Gaza Strip and Israel at it again, invasion imminent
General | Posted 13 years agohttp://www.ctvnews.ca/mobile/world/.....fire-1.1040835
Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip fired a rocket at Jerusalem Friday, setting off air raid sirens and opening a new front in three days of fighting that threatens to soon spill over into a ground war.
Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said the rocket landed in an open area near Gush Ezion, a collection of Jewish settlements in the West Bank southeast of the city.
Hamas officials said the rocket was a homemade "M-75" rocket, a weapon that has never been fired before. Abu Obeida, spokesman for the Hamas militant wing, confirmed rocket was aimed at Jerusalem.
"We are sending a short and simple message: There is no security for any Zionist on any single inch of Palestine and we plan more surprises," he said.
...
After days of battering militant targets with airstrikes, Israeli troops, tanks and armored personnel carriers have now massed along the border near the Palestinian territory. As well, the Israeli government has approved the mobilization of up to 30,000 reservists for a possible invasion, signaling that a ground invasion could be imminent.
Michael Bell, a former ambassador to Egypt, Jordan, Israel and the Palestinian territories, says a ground strike would allow Israel to root out the weapons storage and manufacturing facilities in Gaza. It would also give a chance to go after the military leadership of Hamas.
But he says it could also be quite deadly.
“Gaza is one of the most densely populated places on Earth. And these missile facilities are located in dense urban centres,” he said from Ottawa. “So in order to get at them, one has to expect to incur certain civilian casualties.
“I think that’s a tragic consequence of what might happen, but I think it’s inevitable. No Israeli government could survive declining to act on what they see as provocation. It would be unacceptable.”
With reports from The Associated Press
I read elsewhere that now 75,000 have been called up.
Both halves of the article point out how utterly shit the leadership of both sides are.

The Sovy Special
General | Posted 13 years agoThis is what I usually ask for when I commission artists.
"The Sovy Special"
Two character commission. First character is Sovy, second character is up to the artist. The pose, scene, accessories, etc are up to the artist. Rating can be from general to adult.

Hey, artists, want commissions?
General | Posted 13 years agoI'm looking for artists to commission. If you want some work, or know someone who would appreciate the business, drop me a comment here or a note. :)
And back in Edmonton
General | Posted 13 years agoWill only be here until Sunday morning though. For the last three months my work schedule has been 20 to 24 days of work and 4 days off so that is why I haven't been very active lately.
By September/October my work schedule should slow down. I might even be able to put out some actual artwork for a change!
Also commissioned a whole load of artists over the last couple of months. I fave almost all of my commissions but have a heavy backlog of art to upload to this account. Some of it is kind of extreme so I might make a separate adult orientated account for that stuff.
Anyways, my monthly journal. B)

What do people want to see more of in my future commissions?
General | Posted 13 years agoList thoughts down below. Or note me if you feel shy. :)
I usually get two character commissions, one character being myself/Sovy/avatar guy and the other being whoever the artist wants it to be. Theme, pose, scene, etc are also up the artist, where the rating can be anywhere between general to adult. But sometimes I get asked to be more specific because all of that freedom can be paralyzing. So I turn to the internet and ask what ya'll want to see more of, or if you want any specific ideas, characters, themes or ratings you want to see.

Will be trying to upload my backlog of commissions
General | Posted 13 years agoI'll be uploading my backlog of commission pictures.
If anybody reading this has done art for me and would like to see their picture up, guaranteed, drop me a comment or note; I may have lost some art over the months or forgot about the picture.

Do thumbnails work for pictures anymore?
General | Posted 13 years ago...Or have they been relegated to just the user's frontpage like some vestigial code? Kind of sucks if that is the case. I know myself and a lot of people used thumbnails to warn or inform watchers what is on the picture without them having to actually see it.
Alberta elections, the Wildrose Party and dynasties
General | Posted 13 years agoThis journal is probably not very relevent to most people who watch me but it does have a few interesting facts about the history of Alberta.
http://calgary.ctv.ca/servlet/an/lo.....garyHome#ableg
Right now, a new poll shows 43 per cent of decided voters would vote Wildrose if the election was held tomorrow, with 30 per cent choosing the PC party.
The NDP is a distant third at 12 per cent and the Liberals have 11 per cent.
One of the peculiar things about Alberta is that we do not have elections, or even eras. We have dynasties. The first dynasty in Alberta was the Social Credit party, which ran the province from 1935 to 1971 in consecutive majorities. They controlled the province for 36 years. Eventually they were displaced by the Progressive Conservative party, who have run consecutive majorities from 1971 to now, 41 years in a row. You normally only see this kind of thing in de facto dictatorships that manage to 'win' every election they have. But here it is, two dynasties lasting close to 80 years.
But it looks like that old guard will be changing hands to a new party for this election with how the polls are rolling and the Wildrose Party gaining traction amongst the constituents. I'd imagine the cycle will repeat and we will end up with forty years of the Wildrose before some upstart party from the fringe rises up and displaces them in the year 2053.

Canada getting rid of the penny
General | Posted 13 years agohttp://www.ctv.ca/CTVNews/TopStorie.....ennies-120329/
OTTAWA — It's the end of the line for Canada's humble penny.
The government has decided our lowest denomination coin is more trouble than it's worth, so the Royal Canadian Mint will stop distributing the penny this fall.
"It's a currency without currency," Finance Minister Jim Flaherty said Thursday.
In his budget speech, he said the only surprise is that the penny survived for so long.
"Pennies take up too much space on our dressers at home. They take up far too much time for small businesses trying to grow and create jobs," he said in prepared remarks.
"It costs taxpayers a penny-and-a-half every time we make one. We will, therefore, stop making them."
Cash transactions will soon be rounded to the nearest five-cent increment. So if a coffee costs $1.27, it will be rounded down to $1.25. If it's $1.28, the final cost will be bumped up to $1.30.
Round down: cash transactions that end in one, two, six or seven cents.
Round up: Cash transactions that end in three, four, eight or nine cents.
All cash transactions will be rounded on the final bill of sale, after taxes have been added. But transactions involving debit or credit cards, or cheques, will still be done to the cent.
So if you pay for that $1.27 coffee with a debit card, it won't be rounded to the nearest nickel.
Unless you want to hang on to your pennies as collector items, the government says Canadians can continue to use them indefinitely. If you want to return them, you're advised to roll up the coins before redeeming them at a financial institution.
Each penny costs 1.6 cents to produce, for a total of about $11 million per year. The penny's worth has also been steadily eroded by inflation -- it has retained one twentieth of its original value.
The government anticipates that cutting the penny could lead to fundraising drives where charity groups focus on Canadians trying to dump the often-maligned coin, and said it will collaborate with those groups.
Flaherty encouraged everyone to give their pennies to those in need.
"Free your pennies from the prisons of home, and those jars they're in, and give them to charity," Flaherty said.
The Conservatives say countries like Australia that cut their lowest coin did not see price inflation.
Countries that have or plan to eliminate their own version of the penny also include Britain, Norway and Switzerland.
Canada is also reducing the cost of manufacturing its other coins, by switching from metal alloys to plated steel cores. One- and two-dollar coins are the last to have their metal composition changed.
...
This is one of the better ideas in Canada's 2012 budget. I'm surprised it hasn't been done sooner when the penny started to cost more money to produce than what it was worth.

Also Tali's face next to, well... http://i.imgur.com/VdoLF.jpg
Tali face is sourced and credited at least.
EDIT:
Also finished Mass Effect 3. The endings were bullshit and I am wondering why the writers decided to veer off where they did instead of staying the course with the Dark Matter plot they were building up through ME1 and ME2. I mean, for a game called Mass Effect and how it permeates the game not a whole lot goes into delving into it through the in-game narrative.

So I hear Ron Paul is going to win Iowa
General | Posted 14 years agoApparently he is the anti-christ or something. Either way I am very much entertained.
From Cagle
Congressman Paul is extremely dangerous and his candidacy for president should not be taken lightly. He cannot be allowed to gain momentum in Iowa, either within the Republican field or in preparation for a third-party general election run. Our country’s future literally hangs in the balance.
From CNN
The back story of the newsletters shows a man who, sufficiently saturated in racism and extremism himself, was ready to exploit the even greater racism and extremism of others for financial gain. Ron Paul is the Max Bialystock of monetary cranks -- and this latest presidential campaign represents the summit of his bunco artist career, his very own "Springtime for Hitler."
From Fox News
Nope, Ron Paul will not win. He has 0% chance of winning. No winners here. Just a loser. Yup. Infact Ron Paul does not even exist, like Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny. He is a figment of our collective imaginations, so lets all just pretend he doesn't exist and choose to go with our chosen saviour we have been backing from the beginning,Mitt Romney Newt Gingrich Herman Cain Mitt Romney Michele Bachmann Eurasia Newt GingrichMitt Romney!
