[SOA] 2016 Camping/wheeling trip
General | Posted 10 years agoI know this has been talked about several times before, but God damnit we need to make this happen! The plan is to do a weekend camping trip, sometime next spring or summer. Or perhaps we can do two trips. One in the spring and one in the fall. One farther north and one farther south. We need ideas, suggestions, recommendations on where we need to go, when we want to go, ect. Please chime in some ideas. Like I said before, we really need to make this happen next year, and we have almost a whole year to plan it, so let's fuckin do this!

Mohave Desert Short Offroad Vid
General | Posted 10 years agoI had my co-pilot take a short vid on the way home. It's a bit shaky, sorry. We were all pretty burned out by the end of the trip.

badlandcoyote -Out[video] some XJ rock crawling action
General | Posted 10 years agoWent up to the Niagra Rim trail this weekend and concurred the toughest obstacle on the trail, The Rock Pile. Made it through with only minor body damage and a small dent in the rear diff cover. Also, excuse the shaky camera. I think the cameraman was more focused on watching me with his eyes and not the camera.

Interesting or Dangerous Wildlife
General | Posted 10 years agoSo today while a friend and I were out doing some hiking deep in the forest, we had a fairly close encounter with a good sized cougar. It's really quite majestic how effortless they leap and bound over obstacles that we would otherwise have to struggle to climb. And to be less than a hundred feet from such a big wild animal that can take you out in a single pounce is quite invigorating. So what sort of interesting or dangerous wildlife have you guys run into while out and about?
Slickrock Trail Video
General | Posted 10 years agoWent on a run to Slickrock Trail with the local 4x4 club I'm apart of. When I first got my XJ, a good friend of mine and I took it out here bone stock, and needless to say, it didn't get too far. He then proceeded to give me the challenge to build it up enough to run the entire Slickrock Trail. Three years later, I've finally accomplished that goal

Sticky Situations
General | Posted 11 years agoNot a whole lot of wheeling action going on since the holidays are pretty much consuming all my gas money...stupid gifts...so lets forget what we could be doing and instead reminisce on wheeling events of the past. Sticky situations. Whether you've sunk in mud down to the frame, got high centered on a rock, or got your 2wd chevy stuck in the driveway (yes, I've seen it happen). share with us your best "getting stuck" story

This post is about locked gates
General | Posted 11 years agoDon't you hate it when your cruising some forest roads with a group way the hell out in the middle of nowhere trying to get somewhere, and FUCKING BAM! Locked gate. That happened today. Had to back track almost 15 miles and take another route around. I know not every member lives in the forest, but anyone else have any similar situations that they've ran into? Lets hear them! (because this club needs way more participation)
King of the Hammers 2015
General | Posted 11 years agoIf you don't know what that is, it's a week long event that hosts one of the most grueling off road races in north America and it takes place in the southern California desert in early February. I'm planning on going to see the everyman challenge (feb 8) and the KOH race (feb 9). Anyone else interested in going and possibly meeting up?

Video
General | Posted 11 years agoSo I ended up going to one of the more popular trails in my area (Niagra Rim) with the 4x4 club I'm part of. Didn't do a whole lot of wheeling, but did tackle part of the most difficult runs on the trail.

Wheeling Rig of Choice?
General | Posted 11 years agoI know the questions been asked before but that was 3 years ago. do over!
So spent the weekend camping with family at Slickrock Trail near Lake Alpine, CA. Climbed around on the rock with my XJ, got to see some awesome rigs to some awesome things, including this old XJ with a 2" lift, 31's, and welded front n rear diffs easily cruising down the hardest obstacle on the trail
https://youtu.be/-ASjiMprElE
So it got me thinking, whats your wheeling rig of choice? what do you think would be best to tackle the rocks? mud bogs? Overland journeys? List as many as you want.

Lets Jumpstart This Bitch!
General | Posted 11 years agoSo after two years of almost no activity, I, 4x4Husky been given permission to become an admin for this page to help update it more frequently. I own a 98' XJ and go wheeling both solo and with a local 4x4 club fairly often, so i'll be able to update this page with frequent pics and journals of my adventures. However, i'm sure you guys don't wanna see the same jeep over and over again, so come on! give us some content to post! whatever you got! And remember, we don't just do pics. If you have an event you wanna put together, share a story/adventure, show us a cool pic for us to fave, let us know and we'll make it happen.
Also, I'm updating the member/location section on the front page to include your vehicle year, make, and model. If you're already on the front page and would like your vehicle included, send us a note. Same goes with anybody who's not on the list. If you wanna be on it, send us your info and we'll get you up there. Cus' come on, who doesn't like being on the front page?
Well thats all i got for now.

NORCAL Offroad Camping Trip [Apr 19-20-14]
General | Posted 12 years agoThe third weekend of April (19-20th)
TomCat4x4 and
4x4husky are putting together a wheeling/camping trip East of Sacramento. It hasn't been fully planned out yet, but it will either be somewhere around hwy 4 or 108 in the sierras. If we're lucky, we might be able to get to a cabin out in the middle of nowhere. The more people the better.

General | Posted 12 years agoOur brother association's member
TomCat4x4 will be passing through our region in a few months and wants some offroad action! It's still a ways out, but we'll update you with specifics when it gets a bit closer.
Chime in if you're down to spin some tires and light some fires, and stay tuned!

Badland Convoy Trip 2/11/11
General | Posted 15 years agoSpur of the moment offroad trip we made at noon when my boss payed me $20- so we went wheelin for 6 hours out in the badlands. All in all- Me, SiberianGhost, Dan, and his friend went out exploring and brush bashing/muddin. We got to the top of the peak and there was some old ass gate in the way of us making progress- so I rammed it open and we pressed on past some radio towers. We went another 2 miles and took a drink break, Dan ate too much when he smoked and threw up what looked to be a gallon of food and liquids, he then proceeded to take a shit behind an old concrete water tank just off-trail and made us turn around because he felt like shit[how fitting]. When me and Alek stopped at the ridge to make a call and piss he decided to keep going and go home- so we crossed the riverbed instead of turning off to the exit trail. We were going down an old unmaintained road when we came over the top of a hill and we both hit a car sized pot hole that was 2 feet deep. I almost hit my face on the steering wheel and he rode his motorcycle on his front tire for a few feet. I think I need new briefs. We got to a forest service gate that was so thick a Kenworth couldn't plow through it- and it had 13 locks on it. we were on the side we weren't supposed to be on :P We found a sign and a map on a small billboard of the area, and the restricted areas. We were both running on empty by this time and decided not to explore further, and turn tail and leave.
I beat the shit out of my truck today- hitting foot-deep potholes all day long at no less than 35 mph. Did a nice 50 foot burnout to out of The Whopper Layer [warehouse]. Also hit a few good sized rocks throwing a couple tools into the air and back onto my floor :P
All in all- very worth the $20 in gas I used.
