Today is my birthday, and I'm now well into my thirties! It's weird to look back on my old birthday journals from when I was like 25/26 and being scared of 30, whereas now I'm rapidly approaching 40 XD

First off, Happy New Year to all my watchers! I hope you all had enjoyable Christmasses.

A few things about me, I'm now officially in my thirties which happened back in October. Scary times, a whole new decade! I'm not sure how I managed to not do a "Level 30 reached!" journal at the time, but ah well!

Secondly, my fursona has gone through some kind of transformation process and has gone from being a cheetah to a cougar/puma/mountain lion (use whichever term you prefer). After much deliberation I decided that a cougar suits me more in terms of real-life build and my preference for colder climates. I have already commissioned some art of my new-found cougary self, so keep an eye on my gallery!

Thirdly, I'm going to start taking German classes. I studied German for two years in high school (my primary language was Spanish which I studied for seven years). Main reasons being that there are quite a few furs in German speaking countries that I'm interested in getting to know much better (read into that however you will), and also with EF being almost a certainty for me every year, it would help me to know at least SOME German beyond "Hallo, wie gehts?" and "Ein Bier, bitte". So that's a thing that'll be happening soon.

I think that's all I have to say for now; my two planned conventions this year are EAST and EF which are both in Germany. I may do MFF if I can get it to work out for me, but it isn't looking likely at the moment.

Yep, it's that time of year again where I level up! This year, my birthday happened to coincide with the Leeds furmeet which I attend, which made for lots of fun and sometimes embarrassing moments!

Huge thanks to arcais for the pressie, cake, and getting the entire bar to sing happy birthday to a cheetah grinning sheepishly in the corner! It was awesome <3

Needless to say, I drank rather a lot. This is despite the bar not having two of the drinks I originally asked for despite them being in the menu, but lupestripe and skawinski kept on providing me with booze that was available, so yay! :D

But yep, another year older, and 30 is looking worryingly close now! Eeep!

So this has been going around for a day or two, so I figured I'd jump on the bandwagon. It's pretty straightforward, just post twenty facts about yourself, so here are mine:


1. I am a bipolar sufferer, as a result I am often prone to bouts of anger/depression which often put people off me.

2. I used to study piano, and passed Grade 1 with distinction in 2000. I quit learning shortly after, however.

3. I had to deal with the suicide of my then boyfriend at the age of 18, and have had trouble trusting people pursuing me for dating purposes ever since.

4. I have never owned nor even tried on a fursuit, I have only ever tried on a couple of heads.

5. I have never been penetrated, my only sexual encounters have been either mutual pawing or receiving oral. The idea of sex terrifies me.

6. Despite my number of kinks and my openness to talk about them, I have actually experienced very few of them in real life.

7. I came out to my parents as both gay and atheist when I was 19; they were more disappointed that I was atheist.

8. I have had my driving licence for 8 years and 2 months, I passed my test first time when I was 17.

9. Despite many people thinking I’m Finnish (due to my usernames), I am actually British and just have an obsession with Finland.

10. I have a terrible intolerance to hot weather, I have always preferred colder climates.

11. I have had psoriasis on both my knees for as long as I can remember, nothing will shift it.

The House of Commons has passed a bill with a vote of 400 for to 175 against the legalisation of gay marriage. A majority "for" vote of 225! This is fantastic news, and one of those very rare occasions where I feel proud to be British.

Yep, I've hit my quarter-century! Scary D:

EF is over, a great time was had and it was most certainly a much needed break. A few days have now passed since the convention and now I'm noticing a trend amongst FA shouts and general messages in particular between people who met each other there. This trend being that the people who received the most comments were/are fursuiters.

Now before anyone starts, I'm not against fursuits, in fact for the most part I'm incredibly fond of the cute fuzzy critters, and fursuit hugs are such wonderful things. That said, it makes me feel somewhat aggrieved at the realisation that in order to get noticed at a con, you must be head-to-toe in fluff. Now I made new friends at EF, or rather, met friends in person whom I'd met online, and that was great! Despite this, though, I notice that quite a lot of fursuiters getting a tonne of attention both at EF and on the interwebs afterward. Why? Underneath all the fluff and cutesy eyes they're just the same as me, a regular human being, why such a difference in interest to meet them? Another thing that somewhat bugs me is how it's almost impossible to meet someone you know as a fursuiter out of fursuit at a con unless you're close enough friends with them to both know 1) where their hotel room is, 2) their contact details, and 3) what they look like out of suit. There were quite a few people I'd have loved to meet out of suit at EF, yet because I knew none of the three things mentioned above, I went home not having met them, which makes me rather sad.

Of course I know the answer to that question, as do most others, but I do sometimes worry about how shallow a lot of furries come across when it comes to situations like this. People spoke to me at EF like I was just a regular guy, which I am, I'm nothing special. Yet at the same time, neither is the person wearing Mr Wufflepants (made up name by the way, just in case anyone wondered if I was referencing a real person), yet he's strutting around at a convention and suddenly everyone's nursing a semi whilst exclaiming "Aieeee that suit is adorable! I have to go talk to him!" And it just makes me wonder if my own motto of "you don't need a fursuit to be accepted into the fandom" is actually true or not. From the evidence I saw at EF (and indeed at previous furmeets and conventions), I would say that actually, you do need one.

Once again, this is NOT intended as a rant against fursuiters. Seriously, the way you guys entertain both furries and the general public alike is truly magnificent. I just feel that maybe quite a lot of furries nowadays are seeing fursuits as either a key to popularity, or worse, a criteria for friendship, both with and as a fursuiter. Which, obviously, is not a good thing.

I've come to the realisation that I don't talk to nearly enough people on instant messengers, so I figured it was time to change that.
