Stream commissions on HIATUS + Price update
Posted 8 years agoDue to time constraint, There will not be any stream commission for the upcoming 3-4 weeks at least. Rest assured stream commissions aren't gone and will come back, hopefully in January if everything goes as planned.
I also want to mention that the prices for the commissions will go from 37.5$/90mins to 50$/90mins when they come back ( just a heads up if you want to plan ahead for next time).
Thanks for taking the time to read!

BEFORE YOU CLAIM A SLOT :
-There are certain themes I will not draw/animate such as Vore, Gore, Cub, Feral, Rape, Scat/watersports... If you have doubts about what you plan to commission being in the realm of what I'm ok with or not, feel free to ask in the comments of this journal.
-It is better for me if you can be there for the stream so that you can give feedback as the commission is being made.
-Payment is made upfront via Paypal through an invoice.
-Remember you are paying for 90 minutes of my time to work on a piece of your choice, meaning you might not get a finished piece if you ask for something too complex. here are a few guidelines to get a more polished/finished commission with the limited timeframe :
-If I happen to accept a commission and I realize while doing it that it is more than I could chew, you will be refunded entirely. I take the responsibility if I make the mistake of accepting a task that is beyond the limits of my skills.
-Slots are claimed in the comment of this journal. Comment MUST include a brief description of your commission idea and some decent refs of the character(s) you'd want me to draw/animate. You will be able to provide more info during the stream if you get the slot, but I just need a general idea of what you're looking for to see if it's within my abilities and the themes I'm comfortable with.

Opening Stream Commissions! [all slots taken]
Posted 8 years agoHello all, as I annonced a while ago, I said I thought about starting to take 90 mins stream animated commissions. Now that I'm finally done with my last job and am available, I have the opportunity to try this out, so let's not waste time. I'm taking a total of 3 slots of 90 mins for today at 37.5$ each ( I set the price rather low for now since it's the first time I do this in a while, expect it to rise if these streams become a regular thing).
So here's the deal : for 37.5$ you get me to work for 90 mins on stream on a sketch / series of sketches / animation of your choice.

Would you be interested if I opened stream commissions?
Posted 8 years agoI've been thinking about this for a while, and I wanted to know if there was some kind of demand for something like that. I was thinking stream commissions, a bit like what
fuzzamorous does except with 90mins blocks instead of 60 (haven't decided on a price yet but I have some rough ideas). the 90 mins would be there to allow time for quick animated commissions. I tried to do something like this about 2 years ago but with 1 hour slots and it was too tight of a timeframe to comfortably produce any kind of animation. So yeah, just wanted to know if some of you peeps who still follow this very inactive account would be interested in such things?
Also, just for reference, here are a few exemples of animations done within 90 mins, specifically made back then as "tests" to see if I could keep up with the time limit:

fuzzamorous does except with 90mins blocks instead of 60 (haven't decided on a price yet but I have some rough ideas). the 90 mins would be there to allow time for quick animated commissions.

UPDATE from my previous journal.
Posted 8 years agoIf you haven't read my last journal, here's the TL;DR version:
''Making tv animation is tiring and unfulfilling, something something, whining about the nature of the industry, fuck this, I'll try to get a better job in animation.''
First, I have officially annonced my departure from the studio i'm currently working at, and only have one week left to endure. This alone has made my job significantly less of chore as I don't feel the pressure of the deadline and just work on my quotas at my own pace, trying to do a decent job.
Second, litterally the day after I took the decision to leave, I received a phone call from a contact I've had for a while to offer me a job as a head of animation/rigger in a small team ( 3 - 5 people) for a new studio in a city that I enjoy a lot more than the one I'm currently at. It will still be for TV animation, but this time for advertisings, which, while more demanding in terms of quality than cartoons, tend to be produced over a couple month at most and thus are a lot less tiring. I took the offer of course. While it's not the perfect creative job I'm aiming for in the long run, it's still a pretty damn good and rare opportunity. Besides it's only for a few month, so even if that experience doesn't turn out great, at least I won't have to stick to it for more than half a year ( and it will look good on my CV ).
Anyways, I also wanted to thank everyone who commented on the previous journal for their moral support, it was really uplifting and kind of helped me build up the courage to say ''I quit'' to my bosses, you guys are the best! And for those who will soon, or want to enter the industry and might have been turned off by what I said : TV animation is still a good entry point in my opinion. Getting a foot in the door and making some contacts is a major first step in the small world of animation, and as shown above, can then lead to more intersting work sooner or later.
Hope you found all that at least informative, have a nice day/evening!

One year later in the cartoon industry
Posted 8 years agoSo,
I very recently passed the one year milestone as an animator in the TV cartoon industry, and after that time I came to the conclusion that it's not for me. Understand that I'm not talking about animation in general, I'm still very passionate about it and still have several long term personal projects that I want to see finished. I'm referring specifically to the job of an animator in western cartoons ( aka kids cartoons since its 90% of the tv animation production here in France ).
While its definitely not the worst job in the world and even far from the worst in the industry, it has been having a seriously bad impact on my motivation. The main problem with this part of the industry, to me, is the idea that you're not working on a creative project, but a damn PRODUCT, and thus it comes with ONE major downside: productivity.
Basically animators are expected to put out about 8 to 12 seconds of animation by the end of each day. You could argue that since the animation is in the form of puppet animation ( commonly referred to as flash animatio or cut-out animation) it should be easier for the animator to reach this goal by the end of the day, which is true. The real problems however are that, first, when you put out as much animation on a daily basis, it can't be good animation. its just the minimum viable quality, just to be able to churn out several hours of content within a year and as such you just can't be proud of what you produce as an animator, and thats why you'll never see any of the professional work i've done in the last year into my animation reel.
Second while puppet animation allows to do away with sketching, cleaning up and colouring characters, it doesn't remove the real challenge of animation : ANIMATING! Because the theory is still the same, whether you're in 2d, 3d, stop motion or whatever other technique. And animation is almost always an intricate puzzle to figure out, even after years of practice, just to make something look decent, and when you're given up to 12 seconds to animate within a day, it gets mentally exhausting after barely a couple weeks or month in a production.
Lastly, due to the nature of cheap tv animation, the production always suffers from rushed planning and pre production (and I have confirmation from peers in other studios that its the same everywhere) and thus, animators get to enjoy having to fix most of the issues that were not thought out in earlier stages of production ( or even worse, issues deliberetely ignored knowing it would be fixed by the animators ). Although on that last point, animators share the bad end of the stick with post production team.
Sorry for all that spoiled millenial venting garbage but I really needed to get this out of my chest. My motivation has been at an all time low this past year and I need to fix that. I think I'll try to approach another angle of the industry, ideally a bit more oriented developpement or pre production like storyboards, designs or even visual dev, who knows... I'll make an update if I ever do so.
Ps : I havent forgotten about those toonboom tuts I promised, I swear ;>

Would you guys be interested in Toonboom tutorials/guides?
Posted 9 years agoHey, so, I'm considering making some guides for Toonboom Harmony, from basic stuff to more advanced/professional level concepts, and I was wondering if there were actually any demand for that. I'm assuming I would do that in 10-15 mins video format on my completely inactive YT channel. I realise that most of the followers i have are here for the porn stuff I occasionally make, but I also know a few of you are interested in animation and the making of it. I also know that Toonboom Harmony (especially premium, the version I use) is a very expensive software, that not many people can afford and in addition to that is pretty difficult to crack. At least there's always the 20 days trial though...
So tell me, would you be interested in such a thing? What format do you visualise for the guide?
