More work on my Fiero done.
General | Posted 15 years agoI finally got the window for the driver door installed, the window that I picked up in April! All the plastic things in the glass were attached using big rivets (on the original and the junkyard car). I thought I was going to break the window getting it out of the junkyard car. I didn't have the right tools at the time. I had a glass shop put the window in. Unfortunately I'm still stuck with cheep-o plastic mirror for the door, as the junkyard mirror somehow doesn't have one of the two studs needed to install it. I have a new door panel in place, but it's a horrible silver color, and I can't find the WA-9077 (medium red metallic?) that my car is in Duplicolor. I might try repairing the plastic in the original door.
I have all new felt parts to replace the rotted seals and bumpers that were installed back in 1988. I also went to Lowes and got some 6 mil clear plastic sheet as a water/whatever barrier and used spray adhesive to install that after cutting a few essential openings.
Also installed new locks in both doors and the trunk (keyed alike). Over the last few weeks I've installed new fuel injectors, new vacuum lines, a new flexible EGR tube, new rocker arm cover gaskets, new struts in the rear, new shocks in the front, and steering rack/pinion and inner/outer tie rods,

you tend to get over 10,000 new things to looks through when you're limited to shite internet in Afghanistan.

Narnia
General | Posted 15 years agoSaw it earlier tonight, or course I hope there will be some good (and /bad/ ;) ) artwork of Eustace as a dragon.
I was surprised he wasn't able to speak during his time as a dragon. It's too bad he doesn't get to do that again.

Miles Driven: 6914

I have a whole lot of packages of stuff I ordered while I was away; car parts, movie posters, and a digital audio system I'm going to donate to the highschool. I did an unboxing video, I'll upload it to youtube in a few days.

At the airport waiting for my flight HOME!!
General | Posted 15 years agoHanging out in a hidden little area in some airports known as the USO. It's basically a place for soldiers to hang out with free food and drinks and internet and beds and showers. It's awesome!
Finally cleared medical and admin, got my REFRAD orders and DD214, and gettin on a flight back to Dallas in about an hour.

I'm in Fort Dix, New Jersey!!
General | Posted 15 years agoBeen here for the last few days demobilizing. I'm now on medical hold so I can see a doctor about my back and knee, make sure it's documented and all that.
I also got a new phone :D It's the Samsung Galaxy S (Sprint Epic 4G). It's SCHWEET.
Someone needs to make an Android app for Furaffinity, if there isn't one already.

General | Posted 15 years agoStill in Afghanistan - new submission hell!
General | Posted 15 years agoas of now my new submission count is up to 11229! I try to make headway on it when I can but the bandwidth here is just so pathetic I can't help it. I thought I've done pretty well to keep it towards 10000 but this is crazy.
I'm gonna have to spend at least probably two full days just looking through it all.
Still gonna be in this country till at the earliest mid September, but our work on site is up in less than a week, then I get to look forward to the rest of the time in Kandahar doing completely pointless bull crap and nothing meetings because the company I'm in has no idea how to just do things once, no idea how to give information when it's actually important when it's ready, and no idea how to just let us relax. I'm thankful that the team I'm with on this FOB is great at not making us do stupid unnecessary stuff (or anything at all!) when we're not on shift.
Go JNN Team 7!

In Afghanistan....still.....coming home soon!
General | Posted 15 years agoThank goodness this is almost over! I've got something like 6 weeks remaining in this hell hole.
I've pre-registered for Furry Fiesta 2011, and reserved a hotel room too!

In Afghanistan; going on leave!
General | Posted 15 years agoFinally the time is here to take two weeks off from this stinkhole!!!
In Afghanistan; Shift change and mail.
General | Posted 16 years agoThe last couple of days have been kind of harsh. Instead of my usual shift of 16 to 24, it's been 8 to 20 (from 8hrs to 12hrs and the daytime.) It's hard to go to that, but luckily it's over and I'm resuming my normal shift.
I got some mail last night. They told me about it just as I was drifting off too sleep after too long of a day. I didn't sleep well after that, woke up at midnight then couldn't fall back to sleep for another hour or so. All for a package of new clothing the army ordered for us last week.
I got another package today! A are package from "Any Soldier." I was surprised by this one because it was 'certified'. A big box with LOTS of stamps on it. Had some magazines, a volleyball, and lots of snacks. Care packages are a wonderful thing :D It's not the first I've gotten here, but we all appreciate getting them regardless of what it contains. Our PX is pretty pathetic, a simple shipping container, and it hasn't been open for a couple of weeks due to trouble getting more stuff.

In Afghanisten; Not a good night for sleep!!
General | Posted 16 years agoThey're firing the canons!
They've (I mean we've) been firing the canons for hours now. At first it was a lot, between every few minutes. That was around midnight. Now it's 430am and it seems like there's been one going off now every 20 or 30 minutes.
The things they are firing are illumination rounds, basically flares. Only things fly for about 10 seconds before they ignite,, so they're maybe a mile or two away? Then they float down on a parachute for a good minute or two, and they're so bright that the shadow looks like a good moonlight shadow (from here)(and orange).

General | Posted 16 years agoYeah! I've finally got internet! I've actually had it pretty much the whole time, but since the net I had was army, I wasn't using it for this fun stuff. Now we have wifi on the base, but it royally sucks balls! Hopefully they're gonna bring out more radios and fix the no-connectivity problem they've had since the day they turned it on. I basically have to sit right nder the damn access point to get anything, and it has taken me 20 minutes just to get this loaded.
I've finally hit the 10,000+ mark for unviewed submissions! Time to go!

Fort Lewis, and a crap rifle.
General | Posted 16 years agoThis place sucks. I don't know why it's so hard now, but five years ago it was a lot easier. Back then when I was mobilizing to Egypt, we could rent cars, go off post, wear civilian clothes, etc. They're basically treating us like we're almost in boot camp. We get PX runs occasionally, and we can order pizza. We hardly know what training we're going to get from one day to another.
This is the way they're treating us now as we are mobing to Afghanistan.
I got nearly all my newly issued equipment and clothing. They didn't have the body armor in my size so I'm stuck with an old style IBA until the new one comes in. Not only that, I sucked during rifle qualification. Most of it was genuine dumbassery on my part, but my rifle has a serious issue. It fires two bullets on occasion; once when the trigger is pulled the first time, then again when I release the trigger. They're gonna eventually get me a different rifle.
At least the pay is good, and we have internet in the WW2 barracks they stuck us in. The only other thing I have to look forward to is getting 4 days off for thanksgiving.

New burglar alarm system!
General | Posted 16 years agoMany thanks to the alarm company I used to work for for providing me with an alarm system for my house, and monitoring of it, for when I go to Afghanistan this coming year!
I used to install these things professionally, but not since I moved to Texas.

FIRE ALARM!!!!
General | Posted 16 years agoSo, the second night I'm at the hotel, the freaking fire alarm goes off 2 hours before we have to get up. Constant tone piezo, freakin loud as hell. I first looked up to see if it was the in-room smoke detector. It wasn't. I verified it was the fire thing by covering it with my hand. Damn thing is loud as hell! It turned off after about a minute. According to hotel staff the next day, it was a problem with flooding in the elevator shaft.
New Timelapse video coming soon!

Got a police siren today! A really old mechanical device
General | Posted 16 years agoIt was pretty messed up when I got it, but I spent the day cleaning it up as best I could. I have no idea what brand this thing is. I still need to paint the body of the motor, and I want to do it right so I'm gonna wait till I can afford proper supplies, which will be in a couple of weeks.
One dollar, from a garage sale.
