Stepping down as Admin
Posted 11 years ago
Due to circumstances beyond my control, I am at this time unable to give my full focus and attention to maintaining this group. I haven't updated in a while and neglected responding to people in a timely matter.
Time to let a more responsible person with more free time than I can offer to carry on this group.
If you want to take over the group, either temporarily or permanently, just send me a note about why you should and the group is yours.
Sorry folks,
Who wants some free advertising?
Posted 11 years agoIt's been a while since we last updated our gallery. Who has something they'd like to contribute to our gallery?
Don't forget, we also advertise when you're taking commissions or need immediate support as well. It's what we do.

Posted 11 years agoFor those who have been following, they may have noticed that we haven't been very active in updates.
There's a very good and very simple reason for that: Nobody has needed us.
When our services are demanded, we provide.
You need advertising, we give advertising.
You need advice, we give advice.
Need a partner for a project, we'll find you one.
That's all there is to it. I can keep updating the indexes with supportive information. but for this group to build, expand, and work to its full potential, we need YOU to need US.
Otherwise, we'll be just another icon to splash on your profile somewhere.
Thank you for your time.

Another Art Video Index Update!
Posted 11 years agoIt's been a while folks, how's it going? Hope you are all doing well.
This update added a couple new sections to the index, a miscellaneous sub-category under tips and tutorials, and a completely new category for recommended channels. We also added numerous videos to the list, some in the newly added categories but mostly in the speed painting section where upon recommendation we added both some high-quality digital painting videos and several pixel art videos for those who want something a little different.
http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/5633866/
Next update for the index, we plan to add more traditional art tutorials, so it's a little more varied and not so focused on digital.
Something else we're interested in adding is the more old-fashioned book and non-video tutorial recommendation index. Unfortunately, those tend to be all over the place so who knows when we'll get that up. Speaking of recommendations, Don't forget, we also accept recommendations for both individual videos, playlists, and channels and just about anything really so if you have anything you'd like to share, please do!
Thank you for your time.

Art Index Updated once again.
Posted 11 years agoI altered the formatting slightly while adding numerous new art documentaries to review, including a very inspiring short video by Walt Disney and some of his finest artists at the time, as well as a darker part of art history with the Nazis and their treatment of Modern Art/Expressionism, or as they called it "Degenerate Art" at the height of their power. There's also a link to a documentary on street art and the rise of Mr.Brainwash, who was inspired by famous english Street Artist Banksy.
All of which are excellent videos that deserve your time and attention.
http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/5633866/
Again, suggestions for improvement as well as more videos are much appreciated.
That said, don't forget to check out the previous journal for news on artists currently taking commissions, including one in critical financial straits!

On a different note.
Posted 11 years agoHave you contributed a work to our gallery yet? If not, you definitely should. It's free publicity, a second chance for your favorite or most neglected work to be recognized.
It's not limited to sketches 'n what not, we also support creative written works, sculpture, collages, music, found art, and much more.
Don't feel excluded, we're all artists here.
So go ahead, link a work you'd like uploaded and I'd get right on it. Only one piece per member for now however.
Get to it!

Index update
Posted 11 years agodded some tutorial links to videos by professionals Todd McFarlane, Mark Crilley, and Will Terrel.
I also added a few excellent speed painting videos, including a couple by Eclectic Asylum Art that just may surprise you.
Again, feedback is much appreciated on the format, quality, and choices of the videos.
Don't forget to make suggestions for additions, including your own videos if you have any!

Inspirations and guides for the aspiring Artist.
Posted 11 years agoPosted the first iteration of one of our indexes, the video index which is a collection of videos found by myself and possibly suggested by others to both educate and inspire the self-taught artist with art history as well as contain exhibition videos and tutorials which would be undoubtedly helpful.
Unfortunately, many of the video documentaries are of average to low quality, mostly due to their age rather than the upload itself. Still, if you can find some usefulness out of the videos I've linked to, it's a job well done.
http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/5633866/
If you have any suggestions or contributions to make to this list and others, just say so. Leave a shout, drop a note, let me know what you think!
Thank you for your time.

What we offer here at S-T-A.
Posted 11 years agoDespite being a new group our intentions are to do more than just add an extra icon to someone's profile page. We are a service, a team (Mostly me at the moment) dedicated to helping our fellow artist in need to succeed in places where they may have difficulties doing so alone. From feedback to commission promotion to being a resource index you can be sure that we here at S.T.A. will do everything within our limited ability to aid you in your quest to becoming a better artist.
The first service we offer, as some of our members have already invested into is the Second Chance Promotion. It's straightforward enough, do you have an art piece that you felt that much of your best time and effort was put into but ended up being passed over and forgotten about over time? Maybe you'd like to showcase some of your other abilities that are different from your usual work, like an abstract piece over porn or chibi anime art. Or maybe you just like having a little more publicity? This is what the Second Chance promotion is for, giving your work another means of circulation to gain more recognition.
A second service we offer is the Commission promotion. If you're currently taking commissions and find it difficult to get the word out, we can help with that as well. Every couple of weeks we will post a journal with your icon and commission status again allowing others to find your work and seek your patronage.
The third service, and a unique one I feel is Collab/Contest promotion. Socializing is one of the most important attributes of FurAffinity and we here at S-T-A hold firmly to this. There is undoubtedly at least a few hot-blooded artists who would enjoy an artistic challenge to their abilities while others would rather enjoy finding a fellow artist to work on a project of mutual interest. This service would be undoubtedly useful for those who are suffering from an art block.
Our fourth service is Feedback at various levels of the creation process. It is not uncommon for feedback to be received on an already-completed work, but that can lead to frustration for some artist who only wish to upload already polished work on their page. So, we here at S-T-A are willing to go one step further. Offer us your WIPs through notes or other means of private messaging and we'll offer feedback there. Better yet, if you utilize a streaming service such as Livestream or Picarto we will offer feedback on your work as you're working on it, a convenience not to be overlooked!
When feedback is unavailable or when you are looking to expand your knowledge outside of improving your figures we will also have available a very comprehensive list of quality art books by other magnificent artists, historical art documentaries, and various tutorials from all over the internet for the aspiring artist to build their wealth of artistic competence.
We provide all of these are an artist's personal request. For those who have ideas that we have yet to touch upon, we are always open to suggestions as our group grows larger and more ambitious with each passing day. Our group is all about supporting YOU, the artist. When we fail one of you, we fail the art community as a whole.
We will not fail you, that is our vow.
ST-Artists
Self-Taught Artists Group is officially open.
Posted 11 years agoOn March 26th, 2014, the FurAffinity Group Self-Taught Artists was formed.
Currently there is only one staff member, myself (ViciousTyrant). We're definitely looking for at least one other moderator to monitor and maintain the group in case I become incapacitated though it is not necessary at the moment.
If you're interested in becoming a moderator for this group, send a note here or directly to myself at ViciousTyrant. Make your case as to why you should be allowed to be a moderator and it will be put into consideration.
If you're just interested in joining this group as a regular, then just watch us and put our icon somewhere on your page. That's all there is to it.
Thank you and well wishes!
