Hooza, made it!
Posted 13 years agoThe initial goal has been met, much to my utter astonishment!
But the march forward has not yet taken on full steam. Anything else that comes in only adds more to the generosity that may save these beautiful animals yet!
Spread the word, tell your friends. Let's see how far we can nurse this tortured old dog along and accomplish a miracle!

Almost there!
Posted 13 years agoI'm... honestly quite surprised! On a desperate hope I created an Indigogo.com campaign hoping to raise some money (using the default 1k mark inserted by the interface) that will go toward trying to find a sanctuary for my animals.
In the week it's been running it's gotten surprisingly close to the minimum goal (83% down to the last 24 hours).
To all of you who have helped, my heartfelt thanks!
Now let's see if we can make it all the way!

30 days, and you're OUT.
Posted 13 years agoToday someone came knocking on my door. Turns out it was the neighbors.
Evicting me in 30 days.
As it stands, the building (a ramshackle cobbled together heap that nonetheless has provided a roof for the last seven years) I reside in sits astride two different pieces of property, neither of them my own.
Unfortunately those landowners want to refinance their properties for whatever reason, but the banks are blocking any attempt to do so (since the housing crash they've gotten right anal about financing) because of this... building... sitting there.
So their best choice is to remove the building, despite the fact I happen to be living in it. But not for any longer. Unfortunate for me, but doubly so for the wolves I took in some years ago. There's no where to send them. Without heroic measures the only recourse is euthanasia, which itself is not a cheap prospect by any means for 7 animals.
So, suddenly desperate, I looked up that charity site that helped the bullied old lady (no, I doubt I'll be so fortunate) and started my own desperate measure... not for nearly long enough, all things as they are, but at least I'll try.
Toss this around to your friends and acquaintances and hope: http://igg.me/p/150597?a=792021

Changing Identities
Posted 14 years agoWell, after trying to figure out what Badge I wanted to wear at FurryFiesta this year (be sure to go next year, up the attendance will ya! A couple of artists were concerned about making their commission quotas to cover their expenses! FF is a great place to get to some of the artists you simply can't approach at larger cons!) I have decided to begin whittling down to just a couple of identities.
I am, and will always be, Ryx. He was one of my earliest Fursonnas and I identify that fursonna as Self. Sundansyr was his brother, created at about the same time, and I won't be removing this profile on FA (primarily because there's no way to transfer favorites and watch lists between accounts).
My works will heretofor fall under two identities. Ryx for my PG works, mostly dealing with Metamor Keep, and Nachtfangen for the more racy stuff. :)
You can also find Nachtfangen on SoFurry and InkBunny.
Thankee, all.
And, again, attend Furry Fiesta next year! :)

Names, finally...
Posted 15 years agoWell, I've finally settled on the names I'll be giving my pups.
Winter (Stormy's Winter Gale)
Lucifur (Stormy's Little Devil)
Shylock (Stormy's Shy Boy)
In general I watched the behavior of the males to figure out which one is which with the males who look almost identical at this age.
Lucifur is curious and bold. He comes out of the den to mingle.
Shylock is, as his name might suggest, more timid. He retreats into the den. I'll have to put a lot more work into socializing him.
Winter is the most bold of the litter - she'll come right up to me and try to eat my pants leg or my fingers (she's not so bad now - fingers don't taste like food). Does not care much for being held but settles quickly enough, as does Lucifur. Shylock submit-freezes; again, more socialization contact.
More pictures soon. They're at 4 weeks and growing swiftly.

Wolves... Domestic?
Posted 15 years agoI learned something new the other day, much to my surprise.
My wolves escaped their enclosure (a feat they accomplish with amazing facility, even as I make it more and more a Fort Knox affair) and got into the neighbor's pasture, managing to take down a calf. :(
Unfortunately the cows to exception to this and managed to kick one of my males fatally. :( :( The next day his puppies were whelped, as you can see by my recent pics. Unfortunately they are in-bred (brother/sister) and I will have to watch them carefully for physical and psychological disorders as recessive traits are amplified by in-breeding. They'll definitely be spayed/neutered, regardless. Hopefully there won't be a need to put any of them down.
At any rate, I had the local Sheriff over at my place a few hours later. He only wrote me a warning citation as he saw I had an enclosure for them and had recovered them (my other male, Stormy's sire, is quite difficult to recover when he gets out).
At any rate, what I learned was that the local Sheriff (and apparently Texas law) sees my animals as domestic pets, even if they are wolves. Domestically bred and raised. I'm not sure where they're classified as 'wild' or 'exotic' pets, but I'm well pleased to learn that the law views them in a less restrictive light.
I may, one day, create a kennel business for the rather amazing number of agriculture tax exemptions I can enjoy, even if I'm able to sell only a few pups at a massive [tax] loss. The things you can write off as operational costs are just mind blowing.
Bat that's for the future, one I understand the ag taxes more thoroughly.
