Hurricane Update
General | Posted 8 years agoSo as many people know, Texas is getting pounded by Hurricane Harvey.
Actually, technically it's decreased to a Tropical Storm now - It was a category 4 when it hit. While we weren't in the direct path, we're on what they call the "dirty side" of the storm.
All is well in our household for now. This is still just the beginning of it. We are expected to get rain through Wednesday/Thursday (I've heard both so I'm not entirely sure)
There have been at least 3 tornadoes that have touched down in my area.
Luckily we have not been affected by them. It's been pouring for hours at a time today. Basically the storm is stuck over the coast of Texas due to other pressure systems keeping it in place. This is bad news for Houston as it floods easily. There are already lots of road closures (tons of our freeway ramps go under 7+ feet of water).
The creek by our house is flowing over the bridge... there's just a LOT of water. Lots of wind too.
Everything is good for now though!
We are hunkered down and well equipped/prepared.
My parents did a good job in picking this house 30 some odd years ago, we are on the highest point of this neighborhood so this side of the street doesn't flood. The other side isn't so lucky.

Like I should apologize for the things I enjoy.
Like I should apologize for not being like everyone else.
I'm not that smart. I don't feel pretty majority of the time. (That's the least of my concerns)
I'm not always happy. I just tend to post the times when I am to make it seem that way.
My goals and aspirations seem like they have no significance to others like they do to me and I should apologize for that too.
Things that mean the world to me have little or no significance to others, I should be sorry for that too.
I'm sorry I can't help you understand me more. I'm starting to wonder if I even understand myself...
I care way too much about what other people think and it makes me feel guilty about being me.
★An update on the previous situation

So last night I broke my house.
Okay not really but it all happened when I went to bed so I blame myself for an exploding breaker box.
When I was going to bed I unplugged and turned everything off in the living room and went to my room at like 1:15 this morning. I turned on my light/fan and it started flickering and buzzing so I turned it off via the wall switch just figuring it was the bulb about to go out. But when I tried to turn on just the fan it wouldn't come on. I plugged my computer into my wall and my phone to the power cord I have- nothing started charging. I called my mom who was in her room in the back and told her "Nothing's working in my room" So Dad got dressed and went to check the breaker box.
Apparently it smells bad (as in burning smells) and when he tries to turn it back on it arcs and sparks ⚡️ not good things.
Turns out over half the house is out of power including the A/C which is a death wish in the summer of Texas. 🔥☀️🌵 It's 91 degrees out today which definitely isn't the hottest it will be but it's still pretty hot considering humidity. 💦
So the majority of the house is without power and no A/C
Not sure if the internet/cable was fixed because they were powered on but not connecting? There's like a select few outlets that work in the kitchen/living room and then my parents' room has power, and the fridge has power. But that's it. The rest of the living room, the middle/guest room, and my room all are without power.
Received the text from my dad that it most likely won't be fixed until sometime tomorrow.
Looks like I'll be breaking out the inflatable pool earlier than expected lol
f u n.
this is not something we can really afford right now. mehhhh.
just wanted to give y'all a heads up, I was planning on doing a stream today if the power and internet was back on but I think I'm gonna have to hold off on that. I'll post something if I do though!

So it seems like everything is happening all at once and when the family can't afford it.
My dad has been out of a job since November due to budget cuts. He's got an interview on Friday for one that he's pretty interested in so thoughts, good vibes, prayers would be super appreciated for him to have a great interview.
Yesterday morning the breaker box was completely replaced, new breakers and all.

(for reference all of those prongs are supposed to be the same. This breaker literally smelled like a house fire normally does. comforting.)
Any electrician that we spoke to or came over to look at things would come back with "WOAH that's OLD" these are 30+ years old. So new breaker box with all new stuff.
WELL.
I don't know if it was a result to having full power now, but the A/C blew up... literally.
We didn't hear anything but the compressor apparently exploded. So much so that the guy that came over to look at it asked if LIGHTNING HAD HIT THE HOUSE.
Which -no we haven't had any big storms lately. So while the power was out we were running one window unit and a couple of box fans through the house which was definitely better than nothing. Now that we have power we are doing the same but it's much easier running them through wall plugs and not the loud obnoxious generator.
So we are still without A/C I believe that's being replaced tomorrow. (possibly today I'm not sure if that happened though- haven't heard anything from my dad)
I'm thinking the outage also fried our microwave which was on its last leg. It has power but none of the buttons work. And the little mini fridge that I had in college is no longer cooling (which that one isn't a huge deal it just had some extra drinks and stuff in it). SO we need a new microwave on top of the new power box and A/C.
SO. All of that happened. And my dumb cat (who I love with every ounce of my being even though he can be a real asshole) decided to stick his head in a cup of water over night and it fell over and dumped on my dad's laptop. It will not turn on now. He's got a lot of stuff on there that I'm really really hoping they can recover. But I'm hoping I might be able to dig into my savings and maybe get him a new one for Father's Day/ his Birthday which is a few days before mine in July. He's been needing a new one for a while, his is just slow and constantly gives him problems at this point.
So overall some good thoughts/vibes/ prayers if you're into that would be greatly appreciated for this family of mine haha.
Everything is going crazy all at the same time. Let's hope this is the last of it for a long while.

Howdy! I'm Grizz or Cales- whichever works for you! I'm a 25 year old artist who really enjoys animals and character design!
I'm originally from the great state of Texas but am currently living in Virginia! I have 3 rat boys that live with us- Apollo, Neil, & Houston. I love them more than the air I breathe. Back home in Texas I have an old toothless pup named Dot, and two cats- Catsby & Trouble. I face time them when I can, I miss them so much!
I paint traditionally on a regular basis (I work at a paint & sip studio) and have been expanding my skills to markers as well! I've been drawing in general since I was very young, digitally for about 6+ years (I honestly can't remember when I started!) My current set up is an Asus Tuf Gaming FX504 Series with a Wacom Cintiq 13Hd.
I also like to play (or attempt to play) video games! Overwatch is one of my absolute favorites, I also have Stardew Valley, and am interested in expanding my collection in the near future (when there's not a move I need to pay for!) I play Animal Crossing New Leaf on a regular basis and am anxiously awaiting the arrival of Animal Crossing on the Switch! If you ever want to visit my town, toss me a friend code and I'll add you!
My general aesthetics are kind of all over the place but I'll do my best to explain! I grew up in Texas and love the country life, the outdoors, getting dirty, playing sports, however I'm also a huge fan of the 80s & 90s styles! (I also love that a lot of the 80s & 90s style is coming back- this is my jam!) Stripes. I love stripes. The other day prodistration pointed out that I was gushing over just about every striped item in a store we visited. Space is one of my absolute favorite subjects and it usually ties into a lot of what I create! I like to think that in theory (for my characters) I have a good sense of clothing style, however, when it comes to dressing myself in real life, jeans and a t-shirt are my go-to. I'm working on changing that! As for music, I listen to just about anything! I'm constantly on the hunt for new things to listen to! I always enjoy throwbacks, but tend to stick to listening to the same things over and over so I'm trying to break out of that habit!
