I’ve spent several years in the furry community, finding my niche among like-minded people and making friends through the connections I’ve built, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I’ve amassed a sizable following on my various social media profiles, and I have so many great clients and supporters who share and buy my art, and I’m eternally grateful for having the privilege of being able to support myself with my art. I am proud to call myself an artist, and have such a vast catalog of art to back me up.
But, despite working harder than ever and being the most successful I’ve ever been… I feel unfulfilled. Resentful, even. And it’s not the “taking commissions” part that’s been weighing on me.
It’s the fact that my entire online presence is defined by fetish art.
When I first started posting it and taking commissions for it, it felt empowering and subversive in a way that felt so freeing to me at the time. I was ashamed of my fetishes and sexuality for the longest time, and finding a community of people who not only shared similar interests, but were willing to pay me money to draw it for them?! It was perfect! I was set! Sure, maybe I had to dodge telling my family what exactly I was drawing, but it was worth it. Right?
At the time, yes. Now, though? I can’t stand to look at my own art half the time.
I hate what my online presence is. I can’t show most people what I do for work. I have so many pieces of art that I cannot share with everyone, only a very specific audience. I have to hide my art from my family and a lot of my friends, especially those who are minors or sex-repulsed or just… not interested in vore. Feeling overworked constantly, taking on so much work while severely undercharging, having people know me for just the fetishy pictures I draw like that’s my single defining trait? It’s taken a massive toll on my mental health, to the point that I questioned if I want to actually make art for a living and felt tempted to just stop drawing altogether, because it feels like such a massive chore…
I’ve begun to feel like, just like in a past abusive relationship, I am being used and only seen as a means to sexual gratification, not a person, not an artist with a life outside of the kink scene. Knowing that my online presence was inexplicably tied to sexuality and fetishes, when it was used so much against me? At first, like I said earlier, it felt empowering and good… but now it’s just reminded me too much of how I was only ever viewed as a means to an end to someone selfish and abusive.
Of course, I don’t blame ANY of my clients or supporters for this, so please don’t take this as an accusation of anyone being abusive toward me or treating me badly – nobody has. It’s just an explanation for the way my brain has been processing everything, and to show how this has been affecting my mental health. It’s dug up traumatic memories I’d suppressed for years, just being reminded of the FEELING of being used just for sex, and my job shouldn’t be doing that to me! I have to do this for the sake of healing from my trauma that’s affected me so deeply – I can’t keep ignoring how much it’s ripping me apart. And I can’t keep pushing myself so hard constantly, for something that no longer feels good or rewarding.
Earlier this past month, I took a small break for my mental health and a family emergency, and during that, I took the time to just… draw. No deadline. No demand to do anything in particular. Just drawing for me, like I used to. I figured it would help me unwind and feel more grounded, maybe ease the burnout feeling. And as I did, I realized how much I’ve been depriving myself of what I love. I love my art, I love to draw, and I want to love my work again. I’ve been having an amazing time doing projects and illustrations for my fiance and I, and I can feel what’s been missing for so long. I no longer want to feel beholden to a certain fetish, feel like I have to sequester and hide my art when what I want more than anything is to share it with people. I want to do what makes me happy instead of just what makes me money.
I still obviously like vore and porn, that won’t ever change, and I hold absolutely no ill-will whatsoever to people who choose to draw these subjects for a living – maybe one of these days, I’ll post these things again, unattached to my public social media presence. But for now, the fetish artwork path is no longer one I want to walk on. It’s now something I only want to share with my significant other and close friends, not with strangers on the internet. It’s a personal thing to me and not really something I want to keep public, and I’ll be honest, I’m sick of people talking to me JUST for fetish talk.
I’m obviously going to finish up my queue as soon as possible, and I encourage anyone who I owe commissions to please keep in contact with me as I finish your project. For my Patrons, I will finish up a final round of sketch requests before I shut down my Patreon at the end of the month. I will also be shutting down my discord server, so if you are on it and have things you want to save, I recommend doing that ASAP. Any accounts I have under “SoftSpots” will be kept up as an archive and I will link to my new social media once I establish them, so those interested can still follow me.
I know I’ll take a financial hit, since I know some people following me are only interested in my vore art. If you unfollow, I understand – I don’t want you to feel forced to follow my work if it’s not something you’re interested in. But I appreciate anyone who’s here for my art and myself, no matter the subject matter. Without all of you reading this, I’d be absolutely miserable and still stuck as a retail wage slave! I’m blessed to be able to do this as my job, and I hope that I can still make my living even if I’m going to be doing SFW art.
I’ll take the time to set up new social media accounts or retrofit existing ones and link them on all my platforms so people can follow me again. Thank you so much for reading this. I love you all and I look forward to where things are going to go from here! <3

PATREON RESTRUCTURING 2: THE COOLER RESTRUCTURING

So. I really need to start focusing on this fuckin thing more again and a little less on custom coms. I'm so ungodly burnt out it's not even funny and I want to pursue more non-commission projects thru here! Plus, I've noticed engagement and pledges have gone down, esp since I've been so slow to get to actual art and update everything. Fuck even the Shen pic for OCTOBER is still not done because I've been trying to get through my queue first. I fuckin HATE being so behind and slow. I do NOT want to be that artist that's known to only deliver once a century.
So what do I have planned to get engagement back up, mitigate the burnout, and make this my priority income? Well buckle up, I've got an even better restructuring plan.
Most things are staying generally the same, but I decided to add and change a few tier rewards to make it more appealing for people, but to also more evenly distribute my workload so this burnout shit doesn't keep happening over and over again.
Here's a basic rundown of the rewards each tier will have. As you go up the rewards from previous tiers still apply unless otherwise stated!
(Keep in mind comics will probably not be a priority until I've gotten this more stabilized so it'll probably be a bit until you see any rewards pertaining to comics. I still have every intention of doing them though.)
Bronze
- Finished pics
- Monthly pic voting
- ONE idea bucket submission per month
- Comic access month after release
Silver
- Work in progress pics
- Up to TWO idea bucked submissions per month
- Comic access when finished
Gold
- Chance for single character monochrome bust sketch, once monthly
- Comic WIPs
Platinum
- Chance for monochrome fullbody/waist-up sketch, once monthly
- Comic cameos? Big maybe on this one but it'd be cool to do!

LIFE + COMMISSION UPDATE
Posted 4 years agoSo, crazy circumstances have been happening in my life the past week; I'd rather not divulge on details since it's private, but to put it simply I'll need to start saving a lot of money ASAP. I'm going to need to start taking emergency commissions and saving up as much money as I possibly can. I know I said I'd wait until my queue was totally cleared before taking more commissions, but this is a legitimate emergency and I really have no choice but to take on more work.
Everyone who's in my queue: I'll be setting myself new hours to be working more hours on weekdays and working on weekends to get your guys' commissions to you as soon as I can. This will still probably take a while but I seriously need to start raising as much money as I can in the meantime. I ask you be patient with me while this is happening as it's stressful and even though I'll try and be working as much as I can, it'll be rough.

Changing Up

So, I'll be honest, my workload has been way too much lately. I need to take less custom commissions, especially larger projects, because they take up so much time and energy on top of all the other ones. I can see myself on the edge of falling into that awful vicious cycle so many commission artists put themselves into: their queue gets longer and longer the more they have to open for commissions since they're short on money, and then the queue is never ending or years long. I don't want to fall into that, ever.
I thought I could push through it, thought that if I just didn't address it I would get through it on my own. But god dammit, I'm being honest now: this fucking sucks, I'm burnt out as fuck, and I have way too long of a fucking queue.
So. I need to fix it before I end up in a pit I can't get out of.
Part of my solution to prevent myself from having a complete burnout and keeping my queue short is making larger custom commissions (aka anything shaded or multi-part) an exclusively patron-only privilege.
I know that's going to be a decision that bums people out but if I keep doing shit the way I am now I am 100% going to have a mental breakdown and then I'll REALLY not be able to do any art. I'll still open slots for smaller projects but the large ones I have to be pickier about.
I still intend on finishing my queue completely even if it takes over a month (which it likely will), but I will not take any more until it's finished. If anyone would like to be refunded instead of waiting, I'll be happy to arrange that. I may throw up an adopt or something if I'm really short on money and you are of course free to throw money at me through Ko-fi (https://ko-fi.com/softspotsart) in the meantime if you still wish to support me.
I'm so sorry I let it get this bad. You guys deserve so much better than having to wait forever for art, then watch me take on even more. I know that's frustrating to see. I don't want to be that type of person. I want all of my clients to be satisfied with the service I provide for them. And I'm not doing that right now.
Like I said, anyone who is on my queue and would rather get a refund than wait, please get in contact with me and I can work it out with you. I intend on finishing every order I've put into my trello but it will likely take some time. I don't blame you if you'd rather not wait.

So, I'll be honest, my workload has been way too much lately. I need to take less custom commissions, especially larger projects, because they take up so much time and energy on top of all the other ones. I can see myself on the edge of falling into that awful vicious cycle so many commission artists put themselves into: their queue gets longer and longer the more they have to open for commissions since they're short on money, and then the queue is never ending or years long. I don't want to fall into that, ever.
I thought I could push through it, thought that if I just didn't address it I would get through it on my own. But god dammit, I'm being honest now: this fucking sucks, I'm burnt out as fuck, and I have way too long of a fucking queue.
So. I need to fix it before I end up in a pit I can't get out of.

TWO NEW COMMISSION TYPES!
Posted 4 years agoHowdy everyone! I wanted to announce that I am taking two new commission types!
The first will be symmetrical avatars: THESE WILL ALWAYS BE OPEN!
They are $15 each, and only of busts, nothing below the neck.
They're pretty quick and easy to make, so I figure these can be one I can always take, as I can finish them in about an hour or so. These are usually done between other commissions as a warm-up or cool-down.
The second will be looping talksprites! The examples I have now are only of Homestuck characters, but I will do any sort of character species or style for them! These will only open on occasion since they're higher effort.
They'll be $30 for a single base talking animation, and $25 per additional expression. I'll probably open a few slots for these in a week or two so I can have more examples.

I also wanted to announce that bigger looping animations like these are going to be discontinued until further notice.
I have no idea how to price these anymore since they vary so much in workload and they are pretty big projects, so I'd rather not take any more of these until I can price them appropriately. I may do an animation YCH occasionally, but custom ones are going to not be an option for the forseeable future. Sorry if this is disappointing to anyone :'(
