Posted 9 years agoSo I've had to re-brand as Brushfeather... which I'm also going to make my gryphon fursona, because fuck yeah gryphons. But I've been Stryde... man. Forever. I think I was 15 when I picked this name, and I'm 29 now. That's a heck of a thing to let go... but I don't know that I want to be so completely separate from my artist identity here?

There and Back Again
Posted 9 years agoFinally got my FA account recovered, hooray! A lot is going on, my husband and I have bought our first house together and are going to be moving mid-July, so a lot of my time lately has been eaten by the lengthy home-buying process. It's a beautiful place though, so excited!
I have a list of commission to work on, so you'll see more of me through the next couple weeks and after August once the move is over. Stay tuned!

Posted 10 years agoHello September! The summer is over, ALL of the weddings I've either been in or attended have passed, and my back injury (long story) is allowing me to sit at the computer again! FINALLY I can get back to art - huzzah! :)
So, where have I been?
Posted 10 years agoI don't know, I don't know because I don't know where to begin.
But really, life has been crazy in both a chaotic and amazing sort of way. I've felt a pull towards nature and the outdoors like I haven't felt... ever, really, so I've spent a lot of time in the gardens, in the yard, and with the neighbors. Along with that, my Grandmother has been in the hospital for quite some time, which is a long story by itself. To spare the gory details, she's never properly taken care of herself or her home, and her home was the biggest part of the issue. I've spent most of my days off over there making it liveable for her when she's out of rehabilitation. Anything else has been my own home and family.
I haven't left the art world, and I don't ever plan to, but part of my leaving an organized business for my art is coming and going as life calls for it. I have a project sitting on my drive still, a revisit that I'm not sure how to finish... I'll likely go back to that and work on other things as I come back around to the art world again. I'll be posting and painting more on rainy days and in the extreme heat of summer when it's too unbearable to be outside. For the moment, this feels right. :) I'm happy, enjoying life, and living quite comfortably right now - it's nice being home for the weekend!

Posted 10 years agoI got really sucked into 100% completing Ni no Kuni and dropped all of my art for a bit. I did it... and now it's back to the real world, lol. It was a fun challenge, but it was, A, anticlimactic (trophy goes, DING! ... now what?), and B, a huge waste of time, so I don't think I'll be striving for platinum again any time soon.

All GOLDEN tickets are worth 5 hours of art time - Good for portraits / icons, single characters without backgrounds (or a simple character sheet with one pose), a tribal design (sorry, I have no current examples) or a logo design (ask for samples).
SILVER tickets are with 2 hours of art time - great for a sketch page, a clean sketch, or a simple rough drawing (in the Turret’s style).
I plan on drawing up / redesigning new vouchers to replace these with details.

Posted 10 years agoI've deleted probably 90% of my gallery, with a few of my really old pieces that I still care for going into scraps. Here's to a fresh new start as an artist. :)

These are just some notes on what I've been musing on lately. No distinct schedule on any of these, I haven't quite found my rhythm yet, though I'm getting there.
Currently: Styleplay. Create a number of pieces utilizing different digital and/or traditional techniques to find a realm of comfort.
Later ideas:
- Elemental/Themed Parrots : Exactly as it says on the tin, though I'd like to do more than earth/wind/fire/water. Parrots, or Parryphons?
- Tribal/Magical Animalia : Various members of the animal kingdom (lesser known and common) painted with fantastical colors. Not sure what to do for a setting, or if they'll just be on a shadow or a simple color / gradient. Thinking I should do this anthro-style to re-familiarize myself with 2-legged forms... not sure.
- Mages : Themed mages of varying species. Thinking of doing some hybrids in here.
- Bird studies: There is such amazing variety in the world of birds. I want to paint all of their beautiful shapes, sizes, and colors. <3 I'm regularly collecting new bird species / subspecies photos that I'd like to paint here: https://www.pinterest.com/ostrydeo/birds/

Posted 11 years agoAs usual, I disappeared from the art world through November and December for the holidays. I'm back! Right now I have 5 - JUST 5! - Dreyrull orders left, and then I can finally get on to my own personal work. I don't plan on taking any commissions for a while so I can flex my artistic muscles, experiment and build my portfolio up.

As many already know, I've decided to finish my orders on Dreyrull and relinquish it to its members. It's been a long haul, and it's a world I adore, but it's stunted my artistic growth and limited me to a single medium drawing a very specific set of things... so what now?
Gosh, so much. Artistically, I adore watercolors and watercolor pencil. Stephanie Pui-Mun Law is someone I idolize for her talents in watercolor - I want to learn so much more. <3 I've cracked out the charcoals and pastel pencils as well.
Do any of you have any good fantasy / wildlife / furry watercolor or watercolor - mix artists you watch? I'd like some inspiration. I also watch
windfalcon_art, she's fabulous. Another one of my goals is to study birds more, as they've become somewhat of a fixation of mine.
In the meantime, I'm focusing on my dayjob as a designer, which I couldn't be happier with... and perhaps it's my relaxation there versus my stress heading home to Dreyrull that was a big part of my decision.

Extended hiatus, now OVER!
Posted 11 years agoI've returned from a very, very long, very complicated hiatus. To make a long story short, I was moving from one apartment under my landlady to another, but the new apartment had a family of horrific tenants being evicted. They kept fighting my landlady in court which,,, simply could never work, as they weren't paying rent, were being loud, destructive, and were invading the privacy of my now-neighbors, just to name a few things. What this did, however, was leave me and my husband sitting in a mountain of boxed for over a month, having our move delayed a week at a time. I had no computer, as I had no desk to put it on (the old desk had to be sold as it wouldn't clear the ceilings well in the new place and was difficult to move), no surfaces to work on, and basically no means of doing anything art-based for quite some time... but that's all over now.
Now living comfortably in my shiny new place, I'm back in business, and am resuming regular commission and Dreyrull-related work. There's a few people I'm still waiting on information from to complete their orders - if you've only seen half of your order / an incomplete version of your order, it's very likely that I'm missing information! Shoot me a note!

3 week hiatus
Posted 11 years agoIt's been a hectic summer for me for a long list of reasons I'd rather not get into in great detail (mixture of health, neighbors, injury, blah blah blah yadda yadda), and now my moving date has been dropped on me like a sack of you-know-what. With very little notice, I'm now rushing to get this place cleaned up, repaired, and my furniture and possessions that are NOT moving with me sold, as there will be no basement storage at the new place (the only down side, other than some tapwater issues). Orders and roleplay are coming to a complete halt while I make it through this madness.
I'll come off hiatus APPROXIMATELY September 21st, but don't hold me to that exactly. t could be sooner or later, depending on the situations at hand.

Back in action July 1st
Posted 11 years agoHail, watchers! I've been on hiatus for a number of reasons, the first being that I was computerless while I was transferring from a tablet to a new build. My family also has a firm tradition of celebrating birthdays more than we do Christmas or other holidays, so it's been busy - and fun! Everything ends Sunday, so after a day of getting my ducks in a row I'll be back to commissions and my regular schedule on the 1st.

3 drives - primary is a SSD just used for booting and programs, otherwise I have about 2 1/2 TB of storage.
GPU: GeForce GTX 750 ti
CPU: AMD FX 4130 Quad-Core
8 GB ram (Need a different mobo if I want more ):),
Running win 7 because f*ck win 8 forever. I'm so very done with win 8.

Posted 11 years agoI've gotten myself into quite a pickle over the last year or so and am being chased by a great number of hospitals and debt collectors. Scary stuff. So I've been a bit trapped in my paperwork and phonecalls as I've tried to straighten this out and get everything to reasonable sums under reasonable payment plans. Sorry for bringing everything a couple days behind, but I'll catch up in no time.
Have to go to my in-laws tomorrow, should be able to get in a small order or two.
Tonight, I dine on yakisoba lightly seasoned with the tears of debt.

Fursona tshirts?
Posted 11 years agoSo... cool thing about my job - I can print individual custom tshirts for a fairly reasonable price, and I'm really not limited at all with what type of styling I can do. I can straight up do a fully detailed digital painting and print it on a shirt, or do something simple and basic like lineart, logos and tribals.
That being said... would anyone be interested in fursona tshirts? Head-shots, full body, stylized, that kind of stuff? I have to figure out pricing, but it'd be pretty much cost of art + shipping + printing, I don't think I have any reason to charge extra for the fact that it's on a shirt.
