Feels like I've lost touch these past few years. Keep trying to get back to writing and keep struggling to find motivation and inspiration. All in all, feel pretty run down, and like I've let you all down.

Not sure what to say, just... stopping in to say hi, I suppose.

When you sit down at something like, I dunno, 4:30 in the afternoon, and you're so tired that by the time you think to look at a clock, you're shocked because it's now 8:00? Yeah. It was one of those days.

Well, I've got some bad news to report. This past Monday, I was involved in a motorcycle-on-car incident. A driver turned in front of me from the oncoming lanes in an intersection, and stopped in the middle of the road. I locked up the rear, but couldn't stop fast enough, and glanced off their front bumper. Luckily, it was low speed and I escaped with mostly scrapes and bruises, and a hairline fracture in my left hand. The 1200 has some pretty heavy cosmetic damage, and as-of-yet unidentified steering damage. The forks could have just turned in the clamps, or they could be bent. I won't know and can't mess with it until the other driver's insurance takes a look.

I just started playing this game today. I'm not too far in, but wow. This game sure knows how to mess with your heart. Really amazing, though. I'm looking forward to playing more.

10 Facts about Me

1. I'm a hardcore horsepower junkie - fancy hoity toity sporty cars are boring to me. I find joy in a big block V8 with a twin-screw blower pushing more displacement than your average V6 sitting on top. If you can lift the front tires off the ground, or smoke the rears in a roll-on at 80 mph, you don't need to turn!

2. I'm currently signed on as a Creative Writing major with a Geology minor - an odd combination, apparently!

3. I've got a bit of a thing for the color blue... don't know why. Especially iridescent blue.

4. I've got more facial hair than most my age. Most estimates from strangers put me five to ten years over my actual age...

5. Though I ride a motorcycle and often walk about in a heavy leather jacket, I lack the stereotypical attitude. I once had a high school teacher describe me as "the world's nicest biker". I took it as a compliment.

6. I could not care less about fashion for the most part. Most of my wardrobe consists of blue jeans (all of which cost less than 50 dollars) and T-shirts in various shades of grey. Most are Harley or motorcycle related. Of course. My determining factors are: does it fit/is comfortable? Does it cover my butt?

7. Both of my daily drivers (Truck and motorcycle) are from the 1970s. As is my taste in clothing and music.

8. Though I'm not your typical tree hugger, I appreciate nature more than most. My grand ambitions for a dream house consist of a tiny single floor cabin off in the forest somewhere (preferably in the mountains). To me, that's living the dream.

9. I tend to be a very logical person when it comes to 'trivial' things. I've got to have a clear reason or endgame to convince myself to do something. Otherwise, finding motivation is typically an uphill battle. A good example is the idea of just "going for a cruise". I used to struggle with the idea unless I had a specific destination in mind. Thankfully, I'm working past that little quirk.

10. I absolutely love having a keepsake in my pocket, mainly coins (the heftier, the better!). Unfortunately, I often can't convince myself to ruin a good collectible coin just to have a doodad in my pocket!

I'd love to be a successful novelist. That is perfection for me!

Favorite: The client base is unusually friendly and generally tolerant, albeit not particularly receptive to art of the written variety.
Worst: The site is very visual-art oriented, and literature is usually a scoffed-at undertone in the community. It's more of a personal problem, though, since it is primarily an art gallery site...

4. Have any pets?
I've got two dogs and three cats! They're a handful.

5. How old are you?
I am 19!

6. Favorite TV show?
Not much of a TV show kind of person. If I had to make a call on a new show, though, I'd say Full Custom Garage. Otherwise, it's Firefly. Only series I've watched multiple times.

7. What's your favorite thing to draw or write about?
My headworld, Tior! I'm in love with action, adventure, and exploration, both of the world and the people.

8. What's your middle name?

9. Pet peeve?
People giving me dirty looks or ignoring me when I hold a door for them. I was raised to believe that you show gratitude, then offer the same kindness to others, regardless of who they are. It's rude otherwise!

10. What's your greatest accomplishment?
Ugh, that's a hard one... In the most abstract sense possible, keeping it together for as long as I have!

So, I got to thinkin'... One thing I've always had trouble with is naming characters. I usually avoid typical 'human' names, because I can't help but feel that they're generic, but I always end up finding it extremely difficult to make something from scratch that sounds decent. Most of my character names these days are based off of something that just pops into my head randomly that I remember to jot down. In the early days, I had turned to Native American names (i.e. Yiska and Yahto), but they never really felt right.

Anyway, what do you guys do for names? How do you name your characters, and do you have any names that you think are particularly interesting that you might want to donate to the cause for fun? I'm interested to hear about it!

Oh, hello! I'm Dailia.


2. Do you know why you were named that?

I really couldn't tell you why my parent's named me that. I like it though. It suits me, you know?


3. Single or taken?

It's complicated. Let's just say I've got my eyes on someone in particular


4. Have any abilities or powers?

Haha, powers? As in supernatural abilities? I wish I did. But seriously, I do have some talents. I'm very mechanically minded. I invent new toys and doodads. I'm also particularly good at working with very small pieces, though I'd chalk that up to Mahkur physiology rather than any special talent on my part.


5. Stop being a Mary Sue!

Wait, what's that supposed to mean? You're not trying to insult me are you? I might be smaller than you, but you know how nasty Mahkur can get... don't you?

6. What's your eye color?

My eyes are a golden brown color. I didn't know that for the longest time. Just before my mom died, she got her paws on a mirror and let me play with it a little. I mostly just looked at myself in it. I'd never seen myself so clearly before! Streams only reflect so well.

7. How about hair color?

My hair is the same color as my coat - a sort of intermediate brown. Not too dark, not too light. Perfect camouflage for the forest!

8. Have you any family members?

None living that I know of. Mom and Dad did their best to keep me in the dark about our family history back in the Deep Forests before they passed. That's probably for the best. Little good comes from that place.


9. Oh? How about pets?

Naw, no pets. The idea is nice, but I think it'd be too much of a hassle in practice.


10. That's cool, I guess. Now tell me something you don't like.

Oh, I hate when people antagonize Maltir for spending time with me. It's not so much of an issue with our neighbors as it is with folks coming to buy from our shop... that's a bit ironic when you think about it. I know that tons of people hate the Mahkur, and that it's not completely unfounded, but that's no reason to pick on Maltir. Personally, I enjoy his company.


11. Do you have any activities/hobbies that you like to do?

Ha! My hobby is my work! Nearly everything I do revolves around tinkering, inventing, and building new things. It's amazing how much room for improvement and development there is in everyday life. Simple new devices could make things so much easier. Imagine it: Warm baths, fresh water pumped directly to your home, heat from a single fireplace circulated throughout the home. But anyway, activities! I suppose I do like to get outside from time to time. People tend to think I'm a bit odd because I love to just run around any which way. Usually, I end up chasing Maltir. That big oaf isn't much of a challenge to catch. You know what, we should probably move to the next question before I talk you to death!


12. Have you ever hurt anyone in any way before?

Hmm... No, not that I remember. I mean, I punch and poke at Maltir a lot, but I sincerely doubt that it hurts him.


13. Ever… killed anyone before?

Oh, definitely not. And while I don't plan to, I will if I need to. It's just a fact of life. The world is a beautiful place, but there are dangers too. I'm just glad I'm not stuck back in the Deep Forests... That's a different story entirely.


14. What kind of animal are you?

I really hope that wasn't an attempt at a slur... Anyway, I've already told you that I'm a Mahkur. You know, short, thin, little pointy ears with a little pointy face? The usual stereotypes and all.


15. Name your worst habits.

My neighbors say I'm too direct and terse with people I don't know, and that it comes off as me being aggressive. I really just don't have the patience for useless banter. If you're going to say something say it!


16. Do you look up to anyone at all?

Well, my parents... Yeah, never mind. I guess Maltir is a sort of role model for me. He just seems so... unbreakable. Nothing sways him.


17. Are you gay, straight, or bisexual?

Huh? Wait, are you asking my sexual preferences? Well, I find men attractive. I guess there's that.


18. Do you go to school?

No, just the typical Sianese schooling: Learning from your parents, then by working odd jobs within your chosen path until you're an adult and can do your own thing.

19. Ever want to marry and have kids one day?

That would be... nice. Yes, I think I'd like that a lot.


20. Do you have fangirls/fanboys?

Do I have fans? Well, I don't know. Me and Maltir own one of the best known weapons and armor shops in the region, so I wouldn't be too terribly surprised if we did.


21. What are you most afraid of?

Two things really... First off, being somehow forced to live in the Deep Forests. There are so many horrible stories... My parents fled when I was very small, so I have no memory of it myself, but I always got the impression that they despised it. The second would be losing Maltir. I mean, not just him dying, but you know... Yeah, forget I said anything about that.


22. What do you usually wear?

Whatever is comfortable and durable! It's fun trying to have clothes made for me since my body type is so different from the Fahlir women around here. Usually typical Fahlir style works just fine. Although, I must admit that I like the S'ahl dresses... They're so light and floaty, and they're always so brightly colored, like a ray of warm sunshine that you can wear... I don't dress up often though. It's not practical.


23. What's one food that tempts you?

Oh, I love anything with lots of spices. Plain food is alright, but it really takes a good selection of spices to make a meal!


24. Am I annoying you?

Not particularly, no.

26. What class are you (low class, middle class, high class)?

Oh, I don't know really. I guess I live pretty well, especially compared to most Mahkur. It's not something I think about often.

I try to make friends with whoever happens to be around, really! I'm friendly with most of the town.

Meat pie? It's a convenient dish for travelers.


30. Favorite drink?

In all honesty, nothing beats fresh water straight from the springs. It's so cold and fresh... I know Maltir would vouch for that Marohl Liquor, but I don't like the stuff. I don't feel like I'm myself when I drink it, and that really bothers me. Something about not being in control of myself, I guess.


31. What's your favorite place?

Definitely my workshop! I call it the tinker room. I know it annoys some people, but I really don't care.

Ah...hehe. Well, yes. Maltir. Who else, right? I want to just tell him so badly... I've tried hinting, but he's just so clueless. I don't get it! It's so frustrating, you have no idea. You really, really don't.

1. What is your name?

Ah, looking for a story, eh? I'm happy to oblige! My name is Maltir.


2. Do you know why you were named that?

Ah, I'm not entirely certain actually. I'm sure the word holds some important meaning in the older dialects. Our parents rarely name us carelessly.


3. Single or taken?

You mean do I have a mate? I do not. Not yet, at least.


4. Have any abilities or powers?

Abilities or... powers? What do you mean by powers? Anyhow, I do have some particular talents! I enjoy things of a mechanical nature and have quite a knack for making such items! I'm also quite skilled at working a forge.


5. Stop being a Mary Sue!

What's a Mary Sue? Is that some manner of creature? You tone sounds derogatory though... I really don't appreciate that.

6. What's your eye color?

Well, my eyes are dark blue! Well, at least that's what Dailia tells me, and I trust her. Mahkur do see more color than Fahlir, anyhow.


7. How about hair color?

You... don't know much about Fahlir do you? We don't have "hair" on our heads like S'ahl do, and even then it's just their women. All we have is fur. As far as my fur, my base coloration is a light cream-white. The stripe on my nose here that runs over top of my head is a sort of baked muddy brown - I got that from my mother. She is a S'ahl. My father is Fahlir.


8. Have you any family members?

Well, of course. I have my parents and a sister, though I don't see them much.


9. Oh? How about pets?

Pets? No, I can't say that I do. I've never thought about having any, really.


10. That's cool, I guess. Now tell me something you don't like.

Oh, I absolutely despise when people are nasty to Dailia because she's a Mahkur. Just because the species has a horrible reputation doesn't mean that every Mahkur is evil. There are quite a few who live with the Fahlir and S'ahl all over Sian. I know Dailia very well. She's one of the best people I've ever met, and she's my best friend.


11. Do you have any activities/hobbies that you like to do?

Oh, well, like I said before, I love tinkering with things! I'm not as good as Dailia is with the small pieces, but I still like making things when I have the chance. I also love just exploring the woods. I've lived underneath these trees my entire life, and I'll never cease to be fascinated by them. Few things are more enjoyable than an afternoon nap in the mottled shade of the canopy.


12. Have you ever hurt anyone in any way before?

Well, I suppose I have by accident, yes. I managed to hurt some of my friends when I was little. We played pretty rough, so it always came back in some way!

I can safely say that I have not. I hunt of course, and the animals deserve respect, but they're not people. There's a difference between hunting and killing somebody. Of that, I can assure you.

What kind of animal am I? If you're inquiring as to my species, I'm a mix between S'ahl and Fahlir. Sand and snow... it's an interesting combination, isn't it?

Bad habits? Well, I do tend to become too preoccupied with my work. I'll often accidentally miss meals if I'm working with a good idea.


16. Do you look up to anyone at all?

Oh, Dailia is definitely my role model. That woman can work wonders.

What does any of that mean? Oh, do I like women? Yes, I most certainly do!

School? We don't have any large scale schooling anywhere in Sian to my knowledge. The idea was toyed with in the past, but experiments didn't work out particularly well. I'm mostly self taught.

Oh, absolutely! I'd love nothing more than to start a family!

Again with these strange words. Well, I know that people aren't generally overly fond of me. I'm quiet around strangers. That's not particularly conducive to making friends.

Dailia being hurt. Nothing scares me more.

Typical Fahlir garb, I guess. Simple cloth, leather, and fur. Warm and easy to maintain!

I love dried meat and berries. It's perfect for the winter because it lasts so long, and it's hard to get bored of the flavor if you change up which berries you use!

My favorite drink, as rarely as I get it, is Marohl liquor. I think anyone would agree on that point. It tastes fantastic, but it also makes you feel... warm inside. Not just your body, like normal alcohol, but your mind, too. It's very hard to describe. It just feels so good...

My home of course. I could easily live anywhere on Sian - well, except for the Deep Forests - but I'll always prefer the mountain forests!

Oh, ah... Well, I am quite fond of Dailia, but I'm certain she has absolutely no interest in me. She's probably looking for a fellow Mahkur.

Well, I generally don't care to swim much at all, but oceans frighten me a little. There's so much water. Some stories say that the oceans never end, just keep going on forever. Did you know that?

What do I look for in women? Well, I obviously look for someone who shares my interests... which is unfortunately rare. As far as species goes, I find all three attractive to some extent. The S'ahl are graceful and elegant, the Fahlir are strong well appointed, and the Mahkur are just so small and delicate looking... And Dailia... there's just something about how she moves.

I honestly have no idea.

If we want to get technical, I don't have one. For the purpose of expediency, you can call me Yiska.


2. Do you know why you were named that?

That name was given to me by... people. Don't ask.


3. Single or taken?

Single, I suppose.


4. Have any abilities or powers?

That's very forward of you. Care to tell me why you'd want to know that? No? I suppose you're harmless enough. Well, I have some talent in manipulating energy. Thermal energy is the easiest to mess with usually. There are other aspects too... other parts of myself. But you don't need to know about that. Don't ask again.

Excuse me? If you'd like to keep that disgusting tongue of yours in your head, I'd suggest you reign it in. You're lucky I agreed to this interview. The whole thing stinks of a setup.

No, not for a very long time.

You know, it just so happens that I don't much care for people who ask too many suspicious questions. Other than that, though, I'd have to say that people who try to control innocent folk really push my buttons.

You know what, Ill go ahead and answer these, but that tape isn't leaving this room. Mostly I just tinker with things. Usually weapons or armor. Ill also take any opportunity I can get to escape to the nearest mountain range, as far from people as possible. Sometimes I just need solitude.

Who hasn't? Besides, hurting people is an inevitable part of what I do. Corruption doesn't just pack its bags and leave when you ask nicely. Hurt people I didn't mean to? Well, yeah. I'm not gonna lie. I'm not proud of it, but we learn from our mistakes and grow.

I thought I made that pretty clear? Most times, I've got no choice in the matter. I try to avoid killing folks who don't deserve it though.

I won't name my species. They don't deserve the honor. Obviously we resemble anthropomorphic wolves though. Most aren't as big as I am, but we're usually larger in stature than humans.

Hell, I've got too many to list 'em all. If I absolutely had to name one, it'd be my rampant cynicism. It's hard for me to see good in a situation.

Well, I... Well, yeah, I guess there are a couple of people who I admire.

Straight I suppose. Never been attracted to another male.

Used to 'till the world up and died on me. After I left? No. I never stopped teaching myself though. A lot of the more advanced stuff comes from reverse engineering the tech I made off with. My species used to be pretty grand... 'used to be' being the operative term. Now they're just dead.

Of course I'd like to. It'll never happen though. To many people who want me gone and who'd just use a family as leverage. I can't put anyone in such danger.

I ain't afraid of much, but I don't like the idea of some of the things that I have to deal with using those I care for against me. I don't mean as hostages either... I shouldn't have said that. Don't ask.

Whatever I can find that fits me that's not some god-awful garish color. I prefer to wear blue jeans and some kind of short sleeved shirt. I'll almost always have my leather jacket with me unless I manage to get it damaged. Then I'll have to do without until I can fix it or replace it.

Meat... Seriously, it's not a joke. If you want to get my mouth watering, show me some meat. It doesn't even have to be cooked. Okay, get your mind out of the gutter and stop snickering. I'm running out of patience for this game.

I really don't care. Water is fine with me.

Mountains, bar none. I don't feel more at home anywhere else.

Probably. It's not something I think about often. I'm usually more concerned with something trying to kill me.

So, yeah, I'm on FurGather now. Seems neat enough, though it's certainly not perfect. We'll see how it plays out. Anyway, if you want to try it out for yourself and friend me, I'm Yiskawolf1006. Unfortunately, it seems I'm stuck with that as my public name. I figured I'd be able to set a name separate from my username, but it seems that's out of the bargain. At least it's better than straight up "sw1006". Haha!

Hey! I'm still not dead! I'm also working on a couple other projects in addition to Sand. Some experimental short stories should be a more encouraging and attainable than a full length novel at the moment, which will be nice.

Well, I've been exceedingly inactive on FA in the past couple of months, I suppose. I apologize for the lack of writing updates. I've been doing mostly conceptual work, and I'm hesitant to post conceptual bits about species up without polished art to go with it. Sand has seen some progress, but i'm going to take a shot at writing a short story before diving back into it headlong. A more immediately attainable goal will be good for my motivation. But, anyway, Q&A. I guess you guys can ask a question and I'll try to answer it!
