Any Slayer Fans out there? Kerry King Autograph Pendant
Posted 13 years agoI have a large (2") circle pendant up for grabs with the best offer. You will get your choice of shed and color for the front. The back is black and signed in gold ink. Please pass on this message, I'm just a few hundred dollars short of my goal down payment.
If there is enough interest I'll post the pictures and start up the auction, but I have a feeling my watch list isn't all that fantasticly large.
For those who don't know, Kerry King is a HUGE herp fan and breeds his own carpet pythons. He was a really neat guy to meet and talk about his amazing animals.

State of the reptile nation- The Python Ban Passes
Posted 13 years agoSo Tinley NARBC Summit was this past weekend. Huge success for me and my pendants, Huge success for creating new organizations to handle the problems associated with this ban, Huge success for raising money for USARK and PIJAC.
Bad news folks, Burms, yellow anacondas, and both African pythons are now added to the Lacey Act. As of Friday the 23. These species cannot be moved out of state, they cannot be shipped out of state, But they can be shipped internationally if you live in a state with a designated port of entry and the snake leaves directly from the country not touching down anywhere else in the US.
How do I know this? I get involved. The media isn't covering this info, but reptile summits are. It is crucial information that I think is missing from the furry circuit.
We all left asking, now what do we do??? The answer is BE PATIENT and Sign Up For USARK e-mail updates from USARK.org. Like I mentioned earlier, new organizations were born over the weekend and in a couple weeks we will have more info. Likely a class action lawsuit will be filed against the USGS for publishing a bad research paper, using it to fuel a python ban, but denying us the ability to go after it with the quality of information act.
Why do Legislators hate snakes? Honestly, they don't know better. This paper comes out saying that pythons in Florida are breeding, raccoons and marsh rabbits are on the decline, any there are millions of snakes on the march up to the Ohio Valley because a python in Burma was found in the mountains where there was a cold temperature and there for anywhere with those temperatures are at risk of pythons becoming an invasive animal. What the paper doesn't account for is pythons are not the only species invading the everglades dangerous invasive animals such as cats, dogs, and humans are also playing a role in the everglades and it is just plain terrible science to cherry pick stats to drive legislation.
What am I going to do about it? I'm working on getting a panel at Anthrocon to give information critical to the Furry world. I know there are a number of folks out there with these banned reptiles, and heaven forbid any of those furs be in the military and are transferred to a base out of state. That pet python they have had for years can't go with them. There are a number of furries out there suckered in by the sad puppy commercials from the Humane Society... And they have given money to an organization where 90% of the money brought in pays for the salaries of the Executives, and only 1% reaches actual shelters caring for said sad puppies and kittens. USARK put only a quarter of the money raised to overhead. USARK was the most successful animal activist grassroots organization last year in terms of effecting legislation.

Controversy: PETA and HSUS verses Reptile Nation
Posted 13 years agoMy friend and VP to the Chicago Herp Society wrote some very good articles that should be read:
http://www.kingsnake.com/blog/autho.....-Cindy-Steinle
In a variety of states there is a push from Animal Rights groups to eliminate reptile trade and ownership. Perhaps it's because many of them eat warm fuzzies, I don't know, but I do know that as a whole reptile keepers don't seem to rise up quite like others would if suddenly legislation came rolling through to ban ownership of dogs.
What has happened is USARK. At first I felt that USARK would be our big voice against other very big voices. On the contrary, it has incited followers to send threats, angry messages, and general unpleasantness to political figures involved in these bills. "Ban a Congressman, not a python" might be something you have seen floating around Facebook or other social streams if you follow other people in reptile nation. THIS IS NOT THE WAY TO DO THINGS!
What this achieves is furthering the belief that snake keepers are weird angry people who keep creepy animals. What we all should be doing is looking at why keeping our reptile is important to us. "I keep them because they are cool" isn't going to cut it. The politicians want to know why you have to keep a snake, why not a dog or a cat or something normal. I have given mine some thought.
I keep Raspberry my Uromastyx because I like feeling closer to a natural world I cannot visit. I enjoy observing her behaviors and interacting with her on a daily basis. She is a great pet in that she doesn't make a lot of noise, doesn't smell, and the care is much simpler than it is with my cat. I love my cat, but Razz still looks like her wild brethren, when my cousins come over they have never seen anything like her! She's a vegetarian, she stays under a foot long. Do not ban her because she falls under the blanket definition of exotics that are not a domesticated species.
Why do you keep herps? If you aren't aware, all boas and pythons were slated to be added to the lacey act (AKA it is a felon to keep your ball python because it's an invasive species that puts the nation's public and wildlife). That got killed, so HSUS and PETA are trying to do this state by state. They are using an event in Ohio to state that reptiles are dangerous to the public. This was a case of poor husbandry where a large snake got out of it's unlocked cage and killed a child within the house. All exotics are slated for banning in Wisconsin. All boas are on their way to being banned in Illinois.
Follow up with your herp societies, get involved, write intelligible and polite words to your congress representatives. Do ask them where they stand on the issue of reptile ownership. If they don't know tell them that you would like to vote and support a politician who would support your ability to own and keep snakes.
Also, know where your money is going... The Human Society of the United States (HSUS) does NOTHING to help animals. Fact, they made a huge fundraising effort for the animals effected by Katrina. They did a great job getting those animals to shelters, and footed the bill onto the shelters completely. It took the Attorney General getting involved to force HSUS to actually use the money they collected for the purpose it was collected. So for the love of god don't get suckered by the OMG sad faced animals in the Humane Society commercials they are scammers...

BADGERS ARE GOING TO THE ROSEBOWL!!!
Posted 14 years agoMy parents went to University of Wisconsin, I have been a badger fan forever, even if I didn't go to U Dub. May my birthday month be especially merry with a Badger win in the Rosebowl and a Packer's Superbowl
Yeah you heard me Go Packers!
Yeah you heard me Go Packers!
Hey all, sooooo um fursuit
Posted 14 years agoHey all MFF was great! I picked up a director's choice award from the Art Show for my antler dream catcher which was a HUGE surprise, and it SOLD FINALLY!!! Busy busy in the dealer's den and finished up my commissions from Anthrocon. They should be scanned by sunday and sent to their prospective owners... which means I can work on my MFF stuff. Which should go much faster now that my new job is settled, the mayham in the house from my sister's wedding is about gone, and I now have a better system for getting artwork done in my house.
But I am sure MFF wasn't what drew you in here. I've finally done it... I'm getting a suit. It will be done by http://www.furaffinity.net/user/fenrirschild/ which I am super stoked about! Now the big surprise, it's not going to be my dragon. Truth is I don't think I would be able to be happy with anyone's interpretation of Sssage... and I would nit pick the hell out of it. Soooo I decided to go a different route.
http://www.buysellreptiles.com/imag.....0_sungazer.jpg
I'm getting a sungazer partial! This will come with a resin cast head with moving jaw, long sleeves, and the ubber awesome armored tail. Better yet, it's not going to be made with fur but rather fleece!!! I've got a good body, no sense in hiding it under foam and fur.
There are a number of reasons I've wanted a suit that isn't my dragon.
For one Sssage really personal and it isn't something I am willing to trust another artist to do right, and it's a seriously expensive investment, so I would end up a nightmare commissioner for the artist. It would involve many many revisions... yuck and stress for both me and the artist
Sungazers are really cool looking with all the armor, horns, and spikes. And there aren't enough scalie suiters out there that aren't dragons or dinosaurs. So how about something Bad Ass with spunk and attitude.
And I want a piece of art that is driven my the artist and not so much by my own ideas. A lizard made from fleece was on Fenrir's want to make list. Giving lots of artistic control away feels less stressful on me, and I know I will be happier with the outcome than trying to match my dragon to a suit form.
It also has applications for outside the furry community. I'm a member and active volunteer for the Chicago Herpetological (reptile and amphibian) Society. It has been brought up throwing me into a frog mascot suit if the society had one. Mainly because I'm the youngest and newest board member which means they get to tease me with never going to happen threats. But even still, why not have someone in suit, it would bring more attention to the society, be inviting to get folks to stop and get a photo and take a business card for the society and maybe join and help raise funds for the many many grants we give out. That is something I can't do with Sssage the dragon. Well I will now have a Scaliesona... which means I need to start thinking about a name and persona.
Approximate start time is January, so happy birthday to me for that :)
So yeah, getting a suit, it's going to be awesome and hella complex, and it will be worth my money for both my enjoyment, the society's enjoyment, and I'd love to be an attention whore once in a while while I hide behind a mask and be someone else for a time. I mean I shouldn't need a mask to break out of my antisocial dislike of strangers and try something new, I shouldn't be so self conscious about my appearance and my acne or being nearly the heaviest person in my immediate family. I'm tall and I am thin, but having super thin and fit parents and sister doesn't help too much. I shouldn't need a suit to cast aside the few things I am unhappy about, but perhaps it can help bridge a gap and allow me to safely practice being out going, casting aside my fear that I am being judged by everyone, and feel like I am cool and fit in somewhere.

Today my sister is getting married
Posted 14 years agoI cannot express how happy I am for my sister as she embarks on this grand adventure in her life. The ceremony will be gorgeous, she will be gorgeous, and the whole family has come together to celebrate this big moment.
Even though she has been moved out for a year, something about today makes me feel like I will lose my sister. I guess it's kind of final but she won't be going anywhere and will still be around. I guess I'm nervous about the evening, hoping I wont trip, hoping even more that she doesn't trip.
I am also hoping that Myles and I will enjoy the evening together despite me being at the head table and he among family. Wish us luck

Snake shed Pendants for Charity, looks like dragon hide
Posted 14 years ago:( need more snake sheds and more time, also anyone want to commission a shed pendant/key chain charm?
[edit] I am out of blackhead python and Ethiopian mountain viper
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6174109/
SPECIAL $30 for the large 2 inch beasts, $20 for the sensible 1 inch awesome. Take off another $5 if you send me a snake shed you'd like me to use. Send only dry sheds in a breathable paper envelope.
I got burm, carpet python, and black head python. Costs an extra $5 for some of the venomous sheds (black cobra, gaboon, timber rattlesnake) I'm setting up for a batch and I could use more to create a good batch. Pick your shed and a color you'd like the pendant to be. These are collected from a very large public collection and 10% of all these sales is donated directly toward their care.
http://s112.photobucket.com/albums/.....0shed%20types/
Here's an album of the sheds and examples
There are state laws that will prevent ownership of timber rattlesnake. I am from Illinois, it is legal for me to obtain sheds from a captive collection and legal for me to sell said sheds from a captive population. It is illegal for me to use sheds collected from the wild.
I found a nice summary here, check your specific laws though
"Although not federally listed as Threatened, the Timber Rattlesnake is recognized
as imperiled throughout the Midwest. It is listed as Endangered by the states of Indiana
and Ohio, and Threatened in Illinois and Minnesota. Timbers are classified as non-listed
Protected Wild Animals in Wisconsin, and receive no special protection in Missouri,
though all herpetofauna is protected against indiscriminate killing in Missouri. The
Timber Rattlesnake is not protected in Iowa, as Iowa law specifically states that Timber
Rattlesnakes shall not be protected. Outside of the Midwest, status varies, with many
states in the northeast offering legal protection and many southern states affording no
special protection to Timber Rattlesnakes. Experts agree that the Timber Rattlesnake
is in trouble throughout most of it s range. However, the fact that it is large and
poisonous may preclude federal protection. "
You may now return to your irregularly scheduled FA status updates

weeee Commission time! Now to get the pile done
Posted 14 years agoHey everyone. Anthrocon was awesome. Planning for my sister's wedding has been NUTS! Well I'm all caught up on wedding stuff and the wedding dress is out of the house, which means the paint can come out of hiding!!! So I've got all my non-paint badges done. I survived my first Anthrocon
Posted 14 years agoAnd I would totally do it again, just as we did it! This was again a major learning experience and I have figured out what sells, what I can accomplish at my table, and will definitely limit the number of things behind my table art making wise.
Snake charmer pendants were a big hit, not completely overwhelming, but I made some sales, got some custom orders, and lots of compliments. I think I will name them dragonskin pendants in the future, who knows, thoughts anyone?
I made SOOOooo much money and that is a huge thanks to Lagarto. I have essentially purchased his laminating franchise, which seems to be a huge relief off his shoulders. I can't speak for him personally, but I think he was absolutely correct his leather business keeps him far too busy to maintain the laminating business, and I must say I am eager to find myself equally busy in the future.
Sooooo Lagarto Laminations are no more, Sssage needs a business name for the furry world. Herpaintology is great at reptile breeder shows, but the pun seems completely lost on the furry world.
Taking a huge tip from D, and I am getting a proper tote that the union teamsters can't break (yep they broke stuff). Also totally table splitting with lagarto in the future, I like his idea of getting a couple more tables so we can spread out and stuff :) I also agree with rukis, if I want to sell anything in the art show I need more dog penis

Saturday: Hopefully the phoenix will be done and I can pick that up, wrap last pendants if the resin hardened. Hopefully get with my buddy for the printing. Get Rainy and Jak's new cage squared away ~DONE it's purdy. (get black thread)
Sunday: lose my mind in ARGHHH SO NOT READY. Pre cut badge paper into manageable sizes for packing and efficiency at the table. Order prescription refill early since I'll run out during the con. Wait for the insurance to approve it now that I'm closer to the end of the prescription. ~DONE

Do final checklist of art supplies that must go, must be replaced, must be sharpened, and condense it into the rolly boxes (Supply check in progress, money still needed)

Program the garmin, print out a map, freak out some more. (getting the car from mom, everything above still unfinished)
Thursday ass crack of dawn: ROAD TRIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Arrive in the afternoon to find D and figure out how to check in and get keys for the shared room. Move into the dealer's room, get set-up, load up artwork in the art show. Get food with D and the gang (hopefully). Gab, catch up, make the appropriate sacrifices to the Furry Con Gods for a safe, profitable, and fun con. Eat cheesecake. Anthrocon To Do List of Woe, and I love my job...
Posted 14 years agoWEEEEeeeeeeeee AC is coming too soon and with a tech challenged mom, getting work done is nearly impossible. But despite the interruptions progress is being made.
It's nearly wednesday and that means I have only 7 working days left D:<

Also I love my job. It's really crappy. I deal with different shit every day that just gets piled up on my work space. And there are some moments where it just looks like shit hit the fan and I get to clean up after it all.
Ok, if you didn't catch the joke, I got a new job as a Med Tech!!!! I run antibody ELISA tests on stool samples. I work with poo :D I thought the smell might bother me, but it really doesn't so much. There are some really noxious ones occasionally but now that I've gotten fast over the last couple weeks, I'm on to the next sample real quick. I truly and honestly love my new job. The procedures are there, I am fully trained now, I am confident, and everyone will help out if you need it. Huge improvement from my last job with no policies in place, no procedures figured out, no staff support when trouble happens, and just plain bad attitudes. With my new job I get improvements everywhere, full time, pay increase, health/dental/life insurance, and my own locker for my purse.
You haven't lived till you've seen poop explode or poop-cano. Most interesting thing found in a sample to date? A lego. Let the fun continue

My car won't start :(UPDATE repair list
Posted 14 years ago[edit] Here's the details of things with the car:
Battery is fine, it's running at 95% they suspect this could be an intermittent problem??
Spark plugs
rear breaks
axle boots
filters
and the oil change and wipers that I originally planned to get done.
WEEEeee. I asked if the prices were negotiable, they said if we did everything they will take off 10%
Grand total (drum roll)
$1116.9 USD thank you mom and dad for being so helpful here. I'll pay them back after AC hopefully
[edit] so dad jumped the battery and charged it for a while. My car finally started. We drove it around the block a few times and she is just fine. We then drove it to the shop we get all our cars serviced at. So depending on what they find, dad might try to talk down the price a bit.
I hate those situations where there is no possible explanation other than spontaneous fail. 7 days ago it ran great no problems, sounds, the car is 10 years old and never had a starting problem. I needed to take the car out today to get some printing done and it won't turn over!!! I hear her try, normal starting sounds, but won't turn over :(
I've been looking online for possible answers and they come back with:
Battery is dead
Alternator isn't charging the battery
Solinoid is corroded
wires are corroded
oil low, shouldn't be, but I haven't checked in a while
no gas (I REFUSE TO BELIEVE THIS ONE) There was over a 1/3 left in the tank and I chart miles instead of relying on the gauge, there's over 100 miles worth of gas left in it. I hate to believe this one but it matches the possibilities so well. Of course its a VW Passat which means I have NO IDEA what the gauge says until the car turns over and is running.
Transmission is blown
Damnit too many expensive things on there...
Dad is on his way home from work, so he and I are going to tackle it as best as possible. I had hoped to go to LARP tonight but out look is not good if I need to help my dad. Sadness fills me...

Scale Pendant commissions-SCALIES LOOK HERE->chance for free
Posted 14 years agoHey guys. I know I have a lot of scalies and reptile lovers on my watch list. So I have these new pendants that I love making and that are a labor of love that deserves to be shared. So I have opened them for commission for $30. This means I will use a snake shed to be the scales and beneath it will be the pattern or color of your choosing. This will look like dragon hide or snake skin without any harming the creatures we love.
Here are two examples

For $30 I will put a couple wooden beads to adorn your scalie inspired piece. If you want snake verts or natural stone please give an additional $5. You may choose the half egg shape or the disk shape, they are 2 inches long and very striking. They are resin sealed multiple times over 3 days to protect it, so you can see why it is a labor of love.
But Sssage, I saw free! Where is the FREE stuff!?
****FREE! FREE!! FREE!!! FREE!!!!**** 22 pimps!!! omg amost there!!!
If you read this journal and share it with your watchers you will be entered for a chance to win a pendant on a leather strand for free! Here is how this breaks down, a dollar per journal with adding the extras along the way!!! Only 1 pimp will be counted per person. But if you make a bunch of pimps over the coming days that will only draw more attention and perhaps more prizes will be given out!! Please comment below with a link to your pimpage, I will keep tally and edit this journal.
****BREAKDOWN ON HOW TO WIN!****
If 30 people pimp this journal out a pendant will be given to one lucky winner
40 means it gets a couple beads
45 means it gets beads and verts or a natural stone
60 means TWO pendants will be given out (there will be two lucky winners 1 for each)
70 means the both will get beads
75 means it both will get verts or a natural stone of their choice
and thus it will repeat
90 means THREE winners!
120 means FOUR winners!!!!
The odds are better than Vegas a 1 in 30 chance to get a pendant! If you decide to pay for a commissioned piece, but also pimp it out, you will STILL be entered into the raffle, and just might WIN another pendant to love or one to give to a friend. So commissioning me is also a great idea.
The winners will be chosen May 12 9pm US central time , that's just a little over 2 weeks!!!
