TF game jam 2025!
General | Posted a month ago
Yafath and
MalicTheWriter 's yearly TF game jam has begun! It runs until Nov 29th.https://itch.io/jam/tf25
If you've ever considered making a TF game, whether that's a video game, a text-only interactive story, a board game, a tabletop RPG, or any other form of interactive TF media, this is a wonderful excuse to try your hand (/paw/hoof/etc.) at it! I'll provide some free tools for making games below!
If you've never made a game before, here are a variety of resources that you could consider learning, all of which are free and well-suited to people who have never programmed before!
For text-based stuff, I really like Twine, which is very similar to using FurAffinity’s text formatting tools to add italics or links to comments.
Another TF artist made what is, in my option, the single best tutorial for writing interactive stories in Twine: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/36277631/
From just the first tutorial you can make a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure-style story, and with all of them combined, you can start making fairly complex games and stories!
Now, if you're really trying to make a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure-style story (don't call it that or "CYOA" though, Chooseco will try to take it down), try Yarn Spinner for Books! It'll let you easily create PDF/printable path-picking gamebooks.
If you're more on the visual side of things but want to make a game like that, consider RenPy! It's the most popular framework for creating visual novels, and has plenty of tutorials available.
Narrat Engine is a brand-new option, intended for creating experiences that use a Disco-Elysium-ish style of text-based RPG storytelling with lots of room for text and visuals by breaking away from the typical format of a visual novel.
If you're more interested in making top-down exploration focused games for the GameBoy (+Color), GB Studio is a great option.
Of course, for a more fully-featured experience, Godot, Unity, and Unreal are all free for hobbyists as well!
For folks making tabletop games, I really appreciate nanDECK for creating and iterating on card designs. Being able to edit a bunch of cards at once easily is so nice!
I hope you all enjoy your time in the jam, making games is fun!
TF-themed tarot deck, live now!
General | Posted 4 months agohttps://www.thegamecrafter.com/crow.....ana-tarot-deck
I'm running a crowdfunding campaign for a TF-themed major arcana tarot deck using art from the To Change and Island of Dr. Moreau TTRPGs right now! It features 22 tarot cards illustrated by
6mels9 , and 7 double-sided art cards with illustrations by
angrboda ,
arania , Bianca Gazzingan , Bilexth ,
blackshirtboy ,
6mels9 ,
strawberrytfs , and Winter Skye !!
The campaign is using a "crowd sale" model. It has already met the goal required to get the deck produced, but the more copies that sell, the higher the discount everyone will get on it! Right now we're at 52 sales and 27% off:$18.99 $13.21, and the final price can only go down further if more people join!
Thanks for your support!

Thank you for 1000 TF Game Review Followers!
General | Posted 11 months agoIf you don't know already, I write little review/summary things about TF games on Itch.io and Steam under the name "TF Curator" (mostly because I wanted the account to be separate so that people wouldn't need to subscribe to updates about my games to get info about everyone else's, and vice versa), and I just passed 1000 followers on the Itch.io version of that list! (I'm at just shy of 400 on the Steam version, which makes sense as Steam just has fewer TF games in general than Itch does)
And hey, if you haven't already followed my reviews there, consider checking them out!
https://itch.io/c/1814648/tf-games
https://store.steampowered.com/curator/43411616/
I also keep a list of non-game TF media on Itch, but while the game list isn't complete, this one's even further from being complete, haha: https://itch.io/c/1997067/other-tf-media
(Also: if you've made a game that I haven't covered yet, feel free to reach out! I try to prioritize games that people ask me to cover, and the queue of those is only three games long at the moment. ...the queue for games nobody's asked me to cover is nearly three hundred games long for comparison, haha)
Thanks for your support! I might have something in the works to celebrate this soon, so keep an eye out for that!
(In particular, the "something" is a transformation-themed game jam, haha. I'll be preparing lots of resources for folks and critters who have never made a game before!)

TF Game Jam 2024 has begun!

Yafath and
MalicTheWriter have hosted a transformation-themed game jam every year for the past three years, and this one has just begun. If you've ever considered making a TF game, whether that's a video game, a text-only interactive story, a board game, a tabletop RPG, or any other form of interactive TF media, this is a wonderful excuse to try your hand (/paw/hoof/etc.) at it! Strawberry Jam 8 has started! [Game Jam]
General | Posted 2 years agoSince I try to point out opportunities to create TF-themed games, I'd be remiss to not tell you all about 🍓Strawberry Jam! It's a casual game jam running throughout the month of February for making "horny" games.
What "horny" means is entirely up to you though, sexual content is not required if that's not the sort of game you'd like to make for it. (It's still 100% allowed if that's what you'd like to make, of course!)
If you're interested in joining a team, there's plenty of that still happening in the discord server that's linked on the jam's page, and if you're interested in collaborating, feel free to reach out! (...though I'll likely be more busy than I'd like this month.)

Now to paste the ending of my journal on 2022's TF Game Jam:

Bitsy is similar to RPGMaker in a lot of ways, but stripped down to just the bare essentials for telling a story. It's incredibly restrictive, especially in terms of art though. It's used to make games like this: https://dreamingamaris.itch.io/get-sword-kill-dragon-save-princess, and doesn't require --or support-- coding!
GB Studio is a tool for making simple games that run on real GameBoy and GameBoy Color hardware! It's pretty well put together and easy to use with the help of a tutorial or two.
Renpy is specifically for visual novels, but it definitely does those well!
(You could also make a tabletop game, or use something out of the ordinary like PowerPoint!)

The TF TTRPG jam has begun!
General | Posted 3 years agoIn case you missed my last journal about this, the Transformation Tabletop Role Playing Game Jam is a 2-month period where a bunch of people are coming together to make games centered around TF!
I'd really recommend giving this a shot! Game jams are tons of fun to participate in, and tabletop game jams in particular are really easy to get started with. All you need is an Itch.io account and an idea (or failing that, a team to collaborate with!).
If you'd like to find a team, the jam's forum or the To Change Discord server are both places to ask around. With two months to work, you could do everything yourself if you're not looking for that experience, though!
Plus, if you need a bit more motivation to participate, the prize pool has been expanded since the last time I talked about it, with art from Pobblebonked, PythosCheetah, (and potentially at least one more artist) up for grabs, along with copies of the video game Mice Tea, in addition to the previous prize pool (art from Mel, signed copies of To Change, digital copies of To Change, seeing your game played live).
And, since I promised some help with finding resources for the jam in my last post about it, here are some helpful links!
Public domain art:
https://www.oldbookillustrations.com/
https://artvee.com/
Icons & dice (CC-BY, so you need to credit the people who made them somewhere):
https://speakthesky.itch.io/typeface-dicier/
https://game-icons.net/
For anything card-related:
https://www.nandeck.com/
Fonts:
https://fonts.google.com/
Itch.io page layout help:
https://starwest.itch.io/itch-page-image-templates
If you're planning on designing game systems to go along with the narrative aspects of your submission, consider, browsing around on https://itch.io/physical-games, there's tons of neat stuff there. It could be fun to experiment in the realms of GM-less play, journaling games, or gamebooks!
Oh, and if you're looking for a pre-made TTRPG system that's tailor-made for telling TF stories, you could always buy To Change or make use of the instructions given in the jam's rules for obtaining a free copy.

Two upcoming game jams for TF folks!
General | Posted 3 years ago(NSFW) Strawberry Jam is returning for its seventh year! If you participate, you'll have the month of February to make a game that you find horny. For inspiration, check out some previous entries, or read this great post that Eevee wrote about the jam!
Right after that ends, there'll be a TF-focused TTRPG jam hosted by the team that made To Change. It runs for two months, and asks you to make a TF-focused tabletop gaming scenario. If you need a bit of a push to try making something for it, this jam features some prizes to be won!
I'd totally recommend trying to make something for one or both of these, game jams are tons of fun to participate in!

Find me over on Cohost!
General | Posted 3 years ago-> https://cohost.org/SnepShark <-
I've really been enjoying my time on Cohost!
There isn't really anywhere else where someone will make the most evil version of Lights Out in CSS and another person will work out its solution by solving a 54x54 linear system in ℤ₂. Seriously, go check that out!
I'm also on Mastodon, but I'm still not sure what I'll be posting about over there, or even if I'm going to stay on the instance I'm currently using. https://mastodon.gamedev.place/@SnepShark

Upcoming TF game jam!
General | Posted 3 years agoIf you have any interest in creating a transformation-themed game, there's a TF game jam happening for the duration of next month! Game jams are tons of fun, I'd really encourage you to give it a try, even if you've never made a game before.

TF me! (Mini survey)
General | Posted 3 years agoI ran a quick little survey over on someone else's Discord for how I'll represent my character in the near future so that I can lose a bit of control over my appearance for a bit, but I've only received 7 responses so far. As a result, there are a few ties going on right now that I'd like to see broken, haha.
Here's the survey: https://forms.gle/3t6QpGzFfmkVM1Pf6
Edi: Wow, I wasn't expecting to get even a couple after just 20 min.
...there are now more ties in other spots, haha.
The changes vs the other places I've asked is an interesting juxtaposition too, but getting into where the differences lie while the form's still open might skew the results.

General | Posted 4 years agoSweet! I'm mostly writing this just so I can see when I hit specific follower milestones.
As of right now, that's 18% of my Twitter follower count, and 10% of my Itch.io follower count.
