[PSA] Fursuit Head Liners
Posted 9 years agoWas looking for a pair of half-chaps in my size. Wandered off to look at helmets. Realized these exist.
Search for : Headline It Helmet Liner
It is a sweat wicking disposable pad for those times when you plan to be in fursuit for the entire day. I realize that 2USD might be a bit expensive, but if you can afford a fursuit, you can spare a little more to keep yourself comfortable in extreme circumstances.
Slightly Related: Found a really nice sale. Dublin half chaps are being discontinued. You can get them for about 10USD right now. I'm at that awkward point exactly in between the children's large and the adult's extra small, but I guess I can continue wearing multiple pairs of socks underneath.
For Context: I'm planning to start training another horse after extension season, while I'm studying for the ethics exam. I promised :Samifur: a ride, so hopefully I'll have it quiet enough for beginners by the time he visits. If not, well... helmet. I do not currently own a horse. Instead, I sometimes lease from a rescue, but I've never managed to hang on to the same horse for more than a month. Once they're gentled and rideable, they tend to get sold or adopted, and then it's time to start over.
Rant: Every time I see "riding boots" that are not suitable for their intended purpose, I just... no. It's not okay. It's false advertising. They should be required to be called "knee high boots" "tall boots" or "riding /style/ boots". All I can think is "Gee. That looks really unsafe." The hard arch is going to make your foot slip and then you'll get dragged by the tread on the front. For the love of the great Aeons of Yevon, if it has a spike heel, it isn't a "riding boot". You're better off going barefoot.
Tangent: Freeeeeeeisians. There's one for sale not so far from here, and I want her, but I have neither the experience nor the resources for horse ownership right now. Life goals.
Art Status: No schedule changes. Muriat's monochrome should still be done before November and the wedding portrait is still on track for completion by May.
Art Status Edit: All Murait's references have vanished. Might skip over and come back to him when I have refs.
Upcoming Kiriban
Getting close to 2k watchers and therefore free art. Get your ticket in while you can: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/7731651/
I realized that I forgot to post this in my last few journals. Sorry. It is still going and there are 13 more to go.

[Personal] Pass
Posted 9 years ago1) Bedbugs are taken care of. I probably didn't need to take Friday off, I just panicked. It turns out, I probably only had the one. Everything has been washed, dried, and poisoned just in case, and I threw out the fur that didn't make it through the industrial dryer. (Sorry Kreoche. I guess you aren't getting a lion tail for Christmas.) I have fewer possessions than expected.
2) Completely by coincidence, I also picked up "Tidying Up" at the audiobook library, and I can't decide whether or not I have too many things. I own many things that do not bring me joy, but I also do not take joy in having to drag myself outside to buy replacements. Clothes for example, I dislike all of my sweaters, but I need office-appropriate warm clothing. Or, my can opener. I do not like it, but I don't want to go buy another one. I feel like it isn't very good criteria. Instead I propose the following: "Is the value that this item currently provides to me worth the effort to keep track of it?" I do love some of my belongings, but not many. The rest are fungible.
3) CPA Exam = Pass. Maybe now I can throw out some of those accounting textbooks. I'm tired of lugging them from place to place. If there's one thing that will trim down your possessions, it's moving frequently and alone. Also, I get a business card and an office and new computers just came in.
4) Art things are back on track. Working on Entropy's sketch. Muriat is up next.
5) I really want to buy Seasons After Fall, but I still have two games that I haven't finished. I don't like to get anything new until I'm done with the old one, however, I haven't finished them because I'm stuck at a point where the game is too difficult for me to progress further because I lack the necessary reflexes and coordination. At what point is it okay to give up? (In the past, the answer has been "When the game becomes literally unplayable through theft or casualty, but that's not applicable in this case.)

[Personal] I have been infected
Posted 9 years agoAll of the things are going to be delayed.
I have bedbugs. Minimum population of 2 (one live one remaining), maximum population of I have no idea, but probably not that many. Likely population of 5, judging by bite rate.
Bites started in early July, about twice per week. The bug I found was an adult, possibly the only adult. I've been looking for evidence, but it's possible that I haven't found any because the population is too low or the rest are all nymphs. If my estimates are correct, there shouldn't have been enough feedings for a second generation to grow up and begin breeding yet.
Also, I might be allergic. One of the bites on my calf is swelling really badly, to the point that it hurts to walk on.
Deep cleaning has been initiated. The exterminator is coming on Wednesday. I'm creating a clean zone in the other room by marking the border with tape and soaking the area with pesticide. (I know it doesn't kill them, but it's unlikely that the area is already infected since the area is clear and I don't spend much time over there. I'm creating a border that will repel them away from the cleaned things.) White bags are for transporting infected items. Black bags for clean. I've taken the day off from first-job and now I'm off to rent a steam cleaner from Home Depot and do a lot of laundry.
If I have so much as sat on your couch within the past two months, you may want to consider an inspection, or at the very least, washing all your things.
Related: I wonder if this is why Beanie started peeing on the bed in the mornings. He stopped after I put on the plastic sheet, which would create a barrier and mask the scent.

[Art Status] RMFC Report and Fall Schedule
Posted 9 years agoGreetings
I've just returned from RMFC. There were a few logistical hangups on Thursday night. I ended up staying in the overflow hotel with a friend and wasn't able to suit at all after hours. (Thank you to Chrys and MelloTrauma for rescuing me.) Ah well, maybe next year.
RMFC at-con commissions will be posted when I have a chance to clean up the images. Magical Girl Eeveloution keychains are also incoming. They were available at RMFC and will continue to be available year-round, but I didn't have a chance to put together a nice display before the con. So far there is only Flareon, Jolteon, and Vaporeon, but I hope to do the rest of them soon. (My favorite is Umbreon because tiny dark tank.)
Thank you for coming to my table and chatting with me. It was nice to meet all of you and I hope we can keep in contact. Skype and notes are both open whenever I'm home, so feel free to send me a message if you want to chat.
Commission slots are now full, but there will be an announcement if anything changes.
Fall Art Schedule
August 15 - 26 Exam Cram. Dying a little bit on the inside.
August 27 - 28 Ref Sheets
August 29 - October 21 First-Job has Second Busy Season [Extensions]
October 22 - 30 Finish up Ref Sheets and monochrome. Start sketching for wedding portrait.
Upcoming Kiriban

[Personal] Lost my key
Posted 9 years agoI have lost the key fob to my vehicle, and now I cannot go to places. I still have the tag with a useless cut code, but the vehicle is technologically advanced and has no keyholes, only buttons and sensors.
Before you lecture me about responsible key ownership, I have definitely not deliberately removed it and misplaced it because the metal ring to which it was attached is still there. That's right! I not only lost the key, I somehow broke it off the keyring. I have looked around my home and retraced the entire two mile or so run on which I must have lost it.
Just..oh dear. It is expensive and troublesome to replace.
[FREE ART] 2k Sketch Stream
Posted 9 years agoIt's been a long journey from 2009 until now, a journey full of pitfalls and heartache and few glorious triumphs, and 25-40% not being online at all due to First-Job.
Thanks for sticking with me!
Item 1: Free Sketch for a Loyal Watcher
- You must have been watching before now.
- Post a ref here.
- One winner will be chosen by rng.
Item 2: Free Sketch for a Watcher
- You must be currently watching at the time the raffle is held. New watchers are welcome.
- Post a ref here.
- One winner will be chosen by rng.
Item 3: Free Sketch Stream
- Stream will be held when 2k watchers is reached.
- Stream will be announced by a post to scraps.
- Limited the lesser of one item or half an hour of work per person.
Points of Clarification
Free sketches will likely be loose single color speedpaint headshots, but you can request a different style if you prefer. Just leave a message with your ref post. Limit 1 hour.
Please make sure your ref is not rated Adult. I have the content filter turned on, so I will not be able to see it. It doesn't have to be a full ref sheet. A single picture is fine.
I will not be drawing explicit sexual content. Tasteful nudity is fine.
I have just cleared my watch notifications. In order to be eligible for Item 1, you will appear in the watch list at the time of the raffle, but will not appear in the new watcher notifications.
The first number chosen gets Item 2. I will then keep rolling the RNG until it generates someone who is not a new watcher.
The time the freebie stream begins will be between 17:00 and 20:00 US MST, so that people will normal office hours on my side of the planet will be able to attend. The date will be within 7 days of reaching 2k watchers. The stream probably last until midnight. It is being announced now, so that everyone will know to keep an eye on new submission notifications.
I might begin streaming regular work before then, but freebies will begin at the time specified.

[HELP] Badge Supplies
Posted 9 years agoWork related question: Where does everyone get their badge clips and slot punches. I somehow expected them to be available at an office supply store near me, and I was wrong.
[Personal] Platform Games
Posted 9 years agoI have probably previously mentioned that I am incredibly bad at video games, particularly platformers. I have no game literacy and poor reflexes. There are some really beautiful games that have been on my To-Play list for a few years, namely Ori and Tengami. Around this time last year, I picked up Nihlumbra and sank 12 or so hours into it, got stuck, and gave up intending to look up a Let's Play. (Because once I've sat there for several hours trying to figure out a puzzle, chances are I'm not going to figure it out without help. My record is six years, and that was just to figure out how to get past the opening screen.)
I finally looked up the solution. As usual, it is surprisingly simple, and also something that I have already tried but failed to accomplish due to poor gaming skills. Out of curiosity, I also looked at the reviews on Steam. This game is supposed to be completed in about 3.5 hours. It's been nearly four times that long and I am still not even halfway through. This is just.. Why must all the really pretty games be platformers? I am truly incompetent.
Art Status Update:
Trying to catch up on studying. Need to do Purple's thing, and then really want to do Magical Girl Eeveelutions in cute dresses.
To the People Who Don't Believe in Using Game Guides:
I want you to go out into the wilderness, where you have no internet access and no tools, and build a laser from scratch from only what you can find, without any reference material or other instructions, and without looking up anything about lasers before you go, because that would be cheating. Mine your own ore. Smelt your own metals. Blow your own glass. Do your own experiments to figure out how light travels. For people who already have a good idea of how a laser works and the archaic skills needed to make machining tools, this is a fun challenge that might take a few weeks. For everyone else, it's possible, but not within one lifetime. Tell your descendents to bask in the good feeling that comes from having accomplished something with almost no utility that could have been easily obtained by other more efficient means.

[Personal] Brain Food
Posted 9 years agoEverybody and the internet keeps telling me that things like salmon and blueberries and coconut and exotic whatnot are supposed to be really good for brain function and that I should be eating those things while studying, but logic is telling me that what I actually need is a lot more sugar.
Reasoning: Intensive studying is a huge caloric energy-suck, and sugar is one of the few things with molecules small enough to cross the blood-brain barrier. While I am eating other things, it's not enough and not being processed quickly enough to keep up with new metabolic requirements.
Evidence: Attention span is insufficient. I keep falling asleep and my weight went down again despite eating more and exercising less.
Counter Argument: My weight went down because I'm exercising less. I'm trying to justify a sudden weird craving for sugar.
Counter-Counter Argument: The sudden weird craving for sugar is a result of needing sugar. Seriously, the idea of going into the kitchen and eating a spoonful of white sugar is really appealing right now, (but not appealing enough to outweigh the hassle of dealing with sugar grains all over the counter, which is why I haven't done it.) Candy has suddenly become more desireable than things that I normally strongly prefer such as avocados, salami, pats of butter, sausages, beef jerky, grapefruit, dried fish, cashews, spam, and pickles.
What is happening? orz Please advise.

[Personal] RP
Posted 9 years agoI really miss the thing where two people get a bunch of sparkledogs and make a vague kind of RP with a giant, beautiful, fully fleshed out world and talk with each other about characters and sometimes they [the characters] have relationships with each other, and I get to draw art of them and the other person draws art of them and it's just this cute little side story existing as part of my life.
[Personal] Sexist
Posted 9 years agoThought: When you're smaller and weaker than nearly everyone over the age of 10, you get a really clear sense of what kinds of people will and won't hit you.
Related: Something kind of alarming happened.
Clarification: I am not injured. There was no hitting within the past 90 days.
Addendum: There is a legal reason that I cannot be less vague, and that is another thing about the situation that also irritates me, because that legal reason is supposed to apply to more than one person, yet I seem to be the only one actually following it.

[Personal] Bankruptcy is complicated.
Posted 9 years agoI don't understand. I don't understand anything. I think the difference between Ch 7 and Ch 11 might be voluntary filing but I am not sure. Also what is this number that changes every year for and what are the standards for "abuse" of the bankruptcy provisions? Why would a creditor refuse payment and force filing? In what situation would that ever be preferable?
and my number one question of the day:
Why is the original debtor only sometimes still liable for a mortgage on a property that is sold subject to a lien, if the new owner is aware of it? Why only sometimes? Why not all the time? What even is a mortgage?
To clarify: I am not filing for bankruptcy. I am studying for a license exam.

[Art Status] Worklist Clear
Posted 9 years agoThat's right. Worklist is clear. All the things are done.
Open for small items such as sketches, badges, icons, and pretty much everything that is not a 5 hour painting.
Pre-orders for RMFC pickup open.
Trying to come up with something premade. Probably pokemon related due to Pokemon Go. Template badges or eveeloutions?

[Personal] No egg, no meatloaf.
Posted 9 years agoI am standing in the kitchen cutting an onion, and I am not even sure what I'm going to do with it.
My life has no structure.
Addendum:
This is my current food inventory
2 Lettuce
3 Banana
.75 Onion
2lbs Cherries
1/2lb Hamburger

[NOTICE] Changes to ToS
Posted 9 years agoGoing through exam cram, noticed I was missing a few things.
Added Clarification
It's fandom industry standard that the artist keeps all rights to the image, but now there is more accurate legal wording.
Added Section - Shipping
Mostly this doesn't apply because my work is digital and my prints are sold in person, but my stuff is FOB shipping point. Once it goes to the post office/fedex, it's not my problem. Buyer assumes risk of loss or damage during delivery.
Changed Terms - Refunds
I have a general six month from payment due date for commissions, unless otherwise negotiated. I have never actually missed a deadline before, but exam cram has filled me with horror stories of substantial performance getting thwarted by a bad contract. So, it now says in the ToS that the refund for late commissions will be for the work not already completed. If I have not started, you automatically get a full refund. Nothing changes. If I have pretty much finished the work and it's a ton of nitpicky details that essentially amounts to the buyer preventing performance by deliberately withholding satisfaction on substantially complete work of reasonable quality, small refund.
Of course, none of you would ever do that because the fandom art industry is generally honest if not very professional and doesn't often seek legal remedies, but I'm paranoid, okay?

[Art Status] Stream Schedule Input
Posted 9 years agoGreetings!
I'm on study leave for the next two months. Basically that means that I'm using up all my vacation time from First-Job to stay home and prepare for a licensing exam, which also means that I get to set my own schedule.
I will be working on a painting and open for some stream commissions. Who's interested in coming to a stream and what days/times are most convenient for you?
Sloth Pads:
The resin mold failed. Attempt 2 is as follows.
Step 1 - Make a sculpt out of sculpey, bake and seal.
Step 2 - Press the master into clay, to make a negative.
Step 3 - Pour silicon into the clay negative.
Alexi Husky Large Painting:
Doing some preliminary sketches and collecting refs so far.
Expected to be finished within two weeks.
Other:
Two small items to be prepared as birthday gifts due on July 9th. Shouldn't take more than an evening.
Should probably go to the dentist. Last cleaning was 2013.

[Personal] Furvilla?
Posted 9 years agoHow many people are still playing after the first day and what all do you do there?
It seems solid as far as SIM games go, but it might have the wrong player base. There is not usually this much trolling at the beginning, and the number and competency level of artists is rather high while the literacy rate is rather low compared to other pet sims.
Edit: And it looks like Furvilla has just gone down. It's blipping, anyway.

[Personal] The worst quadsuit idea
Posted 9 years ago[STATUS] How it actually went
Posted 9 years agoThird-Job = Pretty much resolved. Estimated 1 hour per month upkeep.
Sloth Claws = I have one usable claw, a resin prototype, two that are kind of okay, and one that is a bubbling mess. I might have to buy another pack of resin. The key to demolding is lube. (No, not like that. It goes on the outside of the mold so it doesn't stick when I flip it out.)
Xavi = No progress
Alexi = No progress
Fat sassy pony is doing okay. She's much more well behaved with a heavier workload, and I'm still making an attempt at suggestive literalisms.

[STATUS] Second-Job June Schedule
Posted 9 years agoProbably no more time for any large projects this year, although small items (2 hours or less) are still available. Schedule is as follows:
June 1 - Either followup on third-job or a trip to the hobby shop to get more casting supplies.
June 2 - Third Job
June 3 - Third Job or Casting Supplies. Possibly a foam purchase.
June 4 - If I haven't gotten the casting supplies yet, I will get them today.
June 5 - Sloth Claws
June 6 - Third Job or Xavi's painting
June 7 - Third Job
June 8 - Third Job or Xavi's painting
June 9 - If third job isn't mostly resolved by now, there is a problem.
June 10 - ??? Spillover Day.
June 11 - Sloth Claws better damn well be cast by now. Sewing shouldn't take more than an evening.
June 12 - Extra day for sloth claws. If finished, Xavi's painting.
June 13 - 19 = Hoping to finish Xavi's painting and start on Alexi's painting and Cody's head.
For those of you thinking, "Gee, that can't possibly take all day." It doesn't. First-Job takes up normal business hours, so I only have a little time each night to work on weekdays, and some of it has to be spent on cooking and laundry.

[STATUS] Print Grab Bags
Posted 9 years agoBLFC was excellent. It could have been more excellent if I wasn't sick the entire time. If you went home with con crud, I apologize for infecting you. I didn't realize I was sick until 4 hours into the drive there. Also, the Utah salt flats are beautiful in the morning and there was a blizzard in Wyoming on the way home.
I've been trying to trim down my sample binder and move on to high quality prints. Currently, my floor is covered in paper, and only about half of it is important paper with text on it.
I've organized the prints into themed grab bags of 5 things each, which will be selling for 5 dollars plus shipping (so in most cases, 7 dollars). There will be some prints, some originals, and some badge cards, Some of them may have 6 things, because I just found some more originals. Pretty good deal.
I'm also removing the sketch approval clause from the ToS. I almost never have projects with one or two WIPs anymore. Either it's finished in one shot or it's a huge project that stretches over 10 WIP shots and several weeks with plenty of time for the commissioner to make changes, so it really doesn't do anything.
The two current large projects for this month are Tica's sloth arms and Xaviera's peacock dress painting. In addition, my personal fursuit head finally cracked, so it might be time to start on that quad project that I've been planning for the last few years.
Lastly, if we met at BLFC, please throw me a note if you want to chat. (Or if we met at any other con, but I already know most of you that do the Midwestern con circuit every year. You already know you can talk to me anytime.)

[CON] BLFC 2016
Posted 9 years agoHotel: Con hotel!
Arrival: Leaving Wednesday night, sleeping on the road, arriving Friday morning.
Departure: Sunday afternoon, with clearance to take Monday off from work.
Transportation: Driving for 16 hours by myself. Please contact me if you need or have a rideshare out of Denver, or want to be picked up along the way. Seriously. I need someone to keep me awake.
Sharing a room with:
atrueblueartist
sibertyger and some others.
Age: 18+
Height: 5'
Weight: 100lbs (generous estimate)
Relationship Status: Single, I think. Also demi, but it would be nice to get over that somehow.
Art Status: Yes. Bazaar Table B11, next to Wolvie
What will you be offering at your table?
Traditional commissions, preorders for digital, some prints, a few glow jars, exactly one feline blank
Do you take commissions?
Yes. Very much yes. I am at the con for entirely this reason.
Do you do trades?
Yes, but on a case by case basis.
Are you a Fursuiter?
Yes! I have a fullsuit, which I will be wearing after hours. I might actually get the neckpiece done.
What's your fursuit?
Blunt muzzle dog thing with small ears. Fawn with black mask, black blanket, and white irish (white underside, black face, tan eyespots and cheeks). Realistic style with reflective eyes, digitigrade legs, and small.
Who do you hang out with?
I'll be in Artist Alley, table B11. No plans for after hours, so come find me if you want to chat.
Attending parties?
If invited, sure! I'd rather not barge into a bunch of strangers on my own initiative. It's not polite.
Do you drink?
I can't, but I bring sugar syrup so I can pretend.
Can I buy you a drink?
Virgin rum and coke. Or, if you feel like being fancy, a cup of half grenadine and half sours.
Do you smoke?
No, but I don't mind if you do.
Are you attending any panels?
Probably. There isn't a list of panels yet, so I couldn't tell you what looks interesting.
Stage or public performance?
Not if it's during dealer hours.
How do I identify my self to you?
State your fursona, and also anywhere we might have interacted. I can't see faces, so I won't recognize you unless I know you well enough to know your voice, but I will remember your fursona.
Rules of engagement (physical contact)?
I know it makes you feel strong and powerful because I am small, but please ASK before picking me up. Otherwise, contact is fine. Don't touch my face or do anything you wouldn't want law enforcement to see you doing in public.
How can I find you?
Out of suit, I am a tiny Asian with square glasses and short hair. I like to have my face covered and dress shirts.
Can I talk to you?
Of course!
Can I give you lots of money?
Yes. Please buy the things.
Can I give you stuff?
I suppose?
Can I hug or snuggle with you?
Yes. I like to be petted. I'll have a chart up soon.
Can I come to dinner with you?
Dinner, for me, will probably be a bag of hard tack or other trail food, but you're welcome to sit with me a chat while I eat.
Can I hang out with you?
Sure. (After hours though. Please try not to block the table.)
Can I take your picture?
Yes! Also, please send them to me!
How do I know if you're not looking to socialize (angry, busy or upset)?
1) Customers at the table always take priority over socializing. If someone else walks up, I will drop my conversation with you to greet that person. It's not because I don't like you or that I'm trying to brush you off, that's just how being a shopkeeper is done.
2) After hours, I will say to you, with words "I'm sorry, but I'm currently [activity]. We can talk later."
3) Do not block my path in suit. If I don't respond to a verbal greeting, I am probably dying and trying to get to the headless lounge.
Personality Type?
Unnecessarily formal. Have you watched Black Butler? I am the tiniest frowniest little prince-ling dog, who knows a lot of things and has to try hard to remember that it's not polite to give unsolicited information.

[SLOTS OPEN] Sketches and BLFC Badge Preorder
Posted 9 years ago1) New Pricelist is up. The watercolor items are now made with real heavy watercolor paper, which allows much brighter colors and more layering. I've also fixed my contrast problem on the digital work. In addition, there are some cute and fun things officially added to the menu. As always, if you have questions don't hesitate to contact me. Now that busy season is over, I'm back.
2) Sketch slots are open!
3) BLFC Preorders are open. Preordered items can be traditional or digital and will be laminated upon request. I will not have a laminator or badge clips available at con, fair warning. Please see price list.
4) It's almost time for exam-cram again. I have clearance from normal-people job to take leave during July and August to study for the last part of a license exam. Depending on how intensive it is, I may be absent from FA at that time, but I will keep you updated. As always, whenever a long wait comes up, any commissions that haven't been started have the option of either to wait or a full refund.
5) Stay tuned for uploads from Wild Nights. As usual, I forgot to photograph a few things, so if you don't see your commission, be a sweetie and scan it for me?
6) Wild Nights was a blast! Congrats to
aTrueBlueArtist who is GoH next year and also to
NateDay and
vixiesnow on their happy engagement.
