2014 + Life Updates

Happy New Year everyone. I know it's a few days late, but I've had a few trying days (It's taken Maddy a week to settle back down into her usual routine, before that it was all of the baby dramas).
So this year, I have a few goals - some more ambitious than others. In no particular order:
- Lose weight/get fit again
- Try to get a more steady stream of commissions coming in. I would love to start contributing to the household again (only $150 a month is my goal at the moment) in a financial kind of way and since commissions are my only means of income.. yup.
- Find the missing spark in my art - i feel like something's missing in my coloured works.
- Deck of Playing Cards (a journal will go up about this on Monday).
- keep improving my art (side note: maybe work on my realism and see what happens there)
Of course, this will all be worked around my little miss, who I do have to put first.
Baby Update: Not sure if I mentioned this or not previously, but Maddy is teething, has been for about 5 to 6 weeks now. She's also starting to sit unsupported now and giggles (which is too cute).
I hope that even if 2014 may bring bad things, that you all still manage to laugh and enjoy this coming year.

Mah birthday tomorrow

It's my birthday tomorrow. I turn 24. I'm also getting a day off from everything, which is going to be incredible. Will get to sleep in, read, draw, play pokemon, not change any poopy nappies, not cook, get the house cleaned for me. It's kinda the only thing I really want. I haven't had much of a break in the last 14 and a half weeks and I'm, really feeling it.
Anyway, in the new year, I will start taking commissions again and I plan on working on several things (one if which is my ongoing need to improve on my art and writing). I also have a few awesome things in mind - I want to do playing card commissions. I dunno how many of you will be interested in that, but yeah. I will also be printing off the deck, so we'll see what happens.
But yeah, birthday tomorrow. For now though, I better go put some dinner on.

Ofiicially Yellow

I'm officially yellow now. We went to our GP this morning, after I was told yesterday afternoon by a couple of friends that my eyes looked yellow. Woke up this morning and I was yellower than I was last night/yesterday afternoon, so we went to the GP.
Something is most definitely wrong and so I had more bloods done today to test for a variety of things. So one thing I know for certain that's going to come back poorly is my liver function XD wouldn't be yellow if my liver was functioning correctly and since i have a history of liver failure, it's gonna be interesting.
But for now, just waiting on blood test results. Will probably update this particular journal when I know more.

UPDATE 20/12/13: I've officially had bloods taken three times today. Had to have more done this morning since the tests came back negative (except for my liver, which was still high). So, re-testing my liver function and such and if it's any higher, i'll have to go back to ED so they can do more tests (probably an ultrasound... i love seeing my insides. is that weird?) and figure out what i need from there. the only positive is that all this driving has meant that the bublette is sleeping so super well.

Feeling less sick, although very headachey from this very humid weather, and the pain isn't nearly as bad as it was Monday morning, provided the bublette doesn't push against me there.
So, thinking about downtime, I will not be available the following dates:
24-27 December - Christmas
29 December - my birthday... I turn 24!
Commissions: All commissions will be completed before I go away for Christmas. I will not be taking on any more commissions until after my birthday.

Plan of Attack + Baby Update

So over the last couple of days (while being stuck on the couch with a sick bublette), I've been thinking up a plan of attack in terms of what I want to do during December. I already have a few commitments that I have to work around, but it's not too bad.
So, providing Maddy isn't too difficult, here's roughly what I want to achieve:
- some YCBH's (probably christmas themed) to try and get some spare income in so that we can buy Maddy some christmas presents (even though she won't remember, it's still her first christmas... and she needs more summer clothes)
- write a little bit each day. I'm trying to complete the novel I started last month, so that I can hopefully get it published.
- draw. simple as that. i would love to draw more
- open up for small commissions (sketches, icons, chibis, badges, + line art)
- do a couple of streams
Dates I will not be Available:
- Friday 13th (afternoon and evening): i have stuff to do for my volunteer work
- Saturday 14th: Not going to be home. Personal things.
Baby Update: Maddy's been a bit sick this last week. I've been puked on twice and our housemate has been puked on once. It's not the most fun as she's been very, very grizzly and quite restless. It's been very draining on all of us as awhole. Aside from that, she's growing so, so quickly. It's amazing how long and heavy she's gotten. I can barely believe that less than 10 weeks ago she was so fragile looking.
She's sleeping better during the day while with someone, so now I'm just working on establishing her sleeping in her own bed during the day. It's not a very easy task, but we're getting there slowly. Once she does go down well, I shall hopefully have a bit more time.

Update on Life

Sorry for just dropping off the grid for the last month (?). It's been a very long and very loud month. For the past week though, things have started to settle down again, so I'm able to do a bit more now.
I've been writing, which is why there hasn't been much art. Lots and lots and lots of writing. I really want to get what I'm working on published, so if anyone's interested, I can do updates on that too. So far the first draft is looking good and I can usually get in a good 2,000 words in the evening when Rak or Lopfe have Maddy.
Even though the last week has been pretty settled, I've spent most of it trying to catch up on housework and laundry. Happy to say, nearly there, which makes me happy.
Maddy's growing so quickly now! We had some issues where she just wasn't getting enough food and so we started her on formula as well and she seems to be doing much, much better. She's a lot happier, is growing better. I'm happier because of it. She sleeps so well at night, which is amazing. I actually get at least 6 to 7 hours sleep a night. Maddy's also a great conversationalist. She simply loves babbling and making conversations (even if she only knows a few sounds at this point) and once you get her started, she doesn't stop XD It's hard to believe that she'll be 9 weeks old tomorrow.
Since Christmas is so close (scary!) and I really want to get a few things for the bublette for both christmas and the fact that she needs more clothes soon (she's so long.. like ridiciously so. it's crazy), at the end of the week, or even during the week sometime, I will be opening up for $2 sketch commissions (potentially christmas themed) and $10 chibis (also potentially christmas themed). I was also contemplating doing a deal where if you brought one and it was a gift, I'd throw in something extra (a sketch, an upgrade, an icon.. something like that). I may also post some YCBH's. Commissions are open and if they're for christmas, I will have them done by then.

Exhausted

I just thought I would post an update while I have a few minutes of Maddy napping (for those who are curious, she's going through a faze where she won't freaken sleep... yes this frustrates me and yes i'm feeling more than a little trapped by this and it's not doing wonders on my feeling happy). I'm fine, just really exhausted. Art will be slow as I only get a few minutes a day to myself (it seems... and after dishes get done and dinner cooked).
Also, I'm doing NaNoWriMo this November. I usually have a hand free (though it is very awkward arting on the couch with a baby on your chest) enough to write down the odd thing here and there.
Anyway, seems like she woke up and probably needs changing and a feed, before spending the next three hours getting her to sleep.

Lost My Job, So...

Amongst having Maddy and looking after her, I lost my job. The client (who, I honestly think didn't really know what he wanted and thus made everyone slow down to meet his constantly changing demands) decided to scrap the project and thus, I have no job any more. On top of that, he hasn't paid me (yet... trust me, I'm following up on this like a dog after a bone) and so the bills that were put aside to be paid with the money I'm supposed to receive haven't been paid. One of them is already overdue (was due the day Maddy was born and thus it completely slipped everyone's mind). I need $100 by the end of the week to at least pay the phone bill.

I may also do some pre-poses over the next couple of days. I shall be working on these during the day when Maddy's asleep and any Halloween themed commissions I will try and have done by the end of the month.

Rak went back to work this week, so it's been interesting trying to adjust to being by myself during the day and part of the night (Bunny has evening things she does). I am exhausted from not sleeping well.

Just letting you guys know that I had our baby yesterday afternoon. Maddelyn Mary Annette was born at 2.10 on September 24 and weighed 8 pound 3.
I just feel so incredible and wonderful and all these emotions.mit's just so unbelievable and surreal.

I found out today that I did get the job mentioned in my last journal. The client was extremely happy with the example I made for him and has said that he will pay a bonus if I manage to complete 20 images per week. He is also fine if I do more than that, which is awesome because I plan to do as many as I possibly can between now and when Maddy's born. As I mentioned in my last journal, it's only a 4 week contract, but I can work from home. I was expecting for the client to want much more than that, but 20 images a week is roughly 7 hours a week worth of work, which is definitely manageable, even if Maddy decides to come early.
As such, I am closed for commissions until further notice (probably until after Maddy's born and things have established a routine again). I may take the odd small commission here and there to break the monotony, but otherwise, I will not be taking commissions at this time. Sorry.

Job Application/Opportunity

I just applied for the most perfect job for me. As some of you know, I make teaching resources alongside doing commissions. Well anyway, last night I received an e-mail informing me that there was a paid job going to make very basic images to help people learn Chinese. If I get onto the team, it'll probably lock me into a 4 week contract (to do 1500+ images... so glad they only want simple, flat coloured, images), but I get to work from home. So I'll be able to work at my own pace, take breaks when I need them, etc. It also probably won't be just me working on this, but if I do get it, I plan on doing as many as I can. Heaven knows we need the money.
So yup...

Bullet Dodged

We managed to dodge a pretty big bullet yesterday. I never thought I'd have to use the pregnant and baby cards for something so serious (usually I just pull the pregnant card if I don't want to serve dessert or something trivial like that), but I did and man am I thankful we had those cards to play.
What happened was a friend of my girlfriend's (and sorta me, by proxy, i guess... this person, who I shall call Miss T, is a bit too loud for my tastes, but anyway...) has a 90% chance that she'll have to move. Neither her, nor her fiance, work and they're terrible at budgeting (they're 3 weeks behind in their rent currently and in debt to a friend of mine, whose son I'll be occasionally looking after). Anyway, she stayed the night friday, which is fine. Every now and again is alright, but on saturday they started hinting at wanting to stay on a more long term basis. Both Bunny and I were like nope and Rak when we told him was like nope.
Kinda makes me glad. I know I wouldn't be able to handle not getting some personal space or even time to just bond with Maddy when she's born. I'm not the type of person who handles being around people all the time very well. Boarding school taught me that one.

Projects In the Works (comic related)

As some of you may or may not know, I also write stories (that are all novel in length). As such, one of my projects is that I'm working on a story that comes much, much later than my comic. I've been working on this for off and on for over a year now.
I mention this because it's what inspired my new comic, The Dragon Staff: Creation. I plan on having at least 5 extra pages done before I start posting it and I want to start posting it about half way through this month. So, if you have any questions, feel free to ask them!
Also, I'm working on a kind of encyclopedia type thing about TDS: Creation and about my world, Keirth, in general. I have no clue if anybody would be interested in reading any of my notes about my world (which is quite extensive as it's a world that all my stories have been based in and so is almost 10 years old! I've also just started writing out the details of Keirth, which I've never done before). I would also offer Creation notes, but that would spoil the plot XD

8 Weeks Left (pregnancy update)

Only 8 more weeks until my due date - although Maddy may not even come on Sept. 25th. She may come early or she may come late. So much movement though. It's a really weird feeling.
Anyway, closer to my due date, I'll be going on hiatus for a little bit (at least a week around when she's born to deal with people wanting to visit and to recover), but I'll probably post a journal closer to the time anyway.

So very happy (baby related)!!!!!!

I just got a phone call from my Mum to tell me that a good friend of the family (who we've known for yonks), has given her well over $400 worth of baby gear (including clothes, bottles and a random assortment of other things) that are all either brand spanking new or have only been worn a handful of times and are in immaculate condition.
This news has honestly made my day! It's just taken a huge load off my mind of how we're going to afford to buy all of that stuff. I'm so happy I started crying with joy. It's just simply amazing. The family friend was given all of this stuff from a client of hers and since she had no use for it (her granddaughter is at primary school now), she gave it to Mum for us. It's just so incredible and so unbelievable. No words can express how happy I am about all of this.
Hopefully on Wednesday we'll find out the sex of our baby and then my whole week will be made.
I hope everyone's having/had a fantastic day!

We got home tonight. The funeral was yesterday, not Thursday like it was originally planned. I am so exhausted, I could collapse into bed now if it weren't for that I should probably eat some dinner and have a shower. I'll get back into the swing of things on Monday. Just gonna take tomorrow to unwind, relax, sleep (all of the sleep x.x) and all of that goodness (and spend some time with our two fluff balls who apparently really missed us these last five days).
This week I have a mid-wife appointment and ultra-sound scan on Wednesday and in a couple of weeks we'll be going back as Rak's Step-Dad's daughter will be over from France.
I dunno what else to say really. I plan on doing a donation comic at some point this month and I'm still open for commissions.
Anyway, hope you all had a much, much, much better week than I did.

Away for a Funeral

Raknar's step-dad's Mum passed away last night in her sleep. We got the phone call just as we were all going to bed, so Rak's busy spending the day at work and explaining why he needs the time off (which should be granted).
We'll be going up either tomorrow or Wednesday (today's Monday) to help support Rak's step-dad and his Mum and to attend the funeral. We'll be back at the end of the week. So today I shall be spending doing laundry, digging up tidy clothes that'll fit over my baby bump and baking (since I want to take baking with us to ease some of the pressure of providing nibbles for family when they show up).
Not my ideal week, but it happens. So yup. We'll take the ipad and I may take my laptop (probably not, will probably just take my sketchbook), but mostly I'll be away for the rest of the week.
My apologies to those waiting on art from me.

Pregnancy Update - Home Stretch?

Third trimester at last!!!!!!!!!! Just 12 more weeks (give or take a couple) and we'll have a little baby in our home. So if everything goes all silent around Sept. 25 (my due date), that'll be why. Probably around that time, I'll take some actual time off, not this 'i don't feel motivated because i'm really freaking out about everything' time off I've been doing this past week.
It's a scary thought and I truly am starting to freak out, a lot. Those who know me, know I don't tend to freak or panic, but I am. I just feel that there's not a lot of time left and we're not ready and financially we're not ready and the only thing helping is baking. So, there's been a lot of cookies and a lot of cupcakes being made. I might make brownies today.
There's lots and lots and lots of movement now and if baby kicks really hard towards the outside, you can see my belly move. It's kinda cool when that happens in the bath ^-^ Also, we still don't know the gender, but we might be able to find out at my 30 week scan in two weeks. Maddelyn if it's a girl and Michael if it's a boy ^-^

I'm currently working on a butterfly girl adoptable (though I don't mind if the gender gets changed) and since I've never done this before, I was wondering how much you would reasonably spend on an adoptable?
Keep in mind, this will be a one off design. It's a butterfly anthro, so there's wings involved with a semi-complex design on them. I was also thinking of offering 50% off a regular commission to who-ever buys her.
