No Subject
Posted 5 years agoMediation with eviction of the tenant issuesdidn't work. Within 30 min of that disaster I got the news that Grandpa died. This happened yesterday. I'm lost and out of my mind.

I have been silent for a long while and I wanted to give you guys an update since my hand has allowed it and things have calmed down enough that I can get to a PC.
The Grandfather Update
Last update, 8 months ago, I had mentioned that the doctor’s were going to place my husband’s grandfather on Hospice. Turned out they didn’t…. Until about September. Things are not great. We never know if the next call or text is “it” and thus rush out to his place. My Mother in law has been placed as his primary care giver and signed a contract with Hospice that means that there will always be someone with him. Due to the fact that her work wouldn’t place her on work-leave she lost her job and insurance. Her migraines are killing her on top of the emotional abuse that her dying father puts her through. My husband and I have tried to give her money here and there but we are by no means wealthy. We also try to hang out with her as she’s lonely and needs a sane person to talk to and vent out her hurt and frustrations. This is a painful and uncertain period and all I can do is just keep going.
Helping my mother
My mother has been trying to sell her home but it’s not going great.. Her realtor convinced her to list it super high. In the following months kept pressuring my mother to lower the price more and more, even below the threshold my mother needs to sell the house to pay off all her debts. We’ve been super busy helping her with repairs, including her car. She’s spent a lot of money to fix up and upgrade everything. This is on top of sending what she had left to family overseas since her brother had gotten a stroke and was unable to look after grandma. On top of that my mother has a sticky tenant situation that we may need to go through the eviction process with. My husband has been taking care of that with my mom but he’s been working on it virtually every night after work and all day on his days off. Between my mom and his mom’s needs we’re a bit fatigued but not defeated.
Personal Health
I have been a lot better, in a way. I was given anti-depressants and while I still feel like a broken human being I still feel like I can continue on. My hand has good days and bad days. I’ve had some really bad aches though that have kept me bed-ridden here and there. The new medication they gave me is the next strongest that they can give me before moving onto pain killers. I am doing my best to avoid that but with the stress of everything else, getting super sick AND needing to deal with those stresses with pain, it’s daunting. I am happy that they upped the dosage of my nerve numbing medication though as that has helped a lot.
Moving
On top of everything else…. My land lady has asked us to move by January 15. We were given about 2 months notice at least which helped since it’s just me packing. My husband works and has to do other things for my mother so I do my best. We’re moving into the home my mother is having tenant issues though so I really hope things work out peacefully and quickly. There had been a time when we had to look for other places and holy cow it’s expensive. About $1800 for a 2 bedroom place. Studios were about $1300. We’re lucky that my mother will charge us very very little. Fingers crossed this all works out.
What does all this mean? I am hoping that once the move is made things will settle. I will have more space so I can work on art in a nice environment instead of a cramped converted closet space. I’ll be catching up on my Patreon commissions and then maybe open a comm slot or do an auction. Or adopt! :D Please let me know what sort of art you would like to see from me? ; ; It would really cheer me to feel wanted for art as opposed to…. All the other things going on. Wanted for something fun and light-hearted.

Need help picking a laptop

Need help picking out a future laptop so that I can still work due to family situation.
I may need to spend my days helping out my ailing grandfather-in-law so I need a portable way of working on my commissions. I can work on traditional mediums but those wear down my hand stamina more.
Please help me out with affordable suggestions? I need it to run art software like Clip Studio, Sai, and Photoshop cs5. Right now I don't even know if we can afford anything but my mother-in-law might have to quit work to take care of him but, her rent to him pays the mortgage. An affordable laptop that I can maybe pay off in a month or two would be ideal.

at the title says I'm doing some free art. I'm hoping to create some samples for monochromatic sketches. I plan to do one furry art piece and one humanoid art piece. The outfit and steam will be determined by me. The timing which I completed would vary as I have priorities with commissions.

Life update + Please please vote in my poll?

I hadn't wanted to share too much of my personal life because I always worry that they come off as excuses as to why I am so slow or scarce. I have maintained some communication with my clients who have paid for their comms but I do feel that I should try to maybe do more frequent updates so that everyone is in the know how. I will try to organize things in a concise manner. All of them have interconnected so I am going to try and write it all out in an order to show the cascade.
1. Grandfather-in-law has been put on hospice care.
For those who aren't familiar, this means that the doctors feel that he only has months to live so a nurse visits weekly to help him out and ensure he is comfortable. He has been moving around a lot and is active which is both good and bad. It's bad because he has fallen a lot and been found passed out BUT, since he has reverted back to being a stubborn man who is doing what he loves and wants his mood has improved drastically. This has given him more zest for life.
While I wish I have gone over more often my husband and I have visited him and my Mother-in-Law when we have the free time to help out. We are making more efforts to try and be more present with him during our free time.
2. My mother is selling her house to retire back to her birth-country and wants to help my husband and I buy a home of our own.
Part of why my husband and I have had limited free time is because we have had to divide our time between both mothers - one who is the sole caretaker of a stubborn old man and one who needs a lot of help prepping to sell a house. We have personal obligations and needs to help both of them out. My mother has been doing her best to try and pay other people to do a lot of the repairs but we still need to her her buy supplies and materials and then make the long drive to deliver them.
A lot of free time is spent researching homes, looking at property taxes, new county demands that is tied to streams and cesspool/septic tanks, and most importantly, try and get pre-qualified for a loan. We also went to house showings to look at houses that fit the requirements that everyone has.
3. Both my husband and I had gotten very sick in the middle of all the above chaos which made scheduling a nightmare.
I was out of working order for 2 weeks - spent a lot of time in the bathroom and the bed and just could not... human... My husband did his best to look after me but sick hours are few. Once I recovered I had to get our home caught back up to speed/cleanliness and then I also had to balance out the needs of both our mothers. I managed to get things settled.
I had overworked my hand right after my recovered and then my husband got sick for a week which meant I got sick again. The month of March is a bit blurry but we managed to muddle through.
4. Small update that isn't dramatic BUT, I had been in communication with print companies to get products made from my fanart piece.
I have 100 prints ready of my sexy pink haired lady on a lovely 11" x 14" size :D They just have to get shipped out to me. I have also ordered 50 badge pins, round 58mm, and they should be showing me a sample of it soon.
The reason why I did this was because in June my small little country-ass-country home island is having a comic convention in June. It is very short notice so I am trying hard to schedule it into my already busy schedule.
5. The usual hand issues and all the medical appointments and insurance headaches that go along with it.
For those who aren't aware, I have had chronic hand pains in my dominant hand. These pains have escalated for the past 4 years to the point where holding a phone would be hard - sometimes squeezing toothpaste is painful. Recent tests have culminated down to a pinched nerve in my neck AND, xrays showed that the ligament by my C7 had started to calcify during the healing process after getting damaged. This damage is more than likely from the car accident I was a passenger in about 8+ years ago. This calcification means I have arthritis in my neck which has made turning my neck difficult.
I have gone through a couple sessions with a chiropractor and a physical therapist. Between those treatments and my nerve calming medication ( Gabapentin ), I have been able to hold a stylus a lot longer than I did a year ago. I still have to be careful and keep an eye out on myself so that I don't overdo myself.
There are other small scheduling conflicts that had been dropped on my lap but my mental fortitude had held on thanks to the support of my family and friends. It also helped that my close friends hold a near weekly movie and potluck night to watch 1 movie from series we loved. We had done Lord of the Rings, then did the original Star Wars trilogy, and now we just finished Harry Potter. Being able to be out of the house with good food, great cocktails from talented friend, and watch a movie while we talk about it has been a boon on my life. I love my friends a lot and cannot thank them enough for letting me be a part of their circle.
What does this mean for Sora and Art? I have been catching up on my DnDecember project. I have 1 more piece to go before I start on the final batch. I work on painterly styled fanart here and there to break the monotony of lineart. Those fanart also double as "merchandise" for me :D I do love and try to be efficient. I do have a small waiting list of art projects from cherished friends/supporters so I am keeping myself busy by juggling it all. I plan to try and have a scheduled streaming session every week as well as an update journal to show what progress has been made professionally and personally.
Please do share with me what you'd like to see me do. If anyone has advice on things I am all ears.

I had read that Patreon is more or less increasing their cut while introducing a new "Pro" membership account. They will however honor 'grandfathered' accounts. I had planned on making a tip-jar styled account at some point but, these changes expedited my plans a bit.

Future Art & Commission poll - please help me figure out

I have opened a pole on Twitter to see what sort of projects I should aim for next. I currently have a backlog of commissions that I'm working on now that my computer is working again. since I am still heavily limited with my art time due to my chronic hand pains I do want to try and plan ahead. If there is something specific that anybody would like to see please do comment or vote on Twitter

Ych - where the high bid would be painterly sketch and the autobuy would be polished painterly
Iron artist challenge - similar to March madness. I try to complete as much art as I can within an hour to an hour and a half time. Restrictions are based off of 1 to 3 key words so I still determine the pose etc etc
"Dndecember" - basically it would be more polished line art fitting a monthly theme. One idea that I have is called single player September where all the art is based off of characters cause playing as characters from single player games. Another would be Megami May were the scene would be gods and goddesses. All characters would be redesigned into flowy Greek and Roman styles with a hint of fantasy. Like Dndecember, slots would be limited.
Regular commission - this would be where people who want reference sheets, bundles of sketches, personalized registrations can express their interest and discuss budget and scope.
Thank you so much for your time If I can figure out what my next step is it would help me out tremendously and scheduling my time so that I can be more productive and hopeful towards the future.

I'll start off with some good news. Thanks to some pay-what-you-want commissions and a generous commissioner who prepaid I was able to secure the funds needed to buy my computer part. It arrives next week. it'll be a couple days of setting it up and trying to salvage all the data from my old computer but I'll soon be able to work on the computer again. My priority will be to finish my Copic commissions and the DND commissions.
A more personal update but still (semi) good news. I finally know what is actually wrong with my hand. The nerve doctor told me that I had a nerve pinch in my neck but I was not given a x-ray of my neck. My PCP referred me to a chiropractor who did take X-rays. It turns out I have arthritis in the neck. it looks like an old injury from about eight years ago that I sustained while being a passenger in a small car collision resulted in some calcification in one of the ligaments by my c7. A nerve test done by the chiropractor did reveal some areas where I had nerve problems. These exact locations or the places that I would beg my husband to massage me at. I also have a crooked neck. Your neck is supposed to curve outward but mine curves inward like a candy cane. I'm slowly working on correcting these issues and mitigating the damage.
Another personal update one that's less pleasant though is I might have developed tinnitus. It's been close to two months but the ringing in my skull has not stopped. I have mitigated the effects by pretty much having the TV on 24/7 - something to distract me so I don't hear that sound. It sounds like a tuning fork is going inside my brain constantly and it's not all that pleasant. Some days it's not as bad , and some days it's really bad that keeps me up at night.
All of these doctor's visits and treatments are piling up. My medical expenses have more than quadrupled. Thankfully all the treatments have enabled me to use my hand a lot more. I'm really hoping to try and be more active in art to alleviate some of the financial burdens.
The cherry on top of all this is that my grandfather in law is not doing well at all. He had been in and out of the hospital and even have to get medevac to the better hospital on a different island. Ultimately after a month of being on pins and needles trying to figure out what will happen and his deteriorating state he has now been put on hospice. my mother-in-law is not wealthy. She cannot keep skipping work anymore to take care of her father's so she will be needing help to look after him. At least once a week I'll be spending a day looking after Grandpa to make sure that he is okay. He has incredibly low blood pressure and thanks to his early signs of dementia he doesn't remember that he's really sick and will stand up too quickly and overdue himself. He has been falling down a lot if he's not looked after so there is a definite need of having somebody to babysit him.
As per usual used voice to text functions to type out this journal to try and save my hand. Please pardon any wonky English and run-on sentences.
I'll start off with some good news. Thanks to some pay-what-you-want commissions and a generous commissioner who prepaid I was able to secure the funds needed to buy my computer part. It arrives next week. it'll be a couple days of setting it up and trying to salvage all the data from my old computer but I'll soon be able to work on the computer again. My priority will be to finish my Copic commissions and the DND commissions.
A more personal update but still (semi) good news. I finally know what is actually wrong with my hand. The nerve doctor told me that I had a nerve pinch in my neck but I was not given a x-ray of my neck. My PCP referred me to a chiropractor who did take X-rays. It turns out I have arthritis in the neck. it looks like an old injury from about eight years ago that I sustained while being a passenger in a small car collision resulted in some calcification in one of the ligaments by my c7. A nerve test done by the chiropractor did reveal some areas where I had nerve problems. These exact locations or the places that I would beg my husband to massage me at. I also have a crooked neck. Your neck is supposed to curve outward but mine curves inward like a candy cane. I'm slowly working on correcting these issues and mitigating the damage.
Another personal update one that's less pleasant though is I might have developed tinnitus. It's been close to two months but the ringing in my skull has not stopped. I have mitigated the effects by pretty much having the TV on 24/7 - something to distract me so I don't hear that sound. It sounds like a tuning fork is going inside my brain constantly and it's not all that pleasant. Some days it's not as bad , and some days it's really bad that keeps me up at night.
All of these doctor's visits and treatments are piling up. My medical expenses have more than quadrupled. Thankfully all the treatments have enabled me to use my hand a lot more. I'm really hoping to try and be more active in art to alleviate some of the financial burdens.
The cherry on top of all this is that my grandfather in law is not doing well at all. He had been in and out of the hospital and even have to get medevac to the better hospital on a different island. Ultimately after a month of being on pins and needles trying to figure out what will happen and his deteriorating state he has now been put on hospice. my mother-in-law is not wealthy. Since we still don't have a good stable functioning computer I still only have my copic Markers to art with. I am open for PWYW copic commissions and have my ych. The budget isn't that great but my husband went ahead and placed the order for the part I need. I hope to get it soon but there will still be some delays in getting it installed and all my data recovererd safely. I sincerely apologise for the delay in my projects.

PC Update + Future discounted Copic marker Badges

My PC is currently pronounced dead. I would need a new harddrive and a fresh install of the OS. I'm really sad about this as I already replaced my HD about/within a year ago. Instead of cloning over all the information we'll be doing things fresh this time. That said, I don't have the budget currently to tackle that so for now, I have done some bandaid fixes.
ALMOST ALL ART DATA IS SAFE!
My husband was able to pull the psds from my art folder but anything in sub-folders weren't saved. The imperative data such as DnDecember and YCH Caroler are saved!
Future plans are to complete DnDecember and Caroler as well as open some Copic Marker badges at a discounted rate*
Right now, I am using my old laptop to get art done. There is some latency lag which means art progress is very slow. DnDecember's Final Batch will be delayed further. All commissioners from this Batch will be notified and queried if they are still interested.
* It will be $25usd via Amazon Giftcards. I would sketch in blue a rough composition for the badges, interested parties claim the slot, I use lead to "ink" the composition, payment is then sent via Amazon, and then I ink and color. I can be flexible with this payment process though.

Thank you kindly for checking out this journal. First and foremost I would like to apologize for any delays in art updates in Dndecember. My computer has suffered a breakdown. Right now the data is safe. I am trying to retrieve the data onto my old laptop to see if I can at least get some work done. That's going to take a couple days to figure out if it's possible. After that I will work in earnest to try and fix the computer. my husband's computer has also died in the warranty on it had been denied. My surface pro was just sent in for warranty and I don't know when I'll get that back.
in the meantime though I do have some nice copic markers and a lot of nice paper. Would anyone be interested in a traditional medium badge? I do have a laminator and badge clips. my printer had also broken down recently so I would not be able to scan it. I would have to take a picture of it with my cell phone to upload. I can try to take a better quality with my phone with better lighting and after I dig out an old tripod.

Some of you might have seen my current ych auction it ends in 2 days and my current lack come tablet has some issues. Thankfully I do have a smaller but functioning tablet to use as a substitute so there won't be any hiccups in art progress. I am however going to dust off some of my traditional mediums such as pencil, copic markers, watercolors, acrylic, and prismacolor pencils. For the next bitter on the auction I'll provide a free drawing. Please note that the drawing is forfeit if you withdraw your bid. The nature of this drawing could be either a black and white pencil sketch, monochromatic prismacolor or copic markers. the composition who depend on the character and the design it might be a full body or a might be a bust. I hope this is a fun way to entice some new bidders!

First of all, as a lot of you know Paypal isn't necessarily furry friendly and a lot of furs have been banned from using their services if they find out they are furry related. This is because they assume that any furry related transaction is porn and they do not allow sales for pornography. Paypal usually links this to the notes attached to the transactions that say keywords like "Furry, porn, any links to FA, nudes" etc
Not only that, but now that paypal has introduced the attached shipping address to every transactions, some accounts are being banned for not "shipping items" because they do not attach a tracking number to their transactions. With every transaction there is a box you can click that says "No shipping needed" if you do not click that box it will automatically send your shipping information. Not only is this, kind of sketchy but you are giving out personal information that isn't necessary.
With all this being said, whenever you send a payment to me please make sure you click "No address needed"
and in the Note please ONLY include your username and no other information, if you choose to leave a note.

I currently use Invoices for all commissions. Paypal has made it so that I do need to "update shipping/tracking" information. I am following as much proper guidelines as I can. I just thought this journal was something that folks should be aware of. I had lamented on sharing this journal but I did see chatter on my witter feeds of furry artists getting banned and suspended. There doesn't seem to be much artists can do so it is best to err on the side of caution.
ARTISTS AND COMMISSIONERS! Please use invoices and have clear and open communication. This is the best solution to many issues.
I personally doubt Paypal is targeting Furry artists specifically but Paypal does take a strong moral stance against pornographic art. In the future, I am considering using Commis.io for Explicit commissions. There may be a slight price increased as well for explicit content in the future. I apologize for the inconvenience this may incur and ask for your kind understanding.

What is DnDecember?
My goal is something similar to March Madness where I challenge myself to do as much art as I can.
All art done will need to be a DnD or equivalent tabletop game.
If you aren't familiar with DnD but like the concept, you are more than welcome to submit your Sona/OC and select one of the basic job classes ( Mage, Rogue, Warrior)
Price is $40 per slot.
Applicants must fill out a Google Form.
I plan to do 2-3 slots a week but will start on the art late November.
Not first come first serve - I will select OCs and contact the applicant. Please be aware that I may ask for more information for clarification.

Personal Update + Maybe DnDecember?

1. Hand problem:
I established a primary care doctor who got me to an osteopath and neurologist. Was told at first that I had nerve damage in my right arm but after a nerve test it was determined that I have pinched nerves. My PCP gave me nerve pain medications which did nothing at first but, after an increase of dosage I now have a 4-6 hour window every day where I feel close to "normal." I have stretches prescribed by the neurologist and my osteopath has sent me to a medical physical therapist. I start this Friday :D
The best news from all the xrays and tests was that I don't have carpal tunnel. When I asked about arthritis or tendinitis the doctor said that wasn't it either. So yay! Just a pinched nerve.
2. Broken Wisdom Tooth:
Yesterday the oral surgeon removed all four of my wisdom teeth. Was given valium and laughing gas to "relax" but it did jack didly squat in which the surgeon said "You don't allow yourself to relax." Hahaha.....
My dentist originally said three but the oral surgeon did four. I am supping on soup, sorbets, soft fruits, mashed potatoes, and Taiwanese style silk tofu salad. The swelling is felt but the pain is a dull ache. Only had 2 sharp pain attacks that caused me to whimper like a wee baybee so I'm counting this as a win!

The concept:
Every week I take 2 slots. One that is a one hour challenge and on that is a 3-5 hour challenge.
Every character needs to be based off of a job class in DnD.
Humanoids would be welcomed of course.

If I don't feel like DnDecember would be a hit I still have another concept for December - a YCH! Like the last 2 years the theme will be based off a personal like. This year I am going for "Warm Embrace" - a couple based image that would be sweet and wholesome.

I finally met my primary care doctor recently! It took half a year of waiting for this initial meeting. My home island has a shortage of doctors so it's hard to find one available and there are long waits. I probably could have found another doctor sooner but this doctor was highly recommended by friends and I am so glad to have her as my primary care. We spent an hour talking about my hand pains, anxiety, and depression. I was given medication to take as needed for my anxiety and a nightly pill for nerve pains - was told that if the nerve pains don't work then the dosage can go up to see if it will work better. Sadly, the pill seems to just make it so that my hand feels normal for the first hour or two after I wake up. The anxiety pills seem to put me to sleep which in a way does deal with the issue XD
I am honestly impressed and thrilled with how much was done for me with this doctor because when I got my husband his primary care doctor, we waited 45 minutes to see the doctor and when we finally got to see him, we were in there for 15 minutes AND my husband's knee pains were never addressed. We were told "someone downstairs" would call and settup physical therapy appointments but they never did. I wound up just looking stretches online for my husband and helped him with it here and there. The difference in doctors is astounding! I suppose I should have seen it coming considering I was able to get my husband this doctor after a mere 1 month wait.
My doctor had sent me for x-rays, bloodworks, and a referral to an osteopath. The osteopath then referred me to a a neural doctor who will give me a nerve test. After this test I'm to get more x-rays. I have taken the first step towards the beginning of the end of my hand pains.
Mentioned in a previous journal, I had broken a chunk off one of my wisdom teeth. It took about a month to get to the oral surgeon but am now slated to have all four wisdom teeth removed at the end of the month - actually ON Halloween XD
So, I apologize for not being as productive. I have been dealing with the usual hand pains on top of doctor's visits on a near weekly basis (between dentist, dental hygienist, primary care doctor, oral surgeon, and osteopath.) As someone who has never had insurance all her life until this year, I am getting overwhelmed by all this @-@ If I can get full or at least 50% usage of my hands, I will be happy though :D
Oh! and I turned 30 not too long ago. Hate it already. Was invited by a friend to a birthday party they had settup for someone and was told that I had to bring a dish since it was pot luck style. XD They forgot that it was my birthday too. Wound up spending the day doing chores. Husband surprised me with flowers and chocolate which was what I asked for months ago. Gotta love an SO that listens and remembers <3

I was given medication to take as needed for my anxiety and a nightly pill for nerve pains - was told that if the nerve pains don't work then the dosage can go up to see if it will work better. Sadly, the pill seems to just make it so that my hand feels normal for the first hour or two after I wake up. The anxiety pills seem to put me to sleep which in a way does deal with the issue XD
I am honestly impressed and thrilled with how much was done for me with this doctor because when I got my husband his primary care doctor, we waited 45 minutes to see the doctor and when we finally got to see him, we were in there for 15 minutes AND my husband's knee pains were never addressed. We were told "someone downstairs" would call and settup physical therapy appointments but they never did. I wound up just looking stretches online for my husband and helped him with it here and there. The difference in doctors is astounding! I suppose I should have seen it coming considering I was able to get my husband this doctor after a mere 1 month wait.
My doctor had sent me for x-rays, bloodworks, and a referral to an osteopath. The osteopath then referred me to a a neural doctor who will give me a nerve test. After this test I'm to get more x-rays. I have taken the first step towards the beginning of the end of my hand pains.
Mentioned in a previous journal, I had broken a chunk off one of my wisdom teeth. It took about a month to get to the oral surgeon but am now slated to have all four wisdom teeth removed at the end of the month - actually ON Halloween XD
So, I apologize for not being as productive. I have been dealing with the usual hand pains on top of doctor's visits on a near weekly basis (between dentist, dental hygienist, primary care doctor, oral surgeon, and osteopath.) As someone who has never had insurance all her life until this year, I am getting overwhelmed by all this @-@ If I can get full or at least 50% usage of my hands, I will be happy though :D
Oh! and I turned 30 not too long ago. Hate it already. Was invited by a friend to a birthday party they had settup for someone and was told that I had to bring a dish since it was pot luck style. XD They forgot that it was my birthday too. Wound up spending the day doing chores. Husband surprised me with flowers and chocolate which was what I asked for months ago. Gotta love an SO that listens and remembers <3
TLDR
Finally got to a doctor, was referred to another doctor who then referred me to another. Got a dentist in hopes of getting a crown but now has to have 4 wisdom teeth removed by oral surgeon. Will be so hopped up on meds and laughing gas on Halloween that I'll be a damn Scarecrow victim.
