Child of the steppe
Posted 16 years agoWhile I find it odd that some people, random strangers, call me by an intimate pet name, I don't mind all that much.
However, I do mind the spelling.
Observe: Hun
Spell it 'hon' (short for 'honey' for any non-english speakers) and I'm fine, if perplexed. But please do not call me the name of a asian great steppe tribe.
That is all.
Edit: Text is notoriously poor to convey emotions without describing what you feel, so let me elaborate.
This isn't something that drives me livid, it's just mildly annoying and I thought I'd mention it. ;)

(Somewhat) Serious version:
The portal of doom.
It was a windy sunday afternoon. I had just returned from my daily workout and was in no mood for nonsense. My uniform was green and I was dressed to kill,
wearing my FN SCAR-H rifle, Glock 19 and an old snub-nose .38 for good measure.
Upon opening the barracks door an ifrit suddenly jumped me from out of nowhere.
Initially I was surprised but one doesn't keep training for nothing, and I promptly retaliated by firing the SCAR point blank.
You don't mess with a rifle filled to the brim with hot lead and cordite.
Honestly, I don't hate surprise attacks, but I do find it to be annoying, especially on sundays.
Anyway, I digress, I told the ifrit to bloody well chill, oddly enough, the only reply I got was "No time, the entire realm of Hel is on fire!"
Surprise doesn't begin to cover it.
I sent the ifrit on its way and discussed plans with my officers for the rest of the evening.
Okay, not really a portal of doom, but hey, it's my story.
Next week I'll tell you about the succubus who appeared in my kitchen!
Jeez.
(Mostly) Silly version:
The pie of doom.
It was a rainy sunday evening. I had just returned from my daily alchemy session and was in no mood for nonsense. My hair was green and I was dressed to kill,
wearing my camos, apron and welder goggles (pushed up on the head) for good measure.
Upon opening the kitchen door a succubus suddenly jumped me from out of nowhere.
Initially I was petrified but one doesn't keep 'I will survive' on the mp3 for nothing, and I promptly retaliated by flinging my alchemical work into her face.
You don't mess with a pie filled to the brim with lemon and cream.
Honestly, I don't hate getting jumped, but I do find it to be distracting, especially on sundays.
Anyway, I digress, I told the succuus to bloody well chill, oddly enough, the only reply I got was "Help, help, my face is on fire!"
Surprise doesn't begin to cover it.
I sent the succubus on its way and played hockey with Jen for the rest of the evening (she won).
Okay, not really a pie of doom, but hey, it's my story.
Next week I'll tell you about the strange little critters who stole my left sock!
Jeez.

All quiet on the western front...
Posted 16 years ago...because I don't have anything important to say, so here's anpother of those internet tests.
Saw this floating around FA and decided to check it out.
Had to take it twice to get all the options that I thought fit me (took it a third time too actually, but it produced the same result as one of the other times).
It's incomplete (of course), but fairly accurate as far as it goes.
9 - the Peacemaker
"I am at peace"
Peacemakers are receptive, good-natured, and supportive. They seek union with others and the world around them.
How to Get Along with Me
• If you want me to do something, how you ask is important. I especially don't like expectations or pressure.
• I like to listen and to be of service, but don't take advantage of this.
• Listen until I finish speaking, even though I meander a bit.
• Give me time to finish things and make decisions. It's OK to nudge me gently and nonjudgmentally.
• Ask me questions to help me get clear.
• Tell me when you like how I look. I'm not averse to flattery.
• Hug me, show physical affection. It opens me up to my feelings.
• I like a good discussion but not a confrontation.
• Let me know you like what I've done or said.
• Laugh with me and share in my enjoyment of life.
What I Like About Being a NINE
• being nonjudgmental and accepting
• caring for and being concerned about others
• being able to relax and have a good time
• knowing that most people enjoy my company; I'm easy to be around
• my ability to see many different sides of an issue and to be a good mediator and facilitator
• my heightened awareness of sensations, aesthetics, and the here and now
• being able to go with the flow and feel one with the universe
What's Hard About Being a NINE
• being judged and misunderstood for being placid and/or indecisive
• being critical of myself for lacking initiative and discipline
• being too sensitive to criticism; taking every raised eyebrow and twitch of the mouth personally
• being confused about what I really want
• caring too much about what others will think of me
• not being listened to or taken seriously
NINEs as Children Often
• feel ignored and that their wants, opinions, and feelings are unimportant
• tune out a lot, especially when others argue
• are "good" children: deny anger or keep it to themselves
NINEs as Parents
• are supportive, kind, and warm
• are sometimes overly permissive or nondirective
5 - the Observer
"I need to understand the world"
Observers have a need for knowledge and are introverted, curious, analytical, and insightful.
How to Get Along with Me
• Be independent, not clingy.
• Speak in a straightforward and brief manner.
• I need time alone to process my feelings and thoughts.
• Remember that If I seem aloof, distant, or arrogant, it may be that I am feeling uncomfortable.
• Make me feel welcome, but not too intensely, or I might doubt your sincerity.
• If I become irritated when I have to repeat things, it may be because it was such an effort to get my thoughts out in the first place.
• don't come on like a bulldozer.
• Help me to avoid my pet peeves: big parties, other people's loud music, overdone emotions, and intrusions on my privacy.
What I Like About Being a FIVE
• standing back and viewing life objectively
• coming to a thorough understanding; perceiving causes and effects
• my sense of integrity: doing what I think is right and not being influenced by social pressure
• not being caught up in material possessions and status
• being calm in a crisis
What's Hard About Being a FIVE
• being slow to put my knowledge and insights out in the world
• feeling bad when I act defensive or like a know-it-all
• being pressured to be with people when I don't want to be
• watching others with better social skills, but less intelligence or technical skill, do better professionally
FIVEs as Children Often
• spend a lot of time alone reading, making collections, and so on
• have a few special friends rather than many
• are very bright and curious and do well in school
• have independent minds and often question their parents and teachers
• watch events from a detached point of view, gathering information
• assume a poker face in order not to look afraid
• are sensitive; avoid interpersonal conflict
• feel intruded upon and controlled and/or ignored and neglected
FIVEs as Parents
• are often kind, perceptive, and devoted
• are sometimes authoritarian and demanding
• may expect more intellectual achievement than is developmentally appropriate
• may be intolerant of their children expressing strong emotions
Take the test yourself.

To be honest, these kind of memes always strike me as a bit absurd. Since almost all people are a mix of what is stereotypically considered male and female, these things come across more like something designed to make you conform to the stereotype for fear of being considered weird.
No matter how much % male or female you are, you're still 100% person.
The stereotypes can go fuck themselves. ;)

Posted 16 years agoThere's a simple bit of advice I've taken and tweaked from an old informercial that helps me to not make to much of an asshole of myself on the net.
Don't post angry.
If a post offends me or make my upset, I almost never post a reply right away. Instead I go and do something else for a while until I either can make a constructive response or let it go entirely.
The reason? I ask myself: What would you wish in return?

Suntiger's voice meme
Posted 16 years agoAfter seeing the voice meme floating around on FA I was intrigued by the concept, but put off by the questions. With a few exceptions they seemed bland and boring, like filling out an application for something.
Going by the old saying “If you want something done, do it yourself” I therefore decided to make my own voice meme.
Although I did nick the 11th question from the other voice meme.
Suntiger's whimsical voice meme!
(Except for question 11...)
1. Do you give pet names to inanimate objects?
2. Do you believe in a life after birth? (No, 'birth' is not a typo.)
3. Try to sound like a constipated owl.
4. Say “My name is [insert your own name]” in as many languages as you can.
5. Sing a bit of a song you like. (This part is voluntary.)
6. Do you know how to defend yourself from an attacker if you are unarmed?
7. Did you have a pet growing up? Which kind/s?
8. Do you often use stereotypes to define other people?
9. Ice cream, chocolate, or both?
10. What is your best party trick?
11. Quick! Find a book, or something with text on it! Flip to a random page and read some of it! GO!
12. Say something in a “dramatic narration” voice.
13. Say something in a creepy, evil voice.
14. Name four things that makes you happy, and why.
Some of these questions and statements are silly, but don't be afraid to make a fool of yourself a bit.
Learning to laugh at yourself is important and remember; only the opinions of the people you care about matters! ^_^

Slowing down for Yule
Posted 16 years agoSpending the Yule holiday at mom and her bf's place in the boonies, which means a slow internet connection.
Won't be able to watch FA much since all the art makes the pages take an age to load.
Bit of a pity because I have several artworks in the making I'd like to see but oh well.
A good Yule to you, folks!

Video games
Posted 17 years ago1) What was your FIRST video game console?
The NES
2) Name a few games you played on said console. The ones you played the most.
Super Mario Bros 1 and 3
Zelda, Zelda 2
Shadow Warrior
Turtles 2
Excite Bike
3) Excluding handhelds, how many VG consoles do you own presently?
Two.
My old NES and a PS1, both stashed in the closet these days.
4) Were you a Street Fighter nut? Any character in particular?
Nope.
I played Street Fighter 2 with my friends in school, but I didn't own the game or a SNES myself.
5) If you think Capcom is a FUCKING awesome company with kickass character designs, I would like to hear a "hell yes" followed by a Capcom character you love.
They are ok. I remember liking Chun Li because of her Wind Kick.
6) Here's the scenario.. You had some friends over and you all ate FRIED CHICKEN! After the meal you all decide to play some video games. As your friend reaches for a controller you notice his/her hands are very "greasy." Are you the type that would insist they wash their hands before pawing the controller, or is it no big deal?
I'd expect everyone, myself included, to clean the hands before playing.
7) What's your favorite RPG/Action RPG? I will allow a second and third fave if you insist.
Morrowind, especially with mods.
8) Do you prefer 2D games or 3D games?
I prefer good games. 2D or 3D is irrelevant.
9) Are you an SNK fan?
What?
9) Are you good at DDR?
Never played it.
10) Who wants to kick that dog's ass from Duck Hunt?
That I'll get behind... Hell yes!
11) Have you skipped out on important events in life because of video games?
Not really. Some less important ones though.
12) Do you listen to video game music?
As I play the game.
13) Have you ever cosplayed a VG character..?
No.
14) Have you ever been in an arcade playing a fighting game, KICKING ASS, and then some 6 year old asian kid comes in and OWNS YOU??
I assume you mean arcade hall and not a real arcacde? ;)
The answer is no.
15) Name three games you would love to see remakes of if it was done properly.
In this case I would say 'properly' is doing it like they did with Bionic Commando. Just so you know what kind of 'properly' I'm referring to.
Zelda 2, Metroid and Kid Icarus.
16) Mario or Sonic?
Like both.
17) When a movie shows up in the theaters, let's use SpiderMan as an example, are you likely to buy the GAME version?
No. In fact, HELL no.
18) What is your LEAST favorite genre of video games? (ex. fighting, sports, shooters, etc.)
Sport games I think. They are mostly just button mashing without even the combinations of the fighting games.
It's funnier by far to try out the sport for real.
19) Is there a game out there that you feel was unique and didn't get enough love? You can name a few if you want to.
"Drakan - Order of the Flame" and its sequel.
Not unique perhaps (though the first game was the first, as far as I know, to feature aerial combat with dragons and other flying critters) but definitely underappreciated.
20) Have you ever verbally abused a game because you couldn't beat one of the levels and/or bosses?
I probably did, but I can't remember it.
21) Do you own any VG apparel?
Nope.
22) What are your thoughts on the live-action Super Mario Bros movie?
It was horrible. It didn't seem like Mario Bros at all.
However, I'm not sure they could have made a good live action Mario Bros film.
23) On that note, what did you think about the live-action Street Fighter movie?
*shudders*
Raul Julia is a bit of a saving grace with his amusingly overacted M. Bison but... No, I think it is horrible.
24) Who hottest out of these three KOF chicks IYHO?
Haven't played KOF.
25) Do you say "old-school" a lot when you're having a VG conversation with others?
Not really.
26) Have you ever lent someone a game and they returned it to you damaged?
Nope. I've been fortunate that way.
27) Do you own any imported games?
No.
28) Are you ready for this meme to be over, or could you keep going?
I'm ready for it to be over.
29) In this scenario, let's pretend you're going to get a video game tattoo! What would you get and where? This can be simple or elaborate.
Since it's a what if...
An S.P.Q.R. banner from Rome -Total War
30) Have you ever cried after you beat a game? If so why?
Nope.

Bestiality Fetish
Posted 17 years agoI know that a lot of people unfamiliar with the furry fandom thinks it is for people who like bestiality.
They also count it as bestiality if the human's partner is a humanoid anthro, not only if it is a real animal without self awareness and capability of abstract thinking. Ergo, if it's a different species, even intelligent, it's bestiality.
Technically they're correct because it isn't the same species, but they conveniently forget that the 'bestiality' label then applies to aliens, fantasy races and undead as well, including Star Trek, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings (Yup, Aragorn's into bestiality by their definition ;) ), World of Warcraft, Blade, Anne Rice novels etc etc.
Anyway...
In the sidestory currently being posted on Drowtales, those ignoramuses get to feel what it's like when the shoe's on the other foot.
Drowtales has its perspective from the elves and drow point of view.
In the setting, humans (and the other goblin races) have no magic, no aura and therefore no soul in their eyes.
Cue this page.

The age old questions...

Sublimate
Here goes:
1. How do you generally design your characters?
I get inspired by something, usually something that becomes a part of the character's backstory, and start to put it together on a character sheet
2. How did you decide on your fursona/s species?
Originally it was a Mary Sue of me, from my teenage years.
As I grew up, so did my character and now he's not a Mary Sue of me any more (thank the gods). He stands on his own these days.
3. What are your 5 favorite species?
In no particular order; Humans, Cats (great and small), Elves, Angels/Devils, Wolves
4. Ok, ok, you can extend it to 10.
Why thank you: Dragons, Halflings, Fairies, Spiders, Gryphons
5. Have you made characters out of all of these?
Nope.

Even when it's part of their job, like for the succubi.
11. 'Stereotypical' male:
Vanial
12. 'Stereotypical' female:
Closest is probably Nalita. When she's off duty.
13. Tomboy:
Lots and lots of them. ;)
14. Girlyboi:
Andy
15. Androgynous/genderless:
Kim
16. Fastest character:
Tam
17. Most muscular:
Garret
18. Thinnest character:
Louise
19. Chubbiest/heaviest character:
Daniel Kel'szovar, mostly because of a higher muscle density.
20. Deformed character:
None so far.
21. Most fun to draw:
Not applicable ;)
22. Any Mary-Sues?
Not any more, or so I'd like to think.
23. Draw pr0n?
I don't draw, but I did I'd do porn too.

The Controversial Survey
Posted 17 years agoGah, I'm becoming a meme whore.
Oh well, at least this one isn't about pop culture. :P
1. Do you have the guts to answer these questions and re-post as The Controversial Survey?
Apparently. ;)
2. Would you do meth if it was legalized?
Nope.
3. Abortion: for or against it?
For it.
It should not be used instead of contraceptives, but it should be an option.
4. Do you think the world would fail with a female president?
There's already been several female presidents and the world didn't end...
5. Do you believe in the death penalty?
The question is a bit oddly formulated, but no.
I think that's too lenient.
6. Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already?
No. I'm fine with it being legalized but personally I don't care either way.
7. Are you for or against premarital sex?
Sounds like I would actively advocate either option by the way the question is stated. ;)
I don't mind it. Practice sex safely, regardless if you're married or not.
8. Do you believe in God?
Gods, but yes. It's more fun that way. ;)
9. Do you think same sex marriage should be legalized?
Yes.
10. Do you think it's wrong that so many Hispanics are illegally moving to the USA?
No, they are needed to keep the country running.
I don't think the situation are handled very well though, either from the government side or the immigrants themselves, but that's another matter.
11. A twelve year old girl has a baby, should she keep it?
Only if she has parents or guardians who can help her take care of it.
She's not ready to do so on her own.
12. Should the alcohol age be lowered to eighteen?
Yes. I don't think many 18-year-olds can handle it, but since many people in their 30's and 40's can't handle it either...
Personally it doesn't matter because I don't drink.
13. Should the war in Iraq be called off?
No. I'd be glad to if it could be, but at this point it would be disastrous to pull out.
14. Assisted suicide is illegal: do you agree?
I don't think is should be. It should be legal and handled on a case-by-case basis.
15. Do you believe in spanking your children?
Yes, as long as you hug them as much or more than you spank them.
16. Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars?
Depends a bit on the context it is made.
If it's on national TV and there's a crowd around me shouting hate propaganda I would not. Not for 10 million.
If it was done as a dare or something I would. I don't hate the US so it wouldn't mean much. I'd do the same with a Swedish flag. Burning it wouldn't change my love for my country.
17. Who do you think would make a better president? McCain or Obama?
Not terribly fond of either of them.
Despite agreeing more with Obama on more issues I'd say McCain, because the situation in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Preferably neither of them would take office.
18. Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answers?
No. People judge me anyway. This won't change much.

Halloween meme
Posted 17 years agoNicked from

Normally don't do these things, but this one was pretty funny.
1. What does Halloween mean to you?
Don't really celebrate Halloween, it's All Saint's day here, so for me it's about paying your respects to the dead and remember them.
2. What is the best song that would sum up Halloween for you?
Danse Macabre (Dance of Death, more or less)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZ_w_ZLmqAU
3. Whats the worse thing to happen to you on Halloween?
Could happen or has happened?
Could happen is the same as any other day and has happened...
Well, to be honest nothing really stands out so I guess nothing really bad has happened to me on Halloween.
4. Whats the worse candy that you've ever gotten on a trick or treating raid?
I don't trick or treat, nor did I do it as a kid. ;)
5. What movies do you think make up for the best all night spooktacular?
An Alfred Hitchcock marathon. Must include 'Psycho' and 'Birds'.
The first Alien film is good as well.
6. What movie would you never ever want to miss seeing at Halloween?
Don't care that much. ;)
7. Do you like to listen to Halloween themed music during October?
Not more than any other month. Some of the music I listen to fits for Halloween (like Helloween :P) but I listen to that all year round anyway.
8. Now for something completely different. Do you believe in ghosts?
Yes.
9. If you answered yes have you ever seen, heard, or felt a ghost?
Nope.
10. What about other things that go bump in the night?
Heck, I go bump in the night sometimes when going to the bathroom at night. :P
Seriously though. I think there are stuff that science can't explain (yet) but it's not as much supernatural as much as things we simply don't know enough about or understand. And yes, I believe that goes for ghosts/spirits too.
11. Tell me about something that scared you during Halloween.
The bills... *shudders*
12. Where is the scariest place you've been on Halloween?
Probably the subway late at night.
I can't say the cemetery because at All Saint's day those are just beautiful, if a bit sad, with all the candles lit on the graves.

Difference between anthros and ferals
Posted 17 years agoI saw a comment on a site that said that nekomimi and other japanese 'ears and tail' critters had the emphasis on girl/boy and counted as humans, while in the west anthros doesn't have just the ears and tail but usually have fur all over and are therefore counted as animals.
I found that distinction a bit odd, so I replied with this:
Indeed, furries/anthros are more of a western thing.
However, the distinction usually goes a bit like this:
* Animals (Azrael from the Smurfs, Pluto)
* Talking Animals (Wilbur from 'Charlotte's Web', Jiji from 'Kiki's delivery service', Puss in boots)
* Anthros (Disney's 'Robin Hood', Thundercats, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Uncle Scrooge, Donald Duck, Goofy, Mickey Mouse, Hell - the Carebears!)
Animals usually walk on four legs, act like animals and can't communicate verbally with humans.
Talking Animals also usually walks on four legs but act like humans or a mix of human and animal. They can usually, but not always (Watership Down), communicate with humans.
Anthros usually walk on two legs and commonly have a recognizable civilization and culture that a human can easily recognize and identify with. They can also usually communicate with humans (sometimes they're aliens, so communication might be an issue despite a quite advanced civilization).
Basically the first category are animals, while the other two categories are people, though non-human people.
If you have a problem with that, consider this line:
"It is not what I am, but what I do that defines me."
_____
Now what I wondered was; is this something others agree with, or am I deluded, confused and ignorant?
If you comment on this please put in why you agree or not. :)

For those about to rock...
Posted 17 years agoBroadband is back since around new-years, but I've been very busy for, well, the entire year more or less.
Been keeping a very low profile here and will probably continue to do so but I should be able to comment a bit more on all the lovely submissiv- er, submissions the artists place here.
And there are some real awesome works being made too. If only there was more time to properly appreciate them...
Will be going to Sweden Rock Festival next week. Little to no internet, but a heap of great bands. ^_^

Still bandwidth-challeneged...
Posted 17 years agoMy broadband is *still* down. 3,5 months now. If my provider hasn't solved it by x-mas, I'll demand my money back and switch to someone who can deliver the service I pay for.
Ben really busy IRL too. Lots to do at work. It's been almost two moths of constant overtime. Not always a lot of overtime, but it all adds up.
It makes people sick, which means the rest of us have to do more work, and the we get sick etc. etc.
Add to that the fact our club have got a new dojo, which we have to renovate and prepare before we can start using it, so I spend quite some time there as well.
Heh, at least I won't have any problems with boredom...
I'll try to get some updates in soon, but I honestly don't know when I can get something up.

Some improvements
Posted 18 years agoWell, I'm still just as busy, but now I got a new desktop and I've fixed cables to get the old hard drive installed in the new computer.
I'm having some access problems to some of the folders on the old HD, but I'll look into that when I get the time.
Broadband still not fixed. Two months now. Yay.

Techincal difficulties
Posted 18 years agoWonderful. First my broadband gives out, again. It's been doing that in 6 month intervalls for three years now.
Luckily I had a wireless modem, so I could still access the net.
The my desktop goes and die on me too.
So here I am, with my trusty laptop. It's pretty old by now though. 5 years I think, quite liekly more. It's showing it's age by being a bit slow, but, on the other hand it works, which the newer, more powerful desktop doesn't...
Anyway, bottom line is that I'm going to keep a pretty low profile both when it comes to uploading stuff and commenting on new art posted by people on my watch list.
It takes too much time, which I don't have much to spare of.
Just so you don't think I'm suddenly ignoring you guys. ;)
