A message to Democrats
Posted 2 months agoWhat I want out of Democrats is a focus on making the cost of living affordable for everyone — and outlawing all harmful business practices. They need a strong branding — not just reacting against Trump and his lackeys. Maybe something like “freedom and prosperity for all”.
I feel that human rights activists’ main weak point is often marketing strategy, perhaps because “marketing” commonly has connotations of dishonesty and inauthenticity. But good marketing is about effectively conveying the true value of your product — not covering up for lack of value.

Warning about Discord hackers
Posted a year agoSome Discord scams are very believable, and the only way to avoid them is to know beforehand. Here is a warning I am forwarding from Sparky_the_chu’s server:
———
If anyone says any of the following to you in DMs:
- Claims to have accidentally reported you with an image of a Discord support ticket
- Wants you to download their game demo they've suddenly been working on
- Says that typing your password into chat automatically censors it
They're probably hacked, and trying to steal your account too by phishing you. Do not click any links they send, do not accept any downloads, and don't do anything they suggest. Also, do not take screenshots of the chat if they contain any images, as there are some seemingly SFW images designed to sabotage your account as they are flagged by automated content filters. Just report them, and let mutual friends know of the situation if they're not already aware. If they are on your friends list, unfortunately your friend is unlikely to get their account back.
If they:
- Claim that a certain individual on your friend list is able to add themselves onto everyone's list just by existing
It's bollocks and you're more than likely totally safe.

Making Friends -- or Building Clout?
Posted 2 years agoMany people say they want friends. But when you read between the lines, you find that what they really want is clout. When they want to fit in with people who are clearly bad company, it's a sign they don't want real friends. Oftentimes, they simply envy the apparent benefits from being part of that in-crowd.
Therefore, when one says, "Why do you want to fit in with them? They're not real friends?" it's often not the point. The person seeking popularity often has a different set of goals altogether.
In other cases, it's dangerous not to fit in. In this case, whether it's good company or bad is beside the point. And running away is not always an option. The question, then, is this: Do you have moral integrity, and would getting along with a bad crowd require sacrificing it? In many cases, a group will accept you as you are as far as they think you are useful. Being able to thrive in the face of difficult people is the art of diplomacy.
Autistic people are people like anyone else. At the same time, there is some fundamental difference in brain wiring. The way they think is sometimes incompatible with the norms of the surrounding culture (which tends to be neurotypical). Conversely, cultural norms are not universal. When one culture fails to understand or appreciate another, the results can be deadly. Such is the experience of autistic people in the face of a neurotypical culture.
For those who want to be accepted, the golden rule is this: Give people a reason to want your company. What's in it for them? What does the other person want?
Some popular people definitely do not fit into mainstream culture -- especially when it comes to rich leaders. Wealth often helps, but a rich person doesn't build a cult of personality just by being rich. Rather, there's at least one thing they sell that makes many people feel validated -- whether in a good way or not.
Autistic people are often eccentric. The key to fitting in is not to become a normal person. Rather, they should study how eccentric some popular leaders are -- and how such people get accepted despite, or even because, of their differences. Finally, remember -- even the most popular people are not accepted by everyone. You have to pick an audience and learn what they want most.
In the end, social skills are not learned in a vacuum. They are learned by studying real people and interacting with them. And what counts as social skills varies from culture to culture. Having the right attitude is everything. You are a culture of your own, and people will want to explore it as long as something about you impresses them.
Should you want friends, or should you want clout? Actually, the two go hand in hand. Good friends love to please each other. Each tries to be something that the other person wants. That is what caring for one another is about. True clout is about being able to influence other people. Bending over backward to please people who don't return the favor -- that is counterproductive. True popularity means that others love appealing to you.

Times that MLP failed at friendship (Part #1a)

n the original comic, when the CMCs recount their misadventure with Chrysalis, did they momentarily forget to mention the kitties? Or did they not care? This is one of the most disturbing plot holes I've encountered when handling ponies' characters.
If the CMCs are respectable characters, then they just momentarily forgot. In that case, they will remember pretty soon -- and be horrified that they could possibly forget. In their excitement over being saved, this could have plausibly slipped their minds. Also, it could be that the trauma of the traumatic events is a little delayed.

Times that MLP failed at friendship (Part #1)
Posted 3 years agoFrom the MLP comics, the very first story arc haunts me to this day. I feel the artists deliberately dehumanized a race of innocent kitties. I don’t think they meant us to feel bad about the (possible) genocide. For the life of me, I don't see how such writing fits any message of friendship. The following image illustrates what I mean: https://sta.sh/01scbqle9y51.
To be clear – my complaint is not the (apparent) destruction of the kitties per se. It is about the writers – because I feel they didn’t care about the kitties any more than the changelings themselves. The apparent dark humor sends that message to me. To me, it makes “Friendship Is Magic” feel like a terrible joke.
I hate to think that most bronies don’t care about the kitties. I fear I might be nearly alone.
If that’s the case, then I ask, how would the fandom feel if the kitties had worn pink triangles and said “love is love”? Would those fans despise the apparent mockery of homosexuals?
__________
I wish that this story arc would be officially disowned. If I’m not mistaken, the developments in Season 6 effectively discard that arc from the canon. Even so, I wish it would be made official.
Otherwise, I wish there would be a follow-up where the reformed changelings are forced face to face with their true dark past. In the process, they must make up for what they did to that race of innocent kitties.
I’m thinking something like this:
A mysterious race of monsters is attacking Equestria. As Thorax and Pharynx figure out, it’s the kitties the changelings had preyed on. With all love sucked out of them, they have become monstrous shadows of their former selves. And they mistake the ponies for the changelings.
With the Mane 6 down for the count, the reformed changelings must save the day. The kitties are possessed by a literal spirit of hate, seeking to consume everycreature it can. The changelings cannot fight fire with fire. The evil spirit can be defeated only by breaking the cycle of hate.
The changelings are led by Spike, Thorax, Pharynx, and Ocellus. In this case, the Elements of Harmony are not enough (including the Pillars and the Student 6). Instead, love itself must overcome this literal embodiment of hate.
As Spike, Thorax, and Ocellus discover, the changelings must return the stolen love. They figure this out when seeking a path to forgiveness, finding the chance to reach out to a few kitties. Pharynx, meanwhile, must overcome his fear and cynicism.
The kitties are not as bothered by Spike, since he’s a dragon. Therefore, Spike manages to advocate for the changelings – explaining how he made friends with them. For the kitties to receive the changelings’ love, they must let down their defenses – and so must the changelings.

Raising money for more fan art (and my own characters)
Posted 3 years agoI've really enjoyed commissioning fan art of my favorite MLP characters. Any help in supporting this work would be much appreciated!
In addition, I've been developing my own series that features autistic ponies. It's called Starponys: The Spectrum of Friendship. If anyone feels like supporting me, it would help me commission more art to bring my own character designs to life.
Thank you, everyone, for encouraging me to continue these projects of mine!

A court system run by corporations
Posted 4 years agoAs of late, Steven Donziger has been championed as an environmentalist unfairly imprisoned by Chevron. His arrest and conviction were clearly bought and paid for.
It is possible that Donziger was guilty of some misconduct himself. But that doesn't really matter. The court system that prosecuted him is clearly controlled by corporate interests. And he was kept under house arrest for far longer than his official prison sentence.
Below are the key highlights of the story. What happened to Donziger could have happened to the most innocent and law-abiding lawyer. This is what it's like to be a black man accused by a white court.
Mr. Donziger...spent decades suing...Chevron... for damaging the environment and despoiling the Amazon rainforest in Ecuador, harming the tribespeople...there. [1]
Finally, in 2011, an Ecuadorean court ruled in favor of Mr. Donziger’s clients...Determined to avoid paying...[Chevron]...brought a RICO case against him in the United States. [1]
[I]n 2014, Judge Lewis A. Kaplan [a former corporate lawyer [2]] ruled in Chevron’s favor....[H]e...accused Mr. Donziger...of attempting to use the court to extort money from Chevron. [1]
In 2018, after Judge Kaplan’s judgment had finally been affirmed, the company brought another case...[They] wanted him to turn over his computer and other electronic devices....But Mr. Donziger refused...saying it would give...“backdoor access to confidential attorney-client communications.” [1]
When the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York declined to prosecute the case, Kaplan appointed a private law firm linked to Chevron, Seward & Kissel.... [2]
"The judge never disclosed that the law firm had Chevron as a client," [Donziger] said. "So, essentially, I'm being prosecuted by a Chevron law firm, a partner in a Chevron law firm, a private law firm, who deprived me of my liberty." [2]
Misdemeanor criminal contempt carries a maximum sentence of one year. If the penalty is more than six months for this type of charge...a defendant would get a trial by jury....Judge Loretta A. Preska...denied...a jury trial. In July, Judge Preska found Mr. Donziger guilty of all charges.[3] [She] found Mr. Donziger guilty, and sentenced him to...six months.... He was also disbarred. [1]
Mr. Donziger...had already spent more than 800 days under home detention after the court cited flight-risk concerns.... [3]
[I]ndependent United Nations experts...found his court-ordered home confinement of more than two years a violation of international human rights law. [3]

Asking for feedback -- My MLP "Season 11" Project
Posted 4 years agoAs I mentioned before, after reading the Season 10 comics, I've been inspired to propose a "Season 11". In doing so, I'm trying to make a logical and agreeable extrapolation from everything that's come before.
It seems my biggest issues are with Chapter 1, which sets the keynote. I have slightly rewritten it a number of times, but will it still offend too many fans? I would appreciate more feedback!

- Friendship (Ponies)
- History (Zebras & co.)

Dragons - Brotherhood / Sisterhood
Kirins - Community
Changelings - Grace
Gryphons - Fellowship

(SPOILER ALERT) MLP - Ideas for possible Season 11 comics
Posted 4 years agoIn the Season 10 comics, it turns out that five other countries have their own Elements of Harmony. But this truth was hidden for thousands of years. Unfortunately, it turns out that one nation wanted it to stay that way ... the Kingdom of Cunabula.
In Cunabula, their Elements stand for Patriotism. Thousands of years ago, they tried to do basically what Twilight's been trying to do -- spread harmony around the world. But other nations turned their elements against Cunabula. Since then, Cunabula has been trying to make sure this never happens again.
But now the ponies have unwittingly thwarted those plans. And now the "Knights ofHarmony Order" seek to destroy Equestria, along with Twilight and her fellow Element bearers. This is the ponies' most terrifying enemy yet. Since the Knights bear their own Elements, they can hijack the ponies' own Elements!
Up to now, the most malicious villains have also been the most honest about their motives. But this is completely different. These villains are as self-righteous as they are bloodthirsty. They say that what they do is right and fair. That's their concept of loving their country.
Make no mistake: These villains are not monsters altogether different from us. Many times, America has been no less despicable in its foreign policy. Many nations have exhibited this false sense of righteousness -- which is as vile as being openly evil (and in some sense worse).
As it turns out, the Elements themselves can be corrupted. The sense of fellowship needed to trigger the Elements can be highly perverted -- so long as there's a code of honor that just barely resembles what the Elements stand for.
Unfortunately, Shining Armor and his Royal Guard are once again a Redshirt Army. For Equestria's sake, why can't MLP treat him with the same dignity as his own sister and wife? Spike gets more respect than this.
Fortunately, four new nations have become friends with Equestria: Abyssinia (cats), Farasi (zebras, abadas, kelpies), Caninia (dogs), and Ornithia (birds). With their own Elements, they join Equestria with the magic of friendship ... just when Twilight and company had lost all hope.
Ironically, the Knights of Order helped bring together the very alliance they feared! Recognizing their defeat, they retreat and return to their homeland.
Given this context, I propose some ideas for Season 11, if we could help inspire Hasbro to greenlight it. In particular, I hope that these proposals include some of the proper fan service. Here are a couple possible arcs:
Return of the Knights:
The Knights of Order have lost their connection to the Elements of Patriotism. It seems their desire to hate and kill has spilled over onto their own people. Now that they're relatively weak, the Cunabulans drive the Knights out of the country. Seeking refuge, the Knights have the nerve to go to Equestria and ask Twilight for help. Unfortunately for them, there is only one place in Equestria where they're welcome ... and Shining Armor and his Royal Guard are itching for payback! (Twilight and Cadance have also had enough!)
Camp Harmony:
Back in "Season 10", the Knights of Order accidentally offered one good word of advice: Make sure you pass on the Elements to new generations -- and carefully train them from an early age. In this spirit, Starlight Glimmer starts a new program: Camp Harmony! She divides the students up into six camps: one for each Element.
Each of the Student 6 is put in charge of one camp: Smolder for Loyalty, Sandbar for Magic, Gallus for Generosity, Ocellus for Kindness, Silverstream for Laughter, and Yona for Honesty. In addition, there are six new students, which we call the "Younger 6" -- to be mentored by each of the Student 6: a zebra (Sandbar), an abada (Ocellus), a kelpie (Siverstream), a dog (Yona), a cat (Smolder), and a bird (Gallus).
Dividing students into camps, to help each specialize in one Element, looked good on paper ... but is it a recipe for divisiveness rather than harmony?
A Trip to Tartarus:
In the depths of Tartarus, Twilight and Spike visit the Knights of Order. They get to know the Knights a lot better. Twilight and Spike wish they could feel bad for the Knights ... but these monsters tried to destroy innocent peoples who showed nothing but peaceful intentions. Is it too late for the Knights to change their ways?
Twilight plans to spend 40 days and nights in Tartarus, on her pilgrimage to redeem the sixth set of Elements. Meanwhile, Shining Armor tries to substitute for Twilight as the Element of Magic. Moreover, he wishes he and the Royal Guard could finally be a great force for friendship. Where have they gone wrong! he cries.
Armor's cutie mark glows, leading him to the Canterlot Castle. According to the Cutie Map, there must be some sort of friendship problem ... . In addition, the Cutie Map reveals some new far-flung locations ... with the Knights' faces / cutie marks hovering above Cunabula -- plus one other nation.
Dogs and Cats:
The Student 6 are already attached to the Younger 6. Smolder adores her little kitty, and Yona adores her little dog. They have been assigned to help dogs and cats get along -- starting with their own little students. But will rivalry between Smolder and Yona get in the way? Are yaks best? Or are dragons best? (As earlier established, yaks and dragons have their own deep-seated history of bitter rivalry, themselves.)
Meanwhile, King Capper and Queen Katherina are not getting along. It all starts when they come to visit their little students. It feels a bit like a mom and dad fighting. Capper and Katherina are arguing over land rights to sites with valuable commodities or artifacts.
The Younger 6:
This story goes in depth into each of the Younger 6's characters. One topic of focus is their races' historical conflicts over valuable goods and artifacts. Is friendship truly the most precious treasure of all -- something that can be sold but never bought?
Grogar's Bell Revisited:
Chrysalis, Tirek, and Cozy Glow have broken out of their rocky prison. (But they fashion a substitute to take its place.) They want to steal Grogar's bell again. Meanwhile, a young psychologist (Dr. Sigma) discovers Cozy Glow -- recognizing her as the midget adult (whom he calls a "false filly") who escaped from the Manehattan Asylum. Sigma catches Cozy, but Chrysalis and Tirek stop him.
To get out of trouble, he agrees to be their partner in crime -- selling his assets as a psychologist who can manipulate the gullible. This is how he learns about the Mean 3's conspiracy. Secretly, he plans to swindle the bell for himself and return it to Twilight.
At the same time, Sigma must battle his own mental problems. Deep inside, he believes the world is a madhouse -- and that the insane are running the asylum. He wants things to be logical and orderly for once in his life.
Refugee Crisis:
Unfamiliar races of creatures have arrived in Equestria and its allied nations. Some of them are Cunabulans. Others include Cuniculans (rabbits), Seafarians (seahorses and friends), Llamalpacans (llamas and alpacas), and more. Equestria's allies feel kind of hostile and suspicious toward the new immigrants. Equestria itself is not feeling as trusting of immigrants lately, since the trauma inflicted by Cunabula. But the Cutie Map is calling all nations (Equestria and allies) -- calling all leaders to where they are now.
After the Knights were ousted, six factions erupted, fighting for control of Cunabula. Finally, one prevailed -- led by a female named "Naponeon Blownaparte". Playing to her people's hate and fear of outsiders, she advocates a massive world war to make the world safe for Cunabula once and for all! To this end, Naponeon has recruited six kind and trusting children as her special students. They will be the new bearers of the Elements of Patriotism. Naive and uninformed, their friendship is to be used as a weapon against them -- and everyone else! (In fact, she is drafting many children into her own army!)
The Naponeonic Wars have ravaged multiple innocent nations. These refugees just barely escaped. With the assurance of the Cutie Map, Twilight and company start to trust the immigrants' stories. With greater difficulty, so do the rest of the leaders of the rest of the nations. Still, trust issues remain as to whether the immigrants truly belong in the new cultures where they're visiting.
With the assurance of the Cutie Map, Twilight finally releases the Knights of Order from Tartarus. However, they now wear special collars that nullify their magic -- known as Abyssinian Collars! Twilight wants the Knights to see the suffering of their own people with their own eyes -- including children. The traumatized children have become special students for Starlight, Cadance, and Luna. Will the Knights agree that they need the School of Friendship, too ... for how they and their ancestors were scarred?
The Friendship Guard:
Shining Armor and his Royal Guard are attending the School of Friendship. They have flooded the auditoriums beyond capacity. Can the Student 6 demonstrate how to be the toughest of friends? Gallus's character receives far more exploration -- prefiguring the time he will eventually become a Royal Guard.
Sandbar's Story:
Sandbar is finally explored in depth as a character -- and he gets to exhibit how he got his cutie mark! Special guests include Sea Swirl, Princess Skystar, and some of the Seafarian immigrants. Oh -- and his little zebra friend is coming along (along with Silverstream's kelpie friend)!
Counselor Discord:
The School of Friendship has another new student: Prince Blueblood! Meanwhile, Trixie the counselor has recruited a new partner to help her: Discord! (Starlight figures it's just as well that Discord be included in that manner.) Blueblood becomes Trixie's special student ... perhaps a little too special. And could both Starlight and Discord be secretly feeling a little jealous?
King Capper:
Summoned by the Cutie Map, Spike and Rarity go to Abyssinia. After the previous cat king was deposed, the Abyssinians declared Capper their new king. Unfortunately, Capper has been abusing his power to tax -- in order to collect valuable collectibles without him thinking it's stealing. Spike and Rarity must resist the temptation to receive Capper's gifts. Might some of these valuable collectibles have a curse that goes to the collectors' heads? And could Panthera, the capital city, survive an assault by a giant greedy dragon plus his unicorn herald?
Element of Spike:
Starlight's Camp Harmony seems to be working. Some of the other students are already showing some control over the Elements of Harmony. And so is Spike. In fact, Spike is glowing his own special color!
Apple vs. Dash
A bitter rivalry has erupted once again between Rainbow Dash and Applejack. Can RD and AJ show that two people can sometimes be bitter rivals -- yet the best of friends? The young dog and the young cat are counting on it -- along with Yona and Smolder. It is yet another field trip ... and Yona will not be caught dead near the water!
War of the Friendships:
Twilight decides that it is time to act against Naponeon. If Naponeon spreads her wars much further, she may be much harder to defeat than the Knights of Order were. All hands and hooves must be on deck.
There's one problem ... Capper and Katherina still aren't getting along. And neither are most of their company. Given this bitter rivalry, the dogs' and cats' Elements might still work -- but not to proper capacity. This breaks the Younger 6's hearts. It really is just like a mom and dad fighting, seemingly on the verge of divorce. Will Katherina and Capper finally declare war against each other ... or will their love for their loved ones snap them back to their senses?
Can the changelings be as powerful an army as they used to be -- but this time stunning their enemies with kindness? Can dragons and yaks let themselves loose without adding to the war crimes? Can Mount Aris / Seaquestria form an effective alliance with Seafaria? Do cats and dogs mix with rabbits? Do ponies mix with llamas and alpacas? Can Shining Armor and his Royal Guard finally be the force for friendship that he'd always dreamed of?
If some rogue soldiers commit war crimes, how do we make up for it? Can a system be designed so that this evil almost never happens? Can the Princess of Friendship, herself, avoid the temptation to do the equivalent of a nuclear bomb?
As the conflict heats up, so does the hostility toward everyone in Naponeon's army -- including the children, making 60% of the army! Twilight, with some insight from Thorax and Ocellus, perceives that most of these children must be victims of war -- just like most of the changelings under Queen Chrysalis. But how can Twilight convey this message to her foreign allies? Is it even possible for her to avoid destroying innocent children? Or is the situation really that desperate?
The Knights of Order beg to be unleashed from their Abyssinian collars. They believe they have the answer! They must find the New Knights bearing their old Elements. As long as it's friendship versus friendship, it could remain a massive and destructive stalemate. That seems to be what's happening.
When the old Knights are released, they are suddenly back in touch with their own Elements. Twilight grows pale with fear ... fearing the worst. But the Knights hug her instead. Twilight feels the warmth of their friendship. She now knows that the old Knights are her new friends!
Can these indoctrinated children, the New Knights, be snapped out of it? Will they be horrified by what they've done? Or will they ignore the epiphany? (If they ignore the epiphany, then at least the magic of friendship will no longer be with them.) How do the old Knights even find these New Knights, anyway? Can their Elements lead the way ... and might their own home have its own "cutie map"?
Mad with Sanity:
Now that the Friendship War is over, there's just one more problem to deal with ... Dr. Sigma successfully ran off with Grogar's bell. And he has trapped the Mean 3 in their own nightmares. Sigma intended to return it to Twilight, but he decided to keep the powers for safekeeping while in transit. Unfortunately, these powers have unleashed his deepest, darkest thoughts. Taking the persona of a mad scientist, "Warden Sigma" may be the scariest "guaridan of order" the world has known. He isn't very physically dangerous -- but he could easily break people's minds.
Can the Younger Six enter Sigma's own mind ... and give him a special daydream to ease his troubled mind? Friendship is, indeed, messy. But when it finally gets to work its magic, it is the most precious treasure of all! Sigma knows how to diagnose himself ... but it seems he doesn't know the treatment.
Can Grogar's bell finally be destroyed? And can a stallion become an alicorn?
In Cunabula, their Elements stand for Patriotism. Thousands of years ago, they tried to do basically what Twilight's been trying to do -- spread harmony around the world. But other nations turned their elements against Cunabula. Since then, Cunabula has been trying to make sure this never happens again.
But now the ponies have unwittingly thwarted those plans. And now the "Knights of
Up to now, the most malicious villains have also been the most honest about their motives.

Seeking help with my story projects
Posted 4 years agoAs many of you know, I am developing a book series that features autistic ponies. Here is the basic premise:
Six autistic ponies come together -- and learn the wonders of friendship. They find that autism is not their limiting factor. The right attitude changes everything!
Here is a sample comic, introducing the two main characters (Nightlight and Starlyre): https://www.furaffinity.net/view/39494030/. (I wrote the script.)
Update: For the "Spectrum 7" (including one neurotypical), here are my character descriptions: https://www.patreon.com/posts/57922563. (I'm still finalizing their designs.)
My work is still in the concept art stage. To produce more pictures and comics, I seek assistance. I create my own character designs, but I’m not great at drawing. I specialize mainly in writing.
In return for help, what favors would you like me to do?
If you don’t want to send money, maybe we can do an art trade (I specialize in writing). If you do send money, I could do some other favor you have in mind.
I would appreciate your responses!
(Legal Disclaimer: All characters in my work are my own, and I am free to use anyone’s contributions as I wish.)

Been active mainly on DA
Posted 4 years agoLately, I've been active mainly on DeviantArt. When I post material here, I usually make the effort to write a visual description, for the blind. Until I make the effort to do this, I don't like to post here. Today, I added one more piece of art (first put on DA) with a visual description.

Posted 4 years agoFriends with Autism: The Spectrum 6
Posted 4 years agoFlying Colors (aka "Rainbowbarf" or "Rainbowfire") is a pegasus with a very special set of friends. Why are they so special? Because all her best friends are autistic!
In total, “Fly” has six best friends: Nighlight (unicorn, mare), David Starlyre (ground pony, stallion), Fireshy (pegasus, stallion), Sparklefire (pegasus, mare), Precious Sapphire (unicorn, mare), and Applewood (ground pony, mare).
Nightlight and Starlyre are the new ones in town. They are rulers in training, and they are on a secret mission to master the art of friendship. But don’t tell the others; Princess Skysparkle wants them to keep their status a secret. They are supposed to live for a time without relying on their rich-kid privileges.
As the Spectrum 6 develop, they learn that autism is not their limiting factor. They can make friends as easily as anyone else — if they want to. Conversely, Flying Colors comes to realize that social skills are not so natural for neurotypicals, either. Friendship is an art and a science, and it must be studied as such.
