Posted 12 years agoi'm dying. stuffy nose, sneezing like mad, and a throat that just won't stay clear. I hate having trouble breathing. It's my least favorite symptom, give me nausea, chills, anything! It took a while to kick in, which is kind of a bummer since my wedding shower is tomorrow. So regardless of my lame symptom filled day, my goal is to clean out the studio so I can get back to work and finish the lone shot glass commission I have.

Know what success really means,different kind of ac review
Posted 12 years agoNow that I am back in Chicagoland I can say that this AC was mixed types of success. It wa successful in that I met lots of new people and picked up a lot I new followers both here and on Facebook. So I want to thank my watchers both new and old. I also developed some awesome new business loyalty among some artists who exclusively came to me or sent their commissioners to me for the high quality 10 mil lamination. I seriously regret not getting all your cards to name you specifically, but regardless I truly am grateful for helping me raise my profile as the furry laminator. This was also successful in that I got to do more commissions this year than the year previous. I do hope some of you are happy enough to become repeat customers, because I enjoyed completing everyone of them.
I am grateful for all the artists that let me art jam with them to complete all these commissions in time as well! So on a relationship view of ac, it was more successful than last year.
Which brings me to the mixed sort of this review. Friday was nuts!!! Like crazy awesome busy, when it usually is a slow day. I am not going to lie, like many other dealers, we had high hopes that the pace would keep up. For some it did. For me, not so much. For being the biggest con of the year, I was not as successful as I really needed it to be on a money front. I'm not sure what the issue was, but I did hear that I was hard to find more times than I was comfortable with. I figured putting my sign 6ft above the table, with purple lights, and a big Lizard lamination banner would do it, but i seemed to blend in some how. I really am open to suggestions to solve this issue and maybe ac needs to look at how the con book is prepared ::shrug::
Less success on the fundage front means some really good news for watchers new and old alike (and anyone else willing to spread news). I will be opening a ladder auction for a set of custom glassware. Details to follow later this evening, but if you wanted to commission me and missed out, I will be extending my commission opening for 1 person and depending on how high it goes I will accept multiple payments over time.

Posted 12 years agoSo yeah... classic me. Try to do something new less than 2 days before the show. It won't be pretty, but there will be an easier way to look at pendants and pick the ones you want.
Shadowlight and I are trying to clean up the table so that I can work on commissions while at the table as well as have room for lamination orders. So there will be a few pendants on display and a binder with group photos of my pendants.

AC Pre-orders closed, You are just going to have to visit me
Posted 12 years agoThank you everyone for keeping me busy the last few weeks. It has helped alleviate Anthrocon stress by sheer too busy to care about how this is going to come together in time. The mantra of AC will be "Don't worry about the how, focus on the now!" Do not be surprised if you hear me mutter this time to time, I'm not bad mouthing you, just trying to stay zen to give you the best commissions and laminations ever! With hopefully increased productivity ::crosses talons::
Now that all the glass dust has settled I can crank out a couple pendants and some other things as well before it is time to pack up the business and hit the road.
Another recap of what you can find at my table:
LAMINATION!! 10 MiL epicness. Getting a commission from another artist? Ask them not to laminate it and come to me for damn hard to break/bend lamination. Make that investment last and come to me first. Got thin laminate that has broken? BRING IT TO AC! I love breathing life back into those old tired badges. So let me repair it. Got thin laminate and it hasn't broken? Come to me for some preventative care where I remove the old and replace it with the best laminate in the furry community.
Reptile lovers and Scalies! DO I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION??? How would you like to own a piece of cobra, rattlesnake, burmese python without any guilt or responsibility? I have snake shed pendants that can be used in an infinite purposes. Too manly for a tribal necklace? These guys can liven up your drab rear window. 3 years and still thriving surviving the coldest winters and hottest summers Chicago can give us (yes we have been breaking records left right and center lately). No ill effect, still perfect. How about key chain fobs? Yep my keys sport a lovely bushviper one. Let me add some gears for one of the most incredible steampunk pieces you can wear.
Commissions! There will only be 10 slots! 10. Once they are full they are full and will only open as I complete commissions. My goal is to be able to take at least 10 every day, but I don't want to be over extended and unable to deliver so I know 10 is a happy number for me.
WHAT CAN YOU GET FROM ME?
Hand etched glass:
$20 Shot glasses
$40 large test tube shot glasses you can wear around your neck
$60 Small science flasks
$100 (base price) large wine decanters. I say base price because I feel happy with doing a single side for $100. The large flasks are going to subjective as I tend to go overboard on these due to the fun factor, so bare in mind these will be extremely limited and you will be joining a special elite that will own these.
$40 painted badges. Despite my earlier confidence, I just can't bare to leave the paint behind... My first love in art and always and forever a calming force in my life. So yes, these will be available.
So come find me at J-19 front and center. The laminator will be running full tilt and I will be etching forever.

Posted 12 years agoSo AC is right around the corner. You want a guaranteed commission from me? This is the last week. Because this weekend I am going to have some time and the week after that will be HOLY CRAP TIME TO START PACKING AND CHECK SUPPLIES!

So last week my flowers got HUGE after the storms that rolled through. And I saw a hummingbird check out my geraniums. and I was like OMG WE HAVE HUMMINGBIRDS HERE! As if our new apartment couldn't get cooler. So I immediately ordered a hummzinger hummingbird feeder and it arrived today. Within 3 hours of setting it up a different hummingbird visited it!!! Can't believe it, and neither can my mate who rolled his eyes when I said there are hummingbirds here. But we both saw the little fellow and I cannot wait to entertain more of these guys (YEAH NEW OUTDOOR PETS)
So to sum up: Hire me or take your chances at AC (I will not open for commissions after AC until MFF pre-orders. You want something for halloween??? GET THEM NOW, at AC, or 1 week after Anthrocon.

Posted 12 years agoI honestly haven't stopped thinking about Anthrocon all week! First my purple highlighted hair came out perfect and should be done shedding in time for staying in the comfy hotel room with the pretty white sheets (I always feel awful when my hair turns anything purple)... You should have seen the back of my neck monday, OMG I was the purple people eater purple. So look for me with the purple highlights and the purple rope lights (totally copying Lagarto, but he recommended I use lights so there).
Oh yeah, did I tell you I'm at J/19?!?!?! LIKE WHAT THE HECK BATMAN AWESOME! About as front and center as it gets without being way more cool like all the bigs on FA. Seriously how did this little dragon with a laminator score this spot?? Oh yeah, purple lights and dentist noises you can't miss me! I'll be etching glass on the spot. No lazer all by hand and ready to go in a few hours for the test tubes. You know you want to see this http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10738728/ in person all lit up in pretty colors.

AC pre-order hand etched science glass updates
Posted 12 years agoI am very happy people are interested! I still have a few slots left open. If you want a flask your best bet is to pre-order it. I am bringing a limited number of them as they take up more packing space than the test tubes and shot glasses. If you pre-order I can buy what I need while still in Illinois, make it awesome, and bring it with me to AC to be on display for all to be jealous of! And nobody but me is doing anything this cool at AC.

In addition to test tube racks, I got a deal on some color changing lighted bases that the flasks sit great on! Gotta get some photos if I can find the sexy camera that takes low light photos. Incredible to see the jellyfish all lit up like crazy wild

Finally after 27 years, I have moved out
Posted 12 years agoAnd Boxes boxes everywhere. I have the urge to turn them into a fort... then I remember I'm a grown up and I need to empty these into places in the apartment... Sad dragon
HAPPY DRAGON! I have succeeded in my goals and we are renting an apartment that is technically a condo. The landlord made some nice decisions on the place and I am happy to report all the appliances are working so far (Oven and stove are getting used for the first time tonight), the storage is numerous and very functional, and the walls are painted in something that isn't just white! Expect photos in the coming weeks once these boxes are recycled at last.
HAPPY DRAGON DANCE! I finally have a studio. It is a two bedroom condo and my fiance has agreed that the second room will be my domain for art! Soooo excited and it is coming together quite well, albeit slow damn boxes of numerousness....
Razzberry my Uromastyx lizard also has joined in the move and is enjoying her new digs. Her familiar cage is just too enormous for this place so her less tall cage is getting used until I can afford a home. Bonus is I get to use sand and she has been digging up a storm and basking. Also since this is not an Animal Plastics cage, but rather an old aquarium, she has glass on all sides and has been very observant of me and my fiance. I will catch glimpses of her sneaking looks from the far side of the rock piles.
Also the coolest feature of our place? We have a wood burning fireplace O.o I can't help but feel like this place was meant for two dragons. Top floor, huge balcony for me to sun bathe on in the afternoon sun, fireplace to warm up near while we wait for spring to arrive in Illinois (stop hoarding the good weather Florida and learn to share a bit), and we came in underbudget. Now I get to pay bills like a normal adult, work on art projects without fear of judgement, and feel so very free at last of my parents problems so I can focus on my own problems.
Just thought you all might like to hear this update and I hope this summer will be filled with lots of new art

Hello from almost buffalo New York. Huricon ff update
Posted 13 years agoI survived fur fright to be thrown head first into Sandy's tantrum. Our flight home was canceled, so we are driving halfway across the country officially starting in Boston! Once we were out of Massachusetts the weather was pretty tame till the second half of New York. It's a hurricane alright. Finally found a rest stop with an outlet and wifi so we can check the map and recharge the phone.
We are cruising in a lovely Chevy Malibu. It's running like a champ and staying relatively stuck to the road. I don't think my little accent could manage this storm without getting blown off the road. So kinda glad we flew at least one direction.

Migrating to fur fright time! And dragon thoughts
Posted 13 years agoI always wondered, do other dragons feel the itch to take wing when geese fly by? I know this is the hardest season for me, cuz the critters are fleeing the cold for warmer weather. I have a long enough commute to and from work with lots of farmland. So I frequently see geese landing, leaving, or milling about. I get so jealous especially when snow is in the forecast.... So fur fright has come at the perfect time. Originally we planned to drive the whole way, but my fiance's parents decided that 17 hours of driving is too long to be safe. So they covered half the cost of flying! Which puts us even with the cost of gas and tolls, plus you can't beat 7 hours of travel to 17!!!!
So I'm flying out in about an hour weather pending. I actually somewhat dislike airplane travel. You'd think a dragon is at home in the air, but it isn't me flying the plane, there's now wind in my face, I can't feel the clouds and the shape of the currents... So I get nervous, mostly at take off cuz to me that is the weirdest feeling in the world!

Hello from Arizona and a much needed break

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and words over the last few weeks. It still hurts. My cousin Mike was one of the few people I knew for their entire life. He was super cool and was the cousin who in my mind never would look a day over 13. Well of course until he moved to colorado to pursue his taxidermy career and when he came back, yep he was a grown man, hunting cougars and elk, fishing big freshwater fish.
Damn, 23 years old. I am so grateful that my family is so close. I am so grateful I saw Mike a bunch of times every year. If you are not close to your families, maybe mine in an anomaly... but I can name everyone of my cousins and their children, I see the massive hoard of 45 people just on my mom's side every christmas and most of them every thanksgiving. I guess it helps that though I live in chicagoland, they all live around the same part of wisconsin.
Wedding planning is going well, we officially have a date September 28th, 2013, a church, and a reception venue! Wooohoooo. It's time to start putting together a guest list and I am only now realizing how much smaller and detached my fiance's family is... and it is just so very sad. When Mike died there were people that came all the way from Colorado and Canada for him, there was not a single person from my family that was missing including the great aunts and uncles I have seen only a few times.... If someone died in my fiance's family, how many blood relatives would show, would they move mountains to come together and heal? The reason I wonder is when planning this wedding there are a number of relatives that shouldn't come and a number that wouldn't come. It's such a bizarre thought for me to have relatives you don't want to see and to have relatives that don't really care about each other. My soon to be in laws went to the east coast for an event and thought to visit some relatives. They tried to get some of them to join them for dinner and well... yeah they just don't care for each other quite like my family. It's weird, it's something I will need to get used to, and at least my family have adopted my fiance's parents whole heartedly.
Back to a better topic. I AM IN ARIZONA AND IT'S SUMMER!!!!!! OMG you have no idea how much healing some 110 F temps can do for this dragon. My heart is filled with joy, I have escaped the worst allergy attack I have had in almost a decade (thanks to record breaking high mold counts), and I am finally getting my tan on! the heat feels soooooo goooooooood! Sure it's been a hot summer in Chicago record breaking, but for this dragon, I am happiest at 100+ degree temps with a nice little breeze. Admittedly I have no interest in living here, it's amazing to visit some true summer, and it would get old eventually, but ahhhhhhhh this is so relaxing and calming and rejuvinating after one hell of a last month filled with tragedy, loss, and disappointingly pathetic sales at shows (where I was hoping to find an ego boost).
I'm on break from conventions until Tinley in October, followed by Fur Fright (if I get an artist ally table), followed by Sewerfest November, and MFF of course.
Then 2013 is going to be interesting (of course if the mayans weren't right about doomsday and all). I will be planning a wedding, standing in the wedding of one of my bestest of buds, and then having my own wedding (YIKES) So one thing is for sure Anthrocon is on the table (I need that money to pay for the wedding) MFF would be dumb not to do also. But I guess I should finish this con season first before planning the next huh?

The first true tragedy in my life, losing a loved one
Posted 13 years agoalways love each other, always visit family and tell them you love them, always take the moment to grab a picture of all the people you love smiling. So that when you lose a loved one sooner than any person should ever have to die, you know you must be hurting a lot less than you would be had you not taken a moment to say how awesome it is that they are in your life. Goodbye Michael, you will always be my cousin and my inspiration. Thank you for inspiring me to follow my heart when it calls me in a direction and to take an art form places it never went before. Thank you for telling me I had something really cool going for me and I am sad that you won't be here on earth to watch me reach the level of recognition you commanded in your craft. I am just so very very sad.
