What do people like/dislike in my art?
Posted 8 years agoOver time, I've just seen a massive decline in interest in what it is I make. I'm personally happy with my improvements. On a technical level, my art looks miles better than it did years ago when people were strongly interested in what it is I was making. But somehow it seems less people see it or are interested in it. It's honestly part of the reason I tend to keep my drawings to myself despite my therapist thinking its a terrible idea. In my mind, why upload something when "no one" is going to see it?
But I don't know the reasons why. I'd like to though. Is it something with my art? Is it too dull? Not interesting enough? Is it because I don't upload frequently enough? The times of day I upload? Or is it me in general? And if it is, just say what it is I do wrong because I'd like to fix it. If I'm doing something wrong, I won't know what it is if people don't tell me.
I'm not lying when I say I'd like to be a freelance artist. I'd like to make art work for me, but I can't figure out why I don't get much interest even for cheaper options like sketches or quick headshots/digital badges. If anyone knows what I can fix or whatever, I'd like any advice I can get.

Prints or Originals?

Or does it just depend on the artist?
Like I've tried to sell prints in the past and I currently still have most of those prints. Personally I don't think my work is built for prints.
But I've been doing more painting. It's time consuming and if I were to sell any of the originals, they'd be pricey for sure, but in the long run, I'm much more happy and comfortable with any traditional work I'd make. I know the option is there to make prints of traditional pieces too. I just don't know how to properly scan/photograph things so that's possible. Plus I don't think paintings on wood would make for good prints...
Or does it just depend on the artist?

Work has not been giving me to many hours lately so I definitely need to get back on doing some commission work now that I have a bit more time. And with MFF right around the corner (in...3 months), these headshots can be easily made into badges if you'd like your name added on them as well!
So I don't overwhelm myself, I'll start with 5 slots. I've been trying to get into the habit of recording or streaming whatever it is I draw since so if you'd like a time lapse recording of your piece, that can be arranged!
Currently I only accept paypal for payment. My paypal is ashhorsea[at]sbcglobal.net

OBS help needed!
Posted 9 years agoSo what do you do when that program just craps out on you?
Like I was in the middle of streaming and was told that the stream just sorta stopped. I didn't stop it and OBS didn't say it was stopped, but on Picarto it just said that the stream was offline. So I try to fix pretty much everything and it's still saying that my stream won't connect.
I'm pretty sure it's not an issue with Picarto since other people's streams are working just fine.
But it started out working perfectly fine and then just stopped...

I've still got a ways to go before I make a major dent in this bill. Between the root canal and the cap I'll need to have but on my tooth soon...it's a rough bill. I'll leave it at that for now.
Also, I have a bit left to cover with my therapist...The added cost of that is causing me more stress than I'd care for. Therapy is supposed to be helping with stress, but...that's kinda hard when it's partially causing the stress. No matter...it really is helpful for me to talk through a lot of my issues so I do need to stick with it.

Emergency Commissions (Please Read)!
Posted 9 years agoSo I posted a submission about it yesterday, but long story short, got hit with an unexpected cost due to my dental insurance running out so I'm opening a few commission slots.
I'm trying to limit these to single character commissions on the basis that I can draw a single character quicker, but we can work something out for a couple image.
(I'm not doing any sort of background work though for these slots.)

I gotta say I love how this site operates. Particularly that I don't have to create two separate accounts. Rather I can switch between two "characters" and they both operate as separate accounts. Just one is the default, but otherwise it operates like a secondary account. Like I can comment under it, favorite art under it and everything. My only thing I'm confused about is what the whole "promote" thing is. Like adding art to favorites is one thing and then promoting it is another but I don't know what "promote" means on this site.
But that's not a negative, I'mma guess it's like sharing art in a way. But no. The site looks and feels rather nice!

But I'm so determined to commission someone for a fursuit now.
Yes I'm well aware I can make my own fursuit. And yes I'm well aware I have my Zorua suit which is a perfectly fine fursuit.
I still would like to commission a few people for a suit and I think I'mma start with Puppy Conan because I've been meaning to make that into a suit for about 3-4 years now.
But yeah...when I get home I'mma get back on finishing the commission work I have and work on writing up a detailed ToS and updated price list.

Yo art peeps, I have some questions...
Posted 10 years agoSo it’s basically no secret that I have terrible art block, terrible self esteem when it comes to my art, and my ability to just draw has been severely lessened over time.
It’s not that I don’t have have ideas for things to draw. I have plenty. I just have a lot of hesitation when it comes to anything. I tend to think everything I make isn’t good or that no one wants to see it. I don’t really see much of a point in drawing if it’s just for myself because at this point in life, I’m trying to pursue art as a career. So it makes no sense in my mind to just “keep at it” if I’m just doing it for myself. Nor does it make sense to just draw for myself. I dunno…people say it’s a good thing, but it really doesn’t make sense to me.
However, I would feel awful if I couldn’t draw. I don’t really know what else to do with my time. I might not be that good at art, but I’m certainly not good at anything else.
But I’m hesitant to draw anything, hesitant to share what I draw, I think all my ideas are idiotic and that people will laugh at them or insult them, or that people don’t actually like seeing my work. They just say it’s good in an attempt to make me feel better. Drawing is super frustrating and people either keep telling me to keep at it or that I’m good but I don’t think this is just standard “art block”. Like it’s a feeling that’s been steadily getting worse since high school and college exacerbated it quite a bit.
Like I want to draw weird comics and animate stuff and just create a bunch of these unnecessary pictures that I have in my head, but at the same time all I can really think about is how no one really wants to see them and that nothing I draw looks good.
I know people just say finish work no matter what, but I hate making bad work. Even if someone else says it’s not bad, if it looks bad to me, it’s bad. I have plenty of sketches sitting around unfinished because I just can’t bring myself to finish them.
Seriously though how do people actually give themselves the permission to make “bad art”? I have yet to figure out that secret…
Also is what I’m describing even art block? I’m pretty sure it’s probably not…
Is it even right for me to keep pursuing art as a career when I feel so awful about it?
It’s not that I don’t have have ideas for things to draw. I have plenty. I just have a lot of hesitation when it comes to anything. I tend to think everything I make isn’t good or that no one wants to see it. I don’t really see much of a point in drawing if it’s just for myself because at this point in life, I’m trying to pursue art as a career. So it makes no sense in my mind to just “keep at it” if I’m just doing it for myself. Nor does it make sense to just draw for myself. I dunno…people say it’s a good thing, but it really doesn’t make sense to me.
However, I would feel awful if I couldn’t draw. I don’t really know what else to do with my time. I might not be that good at art, but I’m certainly not good at anything else.
But I’m hesitant to draw anything, hesitant to share what I draw, I think all my ideas are idiotic and that people will laugh at them or insult them, or that people don’t actually like seeing my work. They just say it’s good in an attempt to make me feel better. Drawing is super frustrating and people either keep telling me to keep at it or that I’m good but I don’t think this is just standard “art block”. Like it’s a feeling that’s been steadily getting worse since high school and college exacerbated it quite a bit.

Bad news is it's my mom.
Thanks continuing racism and black shootings in America for making my parents so incredibly paranoid that their 26 year old daughter can't go to a crowded event "alone".
Which now makes this whole trip feel worse.
I dunno...who really wants to go to a convention with their parents? Especially if you know your parents don't really like or know anything about what's going on. Not to mention I don't think she really cares for my art to begin with. If she doesn't "get it" then she constantly gives me this look like it's "bad" or something.
(In which it very well maybe...it ain't like anyone else pays attention to it...unless apparently I'm drawing porn or werewolves...)
At the very least I'mma get her to watch over my table during parts of the day. And by parts of the day I mean the dance competition...literally that one time.
I swear I probably won't get killed if I go to Anthrocon...and if I did get killed...meh...*shrug* Ain't like i got anything goin' for me in life anyways... :/ The only downside of that situation is I won't be able to see how Detective Conan ends which is like the only thing left I actually care about sooo...eh?
But let's be honest...I would be fine...I can go on one trip by myself.

I've got a dealer's table so easiest way to find me most of the time is just going in the dealers den. Otherwise I'm most likely gonna be in my hotel room the rest of the time and gonna be mostly anti-social. 'Tis how I tend to be at fur cons.
Or I'll be at that Ben and Jerry's (granted it's still there...I'm pretty sure it is...)...I just really like ice cream...

Make back like 1/7 of what I spend for this entire trip (considering I have no one to split even hotel costs with, this is an amazingly costly trip)...which isn't gonna happen so I have no goals for the weekend other than to be glad I don't have to work closing shifts at work sooo...yay?

I need better friends in this fandom...

I have like one that I talk to and hang out with on a regular basis (that I'm not apparently fighting with right now)...all the other "friends" I have aren't actually friends I don't think and I'm sure the local fandom has an awful opinion of me due to one certain person spreading rumors.
It's no wonder why I tend to gravitate towards anime spaces rather than furry ones. It's near impossible to get to seriously know people here...I dunno...It's easier to make friends with other anime fans.
