Back to Old Pencils
General | Posted 12 years agoJeez... It's been weeks since I posted a journal, or anything really. Well, at lot has happened. Summer school, sister moving in for the summer, my sanity and social life gradually slipping as the days seem to blend together. All of that can be really draining I'll say. The only time I really feel at ease is at my job.
Hey guys. Over the last year I haven't really done much in terms of drawing. I think the main cause of the problem is the difficulty with my equipment. One problem I have is my current screen tablet. I've tried everything, but the screen's color is so offset from what's on a normal monitor. I tried working with it for months but to no avail... At this point, I'm thinking of selling my current tablet. I'm gonna go back to colored pencils like I did up to two years ago. When I went to Japan, carrying a tablet with me was nice and convenient, but now that I have my big five-year-old box of colored pencils back, I feel like that style resembles me the most. So I'm gonna go back to drawing in that medium for the time being. Maybe I'll put what I earn from my tablet into buying a new lens to film my cooking show? I have the first episode shot, and it will be coming later this month, so stay tuned!

General | Posted 12 years ago I got another job! The current one I had was a work study job on campus, so the end of the semester meant I was left without a job for the summer. Well, long behold, my favorite restaurant opened up for a job! As of now, I am working as a dish washer for Watanabe's. The Japanese restaurant across the street from the high school. I'm starting as a dish washer anyways, after a couple months I may start working in the kitchen. I'm so happy that I managed to get another job so quickly! ^..^

General | Posted 12 years agoUgh... I can't sleep at the moment. Not because of this incident I'm going to talk about, but because a) It's finals week so I'm anxious as hell. And b) I'm feeling a little sick. So I figured I would tell this story to pass the time. This is not a rant, mind you, but a mere recap of the events that happened. I plan to make a collection of stories as I get used to the art of fursuiting.
We have this local meet, twice a month, every second and fourth Sunday. This most recent meet I decided to take my suit out for a spin again. All was well, pretty well. I got some interesting looks as always and the younger kids were waving or walking up to me out of curiosity.
But then, out of nowhere, three preteens show up, start violently yanking my tail and all around harassing me for what seemed like no apparent reason at all. One of the little shits had his iPhone going like he was trying to get a video of the whole thing.
In all seriousness, I wanted to smack them upside the head. I would have, actually. There is one major problem. I am 21, while they were about ten years younger than me. Ontop of wearing a fursuit that was already grabbing a lot of attention, if I even scratched one of those little stinkers I would have been in a world of shit. So all I could do was stand there and tough it out.
The leader of those kids actually happened to be the younger brother of one of the high school furries at the meet. He went after his brother, dragged the little monster across the food court in a headlock and tried to make him apologize. All we got out of the kid was "gator bitch." Even though I'm a lizard. xD It was funny to see him get his just desserts. Sadly some random asshole yelled at the fur rather than his brother who started the whole thing.
Either way, I can't say I'm emotionally scarred from this event. Why would I make a huge deal out of a bunch of stupid 6th graders? In fact, I was quite amused by it. Later, after the whole scandal, those three kids were actually kicked out of the mall. When they snuck back in, the aforementioned high school fur made them shit their pants with fear over the one thing a preteen dreads. Being told on. I seriously hope they learn to think twice, though at their age I seriously doubt that.
So that's my first nasty encounter while fursuiting. I'm sure I'll have a lot more interesting stories to tell in the future. One can only hope. xD

Missoula Trip Overview
General | Posted 12 years agoYesterday I came back from an awesome trip to Missoula. I made camp at
lionlotus's place. Thanks again!
Most of the time was spent out on the town or with other furs. The first night there we hung out with
montanawerewolf and
luxoriri at their place. Had some pizza, watched Life of Pi and had a pretty good time just socializing. Thanks for the pizza, and thanks for letting us crash for the night. I had an awesome time. ^..^
The next day we spent downtown.
lionlotus showed me around and we went to this awesome bagel shop for lunch. But we really had fun later that night when we got together at the bowling alley with Lux, Werewolf, Rose and Mustang. This was also when I met
~ace~ for the very first time, and I have to say, it was a real honor to finally meet her! Bowling in my fursuit for the first time was fun, even though I didn't do as well as I could have been. xD Later that night we went to Denny's and did some goofing off. Indulging in rather unhealthy food like bacon milkshakes. xP
After checking out of Lion's place, before I went home, I caught up with Ace again to discuss plans for the summer. Talked about setting up meets, and a major plan I've already had in the works about a big meet at Fairmont. The night before I didn't really have a chance to get to know her, so it was nice to see her one last time before I left. ^..^
Overall, I had a really great time! I'm gonna put up a few photos later today, and hope fully I can make another effort to visit in the summer! Hopefully my job and saving up for RainFurrest won't get in the way of that.

Off to Missoula Tomorrow!
General | Posted 12 years agoWell, tomorrow I'm going off on a road trip to Missoula. Given the amount of focus needed for the last two weeks of the semester I need a change of scenery before putting my snout to the grindstone. I'm not entirely sure what the zoofurs have in mind, whether it be bowling or iHop, but I hope to have fun. ^..^ I'd like to thank
lionlotus for offering a place to sleep. I should make it to town by early evening tomorrow. I'll be staying all day Saturday before setting off for home on the afternoon of Sunday. I'm really looking forward to this!

General | Posted 12 years agoMore like who the hell would do this? A live feed of the event can be found here with constant updates: http://live.huffingtonpost.com/r/se.....8c2a771f000115
But seriously. Who the hell would plant bombs at a marathon? Two people are dead and over 70 injured. On top of that, one of the casualties was 8 years old. I seriously hope they find the cruel bastards who did this. And soon. My heart goes out to the people who were affected by this recent and unexpected tragedy.

Saturday Party Reminder
General | Posted 12 years agoJust wanted to remind everybody of the potluck party I'm having this Saturday night. The time is still the same, 8pm-Midnight. Ages 21 and up because of alcohol. Once again, if you need directions please don't be afraid to drop a note!
One week left until the party!
General | Posted 12 years agoSadly, it looks like there's a bit of a conflict with a meet in Missoula. So we might not get as many people from out of town as expected. Getting Missoula and Bozeman together, (and possibly the whole state) will be taken care of on a much later date. Still, that doesn't mean us Bozeman furs still can't have fun!
It's still the same time, same day. Potluck party on Saturday, April 13th at my place. 8pm-midnight. For ages 21 and up ONLY! There will be booze! Feel free to send me a note about directions if needed!

Adult Party on the 13th!
General | Posted 12 years agoEDIT: Given the amount of time it would take to drive from Missoula, if anybody makes plans to come down here, I decided to move it ahead another day to Saturday night instead of Friday night.
Given how the last plan for an adult meet was of such short notice and the month of March was completely insane, I'm going to plan this two weeks in advance. On the night of Saturday April 13th, I'm planning to hold a potluck at my place for the adult furries. Once again this is an adult meet for those 21 and over, because of the presence of alcohol. Given that this is a potluck, the only catch is bring food. xP The party will go from 8pm till midnight. With luck I could get some of the
Missoulafurs to join us. If any friends from Missoula are reading this, I have two empty rooms and a couch to crash on. If anybody's interested in spending the night in Bozeman, we will be having a public meet at the mall on Sunday. Fursuiters are welcome!

The ink problem
General | Posted 12 years agoOkay, I ordered an inexpensive airbrush gun and a quick fix alternative to a compressor. Now I need to figure out what kind of ink I need to order. I checked out the fursuit livejournal and somebody recommends screen printing ink for synthetic fabric. Anyway, I was wondering if anybody here had some suggestions? I would appreciate it! Thanks!
In Desperate Need of an Airbrush...
General | Posted 12 years agoWell, the spandex bodysuit I'm using in my scalysuit came in today. There is one unfortunate problem though... The suit I got isn't the same shade of green as what I was expecting. So I've been busting my ass trying to change the colors only to come up short. Dyes won't work because it's entirely synthetic, but I got somewhere when I bought some fabric paint and rubbed it in. Unfortunately rubbing it in is time-consuming and uneven. So if there is anybody in town who knows where I could borrow or at least rent the equipment. Buying one seems unnecessary if I'm only going to use it once...
The "About Me" Meme!
General | Posted 12 years agoGrabbed this off of
SiloS a long time ago. Finally had a chance to paste it up!
1. We all know what we call you, what about the folks at home? What's your name?
Tanner. That's it. No, I'm not my fursona, my fursona is me. xP
2. How tall are you?
Six feet even
3. Natural hair color?
Deep Dark Red
4. What about eye color?
Green.
5. What orientation are you?
Straighter than I-90 in North Dakota. But I'm a straight advocate for LGBT rights.
6. Are you single, taken, or undecided?
Single.
7. What do you do in your spare time?
Play video games, draw, take photos, walk, cook, cook for friends.
8. What's your job?
Videocam technician for the videoconference classes on campus. Nothing much to it.
9. What's one thing you like about yourself?
Hmm… I would, but I don't want to come off as bragging. xD Maybe that I'm somewhat extroverted? Depends on the time, place, and people.
10. Alright, now what about something you dislike about yourself?
That I overthink the hell out of everything.
11. What's some things your friends noticed about you when they first met you?
That I'm a ginger?
12. Of what faith/religion are you(if any at all?)
Atheist. Yeah, I don't believe in ghosts, I think homeopathy is a scam, and I don't go to church on Sunday. And I like it that way!

Not really, if at all.

17. Ever had any crushes/ex's in the past/present?
Strictly confidential.
18. Who's your best bud?
Seriously? I'd feel bad for answering that question. I have many best buds and I don't want to single anybody out.
19. Alright, you got the cravin' for munchies, what'cha reachin' for?

21. Favorite color?
Dark green
22. If you had any super power, what would it be?
Time travel/manipulation.
23. Favorite movie?
*stares at long list of sci-fi, action, animated and cult flicks* Oh shit…
24. Least favorite food?
Squid and any kind of mollusk. Uck...
25. Quick! You have only one meal left before you die!!! What is it?
Kumamoto, Hakata, Kyoto, and Sapporo style ramen, one helping each, a platter of gyoza, a platter of nigiri, both a Kansai and Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, takoyaki, yakitori, taiyaki, gyudon, curry, three char siu buns, a platter of fried rice, spring rolls, every kind of Chinese dumpling known to man, Chinese roasted duck, an egg tart, a pineapple bun, pulgogi, galbi, bibimbap, kimchi, smoked spare ribs, an entire tenderloin, a grilled cheese sandwich, a bacon cheeseburger, a shitload of painkillers, and a partridge in a pear tree. Because if I'm inevitably going to die that night, I'm offing myself with a bang. Or a "KAPLORTCH!" One of the two will happen. xD
26. What do you drive/wish you drove?

Hmm… I would, but I don't want to come off as bragging. xD Maybe that I'm somewhat extroverted? Depends on the time, place, and people.
10. Alright, now what about something you dislike about yourself?
That I overthink the hell out of everything.
11. What's some things your friends noticed about you when they first met you?
That I'm a ginger?
12. Of what faith/religion are you(if any at all?)
Atheist. Yeah, I don't believe in ghosts, I think homeopathy is a scam, and I don't go to church on Sunday. And I like it that way!
13. Do you drink?
Hell yeah!
14. Do you smoke?
Not really, if at all.
15. What are your fears?
Giant goddamn Japanese hornets.
16. What are your dreams/goals?
Well, as of several years ago I've been wanting to graduate college and become an English teacher in Japan.
Noodles? And maybe whatever's living in the fridge?
20. Favorite drink?
Sake, warm or chilled, whiskey straight, whiskey on the rocks, whiskey in ginger ale, shochu, and green tea.
2002 Ford Ranger. If I can get it converted to an alternative energy source or at least a stick shift even better.
27. Most disliked bug?
Didn't I list giant Japanese hornets under my biggest fear?
28. Most hated pet peeves?
It wasn't until I went to Japan and came back that I realized how big of a wallet-burner Montana winters are. I hate driving in town.
29. Dislike in life?
The backwards academic system. The best way to learn is to make mistakes, so why are they so stigmatized by our current grading system?
30. Most annoying?
Meh, I got nothing.
31. Most disliked TV show?
Is it cliche to say Honey Boo Boo?
FurIdaho Was Awesome! And Rainfurrest.
General | Posted 13 years agoI have to say, this was the most fun I've ever had in a long time. I made a ton of new friends, ran into
EleniRaine who was wearing quite possibly the most adorable fursuit at the con. And I stopped by
jagdwolf's panel a couple times.
I shared a hotel room with the awesome couple
luxoriri and her mate,
montanawerewolf. I had an awesome time hanging out and Lux had such an adorable fursuit! I can't thank you both enough for splitting the hotel costs and everything. I'm definitely looking forward to having an equally fun if not better time at Rainfurrest in the fall!
As for the overall con, it was small. Very small. But that's fine by me. I actually got the same impression from when I visited my first anime con three years ago. Not too overwhelming for a starting con, but definitely lots to do and lots of fun to be had!
A lot of people were talking about how terrible it was the year before. And a lot of complaints were about the excess of pony stuff last year. Well, to those who decided not to attend this year for that purpose, I have good news. The amount of pony stuff I saw at their second con I only had to count on one hand. I was right in giving them the benefit of the doubt and it all worked out because upon arriving it had the atmosphere of what I expected a real furry con to be. Fursuit parade, talent show, fursuit olympics, legitimately furry panels and events.
Overall, I had a real blast at FurIdaho. It's a great little con that any first time con-goers like myself should attend as an introduction to the hobby. I made friends with plenty of the con attendees, and even some of the awesome artists in the dealers den! And while I feel a little depressed that it went by so quickly, I still have plenty of things planned for the coming year. I'm building a suit of my own, and over the summer I will be saving up for Rainfurrest this fall. Once again, I want to thank the staff of FurIdaho, all of my new friends, and the badass con ops for making my time at this con an enjoyable one. I will definitely be attending next year! Peace!

The First Day
General | Posted 13 years agoBoy am I so glad I didn't take other people's words for it. This year's FurIdaho WASN'T another Bronycon! Sorry, but all the speculations were dead wrong. Yes, there were probably two or three people who had pony shirts. But it damn well felt like what I expected a furry convention to be. About the appreciation for a broad variety of anthros in general. I'll say it again, this is NOT another bronycon and I can now vouch for this personally. F**k yeah!
I had an awesome time, made some new friends, met some cool people and overall my first ever con is really satisfying so far.
I honestly can't wait for tomorrow to come! This is the most fun I've had in a long time!

Off to FurIdaho!
General | Posted 13 years agoWell, less than six hours before I hop in my truck and drive off to my first furry con in Boise.
Yes, I heard the first FurIdaho last year went down in a blaze of ponies, but I'm not going to let other people's opinions sway me and give the second year the benefit of the doubt. Looking at their site this year it seems like they have more of their stuff together. So I'm willing to give them a chance with my fingers crossed.
And hey, if it winds up being another Bronycon, there's always RMFC to look forward to. If I can survive driving in Denver. xD

Concept for a Partial Suit. Any Advice?
General | Posted 13 years agoHey everybody! As of late, I've been thinking about making a partial scaly suit for the next time I go to a convention. What I want to do is make a 3-part suit including a skin-tight undershirt, a tail, and a head.
The biggest obstacle I'm facing seems to be how I can make the undershirt. I need something skin-tight that allows my skin to breathe. Something that I can wear a T-shirt over. One problem I'm having is how I can make the sleeves. They have to reach all the way out to cover my hands like gloves. A funny way of putting this shirt into perspective would be like pantyhose for your arms. xP
I think I have the tail pretty much squared away in terms of who and what to look for. But another problem on my mind is the head. A standard fursuit head would most likely be too large proportion-wise if the rest of my suit is going to be skin-tight. For that I'm considering the idea of tighter-fitting head. A mask probably?
Anywho, if you or someone you know has any experience in making these kinds of partial suits, any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

General | Posted 13 years agoFurIdaho!
General | Posted 13 years agoHeyall! I just placed a registration for my first ever furry convention! I'm going on a road trip to Boise for FurIdaho at the start of spring break! Now, I need to talk to anybody else who plans to go. I was wondering if anybody would like to carpool or share a hotel room. If we get enough people we can split the gasoline and hotel bill between everybody.
I can fit two people in my truck so if anybody is interested feel free to drop me a note!

Ugh... Scratch the 24th.
General | Posted 13 years agoI'm sure it would be even more unlikely for those who are busy on Christmas Day. But it looks like that will have to be the case. Due to intercepting plans with my family on that day, it looks like we would have to change it over from dinner on the 24th to lunch on the 25th. Feel free to drop me a note if you're still interested!
Visiting Fur on the 24th
General | Posted 13 years agoI know everybody probably has plans on Christmas Eve, but if anybody doesn't, they're more than welcome to meet
deaconstrucTEF and I at the Bamboo Garden restaurant on Main Street at around 5:30. Time will be a little short as there is a Christmas party I'll be taking him to, but if anybody's interested in an early dinner, feel free to give me a holler! Tef is visiting all the way from Vancouver, Canada and is very interested in meeting some of the local furs.

General | Posted 13 years agoHey everybody. The other day I told
bandaid406 about the idea of making movie night twice a month. Every first and last Saturday of the month, unless there are occasions like Holidays. I plan on starting it this coming weekend. I'm not sure about the last Saturday of November though, as it is Thanksgiving weekend. I won't be going anywhere for it, so depending on who's busy we may or may not have it. If not, we'll pick it up on the first weekend in December. If anybody's interested, feel free to drop me a note! This weekend's theme is foreign films!
Starting at 6pm, we'll go through about two or three movies.

Movie Night Tomorrow!
General | Posted 13 years agoTo all my watchers from Bozeman and the Montana area, I'm making an effort to start a Saturday movie night on the weekends we don't have a meet at the mall. So every 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturday of the month at my place. I apologize for it being such short notice, but I had
Bozemanfurs post a journal about it and made an announcement on the Gallatin Furs forum, so I figured it was high time I posted a journal here.
This weekend there will be a horror movie theme given that it's October. You're free to bring a movie so we have more to choose from. The time it starts is 6pm. The reason I chose Saturday is for more flexibility regarding when we can end it. Feel free to drop me a note regarding the location! There will be popcorn!
