PSA: Just Because I Draw Porn...
Posted 10 years agoON BEHALF OF ALL WOMEN THAT DRAW PORN.
I draw porn. That does not mean:
-That I want to draw free porn for you.
-That I want you to make lewd comments at me.
-That I appreciate sexual jokes (honestly it just doesn't fit my humor).
-That I want to hear how you are going to fap at my work.
-That I want to cyber with you.
-That I want to have sex with you.
-That I want to have sex with anyone.
I draw porn of my character with other people's characters.
This does not mean:
-That I want to cyber with you as my character.
-That I want to draw my character with yours.
-That I would have sex with them in real life.
-That I would have sex with you in real life.
SOMETIMES I may decide I want to have sex with somebody.
In that case, I WILL EXPLICITLY TELL THEM.
Otherwise, it is not safe to assume that I want to have sex.
But as of right now, I'm really only interested in sexual action with my husband.
And maybe Ryan Reynolds.
Or Angelina Jolie.
I'm a female hentai artist.
That does not mean I'm open to anything sexual.
It only means I like drawing porn.
Thank you for understanding.
Copyright Laws for Artists
Posted 11 years agoJust sharing this quick bit of info, for any of you artists out there.
Or any art appreciator, actually! Just so you guys know what's what.
Extremely helpful bit of info!
http://www.redbubble.com/people/byr.....nd-dmca-part-1
Reminder: I keep all copyrights regarding all original character images I make.
That means I can share my works on other websites, or print them
in an artist's book. I have this right, by law, as the artist that created
the characters. In the case of commissions, where YOU own the character,
you have agreed by commissioning me to allow me to use the image of your
character for my personal portfolios or printed projects.
This is in my TOS, and has always been. This is just a friendly
reminder. If you ever want to commission me and want to keep rights
to the images, then you will need to pay an extra charge. Which is usually
double or triple the original price, because it then becomes your property, which
you could make money off of by printing, putting on merch, or sharing
on a paid site.
Critique is not Rude - Rant
Posted 12 years agoI've seen a theme with young artists here on FA. People posting loud red text on their page that they don't want you critiquing their art, and that it's rude.
Now, I don't go around critiquing other people's work, because I generally don't have the time. And I know that people feel this way about their art, so I don't want to piss them off.
But really, guys? Really? People pointing out that your anatomy here or there is wrong, or that your shadows could be darker, or this or that, is rude? It's so upsetting to you that you have artistic weaknesses that you don't want people to even mention them to you? Wow...
Being an artist is about always improving. Always learning. Always observing new things, and letting that effect your work. It's not about stagnating. By not accepting critique, you are stagnating.
Of course I understand the difference between, "Your art sucks!" and "You could have pushed the lighting a little further in this image to make it really pop!". I'm not condoning being a jackass, nor am I saying you should allow people to be a jack ass to you.
But in all honesty, if you want to go ANYWHERE professional with your work, you have to learn to take a critique. People critique your work in every artistic industry out there. Want to draw comics? Get used to critique. Want to animate, 3D model, fashion design, interior design, graphic design, architectural design? Get used to critique.
Critique is useful. It is good. If you want to be seen as a serious artist, get used to it. Learn to accept it graciously and use it to improve yourself.
If all you do is sit there and tell people to stop being mean to you for offering real tangible, good advice for your improvement as an artist, you just come off as unprofessional.
PS: I know I'm not the perfect artist. All of my art has a problem in one way or another (or many). I'm constantly learning and improving, so I know that I'm not perfect. But I've worked in multiple professional art fields and it is just so ridiculous to me that young people these days can't take a basic critique.

TMI Sex Meme: I'm bored and tired READ AT YOUR OWN RISK
Posted 12 years agoDON'T READ IT IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW. JUST BECAUSE I SHARE THIS INFO DOESN'T MEAN I WANT TO CYBER OR FLIRT WITH YOU. I AM JUST INDULGING MY VOYEURISM KINK RIGHT NOW.
1. Is there anyone on your friends list you would ever consider having sex with?
I don't know any of them enough to tell, yet.
2. Sex in the morning, afternoon or night?
Morning, afternoon, or early night. I get bitchy past 11pm.
3. What side of the bed do you sleep on?
When laying in it, I'm on the left.
4. Do you masturbate?
Yes. Did you know masturbating often makes it more likely that you will orgasm during intercourse? (Ladies).
5. How often? Lately?
Usually once a day. Lately once a week. That shit happens when I get my seasonal depression.
6. Have you ever taken your clothes off for money?
Nope, but I did consider being a stripper when I was younger. I'm too old, now.
7. Do you prefer showers or baths?
Baths, but I never have a good bath to take one in.
8. Have you ever had sex in the shower or the bath?
Usually once a week.
9. Do you watch/read pornography? With other people?
Watch it, read comics, draw it. Sometimes I watch or read it with my fiance, but that's rare.
10. Do you want someone aggressive or passive in bed?
Both? It depends on which I feel like being at the time.
11. Do you love someone on your friends list?
I do x) But mostly as like best friend love. My fiance is not on FA.
12. Do you know all the people on your friends list?
No, I don't. There's a lot of them.
13. Would you choose love or money?
I would choose love first. But I've chosen love 3 times in my life, and twice they've ended badly. So I told the world that if this relationship I'm in ends badly, I'm marrying for money next time. But I doubt it will end badly, he's my best friend.
14. Your top three favorite kinks in bed?
Incest role play, scary monster role play, rough sex.
15. Has anyone ever gone beyond your personal line of respect sexually?
Yeah, once. I retaliated pretty quickly and shut the whole thing down.
16. Where is the most romantic place you have had sex?
I wouldn't call anywhere I've had sex, "romantic."
17. Where is the weirdest place you have had sex?
In an alley in the city. Or behind a shed at my high school's football field. Both were with my first partner, we had a thing about doing it outside. And we're pretty lucky we got away with it, since we were minors. Could have really gotten in trouble.
18. Have you ever been caught having sex?
Oh god yes, worst experience of my life. My little sis (only by two years), decided it was a good idea to open the bedroom door and stare at my first partner and myself doing it. Then she was all traumatized and told my mom, and my cousin lectured me about it, and it was just bad. I feel bad for exposing her to that, but part of me wants to yell, "WHY OPEN THE FREAKING DOOR?"
19. Have you ever been to a strip club?
Not yet, but one day.
20. Ever been to a bar just to get sex?
No. I've always been with a partner or had a line of guys willing, so I didn't have to look. I don't mean to sound vain, that's just the truth of it.
21. Ever been kicked out of a bar or a club for sexual reasons?
Nope.
22. Ever been picked up in a bar?
I've had plenty of people try to, but no.
23. Have you ever kissed or had sex with someone of the same sex?
I had a female friend kiss my cheek when we were teens, trying to tell me she was inhabited by an evil spirit that stole part of my soul with a kiss. I also grabbed a girl's ass while she was making out with my fiance (we're semi-open). But no, I haven't done anything more than that. It's hard to find women who are willing to have threesomes with a man and woman in a committed relationship.
24. What's your sexuality?
I'd say I'm probably a 2 or 3 on the kinsey scale. I lean towards men, but there are definitely some ladies I'd like to romp with.
25. Had sex in a movie theater?
Nah, I'm usually too interested in the movie.
26. Had sex in a bathroom?
Does the shower count?
27. Have you ever had sex at work?
Never in a work place. I work from home often, though, and I've had plenty here.
28. Have you ever been in an "adult" store?
Lol "adult." Do we mean like sexual toys, outfits, etc.? If so, yes. I've never been in an adult porn store though.
29. Bought something from an adult store?
My dildo scares my fiance. He says it looks like a giant pink alien.
30. Do you own any sex toys?
Yes.
31. If yes, how many and what are they?
I don't have much money so I have one vibrating dildo thing, which I treated myself to when I was in a long distance relationship with my now fiance.
32. Does anyone have naughty pics of you or are you on film?
My ex MIGHT still have some video or pictures. I hope not, they'll probably be all over the internet if he does. And my fiance has some.
33. Have you ever had sex with someone and called them the wrong name?
One time I almost did. But I made sure, "Jason," came out as, "Jesus," instead.
34. Have you ever had phone sex?
I tried it once it's not my thing.
35. Have you ever had cyber sex?
I've tried it a few times, it's not my thing.
36. Do you think oral sex constitutes a form of intercourse?
Intercourse means intercourse. Do I think oral sex constitutes sexual activities comparable to intercourse? Yes. Am I going to flip shit if my fiance gets a blow job from another girl? Probably not, as long as he was safe and told me he was wanting to get sexual with somebody else.
37. What's your favorite sexual position?
That position like doggy style, but you're both laying down on one side and spooning. It can be difficult to maneuver, but I like being held.
38. What's your favorite sex act?
Telling sexual fantasy stories to my partner in the middle of intercourse.
39. Have you ever had sex with more than one person at a time?
Yes. I should upload that picture (I painted a picture of it).
40. Who do you think has the guts to re-post this
Brave people. Or people with no shame.
1. Is there anyone on your friends list you would ever consider having sex with?

Tutorials I Love
Posted 12 years agoI got distraceted by some tutorials posted on one of
Aimi's journals. Then I got distracted looking at more tutorials. And now I'm going to get distracted by sharing my favorite tutorials with all of you.
This painting walk through was really cool, more found on the second link:

Advice for Artists
Posted 12 years agoI want to start this off by saying thank you to my friends and watchers who posted their support in my last journal. It gives me hope that I have such good watchers and friends :) You guys are awesome. Anyway, that journal inspired my fiance and myself to put together a list of business tips for artists when we were on our 2.5 hour drive home. We had nothing but talking to do, and we figured it would be a good thing to think about. So here are my business tips for artists! Feel free to add your own, in the comments section. You can also share this info in your journal, if you want to spread it around to encourage other artists.
Advice for Artists
1) Setting a precedent: Your actions as an artist set a precedent for your future as an artist. If you let people take advantage of you as a starting artist, in the commission world, what does that do? It teaches people that they can take advantage of you. AND, more importantly, it teaches you that you aren't worthy, and that people can take advantage of you. It puts you in an unhealthy mind set, which will hurt you later in life. If you let a commissioner walk all over you, your future boss will walk all over you. Don't let them! Get brave!
2) Have a business mind. This is your business, you aren't just doing favors of art for people. Since it's your business, act like it's a business. You need to have a thorough TOS, which addresses any and all circumstances. You need to make sure to post expectations, pay times, requirements, etc., in every single post you make. Maybe even have contracts, or use Paypal invoices. Make your artwork your business, and make it look as legit as possible. Having all of this set up before hand will make it easier to say no to pushy commissioners.
3) It's never, "can I," it's, "I will." Remember, you are the skilled craftsman. You are the artist. People want your art. You are performing the service, so you set the rules. If a customer pays you to do one thing, and demands more, it's never, "Can I do this instead?" It's, "I can offer you this extra feature for this extra amount." You are the one providing a valuable commodity. You are in control.
4) Commissioners come and go. Commissioners also tend to attract other commissioners with similar mindsets to them. So, if you are working with somebody that is absolutely terrible, and that you don't want to work with, finish their art and never work with them again. Or refund them, if you can, and don't work with them. Your art will bring in more people, don't compromise your mental health for the bad apples. It doesn't matter if you lose a commissioner who is rude, disrespectful, and terrible to work with.
5) You can't rely on your commissions alone until you are very established in the community. I know we all want to just make a living off of our art. I would love that. But it's not a reasonable dream until you have a huge fan base, with ever-rotating people who have excess funds. Until then, any artist should have at least a part time job to help supplement their art income. That way, they don't feel forced to work with bad people.
6) Spread your name around. If you want to make money, you need to advertise. You need to pay the $20 a month to advertise here on FA, and MORE IMPORTANTLY, you need to make friends with everyone on FA. Do collabs, do art trades, make gifts for people, advertise for people in need, donate art for people in need. Get your name out there.
7) Lowering your price de-values your work. Literally. Popular and quality artists charge more, unpopular and unskilled artists charge cheap. You want to look popular, to become popular. People pay for brands, images, names. If they see a cheap price, they won't think you're as good as somebody who charges more. So charge what you think is fair, and don't lower it to get more people. It won't work.
8) You have to watch your own back. Pretty much nobody else will. Well, okay, SOME people will! But it's rare. And in your life, you aught to be #1.
I've been taking commissions for almost 10 years, since I was 16 years old. Nobody has ever taken advantage of me, pressured me for free or more art (other than close friends, and do they really count?), or made me feel inferior or worthless. That's because I live by these tips. I take care of myself. And I know I'm not the best or most skilled artist (by a long shot), but I believe in myself. If you want to be successful, you need to believe in yourself too!

Rant about Classless Commissioners
Posted 12 years agoTHIS DOES NOT APPLY TO MY LOVELY COMMISSIONERS. MY COMMISSIONERS ARE AWESOME.
Note: This rant is from a professional artist's point of view. I've worked in the graphic design and gaming industry for years. So I understand the value of art, and how much work it takes to produce something. My opinions are formed from working in a professional environment with other professionals, and seeing how people interact with commissioners on a professional level. So if you don't agree with my views, consider that perhaps you don't truly understand the industry.
This was inspired by a horrendous commissioner of a friend of mine's. Like seriously, you guys. Commissioners like this suck, and should be ashamed of themselves.
So, the artist this pertains to did a special on commissions. You would get a full body experimental art, in color, no background, for $20. That is actually an AMAZING deal, especially for her quality and skill level. This person is a professional illustrator, has a successful web comic, and is currently getting a BA in animation. A price of $20 is a fantastic price.
The commissioner in question paid the artist for the commission, and then started demanding that the artist include a background. A background which was stated would not be included, and none of the samples for the special included background. This artist is a very sweet person, and didn't want to make their commissioner mad by not doing a background.
But I told them that the first thing an artist needs to do is watch out for themselves. In this industry, people will walk all over you if they can. People will demand things they haven't paid for, they'll try to make you work for way too little, and they'll make you feel like shit. What does that do? It makes the artist work exponentially more, for exponentially less in pay. It puts the artist in an even harder financial state (because 90% of us are not rich). It hurts the artist, it hurts their reputation, and it gives a selfish, childish person free art.
So my friend messaged the commissioner that backgrounds aren't included with the commission price, but that they could pay $10 more for a background and the artist would gladly draw one for them. I feel that that is a fair way to state it. $10 is a reasonable charge for a background. It's what I charge. There are no issues here.
But that classless person had the gall to write a paragraph rant back to my friend, stating why they shouldn't and wouldn't pay more for the background. I haven't seen this rant yet, but I can tell you this: It is bull shit. Bull. SHIT. There is absolutely no reason why a skilled artist shouldn't get paid for their work. Absolutely none.
This artist has let people do this to them multiple times. One time, somebody paid them FIVE DOLLARS for a full body, full colored chibi. It took hours to complete. That is working for maybe $2 an hour. The artist finished it, and then the commissioner said that the line quality was not the same, so the artist redid the entire commission! When they only got paid $5! I would have only touched up the line art. Yes, this is partially the artist's fault, and yes, I would want the lines touched up if I bought art. But the person who commissioned the artist was lucky to get ANYTHING for $5. Much less a full body colored chibi.
THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE GUYS. UNACCEPTABLE. Nobody should ever treat an artist this way. No artist should be made to feel that their art is shit and worth nothing.
If you agree with me, please post a comment saying so, so that my artist friend can see that they're being taken advantage of. That the way they're being treated is wrong. And that they need to start standing up for themselves.
