General | Posted 7 years agoSo like I copied an old script from Superbird's old file (screenshot saving; don't reinvent the wheel) and it broke half the reflection probes in the scenes.
So I have several light maps to remake >.<
Hopefully it'll be ready by tomorrow.

General | Posted 7 years agoI was thinking of doing a Castlevania parody, but quite frankly, the idea of a 3D side scroller seems more limiting and a bother, plus...
Making models based off reference pictures of random furries has been fun, not to mention going up to random people in the fandom and asking if they want to be in a video game (usually they say yes) is nice too.
So I was thinking
I'd make a game with a similar control scheme to Quest Of Something, but with a gameplay style of Banjo Tooie- as in, you explore various worlds and find the quests as you go. I'd experiment with random features in the Unity Engine, random editor extensions, etc. and keep going until the project files reach 1 GB (2 GB is the limit on bitbucket and github), then wrap up the game.
Basically hack together whatever I feel like.
It'd still be Superbird and it'll still be cute and silly; just won't involve vampires and the undead.

So last sunday at the UU Church
General | Posted 7 years agoNote to self: don't take notes in Fast Notepad. When you upload to Google Drive, it doesn't save newline characters. .-.
Anyway....
The sermon started with the chant, with some music provided by drums:
No more holding back, be reckless.
No more holding back, be reckless.
Tell your love to everyone.
Tell your love to everyone.
(repeat, and do this one on the last chant)
No more holding back, be reckless.
No more holding back, be reckless.
Tell your love to everyone.
Tell your love to everyone.
Tell your love to everyone.
Tell your love to everyone.
For me, not holding back is hard for me on spiritual subjects. I went through a lot of arguments and fights in my teens for not being Christian and I'd rather avoid drama. I'm actually very afraid of dealing with Christians as my parents tried to "fix" me by forcing me to go to more meetings. Part of the reason I don't link my deviant art to my website (as I post some spiritual art on there)
I kinda want to proclaim to the world that I'm going to that UU Church, but again, given my history talking about what I believe to Christians, I'd rather avoid drama. =/
So apparently, God is a creative being, and much like when we are creative, the universe began with an explosion of ideas. And from the darkness came light. Throughout all cultures on earth, light has always been worshipped and considered divine.
The sermon also explained the reason behind the UU symbol. It was originally a seal put on false passports to help Jews and Unitarians escape the NAZIs during World War 2.
There are three pieces to the symbol that each have their own meaning:
1.) The cup: representing a priest who believed there was no blblical reason why only the priests could drink the wine in communion. He gave the wine to citizens
2.) The flame in the cup: both the light of openness and knowledge, and also because the priest mentioned above was burned to the stake for his "heresy"
3.) the circle: representing the unity in all religions
At the end of the service, we were asked to either color the chalice on our pamphlet or write some words. I chose the second:
"We are one, together we stand.
We live together in this sacred land.
No jew nor greek, no slave nor free.
Nor Hindu or Buddhist,
Just humans; you and me."
I also joined a writing group that meets once a month. Next month's theme is mystery. I think I will write of the mystery of God and the cosmos.

Don't get me wrong, level geometry editing is fun either way
General | Posted 7 years ago....but lightmaps take FOREVER in Unity.
Especially when you multitask, script some stuff, and then forget the lightmap is still building when you press the play button to test said script.
And all your progress building the lightmap gets erased.
Davidi Hunt didn't require any lightmaps since it was a solid color (it wouldn't look like it was made of tiles if it cast any shadows), which made level design more fun... =/
On the other hand, getting it to constrain with dozens of textures to represent different tiles was a pain.

General | Posted 7 years agoThis month's theme is creativity, and last Sunday they told a children's story. This is a retelling by memory, so I don't remember the names, but....
There was a street were every house was the same- red bricks and a black roof. Mr Fluffer loved being on the street and being the same...but then one day, a bird carrying an orange bucket of paint flew over Mr Fluffer's house and he dropped a big orange splat of paint on his house. Mr Fluffer saw the paint splat, looked outside, and just stared at it...and left it there.
After a few days, the neighbors said, "We are sick of seeing that orange splat. You need to paint your house."
"Okay," Mr Fluffer said. And he painted his roof sky blue and his walls white, keeping the orange splat on the roof.
"He's lost his mind!" the neighbors said.
"This is my house, and I'm me," Mr Fluffer replied.
And the next day he planted some trees, an alligator, and a hammock. His neighbors once again said, "He's lost it." they asked his next door neighbor Joe to go over and talk to him.
Joe went to Mr Fluffer's house, had a nice chat...
And the next morning Joe's house looked like a cruise ship. The neighbors said, "Joe has lost it, too." So they went over to speak to him, and one by one, everyone's houses changed and expressed their hopes and dreams.
When people go down that street now and see the wide and diverse designs, they think "these people are strange..." but they are just being themselves.
It's a goofy story, but I enjoyed it. xD
Looking forward to this Sunday, and also the Wednesday potluck I'm going to. ^.^

General | Posted 7 years agoNothing like a disturbing dream to make you wide awake earlier than usual. .-.
So there was this kid who's left eye was outside of his head, like one foot outside his head and he looked like he was in a lot of pain. I winced just looking at him. Then I noticed that the right side of his brain was exposed...it felt numb to him, then he looked at it with his outside eye, had a paranoid moment and screamed "DON'T LET IT GET ME!" and tried to rip it out.

My first time at the Unitarian Church
General | Posted 7 years agoA few people asked me to tell them how it went, so...
It was excellent. A bit overwhelming though; I was twitching because of all the positive energy. It's been a long time since I even set foot in a Church, much less one that teaches all faiths lead to truth and God.
I wish I brought a keyboard to take notes, because I don't think I'll remember everything.
Today they taught from Buddhist faith. They opened up the sermon with a plate that the attenders could decorate with paint, and they talked about how Buddhists do the same thing but with colored sand...then, when they are done, they dump the sand into the water to signify that no things last forever.
And that is the cause of suffering- attachment to temporary things.
All things are temporary, but at the same time, there is no beginning or end. There is only change.
During World War 2, there were posters that Britain put up of the crown that said "Keep calm and carry on" as an attempt to improve morale and be less attached during those stressful times. It worked well- and many years after the war, the posters were recovered and became the famous "keep calm and <x>" meme.
That's about all I remember. I'm thinking of joining some of the groups the Church offers, but right now I'm overwhelmed from the experience. Looking forward to next week.

A story of a lost love
General | Posted 7 years agoHer name was Lorie...I liked to press her buttons. When I pressed the right one, I turned her on. She'd do whatever I asked her too as long as I kept pushing her buttons.
We did so much together- art, video games, watching videos, programming...the whole time she shone so brightly.
Then one day I accidentally melted a candle in her fan and a laptop.
Lorie was a laptop.
She actually lasted surprisingly long after that but eventually she died off. o.o

General | Posted 7 years agoDon't give them money- buy them food. Yes, it's more trouble, but...
Today on my way back from Walmart I came across this guy who was skin and bones, obviously hadn't eaten in weeks. I had no cash on me, so I came back to the house, told my mom what I saw, and she reminded me that he might be an addict which is why he wasn't eating.
Withdrawal can do pretty serious damage, and it reminded me of a rule she told me: give them food, not money. An addict, depending on how bad their case is, might literally choose to buy more drugs when they desperately need food.
So I came back, got a coupon that could be redeemed twice (Hardee's has excellent coupons), and bought him two meals. He was pretty grateful.
I'm not always much of a do-gooder to be honest. I really only take people under my wing when either they're desperate, or if nobody else is stepping up. =/

Althea by Grateful Dead
General | Posted 7 years agoI told Althea I was feeling lost
Lacking in some direction
Althea told me upon scrutiny
That my back might need protection
I told Althea that treachery
Was tearing me limb from limb
Althea told me, now cool down boy
Settle back easy, Jim
You may be Saturday's child all grown
Moving with a pinch of grace
You may be a clown in the burying ground
Or just another pretty face
You may be the fate of Ophelia
Sleeping and perchance to dream
Honest to the point of recklessness
Self-centred to the extreme
Ain't nobody messin' with you but you
Your friends are getting most concerned
Loose with the truth, maybe its your fire
Baby I hope you don't get burned
When the smoke has cleared, she said
That's what she said to me
You're gonna want a bed to lay your head
And a little sympathy
There are things you can replace
And others you cannot
The time has come to weigh those things
This space is gettin' hot
You know this space is gettin' hot
I told Althea, I'm a roving sign
That I was born to be a bachelor
Althea told me, OK that's fine
So now I'm trying to catch her
Can't talk to you without talking to me
We're guilty of the same old things
Thinking a lot about less and less
And forgetting the love we bring
