Posted 16 years agoThis was HELLISH to judge because we had a very large handful of good entries. Ultimately, we had 5 people take the top 3 prizes.
FIRST PLACE: garnet_wing for her depiction of Alexia and the Admiral aboard what we assume to be the Xanthus.
SECOND PLACE: Two-way tie between Lindori's photograph of Alexia with the Admiral and Shine On Crazy Diamond's missive chronicling the heroic exploit of Alexia saving Stella from a great fall.
THIRD PLACE: Two-way tie between Blue-owl's pop-art styling of the couple in action and Sandraugiga's depiction of Alex and Zoe having a fine evening.
The runners-up and honorable mentions will be stated in-thread and given their own prizes, but a sincere congratulations to the winners and a grand thank you to all the entrants who have taken their time to make art for our couple, the great and glorious Alexander and Zoetrope Kite!

i'm going to quote a facebook note i wrote and a comment i made on another journal.
If you don't care to copy/paste, the short of it is that a Brazilian man raped his 9-year-old stepdaughter. The mother, probably trying to go with health and safety-of-her-daughter reasons, gets the girl an abortion. And now the mother and doctor who administered the abortion have been excommunicated from the Catholic Church just because of something that was more than likely a necessary evil.
What's worse is that the STEPFATHER was not excommunicated for his heinous crime of rape. How is rape less heinous than the act of abortion?
With Pope Benedict XVI allowing a bishop who denies the Holocaust back into the Church and continuing the ignorant view that gender roles can't change, i'm starting to see myself lapsing from my RELIGION, not my faith. i still believe everything in the Nicene Creed; i still believe in many things that make a Catholic a Catholic. But with the crap that's been going on, i don't see it as sacrilege to ask my religious leaders to stop being such dumbasses.
For god's sakes, she's 9 years old. No child that age is capable of healthily bearing and birthing a child. If i hear any more of this bullshit, i'm officially renouncing my religion.
In fact, i'll go so far as to say this:
Religion does not require faith.
Faith does not require religion.
People think they have to defend the integrity of their faith these days, when really all they're doing is trying to hold up religion. They're doing the same thing with marriage - defending the image instead of the purpose.
It's no wonder people are leaving organized religion. They wised up! The only reasons i can hold onto Catholicism are the numerous number of rites and the music that has been historically produced for the liturgies and prayers. i'm a member of the Knights of Columbus and i can't publicly voice my dissent anywhere but Facebook because of people who think President Obama (while i agree not the BEST president) is the fucking ANTICHRIST!! It's more like "he's a n***** president," seeing as i'm stuck in south Texas. The leaders we see in headlines aren't the only ignorant jerks in religion.
And finally - yes, i'm anti-abortion. However, i see it as a necessary act when the mother is nowhere near capable of bearing a child or if the child doesn't have a chance at surviving past day 1 (and that's more like "his brain only developed in the pain-sensing region" kind of issue). That and only OB-GYNs would be allowed to prescribe abortions because that kind of procedure is extremely suspect to infection problems.

1) Visually fantastic, but
2) Alan Moore was right to pull his name from the project.
3) You're better off reading the comic
4) because THE MOVIE SUCKED.
5) Because it decided to milk the franchise by making The Black Freighter a separate DVD, the movie was in essence only 45% faithful to the actual story.
Don't waste your money on the movie and popcorn. Get the comic off of Amazon or an online dealer. Better value.

Posted 17 years agoi was (rightfully?) banned for the 7th or 8th time from Gaia Online. It hurt because i had a LOT of stuff on there ... but when i called my Mistress to tell her, i was (and still am) shocked that i was handling it more calmly than normal.
It was then i realized that Gaia Online was being used as an outlet for my anger issues. i don't flame people in real life, but i let my anger go unchecked when i go on the internet. It's like i am attracted to drama.
And i put in ridiculous amounts of money into Gaia. Didn't i make it a goal to save for plane tickets to go to California next January? i did. Does spending my money on Gaia HELP save that money? No, it doesn't.
i'm addicted to pixels and making pixels look nice. What the hell have i become?
It's embarrassing, really. It took 4 years to realize that i wasted so much money. This is going to be a difficult addiction to kick. i may or may not need support, as i know Mistress is still my Mistress, no matter what. But if you know me well, pray that i can fight this.
EDIT - as a note to Gaian "friends" of mine who read this, listen well:
Mistress needed to take a break to focus on her own life. Her daughter has been doing a great job running the charity on Gaia. Mistress has put a lot of work into this charity, and it's you guys who keep it a nice charity. If she wants to take a break from Gaia, that is her decision to make. i feel at fault for almost dragging her back in after what happened a month ago (as of this post), so she may have stayed because of my bringing her back in. However, she CARES for you guys and wants to remain friends.
It's her decision that she wants to stay off Gaia for however she feels necessary. It's her decision if she quits Gaia.
i didn't decide that for her. i only admitted i had a problem that needed to be fixed, and that problem was Gaia. So please DO NOT cause drama just because you don't quite understand. You can't understand someone's actions fully unless you are that person, and from what i hear, "Being John Malkovich" was fiction.
i have an addiction i must confront and deal with, along with anger issues. She has her own situations to deal with, and i'd appreciate it if you lot just went on with your lives and didn't act like this was the end of the world!

Posted 17 years agoNo. Go fuck yourself. The artist i called out as a plagiarist - who absolutely FAILED to credit the incest hentai manga they stole their format from - deserves to be called such. As an artist, one has the duty to credit their source if they even make a furry version of that story (The Game, by Rate). It is shameful to not properly source, either in writing or in art.

Gaia Interactive accused of being Satanist?
Posted 18 years agoShiiiit. i thought i heard some stupid things before, but this is just fucking ridiculous.
Gaia Interactive, the parent company of Gaiaonline.com and its forums, released their Monthly Collectible yesterday afternoon - the Grunny, the Gothic Veil and the Vampire Hunter Gear (default pose is a hat).
i looked at the pose and spoke with another person smart in occultist studies who said "there just may be a problem."
One of the poses is a pentagram.
Being Catholic, i knew better and did some research. Posted a thread in the general forum about how the pentagram was used by all sorts of religions and groups, and that this particular usage was purely for horror movie refereneces.

Granted, a crucifix is also used, but keep in mind i'm also a Castlevania fan who owns Aria AND Dawn of Sorrow. In the latter, you draw pentacles. Julius throws a cruciform boomerang and blasts out his aura in a cross form. Don't fucking tell me that the cross isn't being used for magical purposes.
But the backlash was EMBARRASSING. There was this one kid who said he was a Catholic but said in the same breath "I'm Catholic, not Christian." Dude ... i wanted to beat this kid over the head with a stack of rosaries blessed by the late John Paul II. i know Wiccans who were sorely embarrassed by people OF THEIR OWN RELIGION who found this offensive because it's not their precious gold pentagram. And the fact that some idiots thought that the upside form was an insult to Wicca.

From the viewpoint of the avatar, the pentagram is in fact in "correct" form, even though one Wiccan friend of mine said both forms were perfectly fine and that some idiots were confusing the Gaian version of the pentagram with the Sigil of Baphomet.
