FC report
Posted 14 years agoOk, so now that I'm done with my travels in the US I can post a report of sorts. There were plenty of great things about the trip, sadly there were also plenty of bad things too.
Good things included hanging out with some awesome people such as
lionheart1125, 
motoash, 
lyonlover, 
kivulii, 
djwolf, 
t-wolf, 
zatodragon, 
pamfer, 
cryn, 
skuma and many more! :3 It was also lovely to meet 
terra and 
jakebazaar whom I shared a room with, and it was awesome of Terra to draw us a sign for our room door! I hope I can meet you all again at future cons! I also got to visit some old friends in Oregon after the con and to also spend a day in Orlando's Downtown Disney before my flight home. :)
Bad things included getting the most drunk I have ever been in the history of anything, thus leading to me being punched in the face as well as losing all my conbadges and my glasses! The badges I'm slightly annoyed about losing, given that a few of them were ones that I cannot get reprinted. Losing my glasses was even more annoying as it meant that for the rest of my trip, my vision was severely impaired which was pretty shit for me. Though most of all I'm pretty pissed at myself for allowing it to happen as it pretty much put a downer on the rest of the con. Though in a way I'm glad it happened as it'll teach me to be more careful in future!
As for attendance at future US cons, it'll be a while before I'm able to travel out to those again. I just loaned a ton of money off my dad in order to pay off my credit card so I'll be financially challenged for the next few years. This pretty much goes for all cons to be honest, I'm even giving ConFuzzled a miss this year even though it's only about 2 hours away from me! Needless to say though, I shall be at another con before you know it!

Posted 14 years agoI had a great time! It was so lovely to catch up with old friends and meet some new folk :) Shame I am now catastrophically ill, most likely either a result of being so overtired or I caught some form of concrud. Either way, I'm now "morting" as my dad would put it XD

Posted 14 years agoSo, last night a fur called Snack/Dark Racoon, a fur I had the pleasure of meeting in person, passed away, I've no evidence to support the CoD either way but it's widely believed it was suicide. As well as most likely a family and an absolute mountain of friends judging by the kind words said about him on Twitter last night, he also left behind a lover which brought back a lot of bad memories for me.
On Monday 5th June 2006, I travelled to my then boyfriend's place after work to find him dead after taking a lorry-load of pills and booze. To this day I don't know why he did it, but what I do know is that it completely destroyed my life, his parents' lives and the lives of all his friends. For about a month afterwards I couldn't sleep, I couldn't eat, I couldn't think or do anything. Partly this was down to my inability at dealing with such situations, but also because I literally had NO-ONE to turn to. I was fairly new and inactive in the fandom at that time and the only two non-fur friends I had didn't know about my sexuality. I was therefore left to deal with everything on my own, and about 3 weeks afterwards I made an attempt to follow him. Thankfully I was unsuccessful and, with time, I rebuilt myself.
Fast forward to today, and I'm pretty sure Ollie (Snack's lover) is going through similar to what I did just over 5 years ago, so I am asking you all to make sure that (especially if you know/knew either of them) to add your messages of support, as Ollie will need all the support and friendship he can get, give him the help I didn't get. From what I saw on Twitter last night, he has about half the fandom wishing him well, which is lovely to see.
To anybody considering similar actions, don't. Just don't. You might think you won't be missed, but I would put serious money on you being wrong. Everyone would be missed by at least someone, it really isn't worth it.

Posted 14 years agoYa, so a month ago I posted a journal explaining how I'd screwed up regarding flights to CA for next year's FC. Well I figured y'all could use an update...
First off, I kept the flights to Florida as they were...I figured it was far better to have flights half way there than to have no flights and no money to buy new ones, so on Jan 11th I'm flying from the UK for Orlando. Fine, ok.
Now, I have just bought my flights from Orlando to San Jose (with a transfer in Salt Lake City) the following day, these have cost me £220. So, added to the £430 I spent on my flights to FL, my grand total comes to £650 ($1,060). That's roughly £125 more than I spent to get to FC this year, though the upside is that I'm flying into San Jose this time as opposed to San Francisco (anyone who knew what happened to me will know why I'm reluctant to fly into SFO again).
I'm also glad to have kept my flights to Florida because it means I can fly from a more local airport, this year I had to travel for 6 hours down to London to get a flight from Heathrow. This means that an expensive overnight stay in the capital won't be necessary this time, which I'm happy about.
So in short, things are pretty much sorted...I'm a little worse off financially but for peace of mind it's completely worth it. Thanks to all those who offered support to my panicking in my last journal and over IMs, much appreciated. :)
Now, onto the most important question. Whom shall I be seeing at FC? :D

Basically what happened was that I was under the impression that a friend of mine would be living in Florida by January, so the plan I formed in my head was that I would fly there (main reason being it's easier and cheaper) and then we could both fly to FC together. So yesterday I acted on the assumption that said friend would be living there and went ahead and bought the flights.
However, my friend signed on later last night and informed me that he might not be moving back to Florida after all, thus rendering my flights to Florida effectively useless. I have sent a refund request to the airline to see if they can give me my money back, but being the pessimist I am I really don't hold out much hope of that. I am faced with the very real and terrifying possibility of having no flights and being £430 (US$690) out of pocket if they choose to cancel my flights but not refund me, which is what happened last time I was forced to cancel a flight.
Needless to say, if this does happen, then FC is no longer an option for me, I can barely afford this trip as it is. The only reason I was going was because it was going to be my final trip before knuckling down to pay off all of my debt, and in particular to meet the aforementioned friend.
I'm a complete and utter tool, I acted on information that wasn't 100% guaranteed and without consultation and now I could end up paying the ultimate price (literally). I also feel really guilty because I made my friend feel bad about the whole situation, when it is in no way their fault.
I just hope the airline take kindly to my story and if no refund is possible that they let me keep my flights, so I have at least something left. I don't even want to think about how I'd react if I were left without money or flights.

The room is a double double (two double beds) in the Hilton on a general floor (not party or fursuit) from 12th thru 15th - so would be suitable for 1 fur or a couple to share the other bed.
