatever the reason may be for it. WHICH MEANS IT'S TIME TO GO ON A MAD GOOSE CHASE TO FIND MORE THAN 1 PICTURE OF ME IN SUIT LOL
Or at least one not from the parade.
I was on the judges panel for the dance comp this year which, can I say went AMAZING in terms of turnout and energy and enthusiasm and just, wow, the dancers we had this year blew me away. We almost tripled in entries, from 9 last year (O9C holla) to, drumroll, 27 jesus fucking christ spank me and call me daddy.
Despite this whopping number, all entries proceeded to the finals to make one hell of an amazing (though admittedly long) dance comp.
Shoutouts to 3rd, 2nd and 1st place winners!

As with all the recent dance comps it seems, there are some concerns and salty feelings. My hope is that they will be tackled and dissolved for next year to bring an even more amazing comp in 2015
Because of the length of the comp (half an hour PAST panel time) I wasn't able to do a showcase I had planned (no biggie tho idgaf) but because there was a bit of rushing, we weren't able to do some well deserved honorable mentions.
I'd like to give huge props to a few competitors who gave it their all.
Raepz, also known as Akanite, a returning performer who works his ass off to kick the competitions. Every single move and motion and step is a part of the dance, never misses a beat~

Windrunner. You captured everyone's undivided attention and had them mesmerized from the moment you started. Beautiful. I never would have expected something like that but I'm so happy you did it.
Eiko. Eiko Eiko Eiko. Another returning competitor who took the words of the judge last year to heart and absolutely blew everyone away. Your improvement from last year is so unbelievably inspiring, your passion, your dedication, I'm so proud of you and inspired by you. I can't wait to see where you take it from here.

We all like to have a blast at cons but we're cleanly, respectful and flexible. As long as you're ok with alcohol being kept in the room (all of legal age)
If you're hosting a party room we're totally up for that! If you have a quiet room, we will totally settle down or take it elsewhere.
Main hotel would be ideal, because fursuits, but I know it's getting close to con time so I ain't gonna bitch about it.
None of us intend on occupying any bed space esp if there is none available, because floors are awesome, and so are chairs.

As of right now, any new inquiries will probably not be done in time for FE or FWA delivery. I would start doing AC delivery, but I still don't know if I'll be able to attend for sure.

Thing is, hours are cut at work (I've gone from 5-6 shifts a week to like... 2...)
I'm so against doing quote unquote Commissions it's ridiculous, but I do like doing art for people and, if they like it, accepting whatever it's worth to them.
So basically Tl;Dr I'm gonna art my way to FWA (and FE).
-I'll draw anything and everything from badge type stuff to icon things to full fledged art pieces or art ragey shit or whatever the hell erupts from my bosom.
-I'll do trippy shit, normal colored shit, themed shit, whatever the fuck strikes my fancy if that's what floats your boat.
-You throw me characters and some ideas or guidelines or "just draw me something dope as fuck" or "I want a trippy badge" or "I want one of your hypno badges specifically and if I don't get a hypno badge I'll stab you with a squirrel"
-I'll draw that shit like I'm giving my tablet a rough dirty kinky massage and then respond to your comment (please comment it helps keep me organized rather than notes!) or whatever with the freaky art love child.

so I'm writing this shit now
Because I fucking partied on NYE and the next day hopped on a greyhound and sat on it for the next 18 hours heading to Boston.
ON THE WAY I GOT TO SEE NEW YORK CITY AND SHIT LIKE THAT AND IT WAS COOL.

I think I had a new years resolution before I went on my trip, but at this point I can't remember what it is and I'm just gonna figure it out and go with it.

Because I fucking partied on NYE and the next day hopped on a greyhound and sat on it for the next 18 hours heading to Boston.
ON THE WAY I GOT TO SEE NEW YORK CITY AND SHIT LIKE THAT AND IT WAS COOL.
Then I basically spent nearly 2 weeks in New Hampshire with
