ESG 2013-PARTY!
Posted 12 years agoSo finally home and somewhat rested from Elliott's Spring Gathering 2013 in Las Vegas (Hard Rock Cafe). Man I don't know if I am cut out to travel weekend back to back. Just prior to this weekend I was at BLFC. @_@.
ESG was short, but still amazing and unique compared to most furry gatherings. Though I could of done without seeing all the muscle heads and scantly dressed beach attire on the women folk there for the volley ball tournament that was going on in the hotel the same weekend.
On Saturday, I attended a panel on becoming a DJ with my hubs. He had became the center of attention of Chris Kemp, Zane Brown, and Graham Gold, for most of the panel since next to no one showed up. Eventually Neon Bunny (A great furry DJ) made an appearance later on. Graham Gold is so animated lol, very nice fella.
Later we attended a panel fronted by Lee Aronsohn, Gethin Anthony, and Maurice LaMarche in which they shared personal experiences in television production. This was equally entertaining. I loved the story about the storm during the Renly camp scene. And ZOMG Wacko belch. I still have that echoing in my head.
After this and prior to attending club Vanity again for the night, I guilt tripped the hubs into us going out to eat at the Bellagio Buffet, as it was Mothers day weekend and he forgot my card and this event was primarily for him. Though I did enjoy myself (wasn't expecting that)
Later that night, Xane FM (Zane Brown) opened up the dance floor. The club was mostly empty, and no one was dancing. The hubs had a great time and our roommate followed him onto the dance floor frequently.
While the hubs and eventually more suiters took to the floor, I noticed Graham Gold watching. I went up to him and chatted a bit. He had a lot of questions, as this was the first time he had heard of furries and was thrown into the culture head first. He seemed to take it all in with an open mind. e Then again this man has scene a lot in his days and has been residing in Thailand for the past five years (he was sharing a bit about himself as we chatted)
I also introduced myself to
malako , as I had been chatting with
MordecaiRigby via FB on my cell off and on and he informed me of who this blue raver fox was on the floor while I was describing the scene to him via text.
The night wound down with me, hubs,
matoakit, and
malako hanging out in the foyer until 4:00 a.m. after the club doors had been shut. The hubs and I also ran into Chris Kemp one last time in the elevator and got to talk more about music and our kids before we went our separate ways. His daughter is down right adorable!
On Sunday, I waited in the foyer as we were checked out and the hubs went off to suite up again to get a picture in front of the Las Vegas sign. Afterward, we went to lunch with all of the ESG attendees (thanks Elliott!) and departed to our place of origin.

Learned my lesson...
Posted 12 years agoSo last year I had offered a free tail or ear set if somone local was willing to model a few cosplay items for me I wanted to sell. I do not have a mannequin and thought the items I wanted to sell had a better chance of being sold if properly displayed (None of these items ended up selling x_X).
Thankfully a local fur did respond, and she was close to the exact right size for all the items.
When done I asked this individual what she wanted for her compensation (ears or a tail). Well I must not of been specific in my posting, as they thought they were going to receive both. I did not have the heart to deny the individual as they had modeled more items than I had originally anticipated after I had made my posting.
What this individual wanted exceeded my skill level at the time (in regards to the tail), so I had to practice with many patterns. Finally I figured out something that would work with much help from my husband. As frustrating as this ear and tail set was, I am glad I got the chance to do it...even if it was for free x_X.
I now have a better idea as to what I need to do when I start to make curved fox tails.
I also learned not to be bothered by folks who charge $45+ for a really nice tail. There is a reason for the price folks....its called multiple panels, pinning, and lots of time. I learned this all the hard way, but still worth it.
I wish I had gotten pictures of the final product, but when I was taking photos I noticed after the fact my memory card was not in my camera. I am not about to open up the package I so neatly put together to take photos again x_X.
I am also learning more and more as I improve, not to under charge myself or my time.
oye..now off to bed with me so I can be up before 1pm and off to the post office.

Grass is always greener on the other side of the fence
Posted 13 years agoSome days I feel like I am apart of the wrong portion of the fandom. This is from a creative standpoint. I know not everyone is a success. Though, some things just make me ponder as to what I may be doing wrong or what I could be doing better. The husband wants me to get into suit making and I just don't think that's for me. Other times I wish I could draw, stream, and just hash out beautiful pieces of art. Sadly I have never spent any time practicing.
I think I need to re-think my niche. I am glad I have gotten to a point where I have a fox ear pattern I like, that I am becoming more comfortable with shaving fur with the appropriate clippers. I have some new project ideas that hopefully will make a presence this year, but not till later in the year.
Right now I am contemplating furs to use in my to be suit. I have a few options to think about and more to consider if I accept some of the ones in-front of me now.
Oye I say, OYE!

Back from FC
Posted 13 years agoSo posting this a bit late, but I have been busy since we got back on last Monday.
had a good time, but it was quite a handful taking care of my daughter there, who is now two years old and helping my husband with his first fursuit.
We flew into San Jose from Utah. I was up practically up all night before we had flown out on Thursday evening. I tend to do all the cleaning and packing before trips. When we had finally gotten to the hotel, once again we had troubles. Not as many as last year with the Hilton, but still peeved. We had a room with no central air. It was so hot. There was no effort made by the hotel till mid Friday, even with all the calls and speaking to various employees at the front desk.
I thankfully was able to meet up with 99% of everyone I wanted to see. I even ran into some folks I hadn't expected, such as
mordecairigby
Our roommate
Honeyclaw was great. I felt bad he wasn't able to show up till Saturday though. His Badger head was awesome. Little Zoe was mesmerized by his eyes that lit up.
I wanted to say thank you to the following suiters for interacting with little Zoe:
mochi as Sami Saber
overzen as Barnaby
bongoqueen
busterhouse as Shuffles
kdvc as Axel
jellithepanda
sunrisegryphon

The only thing I was dissapointed with my time at FC, was that I was not able to attend the only three panels I really wanted to x_x. I think FC 2013 is Zoe's last till shes a bit easier to take care of. Her nutrition was not up to par as she refused to eat and drink many times. She also had an attitude most of the time since I was not solely concentrating on her.
I guess I was just grateful and happy to run into those who I did. While at FC I found about about BLFC http://www.biggestlittlefurcon.org/. With the hubs now addicted to suiting, he's now wanting to attend more than one a year when its doable. The hotel that BLFC is to take place at is very nice. I have stayed at it before for SNAFU.
One thing that made me quite happy while at FC was getting Zoe's new badger kigu from
mangoislandcreations. Sadly we did not get any photos nor did she wear it for long with how hot the Marriott and convention concourse was during the duration of FC. Once the air cleans up out here, I will take some outdoor photos of Zoe in her kigu.
EDIT:
xavierwolfy rocks! Not only is he on staff for BLFC, he got a picture of Zoe in her Kigu. Granted the hoods not up, but its a picture non the less. https://www.furaffinity.net/view/9777521/
Another great part of FC was the badge I received by
byn If you have the time check out his artwork. It's all traditionally done and his mate does some wonderful wood work as well
justsomekalak
Well that's it for me in regards to FC. Right now I need to finish a few commissions myself and get back on track with making stock for Banzai.

Movies!
Posted 13 years agoNot furry related, but still fun. Been watching girly films. There apparently isn't a sound track to the one I recently watched and thought was so cute. Thankfully somone made a play list. I want to listen to this while crafting:
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis.....4006B087A7E2DE
Need to ask the hubs how to make a cd of these songs.
On a furry related note, FC is so close. Gonna finish up a few freebie bones and bring them along with the paw pride boppers. Should start working on fox ears once back from FC and if I stay on track....should have photos come February-ish.

So much talent! Too many choices @_@
Posted 13 years agoThe hubs said I could get a suit this year. Seems simple right? I have the $, the reference sheets, and I know what I want materials and style wise. LOL, but that's the easy part.
The tough part is choosing which suit maker company to go with X_x. Then coordinating a commission with the selected company with when they have open slots and having it done in time for 2014 FC.
I just cant decide. Each artist I am interested in I know can bring a unique and certain flare to Squeeky.
Artist I am interested in (no particular order):
DTWA
iSqueakyPinky
drakonicknight (Definitely want a Halloween themed head aside from my Squeeky suit done by them)
SparkyCanDo
stuffedpandastudios
Faruku
MischiefMakers
...granted I think 1 or 2 of them are outside of the USA, so if I was to choose them I would have to look into higher shipping costs. But each one of those artist stand out in their own unique way.
Please do not respond about anything negative about any of the artist I listed. if you have something you want to share, message me privately. No one is perfect and crafting is an on going learning process.
What I need to do is create a research portfolio full of printed pictures of which suits I like by each artist, options each artist provides, approximate times the artist may be open for commissions, and prices.
Who knew that the possibility of owning a suit was such a long journey. It only took me about a year to come up with a character concept, finding an artist with an open commission slot (whose art style impressed me), and the funds to pay for a reference sheet.

Extension on Holiday Comissions
Posted 13 years agoSo it looks like I may be extending my deadline for Holiday commissions.
If interested and want an item before Christmas, then an order needs to be placed no later than December 10th for those in the USA.
For those outside of the States, orders should be placed by December 5th, and I will verify online after being informed of location, if its do-able.
I should have some pre-made feline ears up soon for sale. Also a few squeaky bone toys should be posted around the same time. I currently have two pre-made//left over stock on brown feline tails being sold $15usd. I am hoping to be able to add collars to the pre-made batch of goodies. I just got in some lovely blue and metallic blue bells, silver and red (since they are out for the holidays), and a few pink ones left for grabs.
new uploads will be added soon. I am finishing a bunch of commissions and have completed a set of ears that are way overdue to a wonderful gal who did some costume modeling for me.
Feel free to note me if you have any questions at all.

Wombats?
Posted 13 years agoSeriously folk, I had no idea how awesome wombats are till tonight.
I may of found a new critter to adore.

Your thoughts and input?
Posted 13 years agoSo I have started to notice that tails sewn by hand don't seem (no pun intended) to have visual seems. Tails sewn by machine regardless of stitch, fluffing out the seams, still have a seam slightly visible. On the other hand I have heard tails sewn by machine are just better quality due tot he tight and neat stitching.
Whats your input and $0.02 on this?
I ask because i am going to be trying to make some fox tails here in the next few months. I want them to look as natural as possible and I just don't have the time to learn how to with yarn which I know moves more naturally. Also these tails are aimed at anime fans vs those int he fandom, so curvature is really not a selling point here and not worth my time.

New photos up soon? and mini status update
Posted 13 years agoSo I am in the works of making some different colored variations of tanuki ears. @_@. I can say I wasn't 100% pleased with the first combo I made up. It was based of off cartoon/movie depictions. Its darn hard to find a decent image of an actual tanuki's backside. From what I can tell the colors vary per individual adult tanuki and the youngins have darker fur on the back till they starts to age where it does lighten. Being as I don't airbrush, nothing I make will be 100% accurate.
I know it won't matter to the audience these works will be targeted towards (anime con attendees), but it matter to me. I sort of need to finalize the design and decide what wont be too time consuming, so I can charge a decent rate for them.
Aside from that it's time for me to star pinning tails again and jump on the bandwagon of creating stock for Banzai. In addition to that I am still trying to tweak out some issues I am having with getting the artist alley up and ready before mid march (details/info posting on site). There is so much to do and balancing the two has not been easy. I feel like I am starting from scratch honestly. The individual in charge before me only did the bare minimum for this department.
Also currently have my living room under construction. I want a kitchen and dinning room back @_@.
anywho I could ramble more, but I really should be in bed as I have 6 hrs before I have to get up for a staff meeting. *sigh*

Charity Gala maybe?
Posted 13 years agoSo I am trying to raise some money so maybe me and the hubs can attend a charity gala next month. Tickets are $50 a person. Currently selling some various items on the Dealer's Den in hopes of raising some of that money. Thanks for looking even if nothing interest you.

Expand your horizons
Posted 14 years agoSo there are so many talented artist on here that I watch. I would love to wear there works on shirts, hats, and even better have it on a post card. Would just love to snatch up pretty artwork on post cards and share the love and beauty/talent by writing a friend the old snail mail way.
fursuit decissions
Posted 14 years agoSo the Husband has decided for his first suit, he is going to go with a wolf. I told him that I would follow his lead in species choice. I think it would be cute to do matching species. I know he likes more natural colors, where as I want to do a mix of base colors being natural and any markings or accessories (claws, whiskers) on my suit to be wild.
For the longest time I have been in love with the passiflora caerulea flower. I just adore the vivid colors. So once I finalize which artist I want to create my reference sheet, I am going to work those colors into the character. Now for a name. I want it to be original and I would like to have it suit the fursuit lol. Was thinking maybe the name of the flower itself, either using the flower's genus or species name. Does that sound odd?
I already know who I would like to have create the suit (DTWA won my heart over at FC and her gallery on her personal studio site). This maker is spot on with communication, had improved her skill with time, has no problem collaborating with other suit makers upon request. Her heads are amazing, she's willing to work with LEDs, paw pads are just lovely, and her digitigrade padding system is really superb.
As for an artist for my character reference sheet, I am still debating on this. There was an artist I thought was awesome, but due to current circumstances I can't afford to pay $200 for a ref sheet. I have found a few other artist with styles I like and the options and backgrounds they offer with their sheets. I am not really sure what is a regular going price for a decent ref sheet. I understand that an artist charges what they feel they are worth and their time is worth. I am aware that if I find someones art work i just think will fit me 100% that it will be well worth it to save up if their price range is out of my reach atm. Many of the artist I like are currently closed though.
I am considering the following artist (in no particular order) and awaiting replies back from some of them.

I have been wondering why more suit makers don't include a picture of the reference sheet they had to work from when they post images of the suit they created. I think it would be nice to see this. To see how much artistic talent can span from image to life. I have also been wondering how long it takes somone from start to finish when it comes to creating a character, down to its finally a suit. Researching artist, contemplating species, price, everything really.
So ya, just some stuff I have had on my mind and keeping myself busy with while the little one is sleeping. Didn't really know where else to post it.

FC, Funerals, & car wrecks (yes as in the plural)-Frustrated
Posted 14 years agoMy husband and I while at FC received multiple confusing phone calls about multiple family members and their health. Grandfather died while at FC. Grandma didn't look like she was going to make it either for awhile. Then no on was keeping us in the loop on the funeral and funeral involvement.
We were told by my husbands family the funeral could be Friday or Sat. Come Thursday night no one had contacted us. I received a facebook message from his sister asking if I wanted to join her and her daughter at pizza place with my daughter as a play date come Friday. This threw me off. Friday was a possible day for the funeral. I guess it wasn't going to be Friday, but no one had called to inform us of so. Confused, we ended up calling my husbands family to find out what was going on. His family just sucks when it comes to keeping us in the loop and then seems so surprised of what we don't know anytime we meet up. Funeral was planned for Saturday, husband also found out while at funeral he was to be a paul barer.
We got into two wrecks while trying to reach the cemetery after the funeral. The weather went from cold and went to super cold, wet, and then snow. So there was ice and snow on the roads. All the roads in the city we were up in that day are ridiculously steep. We only wrecked because of where we were going to try and stop or crash into so damage would be less severe was not possible do to stupid spectators out on the sidewalk watching all the crashes. We had a choice:
A) less damage to the car and hit a group of people
B) keep sliding down at 5mph down hope for the best
As we could of placed someone in critical/intensive care if we hit them we choose option B. So my husband, I, and 1 yr old daughter braced ourselves best we could. We hit one car and then were able to stop moving. That wasn't the end of it though. It was not safe to get out of the vehicle. we left our seat-belts on, my daughter crying because shes scared in the back alone and watched accident after accident from our side and rear view mirror. We eventually had a large car slam sideways into the back of our truck. The police didn't site anyone which makes sense as it was all mother natures fault. Were lucky the accidents were not any worse. Everyone who crashed walked away not needing medical attention. I think the nim rods out on the street should of been sited as it shouldn't of been the responsibility of the drivers trying to keep control of their vehicle to watch out for them in this mess. One individual was even out recording what he could of it all x_X
Since nothing could be done on Sunday, we tried to take care of all we could Monday as my husband can't rally afford to miss any more work. We received the run around from our insurance company. Rental car place picked up husband an hour later then they said they would. So then we couldn't make it to the Bountiful city police department records before they closed. Apparently they can receive fax, email, or snail mail to request a police report...though an individual can only pick it up in person. We know the report is not done yet, but we really need the insurance exchange information, as we couldn't safely gather that ourselves after the wrecks. Called the records dept and the lady in records just gave me an attitude.
I am grounded to the house till our car is fixed unless my husband and I want to pay an additional 15.00 a day to have my name on the car for the rental period. Not going to happen, we are going to have the rental for at least two weeks. Now good portion of our tax return is going to this instead of the planned bills we wanted to pay off X_x.
I don't have an accurate idea after two weeks for how long we are going to be without my truck, nor how much insurance is going to go up. We were just about to change vehicle insurance and save $500 a yr. Ya I don't have a clue now as to if it will be worth it to change insurances. Today we also had to move our car from the towing shop to the body shop our insurance company works with. We also had to call our insurance adjuster, as our insurance agent doesn't do that for us apparently. The adjuster called us back 4 hrs after we had left her a message then got mad st us for adding insurance to the car we rented. Apparently they pay for that and now she has more paper work to do, so we inconvenienced her.
Someone could of explained our rental benefits before we rented a car, all we were informed of is they cover $25.00 a day. Which helps a little. We had to rent a larger vehicle so we could have a better car for in snow and so Zoe's car seat would fit.'
If you would like to see the crash watch the right hand of the screen at2:40 and just slightly before 5:00

FC 2013- Costume ideas needed
Posted 14 years agoSo apparently next years theme is "The Furbidden Planet! - A Retro Sci-Fi Adventure". I am trying to think of what to dress my daughter as. This yr she was just a lil red panda, nothing to do with the Infurmary theme. I was thinking maybe a monster of some sort...of course fuzzy. I could play with some funny colors and or furs. There are tons of vibrant monster looking furs out there.
If by chance you have a suggestion/recommendation or would love to doodle something and see it come to life, then message me. If you offer actual reference art for me to consider and I decide to choose your creation, I will most definitely pay for the artwork prior to commissioning an individual to bring the outfit from paper to reality.
Thanks for your help if you are able to lend a helping paw.
