Posted 7 years agoBeginning my planning for ANE 2019. Looks like the rooms at the hotel are designated party vs non party. Sooo I got a room reservation on the party floor cause I need some wild time with fur friends. XD
Room is Friday and Saturday night. Not Sunday night, so check out is noon Sunday. I believe I got a one bed King for my wallet's sake. :P

Car Stuff (shouting into the void)

Have a car, a 09 Forester. Throw out bearing went bad on a trip. Had to drive home while using the clutch as little as possible. Just spent the past three days fixing it. Aaaaand the battery died while I was working on it.
Protip: disconnect your car's battery whenever you do any intensive work on it.
If it starts, I'll have had time off work and paid ~$200 into a new clutch. Dealership wanted +1600. I am so very glad I know how to work on cars.

If any of you are going, I need a place to stay for myself and appledustings in any hotel. I've managed to be in the main hotel the past few years so I'm not going to be picky about being in one of the other hotels. Not gonna matter much anyhow given the amount of time we'll be spending in other people's rooms. :P

Boston Bombings

Yeah I'm not ok with this.
None of my friends and family were directly affected... but FUCK man, me and everyone I'm close to are on that street nearly every other day. My girlfriend and best friend were there the day before watching them set up!
I just can't absorb this from up in VT.
What I know so far at least...
3 dead
140+ wounded
three bombs, two detonated and one dud disposed by bomb squad.
BPD killed cell service on a guess that they were remote triggered.
bombs may have been planted the day before or during the race, haven't got a clear answer on that
low yield pipe bombs, definitively not weapons grade.
crowd targeted, not the runners.
Air traffic halted and heavily screened.
No current connection to JFK library fire.
My opinion, in no bearing on what may be found in truth, is that it was either an individual or group less than 5 who wanted to bring attention on the world stage. Likely a Boston/MA local but still stands to reason that they may not be from the US even. Never eliminate variables that have a sliver of possibility. Bombs were made shoddily, adding weight to local influence. If all else, this points to the person(s) responsible being caught relatively quickly. Pray the locals don't find them first, else they will never see a courtroom but six feet of soil. Boston folk look out for their own.

Posted 13 years agoOk so, one of the things that has been on my "if I win the lottery" list was getting a particular piercing. And then my girlfriend appledustings went and paid for it on a lack Friday weekend sale. She is awesome.
But, actually, this is the first piercing I've ever gotten. So it has been kind of a rollecoaster of AAAAAAHHHH and Awesome this looks so cool! It's good though, because I want to do some more body mod stuff, mainly tattoos, and this was a good way to cross the threshold.
Oh, but it isn't visible if I am clothed. Parents would kill me if they knew I got a piercing. Especially of this nature.

At most, tail and ears this year. Ideally, a skinsuit (think zentai with fur) and anamatronic muzzle, ears, tail. That's waaaaaay off in the future though.

On My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic
Posted 13 years agoOk so, watched all of season 1 and 2 via Netflix. Here's what I think:
Intro got cheesy fast, but it's thankfully short and remastered in the second season.
Characters are put together well and show proper canonical development over time. See: Rainbowdash reading, Twilight teleporting more and more often, Princess Luna updating her mannerisms, etc.
First season 'morals' seem pretty tacked-on and almost an afterthought. A few are just, well, so blunt I'm sure the actual target audience could tell something was wrong. These did improve, though, and through the second season the morality teachings are more fluid in the episodes as well as more real, ie Applejack already knowing the correct values and beating out the Flim Flam Brothers (a representation of faceless manufacturers imo) with those already in place values.
The animation and characters, well, I'm glad they used flash object manipulation to save some time and money on this so they could focus more on writing. Granted, they had some errors either by accident or otherwise in the animation, but stuff happens.
On that note, lol Derpyhooves. I'm surprised but glad they gave her some lines and a voice actor, but thankful she's only in the intro to one of the episodes and background for a few others. A little is good, too much and she's annoying. I'm looking at you, Pinkie Pie. Though, Pinkie did learn that lesson, too, so I guess never mind.
This show, like most others of it's type, was definitely written so that parents could bear watching it with their kids and to that point there are some more socially mature themes occasionally. Sometimes they mess that up, but I think they got it with this one. Would I go through and watch it all again? Maybe. Do I find a lot of it cheesy? Yes, undoubtedly. Does it have its undeniably awesome moments in or out of context? Most definitely.
Would I go around and openly admit that I watch the show in public? No.
Overall, I think it's a good show. Characters, animation, plot, and writing all score high enough for me to say "Yeah, I like this show, and I think you might too."
