Posted 13 years agoSo, I'm opening up for 4 bust commissions, but with a catch. Now, I can usually fill slots so fast, but sometimes I end up having to draw stuff I'm not really keen on doing, so this time I'm experimenting. I'mma draw what I've been in the mood to draw for a while now, Big Beautiful Women!, girls with a bit of weight to them, ladies with lovely curves all over. This will guarantee I'll have these busts done fast (motivation!) so I can get more of the other things I still owe done.
NOTE ME IF YOU WANT A BUST COMMISSION. Single Character, full colour, nothing lower than the knees. Price is $150, Character must be a BBW (I'll allow a couple herms too, but I prefer full females). Please send a reference pic, and if you have any preferences for background colour, expression, and/or what features you'd like focused on. Special Commission Slots CLOSED

The reason for them being a bit more than my usual busts is the lineless approach and extra detail take a little more time and effort, and, if ya ask me, look a bit nicer, too.

Life Update: Heart Problems
Posted 13 years agoSo, as some of you may know from my twitter or talkin to me at AC or whatever that I've been havin these chest pains since starting up on antidepressants, right? well, they weened me off the antidepressants.... and the chest pains didn't go away. Yesterday, in fact, I was leavin work and almost didnt make it to my bus thanks to the most severe "attack" yet. Wasnt quite enough to take me off my feet, but it was pretty close.
Thankfully silverautomatic is visiting, and him being an EMT, and actually having a car, he got my ass up to the hospital.
From there, it was a helluva long wait while the doctors tried to figure out what the hell was goin on with me. my symptoms suggested some kinda heart attaack, and that runs in the family. and speaking of family, mine hauled ass into the ER unannounced to make sure I was okay. I guess I scared the crap outta them, cuz they were expectin my ass to be in a room hooked up to machines and being like, completely fubar. it certainly calmed them down to see me in the waiting room covered in hospital bling and awake and still joking around (albeit a little weaker than normal)
Got out after midnight. The docs dont think it was a heart attack. Leading theory is that I've got coronary artery disease, but I'll have to go in again for a stress test (as in hook me up to machines and get my chubby ass on a treadmill), so they can get a proper diagnosis. In the meantime, I'm taking it easy....as much as I can, of course. I'll try to keep up on art and stuff, but I figured I'd let everyone know what's goin on.
TLDR: My heart's fucked up but I should be okay as long as I take it easy.

After-con report
Posted 13 years agoY'know, cons and sleep deprivation go together like honey and live bees. They belong together, and it reeeeally hurts if you eat both in the same sandwich.
So, Furnal Equinox was pretty good. TONS of peeps I'm glad I got to see again, got some mad sketchin' goin on (and trust me, actually seeing the happy reactions of my commissioners sure beats excited notes and emails). REALLY glad I heard that the hotel is moving. The hotel tried to rip us off for parking AND more than one room key (they wanted $20 for each key after the first. I've never encountered that before), which lead to me being accidentally locked out of the hotel room saturday night, and more or less ruining a good chunk of sunday for me. Word to the wise, if you find yourself in Toronto, don't stay at the Doubletree. The service is fucking horrible (and I -know- I wasn't the only one who had problems)
On the downside, the con didn't do much for my depression. I'm not saying that by any stretch I didn't enjoy myself. There were a lot of awesome memories I left with, but what I'm feelin now doesn't feel like PCD. Hopefully the government will hurry up and assign us a doctor so I can get myself properly taken care of before it becomes any more serious.
I'll be getting back to work tomorrow on art stuffs, or at least as much of it as I can. I really hate this slowdown I've been experiencing. I really want to be putting out a commission or bust batch every week, but once again, my head isn't in a very good place right now. I'll continue to try to power through it, though. As much as I'd love to lie down and give up right now, I really can't.
I guess that's all I got for now. I think I'm gonna go get some sleep.

Furnal Equinox
Posted 13 years agoI suppose I should probably let you guys know I'm gonna be at Furnal Equinox this weekend, seeing as I'll be there within the next 24 hours. So yeah, I'll be there, probably working the artists alley on saturday ($50 sketches, yo). Other than that, I'm there to have fun, chill out, soak up the positive energy, and HOPEFULLY shake this nasty depression that's been doggin me this last month or so (that's why my output's been suffering a bit. Something for the Critics
Posted 13 years agoI started typing this journal with the intention of completely flying off the handle. Not just flying, actually climbing into an orion rocket, and blasting off with body-pulping g-forces and leaving behind an atomic haze where the handle was, screaming my lungs out, corkscrewing through the sky, all the way to the stars. Much worse than simply flying off the handle.
But hey, what would that get me, right? Just a shitload more drama that I don't want (but certain websites thrive off of), but I wanted to clear the air on a couple things.
There were a LOT of comments goin' on about my commission prices and the quality of my work, and those of you that had positive things to say, I thank you, from the bottom of my heart, because it really does mean a lot to me. It actually is one of the big things that keeps me goin'. But there were a lot of people that had a lot of not-so-awesome things to say, and hey, whatever, you've got the right to say them, and in the case of a few artistic critiques, you're completely right, and it'd be stupid of me not to pay mind to them.
Now, with regards to the prices, the reason I charge that much is because I feel that's what my stuff is worth. I don't give a shit, really, about the professional industry standard or the average price in the fandom. I give it my all to the best of my abilities, and I figure for my time, skill, effort, ect, $450 seems reasonable. Don't agree with me? Fine. There's plenty of other peeps out there charging less for some absolutely spectacular work that I honestly find myself utterly envious of. Support them! I'm serious! They need a lot more love! I'd commission them myself if I wasn't so poor! I've still got plenty of awesome customers to fill slots when I need to pay the rent.
And the quality of my work: yes, I need to improve. Admittedly, the stresses of my daily life have been taking its toll on me, and my quality of work has been dipping a little. I'm trying to fix it up. I'm even experimenting with new ways of approaching things, trying to learn (and more importantly, retain) new things. But at the same time, I can't be posting one pic a month because I'm being too picky about everything I draw, or I'd REALLY be in shit. But hey, what would that get me, right? Just a shitload more drama that I don't want (but certain websites thrive off of), but I wanted to clear the air on a couple things.
There were a LOT of comments goin' on about my commission prices and the quality of my work, and those of you that had positive things to say, I thank you, from the bottom of my heart, because it really does mean a lot to me. It actually is one of the big things that keeps me goin'. But there were a lot of people that had a lot of not-so-awesome things to say, and hey, whatever, you've got the right to say them, and in the case of a few artistic critiques, you're completely right, and it'd be stupid of me not to pay mind to them.
Now, with regards to the prices, the reason I charge that much is because I feel that's what my stuff is worth. I don't give a shit, really, about the professional industry standard or the average price in the fandom. I give it my all to the best of my abilities, and I figure for my time, skill, effort, ect, $450 seems reasonable. Don't agree with me? Fine. There's plenty of other peeps out there charging less for some absolutely spectacular work that I honestly find myself utterly envious of. Support them! I'm serious! They need a lot more love! I'd commission them myself if I wasn't so poor! I've still got plenty of awesome customers to fill slots when I need to pay the rent.
And the quality of my work: yes, I need to improve. Admittedly, the stresses of my daily life have been taking its toll on me, and my quality of work has been dipping a little. I'm trying to fix it up. I'm even experimenting with new ways of approaching things, trying to learn (and more importantly, retain) new things. But at the same time, I can't be posting one pic a month because I'm being too picky about everything I draw, or I'd REALLY be in shit. Posted 14 years ago...Depression. I guess that's how it can be categorized, but it's not so much the typical sadness that most feel. Instead, I feel...fury. Like, just completely pissed-off about coming back. I mean, yeah, I've got a few days off ahead of me (expect livestreaming, and lots of it!) and I'm not nearly as bothered by the thought of going back to work in the call center, I'm pissed off that I don't get the chance to remain as relaxed and surrounded by encouraging fans and friends as I was this weekend.
I was on a roll, too. I was drawing up a storm, getting to see for myself the smiles I put on people's faces as I hand them my work. I already missing the laughter of friends as we sit around making horribly inappropriate jokes and chowing on food that can barely qualified as edible. I'm PISSED at myself that I haven't gotten through that damned commission list below after whipping off pic after pic at the con without the usual indecision and doubt I'm normally wracked by. The flow of creativity was invigorating, and I feel myself clutching at it like a slick rope over a cliff.
I'm home.....and I'm pissed, because I never want that amazing, alive feeling to go away.

A Fresh Restart
Posted 14 years agoMan, going a week without a working computer sucks, BUT NO MORE!. The new rig (I named her Adelaide) has now been built and is up and running beautifully. First new machine in 7 YEARS. Again, I thank 9lion for unknowingly bailing me out of this one (he donated a large amount a couple days before the old system died, and didn't tell me) Much love goes out to saving my ass. I was planning on backing everything up and saving up after MFF, but fate had other plans.
Also, I have officially lost EVERYTHING. Not an entirely bad thing though, almost everything I had is spread out amongst various places or in the possession of various people, and there was a lotta junk on there I never bothered to clear. To be honest, the fresh start is kinda cathartic. Definitely good times ahead, as I've got a machine I don't have to worry about dying on me as I game and work on art (the last few images almost ran out all of my RAM in colouring them).
New art will be coming soon, I've got some lineart done this week I intend to finish up once I manage to find someone with photoshop so I can get colouring again. I'll probably even be tossing up a buncha sketches as well. and the best news... I'll finally be able to livestream! W00!!
In the meantime, though..... I'm gonna go redownload all the music and porn I lost!

DISC BOOT ERROR (resolved)
Posted 14 years agoMy computer is dead. Wont even boot, she's toast. Almost 8 years of service. I was planning on saving up for a new rig after MFF, but obviously, without a computer, I'm kindasorta fucked. I can keep track of stuff here on FA from Coop's computer, and scan in lineart and whatnot, maybe colour a little bit when she's not using it, but yeah, I need a new computer.
My estimates put a decent rig that can get me back in the game (and probably allow me to get even better as my work recently has been causing my computer to choke and sputter trying to handle it all) will cost approximately $1000. so.....
A/ one generous soul throws a grand at me and I'll whip off a couple full-colour digital pics for ya OR

Posted 14 years agoI just feel like posting something... anything, rather than spend another month with a closed commission journal sitting there, like there's nothing else on my mind but money. If you're not one for reading about the goings on in someone's head, it might be best if you close the window now, cuz I'm gonna blather for a bit.
Been reflecting, as usual whenever I get a little bit of time to sit around on my own. I think, therefore, I am.... and I am probably thinking too much. But rarely is it ever something directed, focused, and productive. It's more of a lazy cycle. Thought A leads to B leads to X to Y to Z to A to B. Running rings around a slumbering giant. And once again, I ponder change.
I like to reflect on the past, to look back to see how far I've come. I've become so different over the years. From quiet to loud, shy to confident, cold and unfeeling to searing hot and barely contained. And the weird thing about that is... I still feel like I'm the same person looking out through these eyes, y'know? Like, for example, before I hit the fandom, I was very shy, and had no presence on those around me. I was just there. Fly on the wall. I still perceive the world from that mindset, and it rarely ever occurs to me the effect I have on people at all. It takes effort for me to see that anyone's lives are any different for my existence, that my art has changed anyone's day, or that I'm looked up to by people, even when I'm talking to those people very people and they're telling me this to my face at the time.
Now, I've always had confidence issues. It's part of the reason my commission list is so damned long. It rarely clicks that most people dig what I do, more like I hear the criticisms in my head when I move pen across paper. The lines need to slip between "whoa, anatomy failure" and "pshhh, I could draw better than him". Every picture is a map of a battlefield. Every stroke tainted with a little bit of fear of disappointment. Every pic I post bears with it that little bit of exhaustion and tired triumph over the fact that it got done at all. And yet, there's really no reason for me to be scared at all. No reason for every picture to become a fight. You guys have supported me all along with your kind comments and plentiful faves and watches. I have no reason at all to hesitate like I always do before my pencil hits the paper.
It's probably normal. I just -know- I'm not isolated in my little fears. That I'm not the only one who has to muster a bunch of willpower before I do what I do best. It's... just another little thing to add to the big ol' pile of less-than-optimal conditions in my head. If I could afford psychiactric help, and had the time for it, I'd probably get in some couch time. Get a mental tune-up, y'know? Hell, I could probably use a physical tune-up as well, come to think of it. My right ankle's been fucked up for a while now, constant minor headaches, stress reactions, sore necks, the cough I've had for years, ect, ect.
Man, I could use a vacation.
Just need one little lottery win, y'know? Get out of the call center, finish the commissions, call up some professionals, take a few months to just get better, fix the damage, get healthy, get some muscle definition and meditation. Don't worry about money for a little bit. Rehab for mind, body and soul.
But hey, lottery wins are rare (and probably for the best. I'd commission everyone until you all haaaaaaaate me!) and only a fool puts all his chips in on one disgustingly rare chance. Plus it's an easy way to fuck up your life if you're not careful (Though I'd use it to get a nice house, sensible car, and start up my own studio at some point). So, I look at the more likely scenario; the hard way. Work through it. Struggle, pain..... probably permanent damage. I'm already starting to get white hairs and I'm not even 30 yet.
Strangely, that doesn't terrify me as much as I expected. The concept of falling apart, never being quite whole again. Aging, breaking down, decaying, going insane. And I don't know why it doesn't scare me as much as it used to. Nor does it scare me that I'm not scared of falling apart. I think I'm starting to see things less as wounds and more like honorable battle scars, earned through good deeds, proof that I never gave up, like well-worn shoes.
This....feels like it's probably a good thing.
Gawd I forgot how much I enjoy writing journals like this. Breaks me out out of the cycle, gives me focus. Sets my eyes on new things to be discovered.

Okay, usual drill. Each slot is $450 for a full colour digital piece, up to three characters. This month is "Massive Mammary Month", if huge boobies are involved I'd be willing to bring it down to $400, simply because I love huge boobies (and for you herm-lovers out there, I don't give a rats ass if it's got a ham-wallet or pork-claymore). As usual, I refuse to do cub, piss, shit or puke.

And also, because this happens all the time, I am perfectly aware that I charge more than the average furry artist, that most furries don't have that kinda money on hand, and you might not feel I'm worth that much. That's perfectly fine by me, there's plenty of people who are interested regardless. Supply and demand, yo, and with how long it takes for me to get pics done, there's not a whole lot of supply. I also know a few peeps might take issue with me taking commissions at all given my list. Believe me, I wouldn't be doing this if I could possibly help it.

...that was FRIGGIN' AWESOME. Like, it was actually the most fun con I've been to this year, by a fairly large margin. Nerf fire EVERYWHERE, intimate atmosphere and great peeps all over the place, insane events, awesome times in the lounge, the charity auction that will probably go down in infamy, it was all AWESOME.
No, seriously. the charity auction hit over $10,500 in the course of 3 hours, in a con with less than 500 people. ( chazore ended up paying for like, half of it) for Salthaven animal sanctuary, and their goal was 10k FOR THE WHOLE YEAR. We ended up calling the guy who runs the sanctuary, and told him what we raised for him. I'm CERTAIN the man shat a brick. And he said something I'll never forget, because it was such a beautiful compliment...
"...You guys are a buncha animals!"
Oh yeah, it rocked. The only thing I could think of complaining about was the dance floor being right next to the zoo, separated by a fake wall, so at night you couldn't hear yourself think because the music was so damned loud. Thankfully, I brought this up with the guys on staff and they said they've got a solution for next year, so I literally have nothing to bitch about at all. so MAD kudos to the staff. They ironed out most of the bugs from when they started up last year. Next year should be even better!
But, I will say, as AMAZING as the con was, there were little moments that kinda sucked....they were entirely in my head, mind you. I actually came in on friday to the dealer's den to set up and... I hesitated. I looked around at all the other tables, and I saw full colour price signs, crazyawesome steampunk wares to my left, beautiful, flowing racks of jedi robes to my right, shitloads of colour prints and buttons in front of me, people with laptops and tablets all over, and there I was with a hastily-scribbled price sign and a few examples that I hadn't forgotten at home. You can't fathom how disappointed I was with myself. Almost walked away right there. To be honest, if it weren't for the fact that if I'd done that I'd get lectured by damn near everybody, I probably woulda gone home. Frendship saves the day again,
Thankfully, my confidence was somewhat restored soon after as the sketch commissions I was taking started rolling in, and I got to see the looks on people's faces as I showed them their pieces. There's something kinda special that happens when you hand someone a picture you drew and they bug out with glee. A friend of mine who's a magician describes a similar feeling when ya do a trick and people freak out and go "how the FUCK did you do that!?". To some, bunnies from hats, to others, bunnies with boobs, either way, it tingles.
I'm thinking sometime soon I'll check into a doctor, get myself checked. I've been flipping back and forth between barely-contained rage and crippling melancholy, and I've been having a hard time controlling it. It's probably chemical, might be bi-polar. Hopefully a bit of lithium and finding work outside of a soul-crushing call center will help me get my shit together so I can be more productive, happy, and creative. I'm starting to get sick of being the poor kid, and my guts are screaming at me to get back to work on the "mindbaby" so I can have something to show for myself other than a pile of commissions and lint.
So, let's raise a glass to ambition, and the spirit of creativity. To the good times ahead of us, and the horrors and agony we survive through to get there.
Also, Bob, don't ever serve me that "slurm" stuff again. Or at least don't put so much 190 in it next time. I almost didn't make it to the meet n greet
