Hoping for a little help!
Posted 9 months agoWe've had a bit of a hiccup here at the house, namely, our oven is now dead-dead. I only rent, but I know that the cost is going to be a hit for my landlord/friend, so I decided to do a GoFundMe to help with the load. Share the link about, donate if you can. Thanks a lot! All of the money gained will go to the oven. :)

If people are of a mind to...
Posted 2 years agoLong story short, I got a flat that wrecked the tire and likely damaged the rim, meaning the necessary replacement of the tire and rim. I was planning ro get new rims and tires later this year, but... Shit happened, and the job happens now. The total is in excess of $1700, not counting the likely need for 4 new pressure sensors- that'll add about $250 more. I don't NEED halp, but it would be wonderful if I got some. Ihate asking for help like this, but that was a hell of a hit.
Again, this isn't a desperation situation; just a 'God, I hate having this hanging over my head' thing. Use the link below, but take out the spaces I added to block scammers.

Another recipe- pumpkin bread!
Posted 4 years agoI have no idea how this will turn out- this is my mom's old pumpkin bread recipe, probably dating from the 1940's or thereabouts. This batch seems to have needed 3 loaf pans.
Mom’s pumpkin bread recipe
Beat together 2 cups sugar and 2/3 cup oil
Add 4 beaten eggs
Add 1 can pumpkin
Add 3 ½ cups flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 ½ teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1teaspoon nutmeg
2/3 cup water
Mix well and pour into greased loaf pans, fill each about halfway.
Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 1 hour, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Bars!
Posted 5 years agoHere's an old recipe I got from my mom- Warning: THESE ARE ADDICTIVE AS HELL.
Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars
1/2 cup butter, unsalted.
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg
2 tablespoons water
1 3/4 cup white flour
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
16 ounces of chocolate chips, divided
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees, and grease a 9x12 cake pan.
Cream the butter and sugars together until well blended. Add the egg and water, and mix well. in a separate bowl (I use a tupperware bin and shake them to mix) mix the flour, salt, soda and baking powder, then stir into the butter mixture. Add 8 ounces of chocolate chips- I use a mix of dark and milk chocolate for the chips in the batter.
Once mixed together, take the dough and place it in the pan, spreading it in an even layer- I usually use a sheet of waxed paper to make things less messy. DOn't leave any of the waxed paper in the dough! Bake for 15 minutes or until the edges brown.
Let it sit for 2 minutes, then pour the remaining 8 ounces of milk chocolate chips on top, and spread after they've melted.

Moar recipes!
Posted 5 years agoOkay, here's more of my recipes. Yesterday, Used this recipe: http://www.best-ever-cookie-collect.....m-cookies.html For the M&M's, I substituted 1 cup of 60% cacao chocolate chips and 1 cup of semisweet chocolate chips. I also added 1/2 cup of crushed walnuts. They came out excellent.
Today, I used https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes.....ookies-2524886 for double chocolate-chip cookies and added a bag of Ocean Spray crasins. Also excellent, but butt-ugly.
Bake on!

Moar Recipes!
Posted 6 years agoHere is the recipe for the Red Velvet cake I made recently, plus the frosting I used on Test Cakes 2 and 3. Also, a link to the first Raspberry Scones I did. The second version of those I used the Cinnamon Scone recipe, but left out all the cinnamon. The next attempt will add white chociolate chips, as the general consensus was that they weren't quite sweet enough. :)

First Attempt Raspberry Scones: https://www.food.com/recipe/mimis-r.....-scones-215974
A note on the raspberry scones, either version- FREEZE THE DAMN BERRIES. It makes things a lot easier, and thye end up adding far less moisture to the mix!

To everyone who commented about Lady...
Posted 6 years agoI have to say, thank you to all of you. I haven't responded til now because I really wasn't ready to, because thinking about her, losing her, still hurts. But you cared to comment, or to offer support, and that matters more than anything. So, thank you again.
At this point, I'm not as torn up as I was way back when with Luna. I knew it was coming with Lady, and to some extent I was ready. But not completely. Never completely. I'm okay now, I think. and she's at rest.

Posted 7 years agoHere are a few, mostly the stuff I've been fooling with recently. This is a LONG post, with a lot of links- hopefully they work!
Chocolate cake
https://thestayathomechef.com/the-m.....hocolate-cake/ (I used fresh-made coffee, cooled but still warm, instead of the warm water)
Chocolate frosting (Original)
https://www.hersheys.com/kitchens/e.....-frosting.html (VERY chocolate, very good, but much stiffer than the recipe below; I’m not sure which I prefer!)
Chocolate Frosting (Buttercream)
https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/7.....eese-frosting/ (One problem- this makes a GODAWFULLY HUGE amount of frosting!
Strawberry cake
https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/6.....-from-scratch/
Strawberry Frosting
https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/2.....d=cardslot%201
White Cake
https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes.....recipe-1907345 (this one had weirdly thick batter, and while people liked it, I wasn’t totally satisfied with it. I’ll probably try again with another recipe.)
Caramel Rolls
(I use the two bread recipes below as the basis; after the first rise, flatten the dough and layer down brown sugar and cinnamon, then roll it up. In the pan put a TON of butter and brown sugar (and the nuts if you use any- I use walnuts or pecans), and cut the rolled dough into 12 rolls. Put into the pan, do a second 1-hour rise and bake according to the bread recipes… But WATCH. When they look done, thety likely are!)
Bread

Egg Bread
https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes.....made-egg-bread (I think this works better than the white bread recipe for the caramel rolls) https://www.inspiredtaste.net/24412.....ownies-recipe/
Lemon Merangue Pie
https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/1.....tType%3Drecipe (I used the graham cracker recipe below for the crust, and it was awesome- the bottom was too thick, but that was MY fault!)
Graham Crackers
https://www.kingarthurflour.com/rec.....rackers-recipe
Apple Pie
https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/apple-pie (The filling was good, I swapped cloves for the ginger. This does NOT have a crust recipe. I recommend the recipes that require chilling the dough- the one I used, which was a ‘quick’ recipe that didn’t require that, didn’t come out all that good.)
Shortbread
https://www.thespruceeats.com/class.....recipe-3052187 (I’m going to make these again- I want to try flavorings!)
Brownies
https://www.inspiredtaste.net/24412.....ownies-recipe/ (I was not happy with the flavor- they seemed REALLY salty to me. I’ll either try this one again, or find a different version.)

SIGNAL BOOST, Help if you can!
Posted 8 years agoAttention everyone!
Posted 8 years agoOkay. Not that I post a lot of journals anywhere, I've finally made the jump and left Livejournal for Dreamwidth. I am RealSorien there, and the url is https://realsorien.dreamwidth.org/ . If you followed me on LJ, I'm no longer there, and won't be going back. Their anti-LGBT policies were the last straw for me, and honestly, I'm letting everyone I know who is still on LJ to get the fark out. I know a lot of my watchers here are on LJ, so please follow me on Dreamwidth if you wanna see my rare updates. :)

Okay, I have to say something...
Posted 9 years agoI like art, I really do. I prefer original art, which is why I tend to get stuff of my own creations commissioned. However, I do understand the desire for people to get fan art of media characters, even just fan art of 'famous' characters within the fandom.
However... I don't understand the trend I've been seeing recently, namely art of horrible things (crippling injuries, amputations, etc) happening to Zootopia's Judy Hopp.
What the hell? I've never understood gore afficianados to start with, but why would anyone want to do art of fanfics of things like this? It goes against the theme and tone of the film and character. And PLEASE do not use the 'it's realistic' argument.
It isn't. She's a cartoon character. What's more, she's NOT YOURS. Maiming someone else's creation is NOT in the 'spirit' of fandom.
I guess I'll never understand it.
I've seen similar treatments of other characters, but for some reason this bothers me more. Maybe it's because she's a character built around the concept of hope and the ability ot always perservere; I don't know. But geez.
Go ahead and fuck up your own characters. Create their stories, maim them or heal them or condemn or redeem as you will. Don't do it to the work of others. I'm not saying don't do fanfic or fan art... Just... Stop going against what the character IS and MEANS.
I'll stop now. I'm probably at least a bit in the wrong here, but geez.
