Old Artwork Upload
Posted a year agoWhile uploading reference materials for a (hopeful) VRChat avatar omission, it came to my attention that I had NOT uploaded any of my older artwork here to FA!
I uploaded them Somewhere once upon a time back in the day, I just can't remember where!!??
So I am working on correcting that oversight

I know I dont post much these days, tis is mainly because I'm trying to Only post unique designs that we do.
Production is still going, just continues to be slow as this isnt a full-time job for us: This being a hobby, We do have Full-time jobs that we do daily, which take the majority of our time.
We have other designs coming down the line still, at a snails pace yes but theyre definitely there.
I thank my followers for their continued interest in what we com up with!

Flipnote Hatena reanimated as Sudomemo by a College Student
Posted 11 years agoWatching Flipnotes is a side enjoyment of mine, watching new hand-drawn animations posted up by up-and-coming young artists whom show potential.
Flipnote Studio is a Free program that was downloadable onto the Nintendo DSi, and it once had a service (Flipnote Hatena) where animators could share their creations. Flipnote Hatena was shut down in June 2013, and was SUPPOSED to be replaced by Flipnote Studio #D on the 3DS: but due to financial woes, Nintendo never got around to making the service available outtside of Japan.
By the sheer want and will of a College studio, the service has been Resurrected (Kinda) as Sudomemo: Heres My LJ Writeup http://stego-s-aurus.livejournal.com/243538.html and heres the Sudomemo website with instructions on how to connect your DSi to it: http://www.sudomemo.net

Jackaling Along
Posted 12 years agoWe here at Wildgasmasks have been churning away and bettering our processes to create Better masks in a shorter timeframe: Our new molding techniques, along with newly purchased equipment, has vastly cut down the turnaround time, and we continue to enjoy seeing what peeps have been doing with the masks!
I have crowned my partner Meddle Pony "King of the Hoods" as he has mastered the art of hood-making.
We're still filling orders, and are attempting to fill several hooded orders at the same time now. Reproducing our own busts will help facilitate this challenge.
If you're interested in purchasing a mask for your own, be sure to check out http://wildgasmasks.com and send your orders or queries to orders[at]wildgasmasks.com
Thanks for all your support!

Watch and Enjoy these Animations before they disappear 5/31!
Posted 12 years agoHi!
I know that this particular post is not about my Mask creations, so you may want to skip it.
For all of those people whom are fans of Furry Animations, Please take a look at all these animations that I've been favoriting over the past 3 years, before the site is shut down on May 31st: http://flipnote.hatena.com/stego_s_aurus/favorites (Mind you there are many More animations out there, but my favorites ahve always been the Furry/Anthro ones)
A Quick summary: Flipnote Studio for the Nintendo DSi is/was a Free program which allowed the user to hand-draw short animations with sound. While the interface was clunky, and no adult professional at first-glance would ever consider using such a low-grade animation tool, it is absolutely AMAZING what the tweenagers were able to produce with this extremely limited animation tool!
The Flipnote Hatena website was a Free community that the DSi could communicate with, allowing other DSi users and the General Public to see and share the resulting animations: For more info, see my detailed Livejournal post about it at http://stego-s-aurus.livejournal.com/241721.html
I've tried doing my own animation, and gave up halfway through: It is quite indeed difficult to do such an animation in this program!
Yet these kids spent much love and time into them: Many are fun, quite a few have a bit of emotion in them: flips about being Loved, being hated, having Fun, being Alone...
Please enjoy these flips while they are available: They can be downloaded using plugins as FLVs. Once the site is closed, it Will be replaced by the 3ds version, however there have been many of the kids saying that they wont be able to afford the monthly subscription model and will probably disappear completely once the Hatena Flipnote site and service is closed.

Posted 12 years agoSpring! Slowly things bloom...
Posted 12 years agoHeres a quick update on things here at the Lab:
We're on a slow pause right now: All 3 of us are now working Jobs, which of course is cutting into our Jackaling time. So where I can time-wise Ive been Slowly working on projects here trying to keep Something going.
There Are some pretty colors on the table as new skills are learned, and yes: New Jackals Will make an appearance soon.

Hello, and Progress:
Posted 13 years agoHello all!
I'm not much for writing Journals, but I just wanted to poke out my head and give a few Lip-flappings to all those whom decided to give me a Follow:
Many apologies for the lack of anything Meaningful to show or to share with you, but for the past few months I've been actively involved in trying to keep my 9-5 job alive: Living weekly from hand to mouth, paying the bills and doing what I do best to keep the company of 45 families alive does indeed give me quite a bit of purpose: especially since I Really would not be where I am today if it werent for my employers past generosities: They helped me buy my house, my cars, and helped me learn a career. Thus, my repayment is to stick it out to the end (hopefully there Wont be an end), and try to breathe some new life into the company: The Boss at the helm Really Does know how to drive this huge boat we are in, and we are al hoping that the direction change was just enough to keep the ship from Permanantly running aground. for if it fails again, we're done.
In the Jackal lab, I'm sad to report the loss of our JG-2 mold as well. We are currently finalizing the last of the shells that were made on it for the last remaining customers of the old JG2 style.
Significant progress has been made in our retooling efforts to construct New molds based on the old designs, incorporating new techniques into the molds that were learned during the creation of the Cats and Horses over the years. So please keep an eye on this spot for upcoming pics of the Reloaded JG1.5, JG2.5, and the magical JG3 that we've been wanting to get done for Years now!!
There is Also another custom mask design sitting in the wings which we hope to have available shortly after the new Jackal molds are done. This design I will keep under wraps until I have the design-owners OK to show it off.
Anyway, Thanks for watching, heres hoping I can have something significant to show you all shortly!

JG1s not available, & Bust shortage...
Posted 13 years agoSadly I must announce that the JG-1 Jackal Masks (our flagship mask) won't be available for awhile, as the Mold has broken into several pieces. Again. I May be able to eek out a few more shells, but the reality is that this mold is now 7 years old, and Ive pulled Far more mask shells from it than it was meant for.
Compounding the problem, in order for me to proceed with either rebuilding that mold or finally proceeding with the new JG-3 design, I need a new supplier for Busts on which I can sculpt:
I am in search of Busts (Armatures, Mannequins) which have both the head and shoulders, are made of Foam, and are available in forehead circumferences of 22" and 24". I keep finding busts without shoulders, and the majority of available busts are for 21" forehead circumferences and/or are made out of Fiberglass (I can deal with the fiberglass busts, Foam would be IDEAL).
Once I have these new busts, I can then proceed to build the new mask designs Ive had on the back burner for years now (the Foxes, a Bull, and of course the long-awaited JG-3)

I cant tell you how nice it is to have an update for you guys…let alone one that is the polar opposite of our last one. Over the past few months, having to lament the loss of productivity, we are happy to report that we’re back in full force (and then some!). This is thanks to our secret weapon — a third set of hands in the form of our shop pony. With pony’s help, we have been able to get back up to a consistent production speed and have begun taking care of people who have been waiting in the wings.
For those following our Twitter, you may have noticed more updates happening more often and more opportunities to look in our lab and see how we are doing. Our production still has its limits, mainly in the area of hooded orders. Sadly, its a matter of replacing certain pertinent tools to this process, and our search has resulted in a lot of dead ends. When we do find this specific tool (and at a price that our small shop can afford in these tough times), we can go full throttle and start taking on more orders for our encasement-happy friends. This hurdle has also affected the potential of long-overdue-but-planned projects. In fact, a number of people have recently asked us about the brand new species designs. Much to our dismay (especially Kat’s), the aforementioned dearth of these specific building tools results in us having to put our bright ideas on the back burner.
With shop pony putting his ass to the grindstone and us optimizing our processes in what small ways we can, its only a matter of time before we will announce an opening of our queue. Soon, we will happily begin taking hooded orders, even if it is on a case-by-case basis. If this kind of mask style is your fancy, I thank you in advance for remaining patient and dropping us a line at orders[at]wildgasmasks.com to let us know that you haven’t given up on us yet.

WGM Slowdown: Career related.
Posted 14 years agoHey all!
I just wanted to post and let folks know that due to a MASSIVE increase of undertakings at my 9-5, my Maskmaking is going to slow down a bit for the duration of the Winter: The company I work for is restructuring, and all the needed data and changes required from me by the new management are mostly relying on the information and abilities that sadly only I fully have access to; Mind you its not that I wanted it to be that way, rather thats the way it ended Up. Job security is Truly a double-edged sword at times...
Fortunately, thanks to Meddle Pony (a helpful rubberpony who lives close to the Jackal Lab) having successfully learned the craft, we Are able to continue some maskmaking: Otherwise we would have come to an almost complete stop as my 9-5 saps all my energy and creativity.
We've got one fully-custom commission that we are working on, and we will continue working on Simple orders for the time: Unfortunately, Hooded masks are considered "Custom" items as they require a custom fitting to the purchasers head and thus they take quite a bit of time to do; These we will only be able to do on an "As we are able to" basis, which will show up on the Orders page at wildgasmasks.com.
We still have plans on the table for several new Mask designs, which we are hoping to undertake through the course of the year as my leftover time and sanity allows.
We Do want to pass our thanks to all those whom have enjoyed the use of our handmade creations: Each is completely unique and no two are ever alike. On http://wildgasmasks.com there is a Gallery of owner-submitted photos which shows our masks in action: Browse and enjoy!

*faints* Overworked
Posted 14 years agoHey all! Just a note that I'm still alive, and that masks are Slowly being made these days: My 9-5 job has been eating quite a bit of my free time, and thus Ive had less time to get stuff out.
I Thank all the new Watchers that have been popping in to see the work, your presence is quite encouraging! I Still want to get the New masks done, m just having to rearrange my time and basically not do Anything on the weekends (Not that I can afford to anyway).
Thanks for watching, I hope to eventually have something worthy to put up!

catching up!
Posted 14 years agoslowly but surely i'm working through the backlog and finally getting caught up on things; materials have been bought, masks getting assembled, all while trying to keep a straight head on...
especially since im also running cabaret at califur this year!! that craziness has also gotta be dealt with in the middle of all the maskmaking.
anyhoo, sorry for typing like e.e.cummings right now, i'm typing this thru a vnc remote connection and for whatever reason the shift key aint working. am cutting and pasting the exclamation.
btw thank you for all the new watches and comments, just rarely have time to get on and say thanks directly!

Delays, Delays delays...
Posted 14 years agoAm still alive, still around and working on geting shells made...
but now, Materials aren't my delay anymore: Rather, its my Tools:
I had ordered last November two new busts to help me continue to work while I was still churning out orders... That fell through partially: The creators Carving machine broke, and they had only made One of the busts that I needed (I need a Bust with Shoulders). Am to Date still waiting on said bust, which the creator said that they Were making a mold of so they can cast more.
In the meantime, I'm working on making a mold of the existing 23" bust I Currently have, for the exact same reason. Which sadly means I cant make Hoods while the bust is still encrusted in Ultracal. I'm working on it, but it is taking time...
All this planning last year was SUPPOSED to keep me from getting to where I am now. Sometimes even the best laid plans get derailed.
Anyway, I have my prypoints cut out, so Soonish here it should be out and I should be working again!!

Comission Constipation...
Posted 15 years agoNormally I get a group of orders that is easy to work on: Regular masks are typical. Hooded masks are in general a pain, as building and grafting on the hood and zipper is a pain in itself, not to mention coating the entire mask for its final finish. Normally I end up with a hooded order every few months, so no big deal.
But This time I ended up with THREE long-hooded orders all at the same time!!! AUGH!!! Talk about chewing through rubber!!!
This Definitely slowed me down a bit, and m Gosh it feels like a chore (not as bad as doing Taxes still) but am working through it.

Computers alive again!
Posted 15 years agoAbout a week before Califur, my compy bit it: Something with the filesystem went wonky and ate my OS: Personal files were ok tho. As it was right before the big con that I was prepping for, I had no time to repair my comp.
FINALLY this week, After the Califur madness was over, I was able to get my compy up and running again. and BoyohBoy Ive got some catching up to do: Accounting is two months behind, Ive got to see where this one returning mask is at, and just get back into shape computerwise again!
