Star's Menagerie
Posted 11 years agoInspired by but otherwise unrelated to

Is a rollcall of my various selves. All of them are me; I don't really do 'fursonas' as such. (Nothing wrong with it, just not me.)
Bipedal negatiger forms:
7' Male, 6' everything else: six breasted female (my 'default'), two breasted female, herm.
Quad negatiger (I'd never heard 'feral' used to describe these until just recently. In 95 I called them 'quad' as in quadruped.): Male and female, plus one silly one of a male quad with a horse's... All 8 feet long with a six foot tail, about 4'6" at the shoulder.
Mega: Quad male and quad female, both around 60' at the shoulder. (Mainly to intimidate Rouge for the silly factor.)
Negatiger taur: Female, a combination of the two above. Around three feet at the foreshoulder, six feet to the top of the head.
Non tiger StarChasers:
Avian: Female cardinal, with and without breasts.
Lapcat: Long haired 'tuxedo' pattern cat, mainly for pouncing and taking up laps.
Fox-taurs: both are me, but one is 'good' and the other is 'evil'.
Good: A female crystal foxtaur, six feet at the ears faintly glowing sky blue main body with white bib, socks and tailtip. Her nosetip and pads are pink, and her eyes are mismatched bright emerald green and dark sapphire blue spheres with no pupils or whites. Her body is faintly transparent and occasionally ripples with bands of light, especially when happy.
Evil; Male, seven feet tall, flat black body with red and orange flames for markings (as in 'fire', not patterns). His eyes are open holes into a furnace, flames occasionally flicking out past his eyebrows.
Dragon: Emerald dragon, psychomorphic fluid gender. Male, female, herm, neuter, depending on mood and companionship. One forefang replaced with a carved sapphire, eyes large clear crystal balls with spiraling and rotating silver and copper bands, that add colored bands that change with mood.
(From before 'steampunk' was a thing) Dragon: 7' steam powered mechanical dragon. I like the description so much I'm putting it down at the bottom.
Non StarChaser character:
This is the only RP one I ever had. Made her as a submissive for my then mate who was a dom.
Obsidian the Sky Elemental. Here's a picture of her:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12145766/
Her fur changes color with the time of day, looking like a cutout piece of sky. Her eyes show the sun, the moon, star filled sky or blue sky in opposition to the rest of her body.

(Steampowered dragon)
StarChaser stands before you, looking like some mad scientist's
crossbreeding experiment between a dragon, a steam train, and a
battlemech.
Seven feet tall at the shoulder, he...err, she...umm...StarChaser's body
seems to be built of iron, each scale dully shining, flecks of reddish
rust edging some. Soft hissing sounds accompany each movement, jets of
steam occasionally pluming from a joint.
The face has a long muzzle of angled plates, narrowing down to the nose,
where two soot-blackened nostrils sometimes have a thin curl of wood smoke
tending upward. The teeth are all brightly shined stainless steel, and the
inside of the muzzle seems to be lined in the luminous grey of duralumin.
A long red forked tongue curls out and flicks at you as you inspect the
iron dragon.
You can feel the heat of the eyes as they look back at you, flickering
flames behind fine gratings, dancing yellow and orange and red. They
darken for a moment, then the fire flares up again as the big dragon
blinks. A double crest of curved plates, small where they start in a V
above and between the eyes, gradually growing larger as they run down the
back between the wings and eventually looking like the tailfins on a '58
Cadillac, the last two at the base of the tail complete with taillights.
The wings are marvelously intricate mechanisms, heavy upper frames with
thin plates filling in between the 'fingers', the plates sliding over each
other with thin squeaks, bright wear-lines making a pattern of shiny
curves over the general dull grey background. Tiny gears, cables and
pistons fold and spread them as the big dragon moves a little restlessly.
The tail is a skeleton of framework surrounding a bewildering array of
smaller pistons and cables, each looking clumsy, but the totality has
incredibly fluid flexibility. The tip of the tail is a oddly curved spade,
bent downwards and stained with soil. Suddenly the purpose becomes
obvious; it's a recoil spade. If it's dug into the ground and the tail
stiffened, it will serve as a chair.
And finally, the legs. The feet are wide spread three toed pads, lower
legs leading back and up at a low angle to the ankle, and actually
extending past them a foot or so. Huge pistons lead from the lower leg to
the back of the ankle, and the zygodactyl whole is topped by massive
reservoirs in the thighs, to give the heavy dragon enough power to leap
into the air to take off from a level surface.

GPS 'vehicles'.
Posted 12 years agoAnyone know anyone who might be able to make custom vehicles for a Garmin Nuvi GPS? I'd like Fluttershy at the least, and Pinkie Pie. They're apparently collections of PNGs with transparency making an animation, according to some stuff I found.
Would like Fluttershy's wings to be flapping, obviously, with the position of the car at the tip of her nose. Pinkie might be harder to make recognizable from above. I'd be willing to pay a reasonable amount for it, although let me know what you might want for it first. :P
If anyone of the two or three people reading this want to try, http://www.poi-factory.com/node/9738 has a fair amount of information on it.

More fun with cars, college and a job.
Posted 12 years agoOk, so the car is back. Good news; they didn't have to replace all three computers. Bad news; cost almost three thousand dollars. Good news; that was the 'it's all better, bye' price, as opposed to the original estimate of '4k and we'll see what happens after that'.
Bad news; it'd apparently been in an accident at some point that I wasn't told about. Never again will I buy a used car without springing the 40$ for a carfax report. The power steering computer was actually dented from it, and had finally given up the ghost, probably when I hit a poorly placed manhole. (The pavement has collapsed around the thing so it's set in what amounts to a hole, so you drop down into it and then hit the manhole itself...)
The car has six computers in it sharing a network. The power steering one was doing the equivalent of going 'Chimicherrychanga! Chimicherrychanga! Chimicherrychanga! Chimicherrychanga! Chimicherrychanga! Chimicherrychanga! Chimicherrychanga! Chimicherrychanga! Chimicherrychanga! Chimicherrychanga!' on it until the other ones put their metaphorical paws over their ears and gave up. So, they replaced that one, the others cautiously came out of hiding, and all is well. More or less... it stalled once, but hasn't repeated that performance. Will have to see. Hopefully not at 8 am on a very busy interstate on the way to work.
Out of optimism, I asked the Volvo dealer for a loaner while they were working on it. I was expecting, at best, some clapped out jalopy they'd gotten in as a trade in and hadn't been able to unload on anyone. I honestly wasn't expecting anything at all.
I got a brand new 2014 with a thousand miles on it. O.O
That was a NICE car. I felt like I was underdressed, needed a haircut and a nice evening gown or something. It was one of the keyless entry and start type ones, and patient with noobs. I poked the button a dozen times and was just about to give up and go ask how to work the thing when the dash lit up (The whole thing is a monitor) and said 'press brake to start'. I did, and it did. Once this new job stabilizes and I can see if I can afford it or not, I want a new Volvo.
Got a custom plate I'd had made for the front, with Derpy's eyes and wings (from this pic http://shadowweaver97.deviantart.co.....ctor-349865037 ) but it doesn't fit. :P The frame I bought at the same time fits the studs on the front of the car, but the plate itself is too small. I let them know, telling them I could make it work as is by drilling out the holes a bit, so I wasn't asking for a refund... but the person who replied was a brony too, and gave me a refund anyway. :D
Also having some custom Derpy cutie marks made for the rear end. Florida sun is VERY hard on vinyl and the standard stuff car stickers are made from dies in a couple of years. He is getting some extra heavy sun resistant vinyl for it, and it'll be the full cutie marks, the bubbles in blue with the white highlights.
Explaining to the car several times that 'Derpy' is a term of endearment in this case. :D This is my ringtone: http://youtu.be/dDgk2YMzGpY
Re college: it's kicking my ass. Seriously. The start of the third week and I'm already several days behind. I didn't finish the second chapter of algebra, and now we're starting the third. I'm not smarter than a 4th grader...
And the new job; Working for the big blue hands insurance company, (in case they search or something, don't want them to find this. :P) sort of. Right now, I'm with a temp company, but it is a temp to hire, so once they've lifted their hiring freeze, for the first time I may actually work for the company I work for.
I think I got lucky with this job; it's laid back as hell, the dress code amounts to 'be', and during the second interview, after a couple of the usual businessy questions, there was a 20 minute discussion about how much I like Krieg in Borderlands 2. :D (The answer is 'Lots'. Zer0 was my favorite to start, but only got him to 36 and killed the Warrior... Krieg is now 51, kills the Warrior for laughs when I'm bored. Krieg is TERRIFYING in the mania tree; guns are kind of meh, but with all the 'stuff gets better with no shields' and the Love Thumper that explodes every time I hit something... my sniper hits for maybe 100k. The rocket launcher, 300. The buzz axe? 500-700k per swing, plus I heal full with each kill, and it's recharged once it runs out so I can do it right over again. RWAR! Pretty much only bosses and elites / badasses take more than one swing.)
Not as much as the last place, but fuck them with a splintery stick. 16 years of experience not as good as someone who had to be helped to turn on her computer, but she has a degree in culinary arts? The lack of stress makes up for it, although the commute blows...
So anyway, for the no people who care, what StarChaser is up to lately. :P Algebra is killing all my time anymore... if I'm not at work, I'm sleeping before work, or failing at math after...

'Fun' with cars.
Posted 12 years ago(Note: I'm NOT asking for donations or anything. Just bitching.)
Argh. The new car I was so happy about is tango-uniform. Bought a 2005 Volvo V50 T5 wagon, and love it. Cold as hell air, plenty of room for my bigass frame, sounds like a bank vault when you close a door. I love the car...
...and it's in the shop after three weeks. Three of the six computers in it are proper fucked, for a total of 4,000$ to fix... and they don't even know if that will fix everything. That's the minimum to get it working well enough to do more diagnostics.
So, I have three options:
1) Fix the Volvo. I like the car, and if this fixes it, a 7 year old car is better than my 22 year old Celica.
Pros: Nice car, I like it, it fits me well.
Cons: Might be more than 4k to fix.
B) Buy a 'new' used car.
Pros: Cheaper / equal to the Volvo repairs.
Cons: At half the amount of money I can spend on it, the 'new' car is going to be much older, and the big problem with buying a used car is you never know what's going to fall off in a week. (See top.) Because I'm between jobs (I've been hired by an insurance company for tech support. Don't want to say the name here in case they do a search and find this, but it's the one with the blue hands for a logo.) I probably can't get financing at the moment (Waiting on a background check that's stalled due to the government shutdown) to get a better one.
III) Buy my old car back from the mechanic I sold it to to buy the Volvo for 1200$.
Pros: I know the car, and at worst it's the same one I've had. They'd probably have worked it over some too.
Cons; It's 22 years old. It uses oil, and it's starting to rust out in various places. It's small, which doesn't bother me much (I've had it for 9 years) but the AC was converted from Freon to r34, and because it wasn't designed for it, it won't ever be as good as a more modern car's AC... and in Florida, where it runs 99 degrees and 99% humidity for 99% of the year, that's kind of a big deal.
So. I'd pretty much decided on #1. I'm hoping that those three have soaked up whatever hit the car took and the other three are ok. The paint's a little beaten up on the car, but other than that, it's in pretty good shape.
Wish me luck...

Heh. So, I applied to a university. Going for a BS in Computer Information Technology at Saint Leo University.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Leo_University
A catholic university, but not pushy about it. Part of the classes I'm going to take is some christian stuff which ought to be 'fun'. But, we'll see. The guy I talked to on the phone for an hour seemed cool, and was really interested in me joining. Lots of good information, plus several scholarships and grants including one for being a student in Florida, going to a Florida private university.
Had to go Back to the Future to get some information; needed a school transcript so I had to FAX a form to the state Department of Education... not to mention starting off hand-writing the form (before I got tired of that and found an online PDF editor where I could add in text more easily)... felt like a caveman bashing a leaf with a rock.
(Relevant Picture: http://i.imgur.com/LHqHoC0.jpg )
I honestly didn't want to do this.. .but so many places are requiring degrees anymore. I'd still have a job if I had one, even if it was in something stupid. It's all online, and while I'll have set things to do per week, I can do them whenever I feel like it / have time as long as it's before the deadline. They seem really interested in getting me as much in the way of grants and scholarships as are available, which makes sense; otherwise they don't get paid. But it doesn't feel like I'm just a dollar sign to them.

Final cat update (In a bad way).
Posted 12 years agoTora is gone... he collapsed again Sunday morning. I gave him fluids again, and he managed to get up. I decided to leave work early to take him to the emergency vet. Had to use the bathroom before I left, and he wobbled in and plowed into the bathroom cabinet like he couldn't see it. I took him in, and his temperature was down by three degrees, he was seriously dehydrated and barely responsive. He'd lost over 9 pounds in the last month. Rather than put him through another week of IVs, then have it happen all over again a month later, I decided to have him put to sleep.
He was purring as he went, with his face in my hand, looking at me.
And I've been crying on and off for the last 24 hours. He was 16 (April 1997 to June 2013) years old, so he had a good long life, as happy as I could make it. According to the 'cat years' wikipedia article, he was the equivalent of 80 years old. Until he collapsed the first time a month ago, he was mooching for treats, wrestling with his sister and running around like he always had.
but it still hutr.s can barely csee what I'm tpingh.

but it still hutr.s can barely csee what I'm tpingh.

Final cat update (in a good way)
Posted 12 years agoTora is home and in much better shape. He had renal failure, but has recovered pretty well. It's a permanent thing; he's going to be getting 100ml of fluids 3x a week for the rest of his life, plus prescription kidney support catfood. He's walking around and drinking on his own, at least, and eating pretty well at the vet's. Hasn't eaten here yet but he's only been home five minutes. So he's in decent shape. Will have to get the food from the vet's from now on, although I might be able to order it to be delivered, although shipping may make it more expensive.
--
Since I wrote that in an email to family, he has since eaten, and he's been drinking. He ate about half a can of wet kidney support food, which Bastet was highly jealous of right up until I offered it to her, then it wasn't any fun anymore. "Can I have some?" "No." "Can I have some?" "Stop." "Can I have some?" "Ok, here." "Nevermind..."

One of my cats is probably going to die.
Posted 12 years agoTora is in the emergency vet's at the moment. He collapsed some time Saturday, and I didn't recognize it as a medical problem, I thought he was just tired from the trip to the (regular) vet.
His kidneys are failing or have failed. He was dehydrated, and his various blood levels were all screwed up. They've got him on IV fluids.
If he lives, he's going to need special low protein food and to be in the vet probably a couple of times a week for the rest of his life. I don't know how he'll handle that. If quality of life gets too bad for him...
I don't want to euthanize him. I've had him all his life and almost half of mine. but if he's aghoing to be miaasterable I'd rather do what's best for him than to kepe him in pain and unhappiness.
I'm also losing my job at the end of august. But I will support him as best I can asd lon as possible.
I pretty much have no local friends. these cats are my family. they're 16 years old, and i' mgoing to sloe them and wi don't qwikno what to do.

Left the house ar 830a to be at work at 9 to talk to my boss. Talked to him for about ten minutes. Got home at 10a. Was driving all that time otherwise...
...I live four miles from work. Some dumbass managed to bork a semi across a four lane road in such a way that it was completely blocked, and with a park on one side and a dead end housing development on the other, it took forever to get where I could turn around.
Anyway, got the notification. Bad news; August 31 is the end, period. The one director is still trying to get them to keep us but it's not likely, and we'd be in a different department anyway. Good for him, though.
Good news; they're offering us a bonus again, to stay the entire time and not do anything stupid, that amounts to about a month's pay. So, I'll have a little bit of a pad, and since I'm being laid off and not fired, I should have no trouble with unemployment.
In other news, my 72 year old father fell down and busted his ass a day ago. Smashed his face and one hand up some, but is otherwise ok. Brother's girlfriend says that he was kind of loopy and kept calling her Michelle instead of her actual (only vaguely similar) name, but when I called him tonight, he was more like his old self, so he seems a little better off.
Random animal-related stuff; one of my cats is laying on the floor next to me, paws curled up and tail tucked across his hindpaws, and snoring a fuzzy little buzz. It's adorable. I know if I pulled out the camera he'd wake and flee, of course. (tries) Yup.

The End is Near. (Not furry. Not funny.)
Posted 12 years agoOk, pretty much nobody is going to see this, but as I've said before, sometimes it helps me to write it down.
My job is ending. Probably in a couple of months. 7 years of working there, called out like twice in that time, always volunteered for holidays and overtime, a total of 15 years of experience with hardware and software... but it's no match for someone with a college degree in culinary arts who had to have the start button explained to her. Because that's SO helpful for helpdesk work. A manager who'd been there for more than 30 years was forced to retire because she didn't have a degree. Meanwhile, a friend who has not one, not two, but THREE degrees in things actually relevant to the job (computer security, another computer one I can't remember, and business management) is basically shoved out.
A little over a year ago, I was shuffled from the helpdesk job I'd had for 6 years to commercial stuff only. I work for a phone company (can you hear it?) doing tech support for internal employees, and for external commercial customers like the shipping company with the red and blue logo and the coffee that America gets the runs from. We went from around 50 people to 16. Last year in September, we all got shown the axe. I had the longest expiration date, at 12/31. Happy fucking new year. They did offer to pay a bonus to each of us who stayed and didn't do anything blatantly stupid, that amounted to about a month's pay. Time passed, and we dwindled. Finally, I was the only overnight person left in town, with the other five being six states away. The end came... and passed. Apparently, one of the higher ups was trying to get them to keep us, one way or another. So, here I am, four months after my expiration date.
Now, the axe is actually being swung. We're all getting new expiration dates, and this time they're for real. The higher up has failed to convince them. Now, I could understand if I was a problem child, always taking time off, always calling in sick or fucking up calls.. .but I've got such a squeaky clean record that Billy Mays never had a product that could shine it up more. Once in a while I'd get a caller who was a bitch, they'd whine to their management that I wasn't helping them steal their neighbor's wireless after he put a password on his router and so obviously I was deliberately preventing them from getting online, but they'd listen to the recorded call and take the coach off.
Some fuckstick way high up has decided that everybody has to have degrees, even if they're completely irrelevant. I considered buying one from somewhere online, but the couple I looked into, were pretty much non-accredited, and in at least one case non-existent (color me surprised) and while I have the experience for a PhD, why should I pay 120$ for a piece of paper that I could knock up myself in OpenOffice and print at Kinko's for a buck? I don't have the money to actually take classes, and I don't have the 'work 16 hours a day' time to take classes... so I'm kind of fucked.
For various reasons I can't leave Florida right now, as much as I'd really, really like to. So, I get to start looking for another job, yay. I hate interviews. I hate the bullshit questions they ask you that nobody can answer without either a canned shiny-happy-people response or lying. "Where do you see yourself in five years?" I don't. My eyes aren't that good. I do what comes up, and planning that far in advance doesn't really do any good for something like a job, because promotions depend on there being somewhere to GO, which means either someone died or retired, and you can't really plan on that.
So, you lie, and hope that your bullshit answer lines up with their bullshit expectations, and it's great that it's all based on bullshit. So, my old ass is going to be out of a job, and there's SO much work available now.. (sighs) And I hate looking for work. And I've kind of run out of steam. So, if you actually read this, hi. If you didn't, then how do you know what I'm saying?
(starts writing at 5.50a. Finishes at 6.35a. Wanders off and has a beer. So I'm working, they don't really seem to care anyway...)

Amara_Lemur is working on a MUGEN 'furries vs scalies' fighting game, and is looking for characters. Not sure how many more slots are open, but it's already been expanded once. He's looking for link to the journal http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3971015/
a ref sheet and a fighting style.
'She' when 'she' clearly has... err...
Posted 13 years agoSomething I've always wondered about, and been seeing more lately. Why does something with a peen and titzen get called 'she'? Guys can have boobs (real ones, not moobs) from hormone treatments, but there's no way to perform an addadictame without surgery for women.
For herms, maybe I can see it, of the three secondary sex characteristics, they're at a ratio of 2:1 female, but 'guy with tits', why do people call them 'she'?

Yet more raffleish stuff.

kemostar, a name that I really like, is raffling off a tail, and a couple of 25% coupons as a second prize. If it reaches 100 entries, may add another prize. So what the heck. Doesn't have a lot, but the tails look pretty good.

sportypup just for the heck of it, for the three people that actually see these update. ;P
Ask me anything and I'll do my best to answer it. I reserve the right to avoid, evade and outright lie but can think of very little that might make me do that. If it's something personalish feel free to send me a note too, but please add 'WTF' or something similar to the title.
