Name change PSA!
General | Posted 8 years agoPSA: I’ll be changing my username on all social medias soon, but probably will purposely delay it a month or so, so that those who know me and friends can hear about it beforehand so they don’t think I disappeared or don’t know who I am and all that jazz, also to give people who don’t know time to hear about it before I make the change, to give fair warning ahead of time.
“But Somo! why a name change across all social media?”
Well, because ‘Somo Otora’ was never originally meant to personify me online, originally, it was the name given to the protagonist in a story i’m writing called “The Journey” (placeholder name until/if I find something better later on, just giving a name so i don’t have to constantly say “my story” etc, etc), so in other words, 'Somo Otora’ is not me, Somo Otora is a character I created, and I wish to finally move on from using it as the name to go by online, as I seek to create a new name for myself, that’s for me, and not based off a character I made, because if I did and kept it also as the name for my protagonist it’d give the impression it’s a self insertion, which it is not. That being said, name change , in maybe a month, I already have some ideas in mind, but i’m keeping the delay both to give others time to hear about this, and for me to take more time to consider my choices. Also said name will be for actually one character, but not a character involved in my story, more so a persona character, one to represent me, sorta like a mascot in a way. I’m sure you’ve all seen the art I did, but this is the most recent full-detail-and-colored piece (as of 3/22/18) of said persona character which is suppose to be me, whom will have the same name as the new name i choose

I will too, I will too, however, it’s not gone completely, but just now returned to the character it was intended for from the beginning. Hopefully though, the new name i choose, whatever it may be, people will come to like it just as much, with each door closed, another opens. ♡

The Last Stand for Net Neutrality
General | Posted 8 years agoWell well well, today is the last day till the vote for net neutrality, tomorrow will determine if it will get repealed or not.
But, if it gets repealed, this may be my last journal (and same for plenty of people), I wanna say, shout out to my friends who’ve supported me, and stuck by me, been through tough times together, and so on and so forth, i hope the repeal doesn’t go through and we can see eachother again.
This repeal, if it passes, I, and many others, may lose contact with a lot of close friends, let alone, may lose a chance at an art career, making an art career offline is a LOT harder, and I don’t know if I can make it, i know i have a lot better chance online, so hopefully this works out, not just for myself, but my friends, for everyone, whatever your reasons, be it contact with friends, access to a lot of information, access to art related things, your stage for setting a career for yourself online whatever it may be, etc, etc, stand strong friends, hopefully we’ll win this fight once more, but even if we lose, you better believe, Ajit Pai, and those greedy reprehensible jackasses who passed this repeal, will have law suit after lawsuit, and hell to pay. even if we lose, you better believe the people will not take this one laying down, this is something important to us, something we consider a right, something that has helped people in a plethora of ways, be it access to info for school, jobs, career, knowledge, an escape to those stuck in hard times or with abusive families, a connection to friends, something that has helped small businesses like artists flourish in which would be much harder without it, stand strong everyone, hopefully we’ll win this fight, but if we don’t, you better believe we’re not gonna take this one sitting down. The simple answer to that is, simply, school, life, responsibilities, and so on, have been getting in the way. Not only that but i’ve been taking time off to improve and refine my skill to better my art.
So that’s it in short, trying to keep up with school, and trying to refine my skill, there may be some more art soon, but i can’t promise anything, just bare with me please.Help the artist! - 1

General | Posted 9 years agoSo, uh, it’s been a while since I mentioned it, but I mentioned a while back in my first update Changing things up, I mentioned a new character I would soon be doing concept art of too, so, those few who actually read and care for these posts (lol I have practically no followers as of typing this post) but some of you may be wondering, where is this “new character” I mentioned? well to be straight-forward, he’s on hold, temporarily for designing, as I’m still redesigning and revising Somo’s design, who is my main “OC” (i hate calling it that but i don’t know what else to dub it), who is the protagonist in my series, thus they take main priority, and since their old design was poor, i’m investing most time into updating their design, as well as practice with art, in areas like hands, feet, legs, arms, bodies, anatomy in general. So yeah, due to Somo needing a fix in their design, they take main priority, that being said, this mysterious “new character” i mentioned, will have to go on hold for now.
Changing things up
General | Posted 9 years agoSo, it's been a while since i've been on here, but i forgot to mention some changes i've been considering.
First off, i'm changing Somo's clothing design a bit, their design was orginally gonna be very cloak-ish, with it stopping short slightly past the waist with the legs still visible, and long wide sleeves, that hang past the hands a bit, it would also be decorated quite a bit with intricate patterns, mostly on the body area.
But i decided to change that, for practicality and simplifying it a bit, but also making the clothing make sense, since Somo, canonically speaking in a story i'm making her in, She is a light guardian, and is asked to do a lot of missions, still figuring out all the lore and stuff, but one thing that is cannon so far, is Somo is very nomad-ish, she travels a lot for her missions, kinda like someone in the military does, so she doesn't really have a set in stone home, she kinda has more of a carriage where her belongings and stuff goes and where she sleeps in, and brings with her food and water, she also due to this will have more of a long nomad-like robe, you know? the ones that are long, usually brown, with a good, string at the neck to tighten the good, stuff like that, of course this won't be her only clothing, she might have some underneath, but when traveling that's her main clothing, still deciding what other clothing she will wear, cause of course she's not gonna wear that kind of clothing in deserts, or traversing hot places, she will of course for practicality, have to done new clothing for the times she's in hot lands, wearing that long robe would be too hot, though i'm still deciding how some of her other clothing will look.
Oh also, that collar in her current art? that's being removed, too cutsy, and somewhat kinky looking, away it goes, of course Somo is meant to be fairly cute, but i don't want her to be stupidly unrealistically cute, i want her cute to be more subtle, rather than super anime-ish where everything is so over the top it makes you want to vomit, so yeah, instead it will be replaced, with what? a crystal necklace, i think it'd also be fitting for her character given, like me she's very spiritual and believes practice of healing of the mind and body through energy from crystals, hence the crystal necklace, which will have various different crystals, all serving their own purpose, that way it looks nice, aesthetic, it makes sense, and it has practicality, where as the collar had none other than just looking cute, which i no longer have much interest in making them super cute, i need to develop their personality more than that and make them feel like a person, of course this will take time.
But bear with me, also maybe in the soon or distant future i'll start releasing my story here too, but i gotta get started on it first, haha! i'm still figuring it out though, the beginning of a story is always the hardest, especially with me since i hope to add some things that will make sense later on in the story i must place them carefully and in a way that makes sense.
Also slightly considering removing Somo's typical cat mouth "3" face, it's a bit hard to work with expression wise, and also might cause people to cringe at me, then again i shouldn't care what they think, but, it is a bit difficult to work with, i'll have to decide whether i'm willing to bear that burden or not. Still considering heavily whether or not to simplify Somo's hair drastically, change it completely, or keep it the same, though to me it is aesthetically pleasing, it just feels a bit too complex, too intricate, which makes it hard to work with, with things like gravity and wind direction blowing the hair, if i simplified it, it'd make it a little easier to work with, if i changed it completely and made it more like real hair, like my hair, it'd be a heck of a lot easier to work with, with very little complication, hmm...
Also, i will be creating more characters, due to my own interest in doing so and also because they may make a appearance in my story ((another thing i need to decide is how to introduce them in my story and for characters that join somo on her journey, spoiler spoiler, i gotta figure out a reason for them to join, and i want it to make sense, not be some stupid reason like "suddenly i have an urge to help! hurr durr' i want to have it make sense, of course this doesn't mean the original motive can't change to something of care or desire to help, but i want things to be more realistic, so in that case, their original motive must make sense.))
But let's just say one upcoming character may make an appearance soon in concept art ((cause i'm gonna experiment with multiple designs so don't take the first image released as cannon, i'll say when i've decided which will be the cannon design))

Possible change to Somo's design
General | Posted 9 years agoAs majestic as Somo's hair is now, i think i might end up changing it, don't get me wrong, i love it, but it's a bit over detailed, it looks great to me, but it just takes a bit unnecessarily long, and thinking about how i'm going to have to draw it at different angles, and how i'm gonna have to practice drawing it with gravity and in motion it's just- uhggg... i think if i simplified the hair and changed it up it'd be a lot more manageable and interchangeable, but with how it is now it's just complicated, it looks beautiful to me, but it's complicated to manage. but this is a maybe, i'm not sure yet, maybe i should just not be lazy and deal with it to get better practice, but then again as practice goes on it may still slightly change to be a bit more realistic and manageable while still keeping it detailed, does that make sense? i don't know, hmm..Possible hiatus? sorta?
General | Posted 9 years agoSorry i haven't been on or uploading that much lately guys ((if anyone really looks at this account or likes it at the moment???)), i've been busy with school and life stuff, and trying to figure life out right now.
Also taking some time off to practice and refine my art skill and practice areas i'm lacking in for future art, but yeah. I may occasionally post some of my practice doodles here in my scraps section, like when i practice hands, bodies, and poses, feet, legs, arms, and other ares i'm lacking in below the head and shoulders.
