ESG COMMISSIONERS, PLEASE READ.
Posted 14 years agoI am sorry to have to do this, but I am not going to be able to complete the work that was commissioned with vouchers. It is a complete mess and sorting everything out is just way more trouble than it is worth. The only exception is if you actually gave me REAL MONEY with a voucher AT THE CON.
Please get in touch with me if I owe you work and you paid me in cash at the con.
Sorry!

An apology/note to commissioners/etc.
Posted 14 years agoHey guys.. for those of you that I owe anything, I apologize for the lack of contact I have been giving you all. I struggle pretty heavily with organizational issues, and the more I owe the more stressed out I get about it.. so sometimes I kind of hide in fear until I get the guts up to face what's going on. I have not forgotten about any of you.
For voucher commissions at ESG, I had a problem at the con (my own fault completely) and I havn't yet been able to redeem the vouchers for money. This has put a temporary kink in the situation.
I plan to make an owed commissions spreadsheet here today and post it once it's finished.
Also, if you need to contact me regarding something I owe you, please email me instead of noting with "commission" in the title of the email so it doesn't just get lost in everything.
Anyway, I havn't been doing a good job keeping in touch and I am really sorry for that. I will, once again, be doing my best to clean up my act.

Question about porn/adding favorites.
Posted 14 years agoAre there any of you out there that will forgo favoriting an awesome g-rated or tame image because the user that uploaded the work has a gallery full of mostly porn? I'm sure my sample here is going to be biased because a lot of you are here for the dongs, but I am curious because I want to know how I should proceed with uploading art in the future (since I have a separate account that is supposed to be squeaky clean).
Thanks!
Edit: To clear things up, I am not insinuating that any of you just favorite porn for porn's sake :). I just wanted to know if there are people that would rather not favorite the work of an artist that uploads more porn than anything else X)
Thanks!

Elliott's Spring Gathering
Posted 14 years agoJust wanted to make a formal announcement that I will indeed be at Elliott's Spring Gathering this year in May. I'll be at an artists table there, so it'll be a good chance to get a small commission from me. I look forward to seeing you guys there :).

I live! (commissions, conventions, fursuits)
Posted 14 years agoHey y'all.
First off I have to apologize for the extended absence. Everything since FC has been a total blur, and the more I have put off dealing with furry life since then, the harder it's been to motivate myself to do so @_@. I am very sorry to those of you that I owe work to that have not been able to get in contact with me since the con. I have set aside time and plan to have all backlogs cleared by AC.
Outstanding commissions:
For those of you that I still owe work from FC (or any time before), please do the following.
Send me an email with the following information:
Email title: Your FA username/Con username and what you are owed.
Email body:
1. A brief description of what I owe you, and any details that may have changed. If you requested one thing and would like something different, please let me know.
2. When you commissioned it.
3. Your address if the item is real media and needs to be shipped to you.
Emails should be sent to ssirrus at gmail dot com. Please do not send me a note! I will just lose it if you do.
As I said, I vow to have all of these cleared up and off my plate before FC.
Cons:
Unless something beyond my control happens between now and then, I will be attending 2 conventions this summer!
I will be at Elliot's spring gathering at the end of May, where I will be offering small commissions. If you are going, let me know and I will hit you up!
I'll also be attending AC for the first time! I will have work in the show and may sit in at the artists alley once or twice, but will otherwise be floating around. Let me know if you want to hang out there too!
Fursuits: Just as a quick bit of information for prospective buyers, I am currently working on Beau ( http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4231385/ ). I plan to have him done by AC, but whether or not I sell him before or after the con is up in the air. He is built to fit someone roughly 5'10-11 and probably up to 170lbs or so. I am willing to do minor alterations. If you are currently interested in making an offer, please send me an email at ssirrus at gmail dot com.
ANWYAY! I will be sparse for a little while, but hopefully I can start getting some more art up here soon. I hope you all are well, and I will see you around <3

Shopping for a DSLR. Help!!
Posted 14 years agoHello lovelies.
As the title says, I really want a DSLR.. but I am totally retarded about cameras and I have no clue what to look for.
I've been waffling between canon and nikon.. I'm not really sure what the differences are, so please let me know!
I was considering buying one from craigslist, but I've been warned against that and it seems like it might be a good idea to spring the extra cash so that I have a warranty and everything.
Is there a specific lens I should get? I know that many dslr's come with one, and I have been told that the ones that come standard with the lower end cameras aren't very good.
I can't spend TOO much. I am still a poor college student, and anything too far over the $700-800 range is kind of out of the question (assuming that it is possible to get a good camera for this much.. if not, I'll wait and save up).
OMG help. There are so many options :/

FC2011 and Elevatorcon: The facts!
Posted 14 years agoHi guys!
Back from FC and finally caught up on sleep. I effectively spent the last 2 days having my own super-nap-con, and I can finally say I feel rested.
FC was AMAZING this year, and I have everyone that I saw there to thank for it! Thank you to everyone that dropped by my table, and fist bumps to everyone else I ran into! I plan to run my table a little differently next year.. hopefully allow for more commissions for more people since I was booked almost immediately this year @_@.
It was awesome partying with all the people I got to see again, and for those of you that were there and I missed, I am sure we will have another chance next FC!
I'm gonna keep this short since my brain is still a little gone, but I wanted to thank everyone for their support (financially (as in buying commissions or artshow work) or otherwise), their friendliness and kindness. It was so nice to be able to see everyone again <:).
ANYWAY, I am taking a couple of days of break from the internet, and then I will be back to respond to notes and email! Until then, caio X3
Onto elevator con! I am hearing crazy rumors floating around, so I figured I'd give you guys the facts (if only to cull the drama slightly).
1. The reason the elevator broke was because there were too many people in it. TOO MANY DAMN PEOPLE. 25 to be exact. When I got to the elevator lobby on the 18th floor, an elevator opened up with a bunch of party people inside yelling "come on, get in! get in!". I didn't realize how many people were already on there, and I don't think THEY realized my friends and I were a party of 5 rather than just one or two people. Regardless, in a moment of irrational exuberance, we managed to pack 25 people like sardines into one of those elevators. None of us realized the error of our ways until it was too late. It was too much for the counterweight on the elevator, so basically the motors could not effectively control how fast the elevator was going down.
2. I've heard the word "plummeted" used a lot to describe the way the elevator descended. Whether or not it fell faster than it should have, I can not be sure. What I CAN say is that it did not FEEL like plummeting. However, we did not stop at any floors, something went wrong with the numbers, and we were all freaked out by a sudden jolt as the emergency brakes up top clamped down on the lines and the elevator came to a sudden stop. Regardless, nobody in the elevator felt a horrifying moment of panic as the elevator "free-fell" or anything. Things seemed mostly OK until that jolt at the end.
3. The rest of the story is that we were stopped about 4 or 5 feet above the lobby level (if we pried open the internal doors, we saw about 40% concrete, and 60% lobby external door) and the firefighters could not figure out how to open the external doors to get us out. I assume they were doing their best to keep from BREAKING the elevators, so they ended up calling the elevator company to figure out how to open the doors without ruining them. All in all, it took them about an hour to get us out of there (which is funny, because it was really simple once we knew what to do..).
Anyway, nobody got hurt, nobody died, there was not a fist fight, we were not jumping up and down, we did not pull the emergency stop because we thought it would be funny. It was simply a moment of being too excited that put us into the situation. Everyone in there did pretty well, and I was PERSONALLY just fine. It was just another wonderful FC adventure :P
So yes. I just wanted to post this so that people can relax and stop spreading rumors about it XD. Just remember, never get into an elevator that seems too full, no matter how drunk you are..!

dj_mixer gave me a really awesome scanner to use, so I went through and reuploaded all the scans for my FC art for this year. You can get a much better idea of what they look like now :3.

AHH FC STUFF :D :D :D
Posted 14 years agoFirst of, yes, I will be there!
I have a table with
therghu in the dealers room :D. I will be offering the following:
Ready-made items:
• A selection of original sketches, transfer images, and unfinished work (much of it hasn't ever been posted online). Prices will vary from piece to piece.
• 8x10 signed, high quality prints on 100lb cardstock of the work I have done this year (I got them done today and they look GREAT omg). These will be 1 for $10, 3 for $25.
• A selection of older prints at a reduced price (probably $6 a piece, or 3 for $15. ) Selection is limited to what I have in stock, but the selection goes all the way back to 2006.
• The rest of my husky pathtags (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3870594/). $8
• A CD-R full of sketches from my sketchbooks, unfinished art, unposted work, ooooold art, and the entirety of dogland. These CD's will be made on the spot per your request, and I will do a custom drawing on the front of the CD for you. I will be selling them for $15. It will likely be the only chance to see this particular body of work.
Commissions:
Custom artwork this year is going to be limited to small works, nothing too big or complicated. I am thinking of offering:
•"Tag badges". Tiny portraits on the little round metal edged tags you often see used to label keys. These will be $8
• "Two-word postcards". I did these back in the day.. you basically give me two words, and I draw for you on a postcard sized piece of paper what it makes me think of. These will have simple color, and will be $15.
• Simple badges. These will be standard badge size, but quickly done. Therefore, they will be much less expensive than a standard badge from me. Will probably be $25 or $30.
• $5 surprise. The name says it all. You give me $5, I give you a surprise (drawing! Not that kind of surprise, you sicko!).
• If you find me when I am drunk, I will do a drunk commission for you. These are always awesome, and I will charge from $5-15 depending on what you want.
There is a chance I will offer some sort of larger sketchbook work, but we will see.
Even if you don't plan on buying anything from me, PLEASE come say hi! I would love to meet you guys, and my table will likely be the easiest place to find me. I won't get mad if you come to my table just to shoot the shit (as long as you don't block the flow of people that want murry dogs drawn for TOO long). It will be fun!(But really, you should buy stuff just because it's the American way to consume, CONSUME, CONSUUUME!)
Other stuff; some notes about the hyooman behind the dog mask.
I'm not really a fan of laying out the social do's-and-don'ts that apply to me at con, but there are two things that have been an issue in the last few years that I want to address just so you guys get a better idea where weird behavior from me might be coming from.
The first thing about myself that I have to make you guys aware of is that my ability to remember faces/names is just HORRIBLE. Frankly, my memory overall can be just awful. I am just trying to warn you guys that even if I have met you, I may not immediately remember who you are, and if you tell me something we did together I might have trouble recalling it. Please, please, please, for the love of god do not take this personally! It is a problem I have that can be extremely embarrassing, it is not that I don't like you enough to remember you :P.
On a somewhat similar note, my reactions to my surroundings differ greatly from one moment to the next. In situations like conventions, I often find myself very overstimulated and overwhelmed, which can cause me to withdraw socially. I really like meeting people and talking, so please feel free to come up and say hi to me, but please don't take it personally if it seems like I am dismissing you or ignoring you. Sometimes (a lot at cons) I just get social overload and I turn into a shy, awkward, bumbling and confused individual. Please excuse me for these moments, I cannot help them X). Also, I beg of you, if it seems like I really want to be left alone (will not make eye contact at all and mumble a lot), please give me some space for a while. This is a sure sign that I am feeling overwhelmed and just can't rock social interaction. I will probably be more friendly at another time <3. Also: Booze ALWAYS helps!
That is really all you need to know!
ANYWAY, I WILL SEE YOU GUYS THERE!! I am more excited for this con than I have been for one in YEARS. WHEEEE!! Now, back to work! *whipcrack*

e-cigarettes?
Posted 14 years agoSo, I've all but quit smoking cigarettes in the last few weeks, but the new years party I went to was a strong reminder that certain activities make it extremely difficult to stick to a no smoking rule. In an attempt to solve this problem, I'd really like to purchase an e-cigarette so I have something to occupy my smoking needs at parties and the like. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find any good honest reviews on what the best brands are. I like the idea that the Blu brand has where they have a "pack" that comes with t that serves as a charger, but I don't know if any other brands have that.
So! Have any of you had experience with e-cigs? What brand do you like?
ThAnks in advance for the input!

Posted 14 years agoI generally try to keep my emotional baggage off of this site but... man I'm feeling bummed out today!
I'm struggling with my own art. I have such a hard time living up to my own expectations that it's tough most days to even pick up the pencil. I am so sad when I'm not making art, but I'm so frustrated with my own art that I'm having a really difficult time doing the things I need to do to improve.
How do you guys deal with this? I know that when it comes down to it one of the only answers is to keep drawing so I can keep improving... but easier said than done.
Thanks for listening <:')
I'm struggling with my own art. I have such a hard time living up to my own expectations that it's tough most days to even pick up the pencil. I am so sad when I'm not making art, but I'm so frustrated with my own art that I'm having a really difficult time doing the things I need to do to improve.

Iron artist?
Posted 14 years agoI havn't really looked into it too much, but I'm tempted to start/complete the iron artist challenge for 2011.
How do people generally run these? Has there been a limit to how much artists can charge per image?
Also: How many of you would be interested? :D How much would you be willing to pay and for what amount of work?
That is all!

Dogland + sketches art CD? A survey:
Posted 15 years agoIf I were to release an art CD at FC that had the entirety of the dogland sketch book (~60 pages, you can see some of them in scraps) plus a collection of unseen sketches/work, would anyone be interested?
How much would you pay for something like this?
How much content would there need to be to make it worth it to you? I don't draw -a lot- so I don't know how much I have to show.
Are there any features/perks that would make you more interested? Anything that would make you less interested?
Thanks in advance for the feedback :3

Furry WoW guilds?
Posted 15 years agoWhere are the murry purry guilds at?
Let me know what kind it is too.
thank you!
Edit: Actually, let me rephrase: I am not specifically looking for a furry guild. I just don't plan to be playing for TOO long, but I want to be able to hang out with cool people while I do play! So let me know if you have a guild that is full of cool people and somewhat active (and also room for me and Rotor!). You can send a note if you want X)

...French horn players?
Posted 15 years agoOMG totally off topic but:
Forever ago (back in Highschool) I played French Horn and loved it to death. I want to play again, but renting is more expensive than I expected and.. well, they are not cheap.
MY QUESTION IS: Have any of you played a double horn and a single? I played double (with thumb valve), but I really don't know what the difference would be when actually played. However, single ones are about half as expensive.
Thanks!

Wow, and.. Friday streaming!
Posted 15 years agoI just painted icons for 12 hours straight (with mini-breaks between them). Though I am left feeling entirely exhausted, I feel like pushing through taught me a LOT. It feels so good to get completely absorbed in making art.
So yeah, like this journal says, I'll be streaming tomorrow. Unfortunately, I'll probably only be going a few hours. There will be a post when I begin!

Icon commisson information. IMPORTANT!!!
Posted 15 years agoSo, before I start streaming today, some important information!!
The idea for these was originally that you needed to be there to get an icon done for a stream. I realize though, that some of you live in a different time zone and simply can't make it. If your name is on the queue and you will not be able to make it to a stream, I can do your icon at another time and have you pay me when it is completed.
Part of the reason I do these streams the way I do is so that I don't get overwhelmed with a backlog of items people have already payed for and I haven't finished. This is really hard on me and makes it a lot less simple for me to get commissions done. That being said:
PLEASE DO NOT PAY ME UNTIL I START YOUR ICON IN STREAM OR NOTE/COMMENT AND TELL YOU OTHERWISE.
Also If you are on this queue and don't mind if I do your icon when you are not there or expect that you won't be able to make it to a scheduled stream, please comment here and let me know Please leave references and a description of what you want n the comment :)
Lastly If you are on this list and have an asterisk by your name, it means you've ordered more than one icon or have already gotten one from me.My commission time is very limited, and I would love to give an con to as many people as want one, so please let me know if you are willing to free up your slot in the queue for someone that hasn't gotten an icon already.Had I thought of it earlier, I would have made a 1 icon per person (for the time being) limit. I just didn't realize it soon enough!
Thanks for the patience, you guys! I'm trying to find a way that makes commissions easier on me (create a situation where I am.. more likely to do them in a timely fashion), so bear with me while I iron out the process.

Streaming on Thursday! Icon commission slots ($25).
Posted 15 years agoHey guys. For once I'm going to actually try to schedule a stream so that you guys can plan for it.
I'll be streaming on Thursday from around 1pm to 9 or 10pm Pacific Time. I will be doing icon commissions again like I have for the last few streams. The other difference this time is that you can actually sign up to have one done!
This is how it will work. If you are on the queue, you will wait to pay me until I am actually about to start your icon. I will do them in order of the queue, but if you are not around when I start on your icon, I will move on to the next person. If you show up and have missed your "turn", you'll be put after whatever icon I'm currently working on. I know this might be a little bit confusing, so please feel free to ask if you have any questions.
The only form of payment I'll be accepting is Paypal.
I'll be opening for 15 slots right now. I won't be finishing all 15 on Thursday, but your spot in the queue will be saved for the next scheduled stream.
Opening 10 slots for now. Each icon generally takes around an hour and fifteen minutes, so you can get a rough (VERY rough) idea on when I might be starting yours. I don't know how EFFECTIVE it will be, but if you want a slot later or earlier in the day, you can request that now.

To sign up, leave a comment here, then make sure to have your character references and $25 by Thursday. Start coming up with ideas for what kind of theme or emotion or whatever you want. The more specific you get (ie: looking at their phone and grinning excitedly), the easier it is for me to come up with something that will suit you :)
See you guys then! :)
