So much worrrrk + music/art updates
Posted 13 years agoAnd so much wasted little time to do it.
What with dying relatives, lack of sleep, college, commissions, overdue birthday presents, mild memory loss from things I'd like to not explain, and a chicken who appears to be losing feathers, and a cat with tonsilitis (the cat's okay now)... this is turning out to be a very busy month.
I'll be getting around to finishing straitis' and pepsi's commissions, and will mostly be doing all the requests/art trades towards the end of my schedule. Sorry about this guys, I'd like to be able to do everything sooner but unfortunately circumstances seem to be getting in the way.
As for music, I'm slowly working on a BlackStatic/Dissonant Rhapsody combined album, which will be released over on Hybrid Hardkore's bandcamp. I may throw in a few song covers/remixes again as well, but I'll be focusing mostly on improving my original material. So stay tuned, I'll keep posting updates as I work towards another end-of-year production.
Once again, sorry for all the delays with anything I owe you.

Rethinking my music + alias discussion
Posted 13 years agoEDIT: Thinking of going through with it. I may just call dibs on my dark music being under an alias of "Dissonant Rhapsody". Anyone's thoughts on this?
=====
So guys.
I noticed with Hybrid Hardkore, a gabber/speedcore-ish bandcamp label of mine (my only online music store/thing right now) that with it originally planned as a duo project, it's become quite solo and strayed from the genre I originally had in mind.
Most of my new stuff is closer to happy hardcore and hard trance.
Now, my quirk is here. Normally I'd think "just make a new label or change your current one", but I DO like the name Hybrid Hardkore, and I do still want to produce harder music. And in the words of Ol De Paso, why can't we have both?
So my question is this, guys. Ayla, as a fursona, has a "happy normal" green-eyed self and a "silver-eyed rinbwing" aka "serious edgy" self. I do like the idea of alternate aliases but I don't want to choke the place up with them like lapfox does (nor do I want to seem like some trend-following fangirl). Normal Ayla would still use the alias BlackStatic. I'd think of an alternative name for my darker stuff (or vice versa).
And well, this is my decision: normal ayla for trancey stuff, "edgy" ayla for hardcore? Yes or no?

I'm in need of some moral support right now (please read)
Posted 13 years agoEDIT: I've calmed down a little bit, I think I'll be alright. Leaving this up though until I deem it necessary to remove.

Or more along the lines of, my family needs support and I don't know how to give anything to the situation.
You see, my grandfather has had parkingson's and dementia for quite some time now, and it's started to take its' toll on his age. He's currently under constant supervision in hospital and carers are unable to fully restrain him. We're all trying our best to keep our heads, and the strange part is that I don't know how to give back to the situation.
I love my grandfather dearly, but I feel that I haven't known him that much and won't have the chance to. This may seem like a strange journal entry, but... how can I appear more sympathetic? I'm not indifferent, I just... don't feel the mix of emotions and stress that everyone else does. I could see it in his eyes that he's getting on, and I can only wish him the best. I suppose I feel that I can let him go, whereas everyone else is trying to hold on.
It's a strange feeling, like the world is spinning around you while you're in a different time and space. Simply observing the world and the way it works, letting life run its natural path. But although it pains me, I do have this... "empty" feeling about it. I feel for my grandmother, but my grandfather is going to have to say goodbye and I don't know wether I can feel a true connection in my farewell.
Sorry, FA. I may seem like I'm rambling too much about personal life, but I am scared. Not because he's dying, but because I'm watching everyone else die inside as well?
So yes. If I appear to be a little quiet lately, that's why.

Draconeques: Story of a Nation & Rise of the Discordant Army
Posted 13 years agoSo cckuribon and I are currently working on writing a sort of conjoined fanfic about Discord. Cyril is writing in the past tense, and I am writing in the time of series 2.
It will feature the background six (as we see it fit for the story) and some history on the Draconeques as a species. Both stories contain violence and occasional dark themes, so be prepared for any disturbing scenes.
Cyril's story is here: The Story Of A Nation
My story is still being approved, but I'll have a link readily available.

Sorry for my absence
Posted 13 years agoBeen at loxodrome's for most of the holidays, and his computer died so I wasn't able to check FA.
I'll be working on those commissions over the weekend, when I'm not studying for next term's load of schoolwork. Straitis' refsheet is in the tracing/lineart stage, ready to be organised and coloured accordingly. Once that's done I'll work a little more on Pepsi's, and start on Cide and Ash's art. So I'm back from my break and slaving away at my art for you guys~
I'm going to make an attempt to open up a paypal this week or next, as I'm saving up for a dreamvisioncreations mask. This means I will be available for more international commissions, for those interested in getting some art from me when I open up again.
So off to work I go!

But yes, someone was nice enough to give me an invite and there I am, happily on Nabyn under my actual screen name (though stroop is a good nickname too though, I'll give you that.)
So here we go, I'm getting even less work done (renovated my wardrobe into a comfy den though) and occupying most of my time filling out the character database - something which I still find highly useful and thankful for, so I can tip my hat to Kameloh for that one snazzy feature.
And with that, I sleep.

Translation of my namesake (with pronunciation tips!)
Posted 13 years agoSomeone on tumblr asked me what "aylakurone" meant, so I figured I would give a fully fledged answer for those who are still confused and/or pronoucing my name incorrectly. There's also some background info about Ayla's accent, and her ethnicity.
So, the name Ayla Kurone. This is always fun and complicated to explain, as I love creating accents and this plays a real part in my alias.
Unlike the Turkish pronunciation of Ayla, or like that in Clan of The Cave Bear ("eye-lah"), Ayla's name is said as I originally read it - “Ay” is is pronounced like “day”, and “la” as “luh”. The original Turkish meaning translates into halo, or crescent of light around the sun/moon during an eclipse.
To quickly summarise that for you, Ayla is said as "AY-luh". (Think "HAY GAIZ WASSUP", or a stereotyped AustrAYYYlian accent.)
Kurone is a Japanese word, which means “black noise”, the opposite of static or white noise. It uses Japanese vowels - the ‘silent’ letter U, and “E” that sounds like the letter A. So Kurone would pronounced as “crow-neigh” or “khh-ro-nay”. More info on Japanese vowels can be found here.
Summary 2; Kurone is said as "KOO-ro-neh" or if the 'silent u' rule takes place, "Kuh-RO-nay". (I usually prefer the second, which I will explain next.)
I also like to use a trilled/rolled R to represent my fursona’s accent, as a feline she wouldn’t be able to make that many sounds that require lip movement. This is part of the Hallyaran language, spoken by Ayla and Kai, and also used multiple times in my Thunderpaw/Hollow Earth series. Hallyaran is a language designed primarily for animals to speak with humans, at least in the context of Ayla. It relies mostly on growling, howling, 'barking' or meowing sounds to form vowels and words. I'm in the process of writing the Hallyaran pronunciation and grammar, though the alphabet is something I would like to keep personal.
So Kurone would also end up being “Krrh-oh-neigh”, and Ayla could possibly be pronounced "Errh-la". Or "Ey'la", with a 'clipped' L/Japanese R.
So, translation: AYLA KURONE = ECLIPSE-HALO SILENT NOISE
because you know, that sounds totally legit on a birth certificate.
LOL HOPE THAT CLEARS THINGS UP. Probably made things even more confusing though.

I have a buttload of homework to do, school hasn't been very nice to me since my return from Sydney. So I have the rest of Sunday and part of Monday morning to get work done for three of my major subjects. Unfortunately, something has put me under the weather as nearly every orifice in my body is filled with some kind of snotty, waxy, sludgy gunk (except for "there", because y'know, that'd be gross). I even went so far as to apply eardrops, I'm feeling so tired out.
Running around at recess and lunch for the past few days... that's also been a nightmare. Changing out of one subject shouldn't have to require so many signatures from teachers who seem to be teleporting to Narnia and back. I've been low on food, and I'm trying to avoid spending any more money on cheap canteen crap. I'm going for fruit smoothies and generally scrounging up whatever healthier stuff I can find... if anyone has any good recipes, send me them! Danishes and pastries would be greatly appreciated <3
So not really a rant or an update, just a little something during my homework break to take my mind off how exhausted I feel.
TL;DR i feel too sick to do anything

BACK FROM SOUNDWAVE
Posted 13 years agoTHAT WAS THE MOST WALKING I'VE DONE IN MY LIFE.
Sydney Olympic Park is well... pretty freakin' huge. There were seven stages all playing at pretty much the same time, and 35,000 people lined up out the front for two blocks. Line moved quickly though, which was good. Shout-out to the guy behind us trying to get rid of his choc chip cookie. I don't like food from Subway either, man... just wondering wether or not you met up with the guy dressed as the Cookie Monster, lmao.
First off we rocked up to see Chimera and Gojira, there was a guy who climbed on top of a garbage bin to do a stripper routine. I can definitely say that within moments, he'd trashed the place where he was standing (no pun intended - there were beer cans everywhere). loxodrome and I were pretty much jam-packed with people, and we weren't even near the front of the stage either. Most people were pretty well behaved, out of 35k people only 20 were arrested.
So loxodrome and I went from Gojira to try and see Heaven Shall Burn and Kittie... we were pretty dissapointed with HSB, to be brutally honest. The indoor arenas had horrible EQ and the reverberation shook your feet even if you had them lifted off the ground. The guys doing the sound mixing were pretty terrible at their job and kept having a passive-aggressive argument; one guy got the EQ perfect and then another guy would come in and turn everything up to max volume, which was very fustrating. EQ were kind enough to give me an apple, though. "Hey, you want this apple?" So I dumbfoundedly mumble/yell-over-the-noise "Sure, thanks!" and that was that.
Kittie did a pretty neat performance though. Major ladyboners were had over the lead singer and guitarists, and I am proud to say they sure had girl power. Really pissed me off that they didn't have any merch though, so all that walking to stalls meant nothing...
We decided to head over to see Meshuggah after that, and OH MY GOD IT WAS AWESOME. Their set felt shorter than we had expected, and they played most of their well-known stuff, rather than album previews, but overall I was in mesh-heaven or something. A huge Mesh-head decided to high five loxodrome... in the stomach.... then proceeded to scream "MESHUGGAH SHIRT FUCK YEAH GIMMIE A HIGH FIVE MAN WHOOO", before running off to leave my boyfriend looking somewhat confused.
Oh and I got a Meshuggah shirt, which makes me happy. <3
When Meshuggah finished we decided to try our luck with Dillinger Escape Plan, and they had the same EQ problem as Heaven and Kittie. Within moments of them starting their first song, we shook our heads in dissapointment and made our way to see Unearth, who were playing in twenty minutes.
The band who played before, though... think it was Mastodon or someone, can't remember... FREAKIN' SIX MINUTE SOLO. They got to the point where they were just being show-y, so we had to wait. But around the same time, every single person had literally filled Arena 1, where Slipknot and Manson were playing. I was suprised by how empty Unearth's stage was... and how much junk there was lying around. You couldn't even sit down without moving five ciggarettes out of the way. Totally worth seeing Unearth though, their light show was epic and their general performance was fantastic.
By now it was late, and lox decided to be nice and let us see Enter Shikari instead of Devin Townsend... unfortunately, neither of us had heard much Shikari and felt completely and utterly ripped off because of the huge dubstep solo, and stupid scene kids running around with their reverse caps and shuttershades... DANCING. TO METAL.
Lox just facepalmed as we made our way out of the arena at the end of the night. Still got a shikari shirt, because we just blamed it on the arena/fanbase rather than the band themselves. I'll give them a bit more of a listen and see if I still like them, but I still feel like I wasted $40 on that shirt... and still feel kinda bad because lox really wanted to see Townsend.
But, overall, we had a good time. For a first major music festival, loxodrome and I enjoyed ourselves, walked the equivalent of a marathon, and spent pretty much all the money we had, driving home on a school week and missing out on craploads of college homework.
So I'll rate Soundwave a 4/5, maybe 3.5 for the terrible EQ and horrible amount of walking.

Posted 13 years agoloxodrome and I are totally going to get new haircuts/dye our scalps unnatural colours, and pretty much flush our money down the toilet in exchange for oversized shirts. And I finally get a few days out of this crappy town, to go see some city life and get stuck in traffic jams aaaaaawwww yeaaaaahhhhh.
Secretly hoping I see a few furs around, though it's unlikely they'll actually be at the festival. Eh, if I do spot any of you while I'm down near Sydney I'll give a wave out the car window or something.
BUT YEAH, kind of a temporary hiatus from the internet for a while, as I'll be rockin' out with Meshuggah, Lamb of God, Maralyn Manson and a bunch of other awesome people. BE JELLY.
I'LL BE BROKE WHEN I GET BACK, I CAN TELL YOU THAT MUCH~ <3

Wanna make more FA friends, but too shy...?
Posted 13 years agoI don't know whether or not I'm being too shy, or too aggressive...
Not really a vent journal, but a little note to myself. I should really try to make friends with some of the people I admire on here (art-wise), but I don't know how to go about it without sounding like an awkward goose.
I usually wait for people to approach me first, but if none of them notice me then I get all impatient so that when they do talk to me, I'm all snappy or something... it's not cool, and I want to try and change my attitude.
I don't bite though, guys. Honestly. I just want to know more cool people to collab/trade with. ono

I feel so priveledged.

STARDUST NEBULA EP - OUT NOW!
Posted 14 years agohttp://hybridhardkore.bandcamp.com/.....dust-nebula-ep
Also, I had some ideas. If I start selling actual CDs (provided I had a paypal), do you guys think sending a portion of my profits to fund school music departments is a good idea? It saddens me that depressed or bullied kids have little escape in school, and learning music might just help them out.
So what do you say, should I give it a shot?
