General | Posted 14 years agoI'm going! I've blogged about it over on my
bladespark account, and uploaded a pic of the huge heap of tails I'll be bringing. :D You can find me in the dealer's den pretty much any time it's open.

General | Posted 14 years agoSo the Achlys story turned up and just had to be written. Sorry about that! I'm still working on The Spark to Light a Candle, and chapter four is almost done!
Non-pony writing is still not going anywhere, my muse is insisting on ponies right now. Better ponies than nothing, right? I may try and get some of my non-pony stories finished up after To Light a Candle is done, but then again I may not, as I already have several more ponyfic ideas. :D The one after this involves Lovecraft, and I also kind of want to write a serious shipfic.
As always, I really appreciate you, my readers. Especially after posting to some other writing sites. :P For all that bronies are supposed to be all about friendship and tolerance, some of them can be real dicks. :P So thank you all for your kind comments, and for your favs.
If you enjoy ponyfic, I highly recommend you check out Fimfiction, a great Friendship is Magic fanfic site. I have all my pony stories posted there, and you can rate or fav them there if you like. :) http://www.fimfiction.com/user/SPark But there are tons of other great authors on the site, I've been enjoying reading other people's stories. My user page there has all my favorites/the ones I'm following, so you can read them too if you like.
Now, back to work.

General | Posted 14 years agoMy front page is entirely ponies now. :P You'd never know I mostly write original fic. Oh well. Ponies are in. (Ponies are the new black?)
More ponies
General | Posted 14 years agoOkay, I'm going to try uploading In the Eye of the Storm again.
PLEASE keep your comments civil. If ponies are not your thing, that's fine. You can just go elsewhere. If crossovers are not your thing and you want your ponies uncut, that's fine too. See above.

Your opinion wanted!
General | Posted 14 years agoIf you've read The New Black, please tell me if you found it:
a.) Funny.
b.) A turn on.
c.) Both
d.) Neither
(I'll confess right here I was going for just a, but I'm kind of curious.)
If you haven't read The New Black, your only excuse is if you've never seen an episode of Friendship is Magic, in which case you should get that fixed, stat.

Fanfic is suposed to be fun.
General | Posted 14 years agoBut since a lot of people have been very negative, nit-picky (frig! not being perfectly in line with every teeny little detail of the original canon does not make it a bad story!) and generally not fun at all, I'm pulling In the Eye of the Storm off the net. Sorry guys. I write for fun. When it stops being fun, I stop writing.
Hi guys
General | Posted 14 years agoSorry that the only thing uploaded lately is fanfic. I'll try to not make a habit of it, but the muse is a fickle creature, and is currently pony obsessed, so it might be happening again in the near future. :)
I do intend to at least have another Adventures of Roland up soon. You can feel free to poke me about it if I forget.

Thoughts on incomplete chapters?
General | Posted 14 years agoI've done a tiny bit of writing this week, on To Sing a Silent Song. I finished another four pages or so of Chapter One. Although I did post a teaser, I hadn't originally meant to post any more until Chapter One was finished. But I dunno, I have this writing here, and I haven't posted anything in ages. Would you guys rather I wait until it's actually to a good stopping point, or would you rather read what I've got as I get it?
Back for a bit. :)
General | Posted 15 years agoHi there! I'm doing just a little writing again right now. I will have a new Amazing Adventures of Roland up, probably tomorrow, and (very good news to some of you, I'm sure) I'm finally doing a little work on Dragon City, which is the sequel to Dragon Child.
Don't expect to see much on that front right away. Dragon Child took more than a decade to write, and while this time around I know what I'm doing a little better than I did as a teenager, I still expect it to go slowly. But there will probably be at least a couple of chapters up this year. :)
Also, I'm going to be commissioning (or trading for if I can) some cover art for Dragon City. Any recommendations for good dragon artists are welcome.

Not dead
General | Posted 15 years agoHi there. As one might guess, I haven't been writing lately. Too much other work to do.
I should have a new Amazing Adventures of Roland soon, and I uploaded some cover art for The Rainbow Serpent, but that's about all that's going on right now.
(Oh, that and working on Ruth's commission, which is about half done.)
So yeah. No new stories for a while, sorry!

Choices, choices
General | Posted 15 years agoWe got a very clear vote this time. :) So I'm writing the next segment of The Amazing Adventures right now.
Thanks again everybody! Gotta say I'm really enjoying doing this.
P.S. If you like dragons, you should check out my drawing account,
sparksparkles where I'm currently selling adoptable dragon eggs that hatch, grow, and can be bred once grown. :)

General | Posted 15 years agoI didn't botch the selection this time. Ruth's suggestion came out of the hat. I'm writing now, and should have it done sometime later today. :D
Just FYI
General | Posted 15 years agoI do take writing commissions. I thought I'd let folks know. I'm still figuring out my prices. I prefer to do a by-word price, but as an exact word count doesn't turn up until the story is done, I realize some people may prefer a flat or a per-page rate. I'm open to that as well.
I charge $0.005 per word. That's a half cent. Any pro writer will tell you that's ridiculously cheap, but I'm okay with that. A page usually has around 500 words, so you're paying roughly $2.50 per page. "Page" is just an imprecise term. I mean single-spaced pages in Open Office, but different programs and different books have vastly differing pages. :)
If you can't mentally translate "page" to "how long a story on FA is" the Adventures of Roland segments are, thus far, about one page each.
Feel free to ask if you have any questions about how this works.
(And yes, I am willing to take adult commissions. I haven't met a fetish yet that particularly bothered me.)

General | Posted 15 years agoAll the suggestions I got were interesting, I have to say. I'd have enjoyed writing any of them! But GremZealot's notion of an injured female dragon got two votes, so it's the one that got picked. :D
I'm currently writing the second segment of the story, and if all goes well I might even finish it later tonight.
Thanks very much to everybody who commented. Don't let your idea not getting picked this time keep you from giving me more ideas! This is probably going to be a long story, and odds are everybody will get an idea picked eventually. :)
Edit: Ah frick. :P I forgot to check for additional comments that didn't give me notifications before picking the winning story idea. Figures! I'm still learning how this process is going to work, and I hope Muyr and Mavik will forgive me for screwing this round up. I should have had a "hat draw" between the two ideas, but I've already written half the next segment, and I don't really want to throw it out. :(

All is now revealed
General | Posted 15 years agoI've said I like you, my readers. :) I'd like to be more involved with you, or let you be more involved with me, or whatever. I appreciate your votes on the "vote on what you'd like to see next" journal, I do intend to keep them in mind as I work this week. I might even have some more porn for you guys, given that the vote for that was unanimous.
But that's not all! I'm starting a new project, for me it'll be something of a writing exercise. For you it'll be a chance to participate in the writing process. You've started already, because I put all the names and colors I was given (here and on livejournal, where this project will also run) and drew one out of a hat.
So in just a few minutes I'll be posting the first segment of The Amazing Adventures of Roland the Indigo Dragon. :D
What kind of adventures will Roland have? Well, that's entirely up to you guys.
Here's how the process works:
1. I post a story segment, you read it. At the end of the segment I'm going to ask a question about what comes next.
2. You comment to answer that question with an idea.
OR
You comment in response to a comment already there and support somebody else's idea.
3. If there is one idea that gets put up by the most people/commented on the most, that's the idea that I'll pick, and I'll write the next segment accordingly.
4. If there is no clear winner amongst your suggestions, I'll write them all down and draw one from a hat, and then proceed as per step 3. :)
So this is not just going to be a "Choose your own adventure" style story, where I've plotted it all out ahead of time and you just get to pick which branch it goes down. No, the creative process is entirely in your hands. I'll just contribute the actual words, the plot is all yours.
In just moments the first segment will be posted and the adventure will begin. I'll try to post regularly, though I know there will be occasional pauses in the tale. I hope you all will join and help me tell the story.

It's a secret to everybody
General | Posted 15 years agoQuick, give me:
1. A male name.
2. A color.
All will be revealed in time. :D

Vote on what you'd like to see next.
General | Posted 15 years agoI'll preface this by saying that I write for fun, not for you guys. (Sorry!) Much as I like my fans, what fans like is a very small factor in what I write.
That said, it *is* still a factor. And I feel sort of like writing right now, but no story I've got in the pipeline is grabbing me, so one thing's as good as another. So here are your options, pick what you think sounds best.
1. Finish The Garden Maze/Labyrinth of Shadows.
2. Finish City of Sunlight
3. Work on To Sing a Silent Song (I won't say finish, as this is a novel, so "finish" is a looooooooooooong way off, but I could get another chunk big enough to post maybe.)
4. Finish another Dragon, Maiden Knight story.
5. Write some science fiction for once. (Well, TSaSS is sci-fi, but it's the only such that I have going just now.)
6. Write some more porn.
So give me your votes. :)

General | Posted 15 years agoFirst of all, sorry if I'm out of sorts lately. :P I've been having a bad couple of days.
Secondly, I am somehow comforted by the fact that the pr0n is getting a lot of views. All is right with the world. People are behaving normally. Woot.
I could stand to get some *comments* to go with those views, and some watchers would be even better, but I guess you can't have everything.

Random musing
General | Posted 15 years agoHave an erotic piece I'm pondering posting. I don't really want to get an audience just because I write porn, it's always seemed awfully cheap... And I tend to write adult stuff that involves my personal characters, so letting strangers see them in their most personal moments has always seemed a bit off-putting to me. I dunno, I'm still deciding.
I do think it's kind of weird that the absolutely most pornographic piece I've ever posted here, which would be outright smut if it didn't fit into a larger plot, has nearly the fewest views of anything in my entire gallery. That's a bit baffling. It really makes me wonder what happened there, and why nobody's looked at it.
I really will never understand what's popular and what's not. It's pretty darn illogical. A lot of the stuff I think isn't my best gets oodles of attention, while stuff I love to death gets ignored, and now this with the porn getting ignored... dunno. You guys on FA are weird. :D

I should stop predicting what I'll upload
General | Posted 15 years agoBecause I never seem to go along with my own predictions. :D Oh well. Have some more of The Garden Maze.
Yes, I know I'm not supposed to be active right now
General | Posted 15 years agoNo, the muse is still not with me. But I decided to finish posting what I've got of Blood and Darkness. Which is not much more, after that. But eh.
Also, since I finally went and found out how to do those previous/next links, I'm going through and putting them on things. This will be a sloooooooooooooow process, I find it annoyingly time-consuming to do. But eventually it should be all done, for everything in the gallery that's sequential, at least.

Apparently I have a "duty"
General | Posted 15 years agoSomebody over on lj (and apparently here on FA too) is claiming that all furry writers have a "duty" to read and critique other people's writing, otherwise we've no right to expect people to read our own.
Honestly? That's a load of bull honky. I expect people to read my work because my work is readable, good or enjoyable not in some kind of "you pat my back, I'll pat yours" exchange. I earned the right to get readers by writing well. I have no "duty" to read other people's stuff merely because it exists! If they want me to read it, they need to write well so that I can enjoy doing so, there is no "duty" or obligation on my part, and they are entitled to nothing whatsoever on their part. The only "duty" that exists is a writer's duty to him or herself, and that duty is whatever you as a writer damn well want it to be, not what some stranger on the internet tells you it is.
Not to say I don't read other people's stuff. Of course I do. But it's not my "duty", I read other writer's stuff for the same reason I expect people to read mine, because I enjoy doing so.
Heck, I don't even mind crit exchanges, if somebody says "You read my stuff and I'll read yours" I'll happily oblige. But not because it's my duty! Just because I'm a nice person like that, so why not?
Gah. If you seriously want to get people to read more, and have more exchange between authors, demanding we do so because it's our "duty" and we're failing at it, is NOT the way to go about it. It makes me want to pop him on the nose, frankly. Tell me that it's a wonderful way to build readership, tell me that it's a positive experience that I'll enjoy, tell me it'll build a great community, but don't tell me I'm a failure if I don't do it! Nobody likes being guilted into doing something.

For those of you suffering from story withdrawl...
General | Posted 15 years agoI did the 24 hour comic project a couple of days ago, and I'm posting the resultant comic over on my drawing account. :)
It's based on Phoenix Destiny, though somewhat altered to fit the short comic format.
Some of you might enjoy reading, though as yet of course there's only two pages. But I'll be posting a new one every day for the next month or so.

Muse is gone
General | Posted 15 years agoThe writing muse is currently not cooperating. So there will be another dry spell. Sorry folks!
Character revolt
General | Posted 15 years agoWhen the people you're writing about live in your head, sometimes they end up taking over, and turning the story in a direction you hadn't really meant it to go. Not always a bad thing, but often a bit surprising.
Also Darkangel really is kind of a freak. Though I mean that in a good way. Nothing wrong with being freaky, it beats being conformist by a long shot. :D
