Recovering from a video game addiction
General | Posted 7 years agoThis has been a long three weeks for me. Not all bad, mind you. I've been out of town a few times to visit family and stay at hotels while doing so, but the real reason I've been so totally out of it as far as production or even making journal entries, is because I got bored enough to start playing Gems of War again. There are new achievements to earn since the last time I played, and new possibilities like upgrading weapons, as well as a whole lot more troops, and new weekly events. Intriguing as it was, I wanted to achieve as much as I could, and not having a job right now means that I can devote a lot of time to playing it. However, it turns out that competing in hundreds of battles, in all of which enemies try and fight back regardless of how much of a realistic chance they have, and some of which have advantages that can actually overwhelm your best efforts to the point where you don't even have a chance, and doing so for hours on end, really messes with your head after a while. Not only that, but if you're like me, you tend to be quite verbally hostile, as every impact against one of my troops felt like being punched. Both the hostility and the defensiveness in me, as well as my competitive drive were getting overloaded. I think I could have handled that, if not for how it affected my Mom who was often around me while I was playing. She always claimed that I was making too much noise for her even when she had earphones in. One time, while sharing a two-bed hotel room, (and I'm not making this up) I tried my best to suppress the noise, but couldn't suppress the gasping, deep breathing, sighing, or groaning, and Mom had earplugs in AND a white noise machine on, and she STILL said I was keeping her up. Basically, there's no way I could play Gems of War with her around and not have her hear it, and since I live with her, she's around a lot. So I decided to give up playing it again, for as long as I could. I've gone for months before, but there always seem to be more new developments. It's like trying to quit going to your favorite restaurant when they keep coming out with new recipes and dishes. Anyway, I've stopped playing again for a while, and I'm trying to cool my brain off here, but all of the tension and frustration of the game should have charged up my neurons enough to make some more art. (Sigh) I'm sorry for any watchers out there observing me that I've only got one picture to show for that three week period due to getting so wrapped up in my game. Also, I've only ever payed for commissions once before, but I think I can afford to do so again. I'm planning to commission an artist to do pictures of my characters once my check and my reimbursement arrive in the mail. It's not something I can afford to do too often, but I'm saving a lot of money by living with my mom and eating almost nothing but groceries, as well as being on a diet since the beginning of this year. Anyway, there are just plenty of artists with more practice and self-confidence than I have. Anyway, colored pencils may not achieve the best results as far as art...
Not trying to seem pessimistic here...
General | Posted 7 years agoI can't believe it's been a whole week since my last journal entry, and almost two weeks since I posted anything, and that was a photoshop of a platypus character. I haven't been pulling my weight as far as being an artist or writer, but things keep coming up that throw off any routine I could come up with. My aunt was visiting from out of town, and then I went to visit my brother and HIS family. I really don't have a job that I could use as an excuse, but I haven't been totally out of it either. I've been trying to work on a crossover adventure where Jewel, Trick, Star, Jack, Cowl, Fuzz, and Ruby meet He-Man and Skeletor. I'm having trouble putting the ending together, but there will be a number of jokes in the first installment of the adventure (there will be multiple episode-like parts), such as Ruby developing a huge crush on He-Man (The self-proclaimed most powerful man in the universe.), and Jewel not only being able to tell that Prince Adam is He-Man without hesitation, but also surprised that nobody in Eternia can put two and two together (Though she still doesn't spill the beans). Star, of course, can't tell though. Also, Trick hits on Teela, but regrets doing so after he finds out her father (Man at arms) was listening. I'm also almost done working on one age regression story, but I won't be posting it until I get a bunch of short stories. I've also got a number of photoshopped images that I could make into illustrations for magic the gathering cards. I just can't go wild with it like I did before, and I'll have to put the six other characters in backgrounds. However, it'll be cool adding in all of the different powers and some personality traits of my characters, including Jack's super speed, Faith's crusader abilities, and Hugo's comical invulnerability. I'm also keeping in mind some ideas for video games that I could illustrate, including one involving a guy who can control time to a certain extent, and must do so in order to return to his home dimension. I just don't know exactly what the guy is supposed to look like, or his enemies, or his allies, but I was thinking I'd make all the characters anthropomorphic animals, unlike the case with the three other pictures. I guess I should set my sights low, like at least one submission this week. Better than nothing. Anyway, watchers, thank you for not dropping me. I'm a hobby artist, not an expert, but hopefully, I'll make it worth your watching someday.
Trying to bounce back
General | Posted 7 years agoWell, it's been a long 2 months (or close to 2 months anyway). Not having a steady job to go to leaves me with a lot more free time, and I'd decided to spend said time on drawing, writing, and creating art in photoshop. Since I've spent so much time at my computer, watching Youtube, writing and using photoshop made the most sense to me, as drawing on pencil/pen and paper drawings take a while of being undistracted for a set period of time. However, after my plan to make and post dozens (and eventually hundreds) of Magic the gathering cards fell though due to copyright-related issues, I found myself with a distinct lack of energy and focus as far as creating art, though I DID manage to generate pictures of 2 more characters (Ducky the platypus wasn't my BEST work, but I've never worked with a platypus before. I guess I should've made a hand-drawing first. I was also trying to combine a number of different ideas together, including short female character (Jewel, Star, Cowl, and Ruby were each designed to be the size of the average adult human woman) and female comic relief, (Prior to Ducky, carefree rocker Star was the main female comic relief, while Ruby was simply clumsy) as well as Ducky being a reporter. (Which I wasn't too sure how to illustrate) Maybe it was too much all at once. Anyway, I'll try again some day.) Soon, I'll come out with a picture of the seventh for team number 2, a Kangaroo, I think his name was Joey, but I can't quite remember right now. Anyway, then it's onto the characters of team number three, including Kit the Sabre-toothed tiger! I haven't thought of all of the characters of team number three, but in addition to Kit there will be team leader River the snow leopard (She's a mystic and princess similar to Jewel, but has a different personality (Not vain, and a not as pacifistic), and different powers (They both have the power to freeze others, but River has no healing powers, but the ability to communicate telepathically with others (She is otherwise mute and unable to physically speak), and some telekinesis), in addition to being a feline rather than a canine. Also, the designated "smart one" of team number three will be a midget like Fuzz, but with a much feistier personality, more similar to Rocket from Guardians of the Galaxy. This character, named Sprocket, is a Fennec Fox dressed with gloves and goggles, and primarily interested in the invention and maintenance of machines. Sprocket's powers include electromagnetism. I'm planning for a total of ten teams of heroes with a total of seventy characters, though the last two will be seven different robots and seven different mythical creatures (A kitsune, a dragon, a manticore, etc.). The only problem is that, at the rate I'm making these, it'll take forever to make on pencil/pen and paper and photoshop. Not saying it won't be worth it though... Anyway, I'll also do a poster for each team, and at least one adventure for each character, an origin story at least. I'm also kind of working on a group of age-regression short stories, as well as fan-fiction crossover adventures, beginning with one where Jewel and the others meet He-Man and his friends due to a mistake on Skeletor's part. I'd also like to do age charts or at least child and baby versions of the seven characters, but I've found drawing them to be more difficult than it sounds. Perhaps I can make character age charts or baby pictures on photoshop like the other pictures. And, of course, I'm not going to forget about those video game idea illustrations. Those that I don't think I can illustrate, I'll just post in a word document, but I need enough of them to make the document interesting. As far as ideas, I also have ideas for movies both cartoon and otherwise that I may not be able to illustrate, but can write about, and there shouldn't be any copyright issues with posting a bunch of DESCRIPTIONS of new magic the gathering cards. Anyway, as usual, I've got plenty of ideas regardless of application. Creation hasn't been as easy as I thought it would be, due to low energy and not enough new inspiration, but given enough time, I could create over a thousand more posts. Anyway, I really appreciate the watchers and hope they keep watching. I'd also like to thank everyone who has posted a comment on my page or on one of my posts. I'd thank everyone by name if I hadn't been foolish enough to accidentally delete them, but still... Anyway, stay tuned!
I cannot believe what just happened
General | Posted 7 years agoLess than a week ago, I thought I had it made. I thought that, after working for hours on digital and hand-drawn projects, I finally had something, some renewable source of media to post and gather views and site visits. Then, I found out from one of the comments that what I was posting wasn't considered my own work because they were cards that I got the illustrations for off of the web and didn't say who the original creators of said illustrations were. I thought I was just borrowing images to make something entertaining, and something that got me a lot more attention than what I was slowly plodding along doing, but it turns out to be unacceptable. Now, I've lost all of those pictures and I lost three of my favorited notifications, and accidentally deleted all of my comments as well (I was just trying to get rid of the selected ones), and I'll probably lose my watchers next... (Sigh) I'm so depressed. I know I do this stuff for fun, but it seems like I'll never be a successful artist.
I'm on a video game idea kick lately
General | Posted 7 years agoWell, I've posted a bunch of hand-made art lately, and I don't think I'm too bad at pencil and colored pencil. It kind of helps the effect that I can use Photoshop to enhance the effect of the picture. Anyway, I've recently gotten into watching videos on youtube of video games that I may or may not have heard of before. Now, my major in college is video game arts and animation. Right now, I'm not too good at the animation part, but I'm trying to come up with as many ideas for video games as I could, and come up with at least one picture to represent each one. I figure I'll keep going until I come up with at least a dozen, AND provide a short description of each. This is, of course, in addition to the pictures I've come up with for Planesquest the game. Anyway, when I reach a full dozen representative pictures, I'll stick them together in a collage image showcasing what I've come up with. And y'know, at the very least, I'll have something to go to when I take enough college classes and get good at the whole animation thing or am able to make video games in some other way. Until then, it's all for fun, and I hope y'all enjoy the pictures!
Boy things have been kind of hectic lately
General | Posted 7 years agoI'd like to have done more pictures on Photoshop lately, but I've been doing a lot of traveling lately, over to my aunt's house in Pasadena, and then to the home in my brother's house in Folsom. Visiting family and doing things for and with them tends to get me exhausted, and it takes at least a couple of hours to make art on photoshop. However, as far as I know, I've stopped traveling for a while, and I'll be producing more new and original art. Hopefully, I can eventually get a few new favorites, but until I get to setting up commissions information, this is all for fun. I've been watching The Pink Panther AND episodes of the original He-Man and the masters of the universe. I came up with a fanart picture of the Pink Panther (needs background), and I COULD, in theory, make a fanart picture of He-Man. Kind of afraid of negative feedback associated with such a picture, but these days, I'm getting so desperate I'd like ANY kind of feedback. After all, I've only got seven comments. Still, not rushing things. The next picture I'm planning to make is Rags the fox from Planesquest team 2. We'll see how THAT goes...
I've finally made myself an avatar
General | Posted 7 years agoSo, I've been more-or-less posting my creations on Furaffinity more-or-less everyday for the last 19 days, but I didn't have any avatar other than the generic one with the art supplies in a mug. I thought about commissioning someone else to make me a bear avatar, but since I'm kind of between jobs right now, and I'm pretty sure whoever I commissioned is going to want more than just a thank-you. Anyway, I figured I'm an artist, I'll just make one myself. Of course, making something to fit in that 100/100 frame was a little difficult, but nothing I couldn't figure out. Anyway, I decided to make myself an avatar with a blue polar bear with brown hair, and a yellow star over the right eye. Anyway, maybe later I'll change my species or outfit, or color or something. It DOES look kinda gaudy... But it's better than just a generic. Anyway, as usual, I've got some more ideas, like the villain of team number 2 and/or a possible poster made for the team like I made for Planesquest. I also had some more ideas for monsters, specifically demons. What I was thinking was a seven-headed creature with each head representing the seven deadly sins, and then pictures of each of the seven deadly sins that the heads represent. It won't be easy coming up with manifestations for abstractions such as Pride, Gluttony, Wrath, Sloth, Envy, Avarice, and Lust. Also, what if Judy Hopps met my Jack character? Or possibly Jewel? I had an idea a long time ago where I tried to get all of my characters to visit Zootopia, but the height thing is just too offsetting. After all, I've got a midget bear and a squirrel the size of the average adult woman. Anyway, it's just that part of the crossover idea involved a dramatic rescue and battle by Jack against a huge ape similar to the giganto-pithicus Disney turned King Louie into in the new Jungle Book. Anyway, I'd like to pay others for commission work, but I figure it's best to wait until I get another steady job first. Until then, I'll just do more posts and journal entries.
I've reached a hundred page visits!
General | Posted 7 years agoOkay, I don't know if a hundred page visits in roughly two weeks is a good thing, but it's a big number, so I'd say it is. Anyway, I've still got to do things like get an avatar up. I'll probably have to commission someone else to make a Startouched bear headshot. Right now, I'm thinking multiple colors and a star shape mark over the right eye. Alternatively, I COULD just get a picture of Fuzz from another artist, since he too is a bear, but I don't know if I really want to represent myself with Fuzz the genius teddy bear. Anyway, I've got a few ideas for crossovers and cosplay. One of which is to have Fuzz hold up He-Man's power sword (While dressed as Prince Adam) and saying: "By the power of Greyskull!", then transforming into a huge, muscular bear wearing He-Man's skimpy outfit. Then, Fuzz wakes up wearing his usual outfit (or maybe pajamas), and saying that he really should lay off the honey late at night. Another idea is Jewel transforming into She-Ra (and by transforming, I mean getting her outfit on), and then getting freaked out at She-Ra's outfit. I also kind of like the idea of having age regressions of each of my characters, particularly step-by-step age regressions into cute little kids or babies. One such idea is where Jewel regresses into a teenager, then a tween, then a kid, and finally a toddler, then getting hugged by Jack, who closes his eyes and smiles with valentine hearts floating around, as Jewel sucks her thumb. Another idea would be to have Fuzz regress into a toddler, and then be hugged by Ruby, who gushes about how much cuter he is as a cub, while Fuzz complains that Ruby is hugging him too hard, and that he can't breathe. Another idea is to have Cowl turn into a toddler, and be bitter about it. Cowl says: "I WILL remember this. And someone will pay." Then, Trick says: "Don't look at ME, short stuff, I'm not changing any diapers." Cowl replies: "Zip it, rodent." Another idea could be Jack turning into a toddler, and being bitter about it, and apparently shouting, only to have Fuzz put a pacifier in his mouth, smug that he's finally bigger than Jack. Another idea could be Cowl actually being responsible for turning Star into a toddler, in an attempt to torture her, but Star actually loves being little again, and scares or irritates Cowl by taking off her diaper and running away stark naked (Shown from the back with her puffy purple tail covering much of her little rump, but her diaper lying on the ground nearby)! Then again, the whole "jaybird" thing may be a little much, maybe she just messes her diaper. Anyway, an idea with Trick might be that he regresses into a toddler, and then gets scared by Ruby because the two don't exactly see eye-to-eye as adults. Little Trick is afraid that Ruby will beat him up or at least spank him, but instead she picks him up, hugs him, and comforts him. An age regression for Ruby might be her turning into a toddler, and then Trick teasing her while cuddling her, and then getting punched into an indentation in a wall behind him, indicating that she still has super strength even as a toddler. Anyway, if I ever get up both the nerve and the cash, I'm thinking about running these ideas by Revathescarf. From what I've seen, he's awesome at both age regression AND babyfurs :). Anyway, I've got other things in the planning stage, such as a fan-fiction comic where Fuzz meets Yogi Bear, and gets into a competition, determined to prove he's smarter. Anyway, feel free to give me feedback!
At this point, I've got a lot more ideas than time.
General | Posted 7 years agoWell, I've been resigned from my part-time job, but I've been so busy everyday since that I've had little time for creating something on Adobe illustrator or Photoshop (although I DID manage to do that picture of Faith the coyote). Whatever free time I DO have, I have significant trouble concentrating. The search for outdated, campy entertainment (which I prefer to the reckless, less-detailed, and many times just plain stupid cartoons of today's media (I won't tell which ones because I'd hate to step on any toes here)) that I've even started watching old episodes of the original He-Man and the masters of the universe on Youtube. The show has been parodied and mocked many times (including by Geico), and looking back, I can't really blame those who did so. It's cheesey and campy with bad pacing, but somehow I can't help enjoying something with that kind of detail and the Lou Schiemer animation, similar to 60's Hannah Barbara cartoons like The Herculoids. Kind of an infectious charm really. It was also the first ever cartoon to be based on a toy line. I also frequently consider fan-fiction cross-overs using my characters interacting with characters like Darkwing Duck, or The Incredibles, or Nick and Judy from Zootopia, etc. As bizaar as it may be, watching these older episodes, I've even been getting thoughts of using He-Man and his team in a crossover, something like Ruby pitting her super strength against his, or Jewel facing Skeletor with a magic beam battle that Jewel eventually wins by conjuring up a reflective shield of frost, or Trick getting into trouble along with Orko, stuff like that. Believe it or not, according to Youtube, there are fans of He-Man even older than I am. Anyway, I'm also trying to make another book for my niece's seventh birthday, a book containing at least one story each of an adventure of Star, and of Ruby, as these two characters are apparently her favorite of the seven. In one of the stories of Ruby, she and her siblings get into a race with a lot of other furries, and in a practice run, Ruby tells her younger brother that he should be more careful, though Ruby's older sister appears to be faster than either of them. On the day of the race, Ruby's older sister leaves the other siblings in the dust, but Ruby's younger brother trips and falls onto a cliff ledge, and injures his leg. Ruby finds out about her brother's predicament and chooses to rescue him and walk him to the finish line at the cost of getting into last place. Ruby says that there will always be more trophies, but that he is the only brother she has. One of the stories on Star will be where she and her band go to a gig. Unknown to the group, Jazz holds the directions upside down and they go to the laboratory of a mad scientist who is holding a monster captive with his machine. In spite of being told to go away, Star's band prepares to play, and Star dim-wittedly unplugs the machine to plug in some speakers. While the machine is unplugged, the monster escapes and attacks the nearest city. The police are ineffective at stopping the monster, but Star steps in and begins playing party music, which the monster dances to. Star's band then joins in, and it is revealed that Star figured out that the monster was only acting defensively, and that nobody was ever nice to it before. The monster becomes tamed, which irritates the mad scientist, and the one that Star's band was SUPPOSED to have a gig with turns out to be a nice guy who adopts the monster. Anyway, it doesn't have to be award winning. It's for a seven-year-old kid, and her birthday is next month! As for anything else, I'd really like nothing better than to come up with ideas and have someone else draw pictures or comics, but I know it's much more financially feasible to do everything myself, given that I don't have a steady job right now. Still, if I can get organized, I may request a comic book artist, or at least a single-character artist. Quality is worth the price.
Should I do another story? Maybe some commission work?
General | Posted 7 years agoWell, here in California, it's about the end of spring and beginning of summer. It's getting a little too hot to think clearly, particularly since I keep going to the gym in an ongoing effort to slim down to 180 pounds (I've been trying all year long). Anyway, I've got plenty more digital art I can post, but that's starting to feel a little stale. For something new, I was thinking about maybe writing another story, kind of an adventure story in which the protagonist finds and must escape from and/or defeat a total of 101 different monsters, OR dividing it into 101 unique shorter stories in which a monster is introduced per story. So far though, the only monster I've come up with and developed is a scary one that's a Venus-flytrap-like monster that grows in graveyards. Any humanoid creatures it devours become essentially digested, but their remains become reconstituted into part-vegetation, zombie-like "drones" whose job it is to find innocent victims to feed to the mouth of the plants (a new spin on the little shop of horrors concept). Maybe I could even make photoshopped images of some of the monsters for illustration. Then again, for a change of pace, I was toying with the possibility of offering photoshop-created images of creatures, characters and/or fursonas using pictures I find on the web. I've never done commission work before, but at this point in my life, I'm willing to give it a try. I'm not going to ask for much money to start off with, probably just ten dollars per commission right now, but since I don't have a steady job right now, any little bit helps. Also, I've got to do some real thinking as to what MY fursona is going to look like. I guess he'll be a bear, though I've lost a lot of weight recently and wolves are my favorite animals. Anyway, I've got a lot of free time these days and I'm not sure which direction to go, so any feedback would be helpful.
Well, it looks like I can't post the rest of my wireframes
General | Posted 7 years agoUh, I don't know if anyone's even interested here, but I tried to post the other 3 pages of that wireframe mockup, and it said that all of the pictures were too big. Frankly, I'm ambivalent to this fact (Wasn't the BEST representation of my art anyway), but I just wanted to let anyone know who might be interested.
My first day on Furaffinity!
General | Posted 7 years agoI've often thought about signing into the furry community, but today I finally did so. Frankly, I didn't know what to expect really. I didn't even know what kind of creature best suited me; a wolf? A dragon? A fox? I thought a bear would be an interesting fit. I've often seen myself as a big bear... Anyway, over the years I've done a lot less thinking about what animal I, myself, am and a lot more thinking about characters that I could create, write stories, profiles, and adventures for. I'm not without some skills in drawing and creating computer art, but I'm not nearly as practiced or honed at it as most of the artists I've seen. I have, however, been told by a number of classmates at college that I'm a very good writer.
One thing you should know about me is that I'm not a fan of Disney. Not now anyway. That could change, but now I see Disney as an incredible sellout that used to be a charming little idealistic movie-making company. The degree to which it has sold out its own classics with things like "Once upon a time", and "Descendants" is troubling enough, but now Disney has bought up Marvel and Star Wars. That just doesn't seem right to me. Anyway, I've researched plenty of cartoons that Disney DIDN'T make, but are at least as good as Disney movies of the times. Don Bluth, for example, made some powerfully emotional animated movies back in the day, including "The secret of NIMH", and "The land before time", and let's not forget what Hannah Barbara studios contributed. They made a lot more than Scooby Doo and The Smurfs!
Anyway, like I said, I haven't done a lot of thinking as far as what I, myself, would be, but I've created seven well-developed characters and conceived more lesser-developed characters, with plans to develop them and to create even more. The characters I HAVE developed are (In order): An arctic fox named Jewel, a raccoon named Trick, a purple skunk named Star, a pink rabbit named Jack, a black cat named Cowl, a brown bear named Fuzz, and a red squirrel named Ruby. More on these characters and their information later. I've got to start posting my pictures on the site! I'd also like to commission some pictures, or even one or more comics. I need to do some work on creating a picture of my own fursona, but hopefully I can get an artist to give me a good profile picture. Anyway, I'm just curious on how this is going to turn out.
