Philosophy
Posted 10 years agoI was always interested in philosophy growing up It gives good insight into how people of that particular region and era think and can lead to a better understanding of their culture. That being said, many of the philosophies out there are also worth a good parody.

Want your character in a published work?
Posted 10 years agoGet a cameo in Karma's "So Close...Yet So Far 3" here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/...../#cid:45161760
Your character will likely be fighting, so combat skills and/or super powers are welcomed. Nothing copyrighted (pokemon, ponies, etc) or overly powerful (Superman, god, demon prince...).
Seriously, check it out and note Karma if you have any questions.

What's your flavor?
Posted 10 years agoNo, not that. What flavor of music do you listen to in different situations?
tiptoe gave me this idea with his journal: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6564390/
What do you listen to while enjoying your hobby? Pick one hobby here.
I like gaming, and I love epic gaming music, but sometimes I'm in the mood for something else. This usually happens during action games, so I'll pop in songs like:
Bodies - Drowning Pool
or
Down With The Sickness - Disturbed
What do you listen to when you're exercising, whether that's weights, athletics, or getting your own cake instead of making Mom get it for you?
I like music with heavy beats and a good rhythm. Much to Tip's dismay I actually enjoy dance/techno/pop when I'm working out.
Bad Romance - Lady Gaga
or
Megalomaniac - KMFDM (Tip's okay with them)
What do you listen to when you want to unwind? No, not masturbate, just kick back and relax.
I like some oldschool music for this. The classics are full of relaxing music.
Fallen Angel - Poison
or
Silent Lucidity - Queensryche
Hope you all enjoyed listening!
BONUS! What's 1 song no one would expect you to like?
Rock The Boat - Aaliyeah

Last week for charity raffle!
Posted 11 years agoLast week for Tiptoe's model car charity raffle. http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6359401/
Get a ticket while you can. He doesn't normally take commissions so this may be your only chance, and you can help someone (me) out of a bind while you're at it. Last day you can get a ticket is this Saturday.
Thank you to everyone who has participated so far. You're making a huge difference.

Charity Raffle
Posted 11 years agoAs I explained earlier,
tiptoe is doing a charity raffle for a model car or truck.
Details are explained in his journal here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6359401/
Buy as many tickets as you like and win a finely crafted model of your dream car, or get a nostalgic rendition of that first vehicle you drove back in the day. You could even get it as a gift for your special someone.
And help out someone in need while you do it.

Medical Bills
Posted 11 years agoSo, my medical bill came in for my emergency room visit. Lets just say I was on that bus because I can't afford a car at the moment, and this is about the same cost.
So, I'm going to need help paying the hospital. My sweet and talented mate
tiptoe will be holding a raffle for a model automobile commission in an effort to help me out. He'll post a journal with details on that later and I'll post a link when he does.
If you're not interested in a custom model by an award-winning modeler, but you still want to help out, you can send donations to my paypal at syndeth@gmail.com. Every little bit will help, even a couple dollars.
Thank you all for your support. Stay fuzzy my friends.

MFF 2014 Con Report
Posted 11 years ago**DISCLAIMER**
If I don't mention a particular encounter with someone it isn't because I didn't find it enjoyable or important. I simply don't like writing every minute detail of my con.
**END DISCLAIMER**
tiptoe and I started our con Thursday night when we got off work. We ran by my place so I could change and grab my stuff then we drove straight to the hotel. We met up with our friend,
HollieHyena and went to registration where
maximus-ursus was working. After registering and getting our room keys we dropped off our things and went to dinner at The Ram with Hollie. Shortly after we got back, Tip and I called it a night as we were tired from work.
Friday morning we slept in a bit while
hallan got up early and got his day started. And surprise! We had acquired a floor guest overnight in
nachuro who'd had some problems with his room. Once we finally got out of bed we went to breakfast with a bunch of people. When we got back to the room we helped Max get suited up so he could have a little fun before he had to work again (He volunteers every year, and every year he says he isn't doing it again, but he does XD ). The Den and Alley opened at one, so after a little snuggling, Tip and I went down and got our commissions in early. With business out of the way it was time for Tip to get some suiting in so I was his handler as usual (not that he really needs one) and we got to enoy the usual flood of people recognizing his adorable face. We also saw Uncle Kage's story hour and 2's rant, both of which were very good. After all that we went to dinner just the two of us as everyone else was unavailable in one manner or another. Came back, went to bed (love snuggling my big rat) and on to the next day.
Saturday was another group breakfast buffet downstairs and bunch more suiting, hanging out with people around the con. The fursuit parade was early afternoon, but they were full to capacity with suiters so it took way longer than they expected. Later we went to dinner at The Ram with
tibortiger and hit up the Charity Show with Uncle Kage and 2 Griffin. As we were leaving the show the hotel alarm went off and we were all rushed outside. They told us it was so sort of chemical/gas leak and kept telling us to move further away from the building. As most of you know it turned out to be a bottle of chlorine powder high up in the hotel. It had a limited range, enough so that we could have probably all stayed in the lobby safely but the authorities weren't taking any chances. Since it was freezing outside and people had been waiting for an hour with little protection they decided to move us into the next door convention center where apparently a dog show was being set up. They didn't end up letting us go back to the hotel until around 4:30 in the morning. Everyone with sense went to bed immediately after and slept in at least a little. Lots of early panels were moved or cancelled on Sunday because of this.
Sunday was the last day at the con for Tip and I. We went back around and hung out with people and tried to track down a few we hadn't seen much of. In the evening we went to TGI Friday's with a bunch of friends and had a very fun supportive waiter. We left from the restaurant and hurried home, though construction slowed us down quite a bit.
All in all a very fun con. Went a little differently than expected but that's okay.

I'm alive
Posted 11 years agoHello all. I just got home and I'm feeling better. My face is a bit swollen where it collided with something very hard and I'm still a bit sick from whatever put me in the stupor that let me get hospitalized, but I should be fully recovered soon enough. The doctors want me to get my brain checked to make sure it wasn't a sign of epilepsy. I think I was just delirious from too much caffeine, too little water and sleep and being more ill than I thought I was. I still don't know why I had all the bruises around my head. It certainly feels like I got tuned up by someone, but it could just as easily have been from flopping around unconscious on a bus.
Some nice Transit Authority person noticed my predicament and got me to call for help. Even in the state I was in I managed to call my hero
tiptoe to come to my rescue. Tip retrieved me from the random street corner I'd gotten myself to, took me home to collect some things then took me to the hospital I say this like it was easy, but you have to understand that when I have no filter on my mouth I am a belligerent asshole and from the state I was in and what little I was told of what I said the filter was well and truly gone. Tip suffered through this while not feeling well himself to get me help and then stayed by my side for hours while I was carted around the ER. Then he took me home and made sure I recuperated.
Thank you all for your well wishes, and thank you Tip for being my hero. I love you big ratty. =^.^=

More fun weekends
Posted 11 years agoSo two weekends ago I got roped into going to my friend's, brother's bachelor party because he needed more people. Sounds terrible, right? Normally yes, but this was no ordinary bachelor party, this was a gas-powered go-kart bachelor race-off! :-D
So Max, Tip, and I head to the Sugar River Raceway with a bunch of people we vaguely know of, climb in some go-karts and race our tails off! Max, bless his big bear heart, isn't a racer by any means so while he did his best he only managed not to be last. For myself, I came in right in the middle of the pack of nine. Appropriate since there were four people there that had racing backgrounds and I was relying on reflexes and a little crash course on racing from Tip. That leaves everyone's favorite racer rat. Coming in at around 60 pounds heavier that the competition, which is a HUGE deal in a vehicle as low powered as a go-kart, Tip STILL managed to pull first place and come home with a gold medal. I'm so proud of my rat. *dances*
Then this past weekend we were going to do prep for our next race in October, but the rest of the team had to bail on the race for various irl reasons so we were left with our plans up in the air. Tip decided that since it was a nice day he'd take me out cruising his old stomping grounds in his bitchin' Monte Carlo. We visited a bunch of places that used to have really cool stores that've almost all closed and remained empty or been replaced by a load of crap. It was fun listening to his stories and imagining him tromping around. One that was still open was an automotive museum that used to be the Kissel Museum. Thanks to Tip's connections we got hooked up with free entry and he took me around and told me the stories about all the old cars and the companies and how they evolved into what we have now. It was really cool. They even had a really nice DeLorean there, which is one of my favorites. We were having such a good time we decided to treat ourselves to a build-your-own ice cream parlor before we headed back.
I'm looking forward to our adventures next weekend.

Doing Time in Joliet
Posted 11 years agoNo, I'm not in jail, that's the name of the Lemons race I was at with
tiptoe this last weekend. It happens to take place in a town that's known for its prison.
Anyways, we did a lot of work to prepare. I spent about 26 hours working on Tip's racecar between weekends beforehand and on tech day, and helped the team get through inspection and ready to race. We had a few problems at the beginning, starting with a bad transmission mount, then a backfire that caught our air filter on fire. Once we got started we realized we were running a bit hot so we had to run and get a sprayer to water cool critical components on our pit stops. After that everything ran fairly smooth for a Lemons race. A little dodging and bumping, but nothing serious. With the faster teams in our category dropping out with problems we thought we had a chance at winning if we could outlast them, but alas it was not meant to be. Once the sun started going down we turned on the headlights and... the water temp gauge started inching up. Suffice to say, headlights should not cause that problem so after pulling off a couple times trying to solve it we packed it in early to avoid causing engine damage.
My theory was a short in the headlight circuit causing something else problems. We'll have to test and see if the engine was actually overheating or if it was just interfering with the gauges. As we are we should be fine for our next race in October since it'll be cooler and day racing only, but definitely something we want to look in to.
Despite leaving early it was a great time. I got to hang out with the team and we had some delicious buffalo burgers with aged cheddar for lunch on Saturday. One of the team members even sneaked a driver patch into my jacket which was really nice. All in all a good weekend and I look forward to the next race.

Busy summer!
Posted 11 years agoSo much has been going on. In the past few weeks I've gotten to work on a race car, go canoeing, watch a cool race called the June Sprints at Road America and all this with my very special ratty.
I've also been advancing in ESO with Max. I'm close to level 30 and really getting the hang of HoT healing. Been playing a few of my single player games like Fallout New Vegas and Skyrim also. All this no thanks to my hard drive failing on me. Managed to retrieve most of my data, but I had to start my single player games over again.
Also, still no car. It looks like I need to improve my work situation so I can get a lease. That's the only way I'm going to get a decent vehicle. Well, my boss has been talking about getting me into a new position and how they don't want to lose me (they know I've been looking). Also, well I've been looking so either way I should hopefully find something soon.
I do have a new comic in the works with Nexus, so keep an eye out, it'll be a doozy.
Other than that, I hope everyone's had a great summer so far and those of you who made it to AC I hope it was a blast!
Any questions, feel free to post below.

To love a rat
Posted 11 years agoYes, it's true. I've been in love with someone for a while now. Some of you knew, some didn't. Some of you I had to disappoint without a full explanation, and I'm sorry. We were keeping things under the radar as best we could, but we were only willing/able to hide so much and people started noticing and asking questions.
Last night
tiptoe posted a journal letting everyone know we were in love, and I thought it best I post one for those few of my fans that may not have read his journal. You can read what he wrote here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/5820010/
I've never been happier than I am with Tiptoe. I love the big rat with all my heart. Like him, I had given up hope. I was looking for friends to while away my time with and I had begun to lose myself in the fantasy world of books and video games to keep my mind from having to deal with the real world. Then one day I saw this rat in Soaktown, the fictional world
nexus' comics take place in. He stood out; he seemed different than everyone else so I decided to message him to see if we could strike up a friendship. We started chatting more and more and finally I decided to risk it and invite him to an auto show.
What can I say? I was hooked. I had so much fun I couldn't get enough, so we arranged to meet again and again until we realized we'd fallen for each other. I can't say what the future will hold, but I hope I get to face the rest of mine alongside him.

IML... furcon?
Posted 11 years agoWent to IML this past weekend with
tiptoe and
maximus-ursus and had a blast! There were so many furries there it seemed more like a furcon than a leather convention. XD
Didn't get to stay long since we had a memorial day party to get to so I'd like to go back some time with more spending money and more time to catch the shows and such. I did pick up a new ring and adew rag in my favorite color. I might show off later.
So all in all I was happy to see all the fuzzbutts and watch
tiptoe get hit on and molested as he should be.

Posted 11 years agoSaw Captain America tonight with
tiptoe,
maximus-ursus and my friend Rich. It was pretty freaking badass. Story and teary moments and happy moments and explosions and people getting hit in the face with a vibranium shield... yeah, I like that last part. >
Oh, and the Defenders of the Galaxy preview. OMG, Rocket is so adorable! That movie's on my must see list for sure.

Elder Scrolls Online
Posted 11 years agoYeah, I'm playing it. I'm in the Ebonheart Pact. If you're playing send me a note and maybe we can quest together. Character name is Synzin, of course.
Eww, rats!
Posted 12 years agoI get that a lot, most rats and mice do, as well as some of the other less popular species.
Some people just ask "Why did/would you choose a rat?"
Well, the answer is complicated. I wanted one fursona that represented me. Some people pick lots of characters that all represent some small part of them, or a whimsical fantasy. That's fine, if that's how you want to participate in the fandom, but its more personal for me. Synzin the rat? That's me, not some character. I may add a little for stories and comics, but underneath it all its me.
So how did I come to choose rat? Lists, meditation and time. I didn't start out with rat, like
tiptoe did. I did what a lot of others do and make characters based on the "cool" animals. I very quickly realized those weren't me just masks I was hiding behind. So I came up with some steps and followed them to conclusion. This took me quite a while and I'm glad I did it:
Step 1) Write out all my traits
A) Behaviors
B) Likes/Dislikes
C) Physical Traits
Step 2) Write out a general list of animals like cats, dogs, rodents, ungulates, etc. and put some of their basic traits.
Step 3) Compare those traits to mine and select the 2 that match the most.
Step 4) Write out a list of all the major individual species and look them up, comparing all of their scientifically researched traits (Yay, Google!) with my own.
When it came down to it I had the most in common with rats. I'm not going to give you a list of what I compared, as that is very personal, but lets just say I was shocked myself. I never expected rat to be the result, but as I started developing a rat fursona, selecting body type, fur patterns and all that I came to realize it really was me. Its that same feeling when you come home. The same sense of belonging.
Hope this answers some people's questions.
This took me quite a while and I'm glad I did it:Step 1) Write out all my traits
A) Behaviors
B) Likes/Dislikes
C) Physical Traits

Posted 12 years agoSyn-zin, origins and meanings
Posted 12 years agoI get a lot of people asking me why I'd name myself Syn. For the most part their brains automatically link Syn to sin even if they know the spelling. I know a large number of people throw syn into their name as a "clever" way of saying their character is sinful.
Firstly, let me explain how my name came to be. It was a gamertag back in the days of Quake; well the Syn part anyways. That's right, I'm oldschool. My gamertag had been Syndeth which was more of a title than anything. I had used other gamertags before, but people kept saying finding me in a dark alley was like finding death. I was one of those guys that would sprint straight for the strongest or second strongest weapon I knew of on the level, grab up all the ammo I could then creep through the darkest corridors I knew of sniping people. After a while of getting told that I was like death I changed my tag to Syndeth,
This leads me to the meaning of the name. Syn is a prefix, it means "same as" or "like". I had been top of my class in latin prefixes and suffixes and I loved using them to make new words. Deth was a purposeful misspelling of "death" that I took from a favorite band of mine, Megadeth. So, it was Syndeth, "One who is like death."
Well, when it came time to select a furname I went through a lot of different names that I tried out but didn't like, and several online people had been calling me Syn already. I didn't feel Syndeth was appropriate for a permanent name, but I did like the nickname Syn, so I went through a bunch of tryouts and finally settled on Synzin, my current name.
Hope this explains a few things to folks. Time to run off to work!

MFF moving and Thanksgiving all in one week!
Posted 12 years agoFirst I'd like to say I had a BLAST at MFF this year. Thank you all for making my time there so enjoyable. I met so many fun people, some of whom I'd been hearing about for months from
tiptoe and
maximus-ursus. It was great to finally put faces to the names.
Alas, of my friends from Arizona I only got to see Kamo and that was briefly while he was suiting in his adorable rotty suit. It was good to see him again though and hopefully next year they'll all make an appearance.
As for the con itself, I got to room with Tip and Max and a new fur I met named Soulwolf. He was quiet and tidy so it worked out well. I didn't do any gaming or see any panels or even buy any art this year, which is really unusual for me, but I was just way to busy meeting people and handling Tip and Max while they suited. If you want to hear about our crazy adventures go read their con journals.
Of course, I didn't want to come back but life in the mundane world must continue. I came back to having to start my move into my new place. That's right, I'm no longer living with Max. I loved living with the big blue bear, but he needed to move in with his mom to save money for a house. Got my own place now, lots of space but no furniture for most of it yet. I'll have to do some bargain shopping soon, heh.
That leads me to Wednesday the 24th. What's so special about the day before Thanksgiving? Well, it was going to simply be moving and getting something to bake for Thanksgiving dinner, but life has a way of adding some spice. In this instance it was some nasty spice that I'd hoped not to have to taste again.
My car got totalled. Yup, got t-boned by a guy running a stop sign. Hit-and-run and I only had liability insurance. So... I have no car now. It took me 4 years to get back into a position where I could buy a car after my last one got totalled while sitting at a stop light... and 2 months later some douchebag totals it. I don't even know what to say. I hope the guy gets what's coming to him, because he set me way back. I try to keep things in perspective, I really do, but every time I start to get ahead in life something like this happens. My car gets totalled, or I lose my job for something crazy stupid like taking a scheduled vacation or some other kind of BS. I've bounced back the last dozen times, but it keeps getting harder. I don't know how much bounce I have left in me. I know its been showing since then, and I'm sure I've been terrible company for my friends and I apologise to them for that.
*sigh*
Well, I guess on to Thanksgiving. My family is all on the opposite corner of the country from me so Max invited me to his family dinner. They're all great people and have been trying to cheer me up, and I very much appreciate it. It was good company, good food and good wine... lots of good wine.
Tip and Max helped me get all my stuff moved to my new place and now its time to start a new work week via public transportation. What was going to be a 20 minute commute into work will now be closer to an hour long bus ride. I'm very glad I bought a new bottle of pain killers. I'm going to need it.
Thank you all for the good times. I'll catch up with you all again soon.

Events and things
Posted 12 years agoSo recently I went to
tiptoe's Halloween party. It was freakin' awesome! Got to hang out with some really fun people, play Cards Against Humanity and eat lots of really good food. I dressed as a ninja but there were some much better costumes there. Wore the ninja costume to work on Halloween also, my coworkers loved it and wanted me to bring it back for pictures XD
The next day we handed out Halloween candy and Tip dressed me up as a Lab Rat with his spare head (which was a black Halloween rat mask) and a lab coat. It was great fun and I was reminded how much I want to get my fursuit going.
Then last weekend I went to Road America to watch Tip's Team Sucker Punch do the LeMans race. It was epic! They did amazing and barely lost to another team. Fortunately they were friends of ours so it was all good fun. See Tip's journals for more information on the race if you're interested.
I will be at MFF this year, rooming with
maximus-ursus and
tiptoe. I'm expecting to have a great time and hope to get to see a lot of people there. If anyone wants to meet me there please note me and I'll try to arrange a time.
Oh, and I'm a year older today.
