As StrongBad would say: "Holy Crap!" Thank you all!
Posted 15 years agoWow: Thanks to all the new Watchers that showed up after I put up the Dragon Mask, and to all those whom continue having interest in the work that I do!
I sure wish I could put stuff out faster, however the 9-5 sure saps my time and working with Liquid Latex is most definitely an exercise in patience!
There Will be more new doings as I continue plodding along with this crazy hobby of mine, and I thank you for following me on this wild journey!

Nosecup is Nosy!
Posted 16 years agoDragon is about halfway complete, had to come up with a usable nosecup for it. Should be attachable to the hood after the nosecup has been fitted, Once the hood is on, Scales!
    EL Jackal Video is up!
Posted 16 years agoNot too fancy, just a ditty Kat and I came up with to show it in action :) She's wearing it, I'm taking the video with a little Canon camera, and She mixed the Video!

Posted 16 years agoExperimentation Continues! New stuff in the works, The Subject heading of this journal should be a Big clue :) (And not quite in the first way one would associate with that phrase, although that Would be awesome too)
Meanwhile, The Halloween rush is here, getting a few masks out to people wanting them for the celebrations! It tickles me pink seeing all the wonderful suits people have built around the masks! A few bits of interesting Artwork has popped up which leaves me going "Wow!"
Anyhoo, heres molding!

Wow: A JG-2 in the LA Times today...
Posted 16 years agoThanks to Vawlkee pointing out that an image of one of my JG-2s made it into a strange montage of photos used in the Sundays printed E section, reviewing a book called "In the valley of Kings"!

Fighting for Time...
Posted 16 years agoIts wonderful that I finally got my 9-5 back: the thing that Majorly sucks tho is that work is taking up Alot more of my time!! because of this, mask creation work has slowed down quite a bit... and days at work seem to go by slower, and I'm REALLY appreciating weekends Much more than I used to, as they're the only time I have to do needed things for myself (Like house chores n stuff)...
If people thought I wasn't social before, or didnt see me enough, sadly this "new old job" is making it worse :/

House chore day...
Posted 16 years agoIts amazing how the sink is quiet when it doesnt drip water...
I took a bit of a break from most maskmaking for the majority of this sunday morning and did some house chores: Kat did the laundry, I fixed the drippy kitchen faucet that I've only had to change one other time since I moved in back in '97. Next I gotta Do: Accounting. Eww. I loathe it as much as some people loathe ironing. As I also loathe matching/rolling the socks together.
*sigh* If I had the molds made up I prolly coulda had some masks drying but I hadnt had the time to yet.
Ohwell, enough complaining and back to work! But only After some puzzle-pirating around to straighten the brain ;3

Experimenting!
Posted 16 years agoI got my potential Mane-making supplies in the other day: Will post up pics when I get something to show!
Also am tossing around an Idea: Taking one of my Skulls, adding lenses and attaching a rubber hood, and selling it as a "Skull Mask"... (Not a gas mask tho as theres no real place to mount valves)
I've got the ability to make a full set of latex finger-tip Claws too: Am thinking on starting those up as a side accessory that I can offer, specially since theyre so dang easy to make.
Many other plans still on the plate:
- Starting on the JG-3
- Redoing the core for the Cats to include an inner face seal
- Turning The Puppy mask I showed here the other day into a full-fledged gas mask,
- Letting Kat sculpt a Vulpine gas mask
Gotta Keep on truckin!!

Baffle!
Posted 16 years agoI discovered something about the mouth breathers:
Am having to create a Baffle inside the nose to separate intake from exhaust: Otherwise, the exhaled air will be inhaled right back in by the wearer! Sadly this is gonna increase the cost of the mouth breathers a bit due to this needed baffle.

    Working on Mouth-Breathing Horses!
Posted 16 years agoAm working on the O-boat for the Horses now (As named by Kat when she saw it and it reminded her of Operas 'O', its the Insert that allows the horse mask to have the intake and exhaust inside the nose/mouth)
Will be assembling the Mouthy horses here shortly once these O-boats are finished drying, and will take a picture of them when ready!

Something I realized I hadnt mentioned yet:
Posted 17 years agoThe horse that I poured last night is actually from Horse Mold #2... The First mold, which I mentioned was too small in an earlier journal, made me realize that I would not really be able to demo the final product as the result from Mold #1 would have been to small for me to wear. So, that same day I carefully transferred the horse sculpture over to My bust noggin, did a quick cleanup of the clay, resculpted the surface, and made a mold out of that. This second sized horse mask I call "Chief Big Horse", as it is designed for those of us with Enhanced Craniums. As soon as I save this journal, I Will be moving the pics off of my phone as I realize that it would be a VERY Bad Thing™ should I lose these photos, and then I'll post some pics of the progress here.
Horse mold #1 is still here, and the product that That mold will produce will be for the average-sized cranium, 22.5" and under. I will work on getting Mold#1 finished after FC, and after I pick up a new bag of Ultracal, as I'm completely out.

Horse is in...
Posted 17 years agoAfter a nice all-day Ultracal marathon, I managed to get the Horse mold completely done today, including the Ear mold for standard-sized Ears.
This Horse mold is actually the easiest to use yet most complex mold I've made to date, using everything I've been learning over the last three years of mask-making: There are two nostril plugs which I made to help facilitate pulling the mold halves off without tearing the nose apart, there are the steel Pry Points™ that I created and used in the edges of the mold which Really helped me be able to pry the two halves apart without damaging the mold itself, and the Core mold is a Two-part core that has three wooden dowels that can be removed to detach the two parts of the core mold at the face seal.
Heres the interesting thing: As soon as the ear mold was done (about 11:30 sat morn), I filled it. Just before I injected the latex into the horse mold, I checked the ears. Only 12 hours, and theyre done!!! Am hoping the same holds true for the horse mask itself, as its wall thicknesses aren't as thick as the Ears were!
Pics will come in as I get a chance to put them up, in the meantime I'm goin ta Sleep! Its 2:53am, and I know where my pillows are at!!!

Horse Mold is popped!
Posted 17 years agoI split open the Horse mold this morning: Came apart MUCH easier than any of my past efforts, only because I've applied everything I learned over the years. Pry Points™ help make Dinos Happy!
Quite a funny thing (to me at least) happened in prying off the mold: Upon pouring the right side of the mold, I had realized only afterwards that there was something I should have done to help me facilitate its removal, so I wont have to fight the clay trying to come off of the bust, as I wanted to try and keep the sculpt as intact as possible. Ohwell, so I applied this thought to the left side. Come today, when I pulled off the mold, I started with the left side, which theoretically should have been easy: The whole half of the sculpt came off when I pulled it off. It wasnt too bad, for it was a fairly clean separation
Of course, when I pulled off the Right side, which I thought was going to give me the most trouble, it gave me absolutely no trouble at all!!!!
This model is ending up being the smaller model, made for the more average sized head: Now with the mold off I was able to do some better comparisons between my noggin and it, and for me its a smidgen too small, meaning that it will fit everyone else ok. (Sadly I have an Extremely Huge Noggin™: the last time I bought a motorcycle helmet we had to special order one as the store didn't have anything that would fit me properly!!!) This is still better than what I have to do currently with the Jackals, where I currently have to add a face seal to the JG-2's as there were people mentioning that they weren't getting a good seal because the seal point was made for my size noggin. (I've also learned quite a bit from these early models: Watch or the newly revamped JG-3!!)
Fortunately as the sculpt remained fairly intact (although split in half right down the middle-ish left), I'll be transferring this over to My bust and making the appropriate adjustments to make it fit there. Overall, this is good, as that means I'll be able to better size the horses up or down to the wearers head. (Its more work for me, but ohwell!!)

I've been Jackaling Off!
Posted 17 years agoJackaling around all day keeps Stegos Mind at bay. (Except yesterday: Kat and I did a minor bit of housepainting, right before the HUUUUGE deluge of a downpour we had last night).
Current status of stuff:
- 2 masks ready to be assembled, waiting on parts (which will be ready Monday eve)
- Another Nearing completion
- A JG-2 for stocking Inventory was put into the mold today.
I like to refer to the molding process as "Capturing a Jackal", as the mold is the "Jackal Trap", and the latex is "Jackal Juice": Pour the Jackal Juice into the Jackal Trap, and in due time I've captured a Jackal!
Theres a White Cat I need to capture here real soon: I recently found what I was looking for (I hope), and so with the new supply of Juice I just got in, I think I should be able to catch me a snowmew...
Anyhoo, back to Jackaling!
