FarmD needs character models! (closed)
Posted 3 years agoHey gang, so with the upcoming shift to more content-focused development, one of the things I want to get started on is adding more species to the game, both anthro and feral. However, I am very slow at modelling and also don't feel like spending a lot of time doing that instead of development, so I'm looking to commission or hire a 3d artist to make some character models for the game - or else to license an artist for the use of their existing models. So if you know of artists that are open for commissions and would be interested in making anthro or feral characters, please do send them my way. Obviously they would need to be comfortable with their characters being involved in the content of the game - feral/anthro, watersports, eventually vore - as some people get picky about that sort of thing.

Posted 3 years agoIn July, the first supporter poll went out for future feature priority - here are the top results:
1. More sex positions
2. Feral player option (and feral/feral positions)
3. AI personality development (dialogue, preferences, dom/sub training, etc)
So, following support for anthro partners in v1.5.0, these will be the focus of v1.6.0, v1.7.0, and v1.8.0 respectively, which together will take up a good part of 2023. The next supporter poll towards the end of that period will determine the next set of features to prioritize.

- Custom character imports. Likely will be a Unity asset/tool for importing a rigged character and setting up their components.
- Animation overhaul. With the custom character importing, there may need to be rig changes which will break some existing animations. This was anticipated, so most of the animations currently in-game are simplified or placeholders, which could then be refined and improved.
- Farmhouse interior.
- A handful of smaller features like dildo/masturbation support for desktop mode, a VR-mode tutorial, and audio updates.

Posted 3 years agoWith the FarmD v1.2.0 public build releasing shortly, the next big task on my list is to start on support for custom character imports. This is going to involve some tool programming for a Unity asset, reworking some character handling things to support it in-game, and most likely changes to the character rigs which will require animations to be fixed or redone. Since it's quite a big task that can't easily be broken into small steps to release in intermediate alpha builds, it may be a while before the next viable build is ready, and I'm not anticipating that will be done within a month.
So if you're a supporter and need to save a few bucks, unsubscribe before the end of the month and check back when there's a new build posted. Thanks for the support so far!

Posted 4 years agoWith the public release of FarmD v1.0, I just wanted to give a big thank you to everyone who's been following along, and to all the very generous people supporting the project that allow me to work on this full-time! <3 <3
Here's what's in the works for future stuff (aside from what was already announced for v1.1).

Keep in mind this is like "entire wishlist of things to do" and not necessarily near-future stuff. But I'll get there eventually! I just figured some people would like a long-view look at planned content for the game. Also! I'm going to be changing how I do version numbering a little bit going forward. Moving forward, supporter builds will instead be v1.0.1, v1.0.2, etc. and the next public build will be v1.1.0. I've got two separate ways of tracking the tasks I'm working on - one is my Trello board, which has some high-level tasks that I haven't been very good about keeping up to date, and one is a huuuuge text document with a bunch of finer details, plans, and random notes for my current tasks. When I was planning out content for FarmD v1.0, I was mostly looking at the Trello - and didn't realize just *how much* content I had planned out in my notes that should get built before some of the things that I had listed in the previous roadmap.
So, what I'm going to do is split my previous roadmap for v1.0 into two separate builds (v1.0 and v1.1), with some new details on the additional stuff I had planned. I've also filled out a lot more details in my Trello from my other notes, and will try to do better about keeping it up to date so this doesn't become a problem again later.

- Restore desktop mode, plus free-roaming and some new actions
- New position, riding derg's dick while he lies on his back
- Drake mawplay
v1.1:
- Support for non-roomscale VR setups
- Drake giving oral
- Female + herm drake options
- Some new commands / interactions (pawplay, sit on my face)
- Bed/mattress for sleeping and cuddlefucks

Posted 5 years agoHey gang. Been a little quiet around here in the way of WIPs, but things are still moving along at a good pace. It's just that I've gotten into the "important but not visually interesting backend stuff" stage of the development, so there isn't all that much to show off right now. For example, I'm currently setting up the IK system that will later become full-body tracking in VR, and will (hopefully) also allow me to easily create animations for the desktop version on the same rig for faster iteration, so I don't have to do this back-and-forth development cycle with the desktop/VR features.
Up until now, I've kind of been in the "rapid prototyping" mode and slapping things together to see what works. While that's fine for the short-term, I'm taking some time now to make sure these systems are organized properly, and won't fall apart when I get to the future exciting stuff like multiple partners, anthro-anthro interactions, and multiplayer.
I've got one more WIP clip planned that I should get to by the end of the month, with v0.4 wrapping up shortly after that. Thanks for your patience <3

I've said before that I don't want to put up a paywall for the game until after 1.0, and I'd like to keep it that way. But as I've been working on this project, I've really started to lose interest in my day job and would much rather switch to gamedev full-time in somewhat less time than it would take to get to that version. So I decided on a compromise and made some tip jars, since some people have already expressed an interest in supporting the project.

Slight change re: VR release
Posted 5 years agoHey all, going to be changing things up a little bit with the release schedule for the next few versions. From the roadmap, the plan was previously going to be:
0.3.0: handplay with dragon junk
0.3.0-VR: first VR build, with hand interactions
0.4.0: oral play
0.4.0-VR: adds oral play to VR
Instead, I'm going to be collapsing these and switching the order up a bit:
0.3.0-VR: first VR build, with hand + mouth interactions
0.4.0: non-VR version with hand + mouth stuff
Mainly because the addition of mouthplay stuff for VR would have been pretty small (basically adding support for the player's head tracker) and didn't really warrant its own module, and switching the order around means the VR version is going to be out a bit sooner - I'm starting work on it right now.

On Lore
Posted 5 years agoBeen coming up with some ideas for the (eventual) story mode and realized I haven't actually explained why there's a dragon in a stable in the first place. So here's a tiny bit of lore stuff.
You are a farmhand, living in untitled vaguely-fantasy-setting land. It's a simple life, and for the most part a quiet one. However, with raids increasing from both wild predators and outlaws, and peacekeepers few and far between in this remote countryside, your boss has turned to a more obscure form of protection. You'd heard at least one of your more intrepid neighbors had struck up a deal with a dragon: ward off intruders in exchange for a warm place to sleep, the odd shiny trinket, and an occasional easy meal of fat sheep or slow-moving bandit.
And so you've come to meet Kade, a woodland drake taking up residence in your farm's stable. He seems good-tempered enough, and certainly takes to his new job with aplomb. For the first time since you moved to this post, you're able to sleep soundly, without fear of a nighttime attack or of waking to the bloody scraps of a predator's feast on your livestock. In a short time, the raids have almost stopped entirely, their perpetrators moving on to easier targets, and the dragon-smell has kept out the skulking beasts from your land.
But your guardian has become a victim of his own success: with less and less work needing done, his growing boredom is apparent even to you, often preoccupied with your daily chores. Then one day, when your work takes you to the stable, he propositions you for a little fun to pass the time~. You can take a quick break, right?

Looking for voice actors/actresses
Posted 5 years agoHey all, it's time to put some sound in this game. I have most of the sound effects covered already, still need to source a few more. But this journal is more about vocal stuff, because I can't make my voice sound like a female snow leopard or a large dragon lad.
I'm looking to commission some talented people for a couple different voice-acting roles, prices negotiable and all that. For each of these positions, I'm requiring some examples of prior work (not necessarily some big published work, could just be samples that you can link/send me), and you must have a good microphone / recording setup - I am a bit picky about quality.
Player
This will be for voicing the player character in the game. At this point, I'm mainly looking for a female voice actor, but I will be needing a male VA later once I have the model for that made.
- I am not planning for any spoken dialogue for the characters at this time - dirty talk etc has never been something that interested me, and any in-game dialogue will most likely be text-only. So this role will largely be variations of pleasure/moan/breathing/effort sounds and similar lewd noises. I still need to write up an exact list of requirements.

I'm looking to commission some talented people for a couple different voice-acting roles, prices negotiable and all that. For each of these positions, I'm requiring some examples of prior work (not necessarily some big published work, could just be samples that you can link/send me), and you must have a good microphone / recording setup - I am a bit picky about quality.
Player
This will be for voicing the player character in the game. At this point, I'm mainly looking for a female voice actor, but I will be needing a male VA later once I have the model for that made.
- I am not planning for any spoken dialogue for the characters at this time - dirty talk etc has never been something that interested me, and any in-game dialogue will most likely be text-only. So this role will largely be variations of pleasure/moan/breathing/effort sounds and similar lewd noises. I still need to write up an exact list of requirements.
Dragon

A Brief and Tentative and Optimistic Roadmap to FarmD v1
Posted 5 years agoPulling back the curtain a teensy bit to give you guys a look at what I've got planned, and a rough guide for how long you'll have to wait for your preferred bits to get implemented or whatever.
v0.1.0 - Missionary
- You are here. The plainest of Plain Jane shenanigans, provided you know someone named Jane who is speared on a dragon cock.
v0.2.0 - Butt Stuff
- New sex position: doggy-style
- Adds anal as an option for both positions
v0.3.0 - Hand Stuff
- Play with derg's front-junk. Fondle the balls, poke the sheath, jack the off.
v0.3.0-VR - First VR build feat. Hand Stuff
- Use your spooky disembodied hands to play with dragon dick
v0.4.0 - Mouth Stuff
- Put some dragon dick in a snow leopard's mouth
v0.4.0-VR - Also Mouth Stuff

For my own sanity, I've numbered the VR builds with the corresponding non-VR version numbers at the time they are released, rather than having separate version numbers. This is also partly to indicate that those VR builds will contain the mechanics and assets that were present as of the corresponding non-VR version.
As far as a timeline goes: I have no idea. Personally, I am squarely in the camp of "do it right" rather than "do it fast", and not being beholden to patrons' pocketbooks, I'm comfortable going at my own pace. But I do work on this project every day. I legit have trouble sleeping most nights because I can't stop thinking about the piece I'm working on, or what's up next, or some future bit that I want to put in someday. Case in point, it's currently 1 AM as I'm writing these notes, even though it will be a few days at least before I post this as a journal. Well, if you're reading this, then it is a few days from now. From then? Something.
However, even with the unknowns in technical hurdles and such, we can potentially extrapolate the pace so far and get some rough estimates. If we ignore the initial "overhead" of getting the basic art assets built, and the Unity systems/plugins setup that won't need to be done again, the amount of time spent specifically on "v0.1.0" (animations, controllers, etc.) is about 3-4 weeks. We can apply some project-management tactics called "overestimate everything because it looks better to get things done early than late" and say that each module listed here will take closer to 6 weeks. So with 12 modules remaining, we're looking at 1-2 years from now before both 1.0.0 versions are released. Or maybe longer because who knows ? and I'll not have you hold me to that thanks <3
Also, this is in no way a comprehensive list of features, just the main focus for each build. I'm always open to suggestions for other content you'd like to see, though it will likely get allotted to a later version if at all. This 1.0.0 version is very much the "quit my day job and do this full time" milestone so I'd rather not push that back farther than necessary :3
And to head off some potential FAQs: additional player species will be 1.x, world expansion outside the stable will likely be 2.x, anthro/anthro and larger group stuff around that same time or later.
