Taking Requests Again (and commission update)
General | Posted 12 years agoHaving an issue with the bank that's keeping me from setting up commissions. So until that gets resolved, I'm temporarily taking requests again.
PLEASE READ THE GUIDELINES:
1 or 2 characters max
no background
black and white
cleaned up sketch quality
Leave a comment or send me a private message with the details.
Please specify if you want to remain anonymous when the picture is posted.
If I accept the idea, I'll send a reply letting you know.
Picture will be posted in my gallery within one week of my reply.
If I do not respond immediately, it's likely because:
-I'm dealing with a high volume of requests, -or-
-Your request does not fall within the guidelines (again, please read them)
I reserve the right to accept or refuse any request.
If there are certain details you aren't sure about, feel free to ask.

Status Update 6/11/2013
General | Posted 12 years agoI realize my uploads have slowed down lately. But I've been spending more time practicing and studying art so hopefully my own work will get better. Thank you for all the positive feedback I've gotten for the Ask Horn Warmer Twilight series. I have one more overdue request to finish [Edit: DONE!], and then I'll get back to the comics.
Also, I'm hoping to get something set up for commissions sometime this week (or possibly next). I've already put together a list of potential prices, but for those who might have missed my earlier journal about it, I'm still looking for feedback from you fine watchers to see what you might be willing to pay.
Incidentally, if you think that I shouldn't do commissions, that's important too. Please be honest, and tell me why. Thanks again.

So I Just Met Tara Strong
General | Posted 12 years agoYup, there's a convention going on this weekend, which is why I haven't been as active the last few days. Big thanks to my friend Dari for getting me a full weekend pass for that. Otherwise, I definitely wouldn't be able to go.
So yeah, I got to meet Tara Strong for the first time (pardon me while I try to crowbar the smile off my face). She's very nice. If you've seen any of the videos of her panels on Youtube, she's the exact same way in person. For the most part, it wasn't a big deal (aside from her being one of my all-time favorite voice over artists, long before MLP). Got a few autographs and such. From briefly talking to her and watching her panels, though, I was able to get a couple of tidbits of information.
First, confirming something I'd previously heard on the FOB Equestria podcast, she is no longer appearing at first-year brony conventions following what happened at Unicon. She also mentioned that one of her kids had a martial arts tournament that weekend, and on top of everything that happened at the convention, it was upsetting for Tara that she couldn't be there to support her son.
Considering that my state is getting its own brony convention this year, it's disappointing to know that Tara won't be there, but certainly understandable.
The second bit of info that she shared at her panel relates to Equestria Girls. While many people in the fandom have been against the upcoming movie, feeling that it's just Hasbro's attempt to grab more money from the Monster High audience, Tara's take is that it was actually inspired by the humanized pony artwork from the fandom. In other words, this movie that's being accused of alienating the adult fans is actually being made as a nod to those same fans.
Not sure if I agree with that completely, but I am still looking forward to the movie.
Anyway, just felt like sharing that. One more day of this convention to go, and I'll get back to posting artwork. Seeya!

Commissions Coming - Feedback Requested
General | Posted 12 years agoSometime in the near future (potentially within the next several weeks), I'm planning to start taking commissions. I'll be doing some research to help figure out pricing and overall guidelines that will be fair. But I also want to hear from those watching me. How much would you be willing to pay for my work?
Here are some recent examples for quick reference:

Sudden Power Loss Makes Artwork Fun
General | Posted 12 years agoFirst off, something good. Obviously, I've been much more productive with my artwork lately, and I absolutely want to thank everyone who's watched me and continued to give me feedback. I've always drawn out of genuine enjoyment, but you people are the reason I've begun pushing myself so hard.
So, onto today's events. Set up my tablet, start working on a new comic strip. I figure I'll do a couple more of these and then get back to some requested pictures that I've had on the back burner for far too long. Typically, my previous comics have only taken a couple of hours to finish, but today, I'm working on a somewhat ambitious comic which features a small crowd scene (about 11 characters altogether). After three hours of sketching, line work, and coloring, a sudden power shortage comes along (which almost never happens here).
Nothing saved. Have to start over from scratch. Think I'll go take a few deep breaths and distract myself for a while before coming back to it. Might work on the same comic, might just work on something else instead.

Good News/Bad News
General | Posted 12 years agoYeah, I suck at titles today, but anyway...
Good news is, I'm feeling like I'm finally getting back into the groove of drawing.
Bad news is, well, some of you have seen the subject material I've been leaning towards lately. Honestly, that was never meant to be the direction I wanted my work to go into. Unfortunately, life has been sucking hard lately (not in a good way), and my creative headspace has been going to some very dark places (the latest pic I just uploaded isn't even close to the worst idea I've had).
I will seriously try to make something nicer (again, I really really DON'T want to be known for the stuff I've drawn lately). I'm just in a very confusing/frustrating/don't-even-know frame of mind at the moment. Again, thank you to everyone who's stuck around this whole time.

Sorry for the Silence
General | Posted 13 years agoI'm not a fan of drama. Whatever problems I have in real life, I've tried to keep this separate, to make my online gallery a place where everyone could just have a good time. Unfortunately, life has decided to dump all kinds of drama on me over the past few months. I won't go into detail, but suffice it to say, I'm in a very bad place right now, and it's absolutely killed my motivation to draw. I've only recently been able to update my videos on youtube again, only because it's slightly easier for me to talk into a microphone.
REGARDING REQUESTS
Anyone who has already submitted a request will still be considered, and I will push to get those pictures finished as soon as I can. I'm truly sorry for making you all wait so long. Beyond that, I won't be accepting any new requests for the time being. Again, sorry.
Thank you all for understanding, and I hope I'll be able to get back to making more fun material soon.

Working on Requests Tonight
General | Posted 13 years agoAnd possibly recording another script for Youtube.
Mostly been on a writing kick lately. Gonna get back to a bit of arting tonight.

Working on a Review Tonight
General | Posted 13 years agoSorry again for lack of updates. Been feeling very lethargic and crappy lately. But as someone just pointed out on my Youtube channel, the MLP Season 3 premiere is almost upon us, and I still have at least one more episode to review from Season 2. I really want to try to pull it together and get that review done before the new season.
As for Season 3 reviews, I probably won't try to review each episode the same week it comes out, like I initially tried to do with Season 2. Overall, I find that I can collect my thoughts better with a little extra time. Plus, I want more time to devote to other projects as well. Anyway, to the recording booth! *walks two feet to retrieve a microphone, then back again*

Slowly Getting Back to Work
General | Posted 13 years agoSorry for the recent silence. And thank you for the well wishes, and to the new watchers who have shown up.
The health issue still isn't resolved yet, but from what I can gather, it's pretty mild. So, while I continue to try and find out how to fix it, I'm going to start getting back to art, reviews, and requests. Progress might be slow for the time being, but once again, I'm very thankful to everyone for being patient.

Temporarily Halting Artwork
General | Posted 13 years agoWith apologies to those who have made requests recently. I'm dealing with a bit of a health scare at the moment, and it's made it increasingly difficult to concentrate on drawing. I won't go into details, but I'm really hoping that it's not as serious as I'm afraid it might be, and that I'll be able to return to a normal schedule soon. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Taking Requests Again - NEW RULES
General | Posted 13 years agoBeen dealing with some major schedule changes lately, while still trying to take on a number of other projects. So in order to keep things fair for everyone, the request guidelines have been tightened up a bit.
New Request Guidelines:
-Toon/Parody only (no OCs)
-2 character max
-Minimal background, if any
-Single image (no comic strips)
-Black and white only (though you are welcome to color a picture yourself if you'd like)
-Yes, non-pony requests are okay
-Mature-themed requests are okay, so long as they're within the acceptable terms of the site
How to Make a Request:
1. Leave a comment or send me a note with your idea
2. If you'd prefer to remain anonymous, send a note specifying that you would like to remain anonymous/not have your name credited when the picture is posted
3. If I accept your request, I will reply BEFORE I start drawing. I will try to have each picture done within a week (tops) of the reply.
4. When the picture is finished, it will be posted in my gallery, and I will send another reply letting you know that it's done
And Please Remember:
There is no limit on the number of requests you can make, but please try to keep it reasonable.
I reserve the right to refuse/reject any request.
I'm assuming you are all mature and responsible enough to read these guidelines. Any request that doesn't fall within the guidelines will automatically be rejected.

Done with Requests (For Now)
General | Posted 13 years agoLeaving this as a reminder and for clarification. I am officially done taking requests for the time being. I'll probably start up again in a few weeks (I'll make another journal entry to let everyone know when that happens). You are still welcome to submit your ideas if you'd like, and I'll look at them when I'm able to take requests again. Thank you. In the meantime, I'll be creating more of my own original art for everyone to enjoy!
Request Progress
General | Posted 13 years agoThank you all again for your support and understanding. Just a quick progress report: Right now, I'm working on 11 requests! At this moment, I have rough sketches finished for about half of them. After I post the current batch, I'm probably going to take a short break from requests to focus on my own art. It won't be a terribly long break, probably a week or two while I get some of my own ideas out of my system. So of course, I encourage everyone to continue posting their ideas! As always you have been a tremendous help to my creative process, and I can't express how much happier I've become because of this experience. I can't say it enough, thank you!
On the Subject of Adult Art
General | Posted 13 years agoThose watching me have undoubtedly noticed that my material has taken a decidedly more adult turn in the last few days. It's something that I have certainly spent time thinking about, especially since I'm mostly known for doing funny, teasing/suggesting work until now. The comic strip that I drew (with the same title as this journal) was a partial attempt at expressing this while still being silly and fun. The fact is, I do enjoy adult artwork, I do consider it to be "real" art, and I respect many artists who make it for being immensely talented.
But while there is nothing wrong with it objectively, it's unfortunately true that many people still judge porn artists negatively. It takes a very strong person to face such criticism and truly say that they don't care what anyone else thinks.
Perhaps it's because I live in a very restrictive environment, but expressing myself on these matters doesn't always come naturally, and I do care what people think. I personally have lost at least one watcher recently, and while I respect your decision to do what you like, I hope you'll understand that it has never been my intention to flat-out offend anyone.
I hope you'll also understand that I approach the request pictures purely as artistic challenges. They do not always reflect my personal interests, though I do get a sense of satisfaction from drawing them well, and I'm always happy when the person making the request is satisfied.
That being said, my recent exploration into more adult territory has felt incredibly liberating. I completely intend to continue making my usual material that's funny and cute, but I'll also continue to explore adult material whenever it suits me or someone requests it.
On the subject of My Little Pony specifically, I know that Rule 34 Pony art has been especially controversial lately. First, anyone who watches my MLP reviews on Youtube will know that I do like the show for its own merits. There are times when I seriously overthink the hell out of it. But I also happen to enjoy a lot of the 34 pony art out there. I'm truly sorry if this bothers anyone or changes their perception of me. Again, I'm not out to step on anyone's toes or force anyone to watch something that they don't like. But this feels like an opportunity for me to open up more and express myself more honestly, at least in a place where it's somewhat appropriate.
I am incredibly thankful to everyone who has continued to watch, comment, and otherwise support my work throughout this. I'll get back to working on requests in the next day or two.

Just a Friendly Reminder
General | Posted 13 years agoYes, I am still taking requests.
I'd just like to offer a gentle reminder to please read the guidelines spelled out in my "Taking Requests" journal.
It's even been updated to address common questions/issues that have come up, so even those who've read it previously might want to take another look.
(for example: yes, you can make multiple requests!)
Thank you to everyone who has made a request so far. Many of you have really challenged me to grow as an artist, suggesting material that I might not have had the imagination to come up with on my own.
If you've made a request, but haven't gotten a picture yet, there's a good chance that I'm working on it right now. Some of you have suggested really unique material that has taken me longer to try and figure out or practice with.
Again, thank you all!

Taking Requests - UPDATE
General | Posted 13 years agoYup, I feel like doodling, and I'm taking requests.
Have an idea for something you'd like to see me draw? Leave a comment with the details. If I accept the idea, I'll respond letting you know, and the results will be posted in my gallery.
Pics will be:
Black and white, sketch or line art quality
Single image (no comic strips)
3 character max
OCs are fine as long as I have a good idea of what they look like.
PLEASE BE DESCRIPTIVE
Making a request like "Draw my OC" is fine, but if you aren't more specific, well... Let's just say it'll be up to my imagination... My horribly questionable imagination. Oh my, yes.
UPDATE:
Just some extra things to keep in mind:
There is no limit for making requests (though again, I still have to approve the idea).
Depending on the current number of requests, complexity, or due to my day job, other projects, etc., I cannot always guarantee that everyone will get a picture.
If you wish to remain anonymous, you can send me a private note with your request.
And please, DO NOT request an OC that does not belong to you.
About NSFW Art
Yes, you are welcome to request an adult themed picture.
I gave this a lot of consideration because I didn't want to offend those who watch me for my cute/funny/suggestive pictures, and because frankly, I'm a bit afraid that the result will be as appealing as Gilbert Gottfried reading Fifty Shades of Grey. But fundamentally, I don't see anything wrong with adults enjoying adult things, and there are many adult artists whose skills I admire, so I'm willing to give this a shot and see how it goes.

Status/Commission Update
General | Posted 13 years agoAfter going nearly a month without officially uploading anything, I really wanted to talk about what's been going on. Basically, I was sick for a few weeks, and now I'm trying to get back into the groove of things. At times, it can feel a bit overwhelming, considering how many different projects I'm trying to catch up on. But rest assured, new work is coming as quickly (but reasonably) as I can manage.
To the people who have asked me about commissions:
This has come as a big surprise to me. I still consider my work to be at an amateur level, so it's really flattering and humbling to see people actually asking me to do commissions. Unfortunately, I don't have any kind of system set up for accepting commissions at this time. All of my work is basically done as practice or for fun during whatever free time I happen to have. And as I stated above, I'm currently swamped with other projects at the moment. However! If there's a specific idea you would like to see me draw, feel free to run it by me. Some of you have had really fun ideas that I would absolutely consider once my current To Do list isn't so huge!
Thank you all for continuing to watch and support my work! I hope to have more stuff to share with everyone soon!

Update and New MLP Review
General | Posted 14 years agoI'm currently working on a couple of comic strips based on "A Friend in Deed." They're taking a bit longer to finish than my last submission, so in the meantime, here's my latest episode review:

Thoughts on the Derpy controversy
General | Posted 14 years agoI have added the following paragraph to the description of my picture "Derpy Thunder." I decided to also post it in a journal because frankly, this subject has given me a lot to think about personally and artistically, and I wanted to just make sure my thoughts on this were made clear:
I would never take down a piece of artwork as long as there is someone out there who appreciates it, but given the current controversy surrounding Derpy's appearance in The Last Roundup, I have to admit that I now feel like kind of an ass for making this picture. Often with FiM, there are moments where I'm not sure how to feel at first, but end up growing on me later. Derpy's scene with Rainbow Dash is one of those moments. It surprised me at first to hear how the character sounded, but I would NEVER ask them to change her just because a few people were unfortunately and unintentionally offended.

Update for 1/14/2012
General | Posted 14 years agoDelays, delays...
So, over the last week, the universe seems to have conspired to keep me from getting anything done. First, my work hours doubled, making sure that I didn't have any time to do any drawing until Tuesday. Then, immediately afterward, I came down with a cold. Luckily, I was able to get one picture done before my sore throat turned into a full-blown fever.
The real shame of it is, I had so many projects planned last week: a video for Youtube, more pics for the new MLP episode, and more recently a request from one of my viewers (seriously, that has me feeling incredibly flattered)
Thank you to everyone who's been watching, and everyone who's continued to leave positive feedback for my work. Right now, it really helps more than you know.
In the meantime, sorry for the delays. All I can do for now is wait for my health to recover, and then I'll be back to pumping out new artwork.

Hearth's Warming Update
General | Posted 14 years agoOver the last week, I originally wanted to finish a lot more pictures. But the holiday season being what it is, I just got too busy to get much drawing done. Things should start to pick up later today, after all the working and gifting and such has settled down. And of course, whatever everyone is celebrating, I hope you make the day special.
Update for 11/26/2011
General | Posted 14 years agoWork has really been wiping me out this week. Really didn't help that I had to work a closing shift Wednesday night at one job, then opening shift Thursday at the other job. Pretty much been recovering from Zombie Mode ever since. Thankfully, I wasn't hit that hard by Black Friday. I avoided the midnight crowds in favor of staying warm at home, but I still managed to pick up a few nice things later in the day.
I've managed to start working on a new batch of pics, though. So I should have a lot of new material going up soon (and that's not even taking the new FiM episode into account). This week, I plan to work harder on going beyond sketching and actually doing more finished lines and color. Thanks again to everyone who's been watching and faving my work. That kind of thing seriously makes me want to keep drawing and improving.
Oh, and just as a little side note, I've noticed that with all the extra drawing I've been doing lately, my handwriting has actually gotten noticeably neater. That's kind of an interesting side effect, and one that I certainly don't mind.
