Website!
Posted 9 years agoHey all,
If you wanna purchase anything from me, ya gotta go to my website to see what's available! I'm not doing too many custom commissions any more on account of lack of time, but I may be convinced to do some paintjobs on things!
Webstore is here! http://store.themadmasker.com

I think I'm back?
Posted 10 years agoIt's quite literally been a year since I posted a journal. I've occasionally posted images on here in between, but I think I'm going to be a bit more active.
I didn't really mean to leave, I just got really busy with work and projects! Hope everyone's doing well!

Busy and Watch me!
Posted 12 years agoYep, I'm pretty quiet here! Been working a lot on commissions and working at Masters FX off and on! I just got to do make up (my 3rd time professionally) on a small budget movie! It was a lot of fun and was hilarious working with Andrew Keegan (from 10 Things I Hate About You), such a good sport with all the prosthetics we put on him! He even wanted to keep them on and went and bought his iphone 5 with them all on!
I'm working on asari and a couple of commissions I need done before January. Another low budget movie next month and then hopefully back in Masters FX for True Blood again! Wheeeeee!
Hope all is well for everyone, if you want to see more of me, ya gotta go to my facebook page! http://facebook.com/themadmasker

Commissions
Posted 13 years agoI do a lot more posting on my facebook page here: http://facebook.com/themadmasker as it's SO much easier to post on there... If you want more readily released material, please check there!
I'm generally very busy with work and with commissions. So for anyone contacting me, here's some basic basic rules I have.
1. Please direct your inquiries to my email account as it helps me keep things in check properly!
If I don't get directly back to you, don't think I am ignoring you. I really am quite busy and will get back to you at my earliest possibility.
2. I am always open for commissions, but can be a bit selective due to time.
3. I have no set prices. I have a basic range that I keep quotes in, but as they are all based on what the project is, they fluctuate.
And probably the most important:
4. I do not work for free and I will not work for scraps. If you can get something cheaper from someone else, I suggest you go ahead and do that. That's not me being snooty, that is you undervaluing myself, my work and others that do similar work.
That said, I know that I am not cheap and I offer payment plans after the initial deposit is paid to me. I allow people to take their time, but I will not send the final work until it is paid for in full. ;)
I hope these rules don't make me sound horrible. But that's how I work and will continue to do so. ;)

Updated Commission info and FAQ
Posted 14 years agoI've been getting a lot of response from masks and sculpture pieces I post. So here's some info on them. If you have further questions, please send me a note here or via themadmasker[at]gmail.com
In an effort to speed up the process, please send me reference pictures to what you would like when you send your initial message or email.. A description is FINE but if you have a real animal that you would like your mask based on, PLEASE send me that. It helps me get what you want together easier.
1. I usually only do masks, I do not make arms, feet or tails. If my seamstress is available, I can arrange something and it is up to her the cost of her time and materials for it. Prices vary.
2. I do not do full suits.
3. Most of my masks are use you own eyes but vision is usually limited despite that. Because of this, I require the commissioner to fill out a release of liability form.

Posted 14 years agoJust finished up a project with League of STEAM http://leagueofsteam.com that I think you guys will enjoy... but I can't release it yet due to non-disclosure agreements. Hopefully by next week after it's been seen in public, lol.
Now I'm back to working on a mask project, trying to fix Baxil's mask from shipping (stupid USPS assholes) and I have 6 masks to do for Labyrinth Ball this year. They are replicas of the masks worn in the ballroom scene of the movie Labyrinth :) I'm very excited to do them, but have such a limited time now!
And I need to get working on Rana's headpiece for her Samara costume (needs to be done for Comic Con). If you don't remember, Rana is actually the face of Samara from Mass Effect 2, so we're turning her into Samara :) http://www.facebook.com/SamaraME2
And then after that I'll be getting started on
malkyru's mask! First big furring project for me!
Then after that I get to try and do something for myself... Like restart the Haze project entirely from scratch so I will be happy with it and dedicate it to my grandpa who died before it's completion.

Update
Posted 14 years agoFirst, an update on RJ:
***RJ is back home and doing well. His brain fluid is now on route to his stomach via a tube they inserted under his skin. He has high blood pressure and is getting that under control as well as his kidney still being angry with him for some reason. They are looking into why. He still needs financial help and is sooooo very appreciative for those that gave! It's such a help, it's just that the bills are ridiculous! Go to http://paparaja.com to see updates on him and to donate***
And my own update:
BUSY AS ALL HELL is the short version. Sorry for lack of updates/being around too much!
Working on a mask, fixing Baxil's mask due to a crack in one of the fins(stupid USPS shipping) and gearing up for Monsterpalooza in April. As well as started my new job yesterday. Luckily it's part time and I will have time to keep working on all my projects.
I am also going to be starting a commission with a friend of mine for a Samara outfit because she's the face model for the character. See here: http://www.facebook.com/SamaraME2 Working alongside Holly Conrad and Crabcat Industries of their Mass Effect 2 costumes of fame. :)
And trying to finish Haze for Labyrinth Ball/Comic Con... not sure if I will be able to because there is a lot of technical aspects that blow my mind. But I did get to talk to a guy in the industry who did the stilts for Underworld and now I have a SUPER GOOD way to make the digi legs for her... which I am so excited about!
Anyways, Just wanted to update!

New vid and FC
Posted 15 years agoWell, i posted my how-to video for face casting. It's how I fit my masks, I learned it from MissMonster a few years back of how to get them to fit you perfectly. Use your OWN FACE! A concept!
Please see the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BEit8SvU7I More videos will be posted there too as I get them finished or receive them as that is The Mad Masker's youtube spot!
Also, you can now follow The Mad Masker on twitter too: http://twitter.com/#!/TheMadMasker I caved and went ahead and got one for her XD
Baxil is completed and has been shipped to him! For those going to FC, you'll see him round, I believe. I will not be able to attend again this year, but hopefully the next year there won't be anything to do. This weekend the League of STEAM http://leagueofsteam.com is going to Tucson, AZ to check out the venue for Wild Wild West Con and make sure we have space to do all our schtick and craziness! Please come if you can, March 4th-6th. http://wildwildwestcon.com/ And if you're a SoCal resident, the League is looking into chartering a bus to drive out there! See info at the League's facebook page http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-L.....M/140243756952

Venture Bros Hilarity
Posted 15 years agoI think this is completely and utterly hilarious and I'm not sorry about it. If you're offended... then be mad at me. I know I'm horrible...
This is how the conversation starts, for those who don't watch/haven't see this episode--
Henchman 21: Do we have souls?
Henchman 24: Yes, but they're not quite souls, but in Earth's general idea, everything has a soul.
Henchman 21: Crap, so I guess we should become vegetarian.
Henchman 24: No, like everything living has a soul, even spinach. You can't win.
Henchman 21: So that's a problem.
And this is what I think is hilarious--
Henchman 24: Here's something. You know how people cry about aborting babies because of their soul? Turns out you don't get a soul until you're like one.
Henchman 21: So, weird, one. Really?
Henchman 24: Or maybe six months. I forget. Either way, you're just this little crying, pooing monster blob until you get your soul.
HAHAHAHAHAHA

Dear Haunt Gods
Posted 15 years agoHello, how are you doing? It's your month, dear gods, your time to shine and let loose your minions to wreck havoc and fear and scaring into the hearts of people everywhere.
I had a concern and a favor to ask of you, if I may be so bold as to ask ones so wise as you for it.
Last night, I was punched unexpectedly but some machismo seeking jerkface in the back for a reason I cannot discern. For one, I hadn't scared them. So I'm unsure why I was hit. Though I am sure that it was a hit and not the person falling into me as I was wearing my camel back and it hurt through that. I ask that they may incur your wrath and suffer some awful things in their remaining years. The favor I ask of is that the monsters of the maze I am in, and myself, might receive protection from you for the remainder of Haunt. I understand this is a tall order, as there are PLENTY of assholes to go around millions over for each of us.
As well as asking, I would like to thank you for allowing me the honor of scaring the pants off of Neil Patrick Harris and his friends (possibly his bf?) the other night. It was very awesome and kind of you to send that my way and not have it happen whilst I was on break.
Another awesome time to be had was when that teenager with the bleached and brown hair who came around the barrel I was hiding behind and had her fingers pointed at me like a gun. She went to shoot, but I pointed back at her right when the water effect went off right behind her. The look on her face was priceless and it was one of the best things I've seen in a while. Thank you for that, I greatly enjoyed it.
That is all for now, Haunt gods, may your month long extravaganza go well and bring power that will last the rest of the year until your time comes again! All hail the Haunt gods!
Sincerely,
Aubriana
