Government Sues Art Institutes
General | Posted 14 years agoIf you're thinking about getting an education in any field of commercial art, you need to read this article first:
http://www.pdnonline.com/pdn/news/T.....es--3531.shtml
My guy and I graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, but unfortunately, we attended earlier than the time period covered by this lawsuit. I can tell you from experience, though, the complaints brought against the school are quite legitimate. (We enrolled in animation and mulitmedia; these issues cover the scope of programs offered, not just photography.) Education is expensive in a lot of ways.....choose wisely.
Donation Gift Art Offer:
The 6th and final page of the Mint/Jackie expansion comic is ready for you now! This and all the donation gift art details can be found here: http://www.jackal86.100megs8.com/Du.....te/donate.html
Thanks, everyone; hope you'll enjoy them!
Again, thanks so much to everyone who has watched me this past month! *shakes paws*
When will there be more of this?
A word about my commissions: I get a lot of similar questions about the pictures I post here and on my site; people ask if I'm going to continue a certain comic series or take the project from line art to color in the near future. Please, read the description of the image; if it's listed as a "commission", that means someone paid me to draw it for them. I personally had nothing to do with the characters or what's happing in the picture/comic, I just drew what was described for me. If the person paid for 3 comic pages, we did 3. If they paid for line art only, that's what I did for them. I'm truly flattered that folks are so keen on these pieces, but it's not up to me in any way to make more for the set or scenario. If there is to be more added to a project, it's up to the person who bought it to commission more.
And in regard to making additions as a request instead of a commission, I regret that my financial situation will not allow me to take requests at this time. I can't even get my own projects done right now.

Order_Chiroptera Yay!Commission Status.....
General | Posted 14 years agoOkay, so, I'm getting a lot of questions about when I can open commissions again (thank you kindly for your interest!). I guess people aren't finding my queue over on DA so I'll post it here, too. It's down at the very bottom of the journal, I'll keep it there as well as on DA. As I finish people's orders, I take their names off the list. I can't hope to open commissions again until I'm down to just a few, so if you want to keep tabs on my progress, there you go.
I promise I will make sure I post journals well in advance of the opening since they filled up so quickly last time. But I will not give any individual private notice by e-mail or note, so please don't ask.

News:
1) Deathly Hallows pt.2 was unbelievably awesome!
2) We have praying mantises in our yard this summer and I'm giddy over it!
3) On a more serious note....I hear people from time to time with negative things to say about PayPal. Well, recently someone somewhere got a hold of my card number and made some illegal purchases. It's not surprising given the businesses over the past year sending messages to their customers: "we got hacked, your card may have been taken, soooorry...." I could not have been more pleased with the way PayPal handled the matter. Their system knew the day they were made that I wasn't the one making the purchases, shut down my card immediately, and called me about it. The customer service was prompt, friendly and knowledgeable, and they got a new card application under way for me. What's more, they were able to stop the purchases from clearing at all, so the bad guy got screwed and I didn't have to make a claim reporting the lost money. It's never acceptable to have your money stolen, but I don't have much of it and every single dollar makes a big difference, so this was the best possible outcome to a crappy situation. Respect knuckles to PayPal.

And in regard to making additions as a request instead of a commission, I regret that my financial situation will not allow me to take requests at this time. I can't even get my own projects done right now.

Order_Chiroptera Yay!Current Commission Status: Expect Delays
General | Posted 14 years agoThose currently getting art from me are probably wondering what's taking so long.....just to let you know, there's a lot going on for me right now that is beyond my control: my brother's ill and has spent the last two days in the hospital, my mom's laid up now as well, my next door neighbor is recovering from surgery and needs someone to do her heavy chores. Ever since Easter there's been a constant string of family gatherings, birthdays, baby showers and such that I'm obligated to go to because, you know, "it's family". And it's all in addition to my normal non-art duties, so I've been spending way too much time away from my desk. I'm sorry that I haven't been able produce work at my normal turn-around time, but I should be able to get back on track when things even out a little.
Thanks for your patience.
Page 2 of the Mint/Jackie donation comic is ready for you now! Details via the link below. So sorry for the delay in updating, we've had a lot of family events recently and I'm about a week behind in everything.....
This expansion-themed comic will be 6 line-art pages long, cost is $10 per page. Get it here: http://www.jackal86.100megs8.com/Du.....te/donate.html
Thanks, everyone; hope you'll enjoy it!

Cool Stuff You Should Check Out.......
The first is Human Planet on Discovery Channel.....if you haven't seen it, the documentary explores all the incredible things humans do to make a living in the wild places of our Earth. Gorgeous footage aside, it's a fascinating set of stories...really puts life in perspective. It's a 6-parter that has already aired, but Discovery always replays these things so if you see it come around again, don't miss it.
And second, Fred Seibert has an Adventure Time Photostream with tons of awesome pics, but of particular interest is the background gallery....this show is about as out-of-the-box as children's animation can get while still maintaining a sense of relatability, and so much of that feel can be attributed to these amazing environments. It's like....Dr. Seuss meets the Brothers Grimm...this is what it looks like when imagination is turned loose. Completely inspiring, totally Math.
You can access it through Frederator's site, but his collection is here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/845684.....7612799799891/

Okay, the first page of the Donation Contest comic is now available, and you can also view a sketch of my rendition of Mint and Jackie (which I hope they find flattering o_o ).
The overview:
MintMonkey and
Haystack have enrolled in a drug trial to test the effects of Helix Lab's new growth hormone, which has some unexpected results! Story involves stuffing and some general fattening.
This comic will be 6 line-art pages long, cost is $10 per page. Get it here: http://www.jackal86.100megs8.com/Du.....te/donate.html

General | Posted 14 years agoI am pleased to announce the winners of my donation contest....

Mint the Monkey (squirrel monkey)

Jackie "Haystack" Caldoon (raccoon dog)

As usual, I'll be posting a fresh journal entry when the first page of this comic is available (sometime in the first week of April). I hope you'll enjoy the new series!

Order_Chiroptera Yay!The Current Commission List...
General | Posted 15 years agoI've had a lot of questions about the current list, so I want everyone to know that you can view it publicly now. It'll be up on my Deviant page only, not on my site or FA, because it's easiest to update there.
CLICK: http://www.duoradon.deviantart.com
The list is to the bottom left, not in my journal; it has it's own space. Names will be removed after each person's entire order is completed, so you can see when your turn is coming up. You don't need a DA account to see it.
As for how fast the list filled up this time, I know a lot of people were waiting a long time and were disappointed that they didn't see the notices in time and I'm very sorry. They've never filled up in one day before, but, what can I say...I'm only one person, I can only take on so much. Next time, I'll likely announce the opening before it happens and have any interested parties sign up at a designated time, but I'll only have a certain number of slots to fill rather than whatever comes in. It will certainly be months before that happens and I will keep everyone posted.
Thanks very kindly for your interest!

General | Posted 15 years agoOkay, well....can't say that's ever happened before.....open and closed in 1 day. It usually takes a week, and add to it I've got about 10 more than I'd normally take on in one list! It's hard to guess when the next opening will be, but the new list will be posted on http://www.duoradon.deviantart.com/ very soon.

Enter to Win Your Character in a Stuffing Comic!
For those that may not know, I take donations every month to help with my living expenses. As a thank you to anyone who sends money, I have an exclusive pic to give out, and lately they've been black and white comic pages. The next set coming up will be a six page series utilizing my version of a classic stuffing theme: a medical experiment that causes a hyper-elevated appetite. Instead of inventing new characters to star in this project, I thought it might be fun to let you submit yours! The winner or winners will receive all six of the finished pages for free, and it costs no money to send a submission.
If this is something you'd like to participate in, please read all of the information that follows. I know it's a lot, but I will not accept any submissions that do not follow the specified steps correctly.
The Premise of the Comic
Two (platonic) friends have signed up to be test subjects for a drug company that needs to assess the performance of a new hormone. Once injected, it results in a massively increased appetite in both subjects and they are provided with as much food as they can eat...you see where this is going. Expansion will be mostly belly, with some slight body fattening at the end for both main characters. The comic will be PG....no nudity or mature visuals/dialogue.
Who May Enter
This contest is open to everyone, even if you're also on (or planning to be on) my commission list. You do not have to have donated previously to enter. You must have a reliable e-mail account.
The Prize
Each page is delivered via e-mail and is a JPEG file, usually between 300 and 700 kb at 200 dpi. They are line art comics, no color, hand drawn and inked with Photoshop. There will be six pages in total, multiple panels on each page. If you'd like to see examples of the comics I've done for people in the past, please visit https://www.duoradon.com.
The Winners
I may choose either one or two people, depending on which characters I pick. I will not be choosing based on the person submitting, but on how I feel about your character and which pair works best for this series. Winners will be notified via e-mail as soon as I choose them.
What I Need
-I will require two characters, one male and one female.
-They MUST be anthro, meaning an animal style head and features on a human shaped body.
-Any species is acceptable, including mythical creatures like dragons and gryphons.
-I'd prefer two different species, or at least, two characters that look distinctly different.
-They must be original characters.
-I'm leaning towards more upbeat personalities....I don't think a sinister or morose character will fit well in this.
-I need characters of average height, so no one exceptionally tall or small.
-It must be apparent from the body structure that your character is an adult; no juveniles or chibis.
What NOT to Submit
-I cannot use any characters from (or heavily based upon) a tv show, game, movie, comic or book.
-No humans, monsters or ghoulish beasts (as much as I love them), but I won't say no to taurs....I don't know that I will pick a taur, but you may submit one.
-These are line art comics, so skip any notes about color.
-They should not be relatives, so for example, no father-daughter pairs, siblings, spouses, etc.
-Please don't send your character's entire background, just the information requested below. I will also not accept a story as a description, I don't have time for them.
-You may not, under any circumstances, submit a character that does not belong to you. That means two things: You may not make a submission on someone else's behalf, and You may not claim that someone else's character belongs to you. In other words, do not send a link to someone's character and tell me, "My guy looks just like this, but with different hair!" Any submissions I receive like that will be dismissed. You do not have to have a drawing of your character to enter; if you don't have any visual material, you'll have to write a careful description.
Possible Alterations to Your Character
Because I need to complete these comics more quickly than commissioned works, the characters I use must be free of extensive details. If you choose to submit a detailed character, understand that he/she will be simplified for this comic. For example, intricate patterns will be reduced, so a tiger may only show a few stripes instead of a proper arrangement, a wing will only show a hint of feathers, a face full of piercings may be reduced to only one or two, etc.
If your character is already fat, which is fine, he/she will be shown lean at the start of the series to better illustrate the expansion.
If your character is hyper-endowed, his/her anatomy will be scaled back to normal to keep the visuals PG.
If your character does not wear clothes and no outfit is specified, one will be made for him/her. Furthermore, if he/she wears things that wouldn't make sense to show in this, a new outfit will be needed. For example, say your guy always wears medieval clothing, he'll need a simple, modern outfit.
If your character comes with an accessory (such as a guitar, a weapon, a staff, etc.) it won't be rendered in this. Simple jewelry is okay.
Your Contribution to the Project
Please understand that you are submitting a character design only. I will be writing and drawing the comic on my own and I won't be able to consult you for input, nor will I be accepting constructive notes from you as the project commences. I'll try to follow any notes on personality you include with your submission, but if you don't like the idea of someone putting words in your character's mouth, this probably isn't the contest for you.
Deadlines and Dates
All entries must be received no later than March 15th, 2011.
The winner or winners will be notified between March 15th and April 1st.
The first page of the comic will be the gift art for April 2011 and will extend to September (one page each month). The winner will receive each page as soon as it is completed. I do not draw the pages ahead of time, I usually finish each one at the end of the month, or sometimes the first week of the following month, and then update my site immediately afterward. So it will take a full 6 months to receive the entirety of your prize.
How to Enter
You may submit either one or two characters for consideration, no more. If you choose to submit two, one must be male and one female. Even if you submit two, I may not necessarily choose both of your characters; I may pick one from you and the other from another person.
Submissions may be made by e-mail only, no "notes" or "private messages". Please do not include any info in this e-mail that doesn't pertain to the contest. If you have other business or questions, please compose a second e-mail with a different subject for it.
You may only submit once! If you send another e-mail later that says, "Please throw out my previous submission and replace it with this one", it will not be considered.
And please check your spelling! If I can't understand what you've written, I can't use your submission.
What to do:
1) Compose an e-mail to duoradon@sbcglobal.net
2) In the "Subject" field, enter Donation Contest Entry
3) Include all of the following information:
Your Name or Alias:
Your E-Mail Address (will not be displayed publicly) :
Your Character Info
Character's Name:
Gender:
Species:
Height:
Visual Description: In this part, please either attach (or link to) reference pics of your character, or write a short but concise description. Bulleted notes are easier to read than a narrative. Don't forget things like digitigrade or plantigrade feet and number of digits on each hand/foot. While the comic will be clean, you may attach or link to adult material if that is what you have for reference. (Please keep the size of attachments under 2 MB total).
Clothing, if any: Only specify which outfit you want your character to wear in this project.
Personality and Additional Notes:
If you're submitting two characters, copy the categories above into the same e-mail and repeat.
Disclaimers - Please read! Ignorance of the law is not excuse from it, as they say.
-By participating in this contest, you understand that the artwork I create of your character(s) will be used for financial gain. You also submit that you are not entitled to any portion of that income, whatever it may be, and are entering the contest for the purpose of obtaining six image files only.
-The files the winner will receive for free, just as with all the other donation images, are intended for private home use only. You may not post the files, distribute or publish them in any way.
-Your character will not be used for any additional projects or promotions other than that described above, for profit or otherwise, without your permission.
-You are not transferring ownership of copyright by entering your creation in this contest. Your ownership will be credited at the top of each comic page as: your character's name © 2011 your name or alias.
-These comic pages will not be published in any manner and will only be used in the donation promotion described on https://www.duoradon.com.
-Only the winner or winners are entitled to receive the described comic free of charge. The artwork will be available to everyone else for the usual $10 donation per page and will remain available for as long as I continue to take donations.
-Characters not chosen for this project will not be drawn or used in any projects, free or for profit, without the owner's permission.
-Violation of any of the aforementioned polices will forfeit the winner(s) from receiving the entirety of their prize (if possible) and excludes them from any future commissions or promotions indefinitely. In addition, legal action may be taken if the situation warrants it.
If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to post them or contact me. Thank you!

Thank you!

Thank you!

Order_Chiroptera Yay!New things for 2011 :)
General | Posted 15 years agoHappy New Year!
I'm pleased to say that I'm finally done with the renovations to my site, I hope you'll find it easy to navigate. For a full run-down of what has changed, please visit here: http://www.jackal86.100megs8.com/Du.....info/news.html
To be clear, I am NOT yet open for commissions, but there is some new commission information, so if you're thinking of signing up in the future, please read that section carefully. The commission changes do not apply to the few who are still on my waiting list, but it will be applicable to everyone who signs up the next time I open.
For what art is new this month: http://www.jackal86.100megs8.com/Du.....o/updates.html
Because there is a new Mature Work section, I've added some of the adult art I've previously kept off my site. It's not new art, but it is new to duoradon.com.
And of course, page 3 of the Donation comic is ready: http://www.jackal86.100megs8.com/Du.....te/donate.html
Thanks, everyone! All the best to you in 2011 :)

Order_Chiroptera Yay!Auction's end...
General | Posted 15 years agoThe sketchbook auction is finally complete! Package delivered, feedback left, most of the money absorbed into debts and bills. (Yes, already. I owe a lot of people a lot of money, whattaya gonna do). All things considered, it was very successful!
It did turn out to be a little more complicated than I'd hoped, and I can say I'll never send anything that valuable overseas again (long story). But I want to thank everyone who participated or offered their support! I honestly had no idea that thing would be so desired by so many. And I am sorry to those who seemed genuinely saddened not to be able to see those drawings. Again, thank you for your fellowship!
If I still need to fund-raise next November, I'm thinking the offering should be something that can go to anyone who wants it (for a limited time), either as a cd or some kind of download? Some ideas that came to mind were a multi-page comic exclusive, or maybe even a fic with accompanying drawings. If anyone has any feedback on that, I'd love to hear what you think!
Thanks to all! Please enjoy your holiday!

November's Donation Gift is the start of a new comic:
A few people have asked me to re-post a pair of images that were removed from my site during the remodel; they depicted a vixen who helped herself to a farm's chickens and was discovered by the resident dog who fell in love with her curvaceous form. It occurred to me that the concept might make a nice donation comic set, so here we go :) (The original images.....I...can't find them. They were embarrassingly old anyway.) So this set will last from now until March. You can read more on that and see the pair's new design here:
http://www.jackal86.100megs8.com/Du.....te/donate.html
Also, thanks to everyone who's been helping me out with donations, and those that took advantage of October's special offer, it's been a huge help!
And the sketchbook (details below) is coming along well, I'm really pleased with the images going into it. More info as I have it....

My Site Update Mailing List: When I sent out the e-mail to my subscribers this month, a whopping 18 of them bounced. Twice. I ran a virus scan and it came out clean, then I had them sent from another person's account and they bounced a third time, so it has to be on the other end. Somehow, in one month, 18 people's mailboxes went invalid? Anyway, if you're subscribed to receive e-mail updates from me and you didn't get one for November, my mail isn't making it into your box. You can contact me with a new address if you'd like to continue receiving updates, or just use this journal. It's rare that I send a notification through e-mail that I don't also post here afterward.
If the same addresses bounce the next time I send an update mail, I'll have to remove them from my address book.
So there's that.

The Sketchbook Auction.....I'm working on filling a hardcover sketchbook with stuffing and weight gain pencil drawings to be auctioned when complete. I hope to have it filled by late November, and the auction will likely be held on FurBuy. It does have a few nudes, so bidders must be over 18. All of it is new content, to be found only in this book, in a wide variety of types....male and female, furry and all-animal, cartoony and realistic. There are already a few pics I wish I could keep for myself, so I'm hopeful this will be a successful sale :) I'll be certain to let everyone know when and where the auction begins, as well as post a collage of samples from the book.

It's finally come to an end!
Kangaroo Blue comic page #6 is now available for having, and marks the end of the set. Next month I'll have a stand-alone color pic for donations, then come November, I plan on beginning a new comic arc with some old but redesigned characters.
Full details here: http://www.jackal86.100megs8.com/Du.....te/donate.html
On an unrelated note, does anyone out there know anything about agents that represent artists? For the purposes of selling paintings and drawings, etc? Any recommendations?
Thanks!

Not awful. It's more than 50% so I guess I'm satisfied :) Not too sure about that last segment, though. I don't read any magazines. Can't remember the last time I bought one....
Incidentally, I also sneeze and wipe my nose on my shirt. I know, I'm quite a catch. Drives my mate crazy, though....I think, if you could tally the most common verbal exchanges between a couple, that would be at the top for us:
"Need a napkin?"
"No thanks. *shhhnnorf*"
