Posted 10 years agoalright The penny a second thing works great but I realized very quickly prices will skyrocket just after an hour. so you got a choice now.
stick with the penny a second deal for ALL art types
>price cut to 1/2 a penny a second for 3+ characters
>simple BG is free, landscape is not

These set prices are cheaper in the long run than what it would be with the penny a second deal, however if you'd rther pay what something is worth by how long it takes, I would recommend the penny a second deal.

long story short im in the shitter.
commissions are now going to be charged by time spent working on them, not by a range of prices. price is $0.01 a second. a penny a second. that's $18 for a half hour, regardless of the complexity of the piece I've done. This means you can get top quality work for surprisingly cheap, if I finish something fast enough. not that I'm going to cut quality for speed.
I have a spreadsheet thing to keep track of commissions and a cash clock app to keep track of time-rate for commissions.
I WILL DRAW LITERALLY EVERYTHING
HOWEVER if it involves minors/cub porn, I will not. if I cannot upload it to ANY website, I will not draw it. it's not a matter of me being judgmental, it's a matter of me WANTING to be able to post my art. why would I wanna draw something I can't show off? so that's the only rule.

Posted 11 years agoI don't think I'll be doing commissions ever again. not like a negative thing here. It's just...well...after being gone so long, my life has gotten to a point where I'm financially stable now. I don't NEED to do commissions. sure like, I will do them once in a while if I get the drive. but its not a necessity anymore.
what I plan to mostly do is, when I feel the need, is draw stuff spontaneously for other people. you know, gift friends and stuff, IF I feel like it. yesterday I certainly did.
It is waaay more relaxing doing something on my own. like I always knew it but I was able to draw that light and shadow pic and felt totally accomplished without any king of stressy feels.

Posted 11 years agoI woke up feeling EXTRA SUPER DUPER FANTASTIC so I cleaned the house. all that's left is putting away my clean laundry and sweeping/mopping the floors~ well that and wiping off the kitchen counters cuz they nasty but I'm gonna do that tomorrow to get me in the working mood. I'm too tired now after fighting with the vacuum today. I think one of the wheels got hair wrapped around it or something, it was tough to push, but it did a stellar job after the super cleaning I gave the dust container thingy it has a good thorough cleaning.

as soon as I got it working I started doing free pony OC sketches for the people on F-list that were present and wanted one, because I knew I was out of practice and was too excited for the thing to work to try and focus on heavier commissions. also it was like 11pm and I wanted to work on something I could finish quickly, and pony sketches was perfect
tomorrow I need to clean my apartment, I will not be returning to commissions then, but I will on tuseday first thing in the morning.

ok I know one things for sure, my pain is increasing lol. but thats what happens when I work two 12/13 hour days side by side. I gotta rquip myself with my back braces and better shoe insoles.
I know as well that I will have less time for commissions now. I'm going to do my best to do some art even if I can only draw one day a week. my friend who got my tablet correctly installed the first time is going to be coming over on tuesday to fix it for me again, since I seem to be totally incapable no matter what I do.
if I can't get it fixed, then commissions will either be *eventually* refunded, and/or I will use part of my first paycheck from pooches to buy yet another tablet. and this time a fucking bamboo. Huion is fan-fucking-tastic, for real, but if it breaks so quickly I'm gonna have a problem.
on an unrelated note, since a certain someone has been kind enough to pay my electric for two months, saving me several hundred dollars(damn fucking cold), I can pay off my other bills and debts without problem!
though I'm left with $16 for groceries this coming month, till my next paycheck. at least I can finally get milk. I know someone had sent me a few dollars generously in order to almost personally buy me milk, but it sat in my paypal instead of being used lol. hey, without that $5, I'd only have $11 for groceries. it's gonna get used.
today I'm going to watch movies and clean the FUCK out of my apartment. all this double shifting I've done the last few days has caused me to not be able to do laundry or clean up the house or vacuum or even pck up my dogs shit cuz I've been so tired.
then later today I have to hit the ATM, make money orders, and go pay my rent and water bills and the other fees I have. then back to cleaning till I have to go to work tonight.
aaaaaug I'm not doing laundry till tuesday or wednesday. I really can't be bothered when the price of laundry goes up on the weekend.
So yeah I'll keep everyone posted! I should be able to draw tomorrow before work, assuming my house is clean by then, and assuming my tablet suddenly behaves.

it works for maybe a minute as it should, and then for some reason it switches to mouse mode and I lose all pressure and control.
I don't know what to fucking do, I've been fighting with it all fucking morning

one of my coworkers will be moving in with me when my lease is up. we still have to go through the whole process and save some money and all, but this is GREAT NEWS. he's really determined to make it happen because it will be great help for both of us in more ways than one.
plus I know him and he's gay so I don't have to worry about nothing scary happening. he's like hardcore gay.
this gives me incredible peace of mind. I just have to catch the FUCKING FRONT OFFICE WHEN ITS OPEN GODDAMN I HATE THE NEW COMPLEX OWNERS FUCK YOU GUYS
we went to the front office yesterday to start asking about an apartment upgrade and prices and shit, AND THEY WERE FUCKING CLOSED FOR REMODELING.
SERIOUSLY.
YOUR OFFICE IS CLOSED ON SUNDAY WHY DIDNT YOU FUCKING REMODEL THEN YOU ASSHOLES.
but that aside, in a few months time, if everything goes well, I'll have a nice new apartment in the same area and will only be paying half of everything <3

Posted 11 years agoI've been working a lot more this week due to a ton of people calling in or simply not showing up. so my back has been killing me way harder than normal.
I'm getting a back brace thing soon, but won't be drawing again till I get it in the mail, hopefully a week from now. It just hurts too much to lean over the tablet like that.
I mean, I'm going to TRY to draw in the morning, because I really need to keep things moving, but I might not draw for long.
I mean I'm flopped on the couch with a pillow under me and my back is still hurting badly.
I ain't got any kind of insurance or money to pay for any kind of doctor check up, so that's out of the question.
so please bare with me, I'm sorry for the delays, but health is health.

I mean, I'm going to TRY to draw in the morning, because I really need to keep things moving, but I might not draw for long.
I mean I'm flopped on the couch with a pillow under me and my back is still hurting badly.
I ain't got any kind of insurance or money to pay for any kind of doctor check up, so that's out of the question.
so please bare with me, I'm sorry for the delays, but health is health.
on an unrelated note, new Sonic the Hedgehog tv show + game coming out, called Sonic Boom, and I am totally obsessed with the new designs. tall buff knux is going to take some getting used to, but the characters are totally adorbs. http://oi58.tinypic.com/rmjlso.jpg will probably draw sonic as a warm up tomorrow because I really want to. or knux. cuz he still looks hella cool
I saw a sample clip of the show, and sonic is just as snarky and sarcastic and sassy as he was in his ORIGINAL ORIGINAL series. which makes me hella happy! cutie blue hedgehog, you've brought back the dork in me.

Posted 11 years agoI'm going to save the commission info and ref pics of the next lab rat commission, and then I' going to go play my game.
cuz I'm going into work 2 hours early today in order to get an easy ride, but will be there, you know, a whole 2 hours early. I'll work on a lab rat commission then. this way I can focus better and have something to do later.
but I just can't focus right now. I feel like I'm still half asleep despite having been awake for 3 hours

price changes in the near future
Posted 11 years agoI'm going to be changing the whole process of how I price my commissions. prices will be going up in due to this process change
commissions currently on the waiting list will not be affected by this price change even if the change is official before their commission is complete
I'll be straight with everyone. my commissions are cheap. yeah. that's why I'm so popular with the handful of regulars I have. but there's a problem with that. I am underselling myself. as much as I enjoy being a generous person and working for less than my art is worth in terms of time and effort-which has been getting longer and more in depth as of late- my job is not supporting me, and I'm not getting enough from my commissions.
lab rat prices will be going up as well. nearly each of the labrats nowadays has been fully shaded with background, which was entirely my decision.
but they are worth way more than $10 at that quality. that's just...
I'm struggling to keep my bills paid. even doing commissions here and there I'm not living. I'm just barely surviving. I still don't have a car. I haven't been able to buy groceries. I coudn't even pay my waterbill today because I had to empty my bank account for rent. I have about $30 to my name.
you can expect base prices to rise a good chunk. for some commissions I may charge by how long it takes to do them rather than by a base price. maybe.
as an example, full color shaded commissions currently are $25 base price. they may rise to $35. that's still pretty cheap compared to the crazy prices other artists have just for rough sketches.
please understand that I need these commissions to survive. but they aren't helping enough at the current prices.
so you can continue to support me if you want, or stop commissioning me.
up to you. but I'm doing what I need to in order to not get evicted or have my services shut off
