TBND 3.... soooon..... sooooooooooonnn

I've had a bit of a time of it since the last update of TBND. Life, health and work have been taking me for a bit of a spin really. However, things *are* looking up just lately and while I am still working through a backlog of stuff, I am at least more organised about what needs to be completed this year.
The good news is that TBND3 now has a definite deadline. That deadline is Confuzzled 2012 (probably the 1st or 2nd weekend of May) and that deadline isn't just for the art to be completed, but for the whole comic to be in production and available for purchase.
I know that does make it seem like I'm giving myself a very generous deadline, but the fact of the matter is that I have to cut down rather drastically on the amount of drawn work I'm producing to make sure my wrist injury doesn't keep flaring up as it has over the past year.
So what else keeps me from TBND? There's many things, but I do fit it into my working week around other projects. Currently the other stuff is:
Commissions
these always take precedence, they're for paying customers after all.
Special Commissions
I've been experimenting with commissions to specific deadlines with specific content. Seems to be going well thus far. Again, these are for paying customers so have a priority.
Other Comics
There's always other comics in the works. At one point I was going to ditch comics entirely after TBND 3 because, to be honest, the amount of money they make doesn't justify the work that goes into them. However, there is a demand for more comics from me and the more I get the more the older comics seem to sell, so perhaps it's just a case of building up a decent comic portfolio.
Other Stuff
Every now and then something will come up that isn't covered by the above. This is low priority stuff and is usually fitted in around other more important items but as is the nature of the creative mind, sometimes you just have to get that idea out of your brain and onto the paper or it'll drive you mad.
The biggest change for TBND updates is going to be the loss of regular schedule. Whenever I try to instigate a regular update schedule it ends up not working, it's far better for me to produce the comic and not release anything until it's completed than to try and squeeze out a page every week or fortnight. So if there's a further TBND book after 3 I'll complete the whole thing offline before updating any of the pages. The only exception would be for getting your input on characters or posting teaser artwork at key stages of the comic's completion.
Hopefully this brings you all up to date and lets you know that while nothing is happening with TBND right this minute something will be soon. There's still lots of story in the TBND world that can be told so I'm hoping to tell that to you one day, just not today, I've got stuff to do ;)

Shhhh.... it's sleeping
Posted 15 years agoTBND has gone into hibernation for a while. The reality of recent events, including my workload, have meant that I don't have the time or motivation to work on TBND.
Hopefully 2011 will see book three moving along again and in print. We shall see.
Book 3 will be the last in the current story arc of TBND and whether or not I pick it up at a later date will be decided at a later date.

I've got 19 items on my paid commission list that I'm working through while also working on getting my car ready for its MoT and revising for passing my driving test (theory and practical) and a number of other time consuming but necessary jobs.
This means that TBND, being something that's not going to really help my income at all, is taking a major back seat for a while... I don't know how long for though.
If TBND generated more cash I'm sure I'd put more effort into it, but this isn't a catch 22 since when I *do* put more effort into it more cash is not generated... so I think TBND will always be low on my list of priorities.
HOWEVER I will not be abandoning you all, just letting you know what's going off with me and why it's taking so long to get that update I promised out to you. So much for my revised schedule of updates.

New Update Schedule & TBND 4
Posted 15 years agoRight, that's all the post-convention stuff out of the way so I'm going to set up a new update schedule to get TBND back on track (yay!).
Next update will be Friday 21st May and then once every fortnight thereafter.
So you should receive TBND updates on the following dates:

And so on and so forth until this book is finished. At the end of book 3 we're taking a bit of a meander in the TBND world to investigate some of the other characters you've met. I've already got plans afoot to give Colt Bramwell his own book but here's a list of other possible contenders:

Confuzzled - Are you going?
Posted 15 years agoI'm going to start making a regular entry to remind people that I shall be at the Confuzzled convention in Manchester (that's in the North of the UK) on the 7th of May this year. I'm attending primarily as a trader, but will be open to socialising after I've done my work for the day.
If for some reason you wanted to meet me, then would be a good opportunity. I've sunk more money than I expected I'd have to into the convention, so I'm hoping it will be worth it and am trying to convince myself that I will enjoy it no matter what.
Happily, I'll be sharing accomodation with
daktalis whom I haven't seen for far too long so that will make me feel a little more comfortable with the whole situation.
I'll have framed and unframed original artwork, prints, keyrings, handmade toys... all sorts of stuff. As long as postage happens in time, I should even have some comics to sell too and if I run out of stock I'll be sure to take orders. I'll be taking commissions too though only completing sketch commissions at the convention, any full colour and/or inked commissions will be on a strictly take-home basis.
Oh... and I should have a mini-raffle for a noisy tiger plush, so keep an eye out for that.

I'm nearly sorted out for the convention now, and I'm close to getting all of my commissions under control too. I've been far too busy with these two things to be able to do any work on TBND, for shame.
At the very latest, there will be an update in May as that's when I get back from the con (providing Con Crud doesn't kill me, which it probably will...) but I'm very much hoping to have a page finished before I go in about 5 weeks time.
Until then, keep watching this space, I haven't forgotten about or abandoned TBND, I've just not had time to do any work on it.

Posted 15 years agoThe next TBND update is due tomorrow, but I probably won't be able to get to the PC due to other commitments.
Therefore, the update will happen late today or sometime on Saturday, depending how well the pre-upload processing goes and how reliable my decidedly dodgy internet connection decides to be.

Disabled furry characters
Posted 15 years agoI'm thinking of introducing a new character, but I'm not sure what, or how, just yet. I really want to introduce a character that is disabled, ideally one that is very visibly so such as an amputee or wheelchair bound.
My only concern is that people may read more into it than I want. I've known one or two disabled people in my life, both of the physical and psychological variety, but it's something rarely depicted in furry artwork. A lot of the goals behind TBND have been to expose the slightly more real side of furry life, to show that we like 'manimals' but essentially we are just people.
How would you feel about seeing a disabled character appear in TBND?
Would it put you off reading, or would you want to read more?
Are there any particular disabilities you'd like to see explored sensitively through TBND?

TBND Free Art Winner
Posted 15 years agoAs you will recall, back on the 7th January 2010 I set up a competition giving you, the readers, the opportunity to win free artwork.
The winner of the competition is ulrich with his second suggestion which I shall be composing as a special, 'snapshot memory' page.
The curious thing is that Ulrich seemed to pull an idea out of my head I planned to release further down the line in a special TBND comic focusing solely on "Randy" Colt Bramwell and how he got to where he is now... so I'll be in touch, Ulrich, since you managed to hit the nail on the head with both your suggestions.
There were four very strong contenders for this one:

1) Background explaining how Randy Colt found out that he´s gay, the first person who seduced him or what attracted him in males.
2) To show some of Colt's former lovers (the "shallow" ones, he gave a card) that disappointed him and how they disappointed him and what make them different from his new "Adonis".

1) A meet-up between Tom and Noel Corneille (Okapi, chemist) from the GeeGees Anthology at a seafront tea shop. The older corneille I see as being the likely progression from his 16/18 year old version, think classy goth: long hair tied back,, designer glasses, long black frock-coat. However you feel the 26 year old version should look.
2) The impromptu hen-night Juan strip with a slightly inebriated Tom making a comment regarding bongos. The shocked/cheering females can be implied, flung bra perhaps :P

Posted 15 years agoI'm working on the next page for your viewing pleasure... I've got a fuckton of work on at the moment, not helped by the amount of time I had to have off at the end of 2009.
I have a plan though, so I should be able to keep on track mostly with the old fortnightly schedule for TBND. Ideally, I want the next page out on Friday 8th of January, but it's more likely that it will be Friday the 15th of January.

Next Update?
Posted 16 years agoTBND is slipping well behind schedule and I'm not sure when I can pick it up again. As always, when work piles up (this time thanks to that back injury I had that put me out of action for a month) TBND is the first to hit the back burner.
I will update again, TBND isn't abandoned, I just don't know when the next update will be. I'm not sure readers need this status report though, nobody has been yelling at me to get more pages out.... which in a way is nice, takes the pressure off.

TBND Delay... Maybe
Posted 16 years agoI'm not sure if I'll get the TBND update out today or if it will be later this week. On Friday of last week I pulled something in my back, at the same time my wisdom teeth decided they needed more room and my internet decided to go on holiday.
So.. this means I'm mostly in pain between ibuprofen doses and being hunched over a desk doesn't help. I expect that if I do get the art done on time, I won't be able to get online to post it... so... apologies in advance.
Still, I'll do my best to get it out. There's a big change to the artwork and the page is taking me a couple of hours longer than usual, but I think it'll be worth it.

In the TBND stories thus far sex between the characters has been hinted at or carefully cropped to keep the rating lower than it might otherwise be. I believe sex is definitely an important part of any relationship for a variety of reasons either for it's presence or absence and sometimes both. However, I know there have been grumblings about this hinting and cropping but I may well have a solution.
I'm considering compiling a special Behind The Scenes edition of TBND, showing in full detail some of the antics the characters have got up to. I know everyone wants to see some Randy Colt action, so that's a given, but is there anything else you might like to see?
Even if it's not on track for the storyline, I don't mind. I'm just curious about what you, the reader, wants to see.
This special edition would be the same size as the other TBND comics, released after book 3 (which should complete the current story arc) and be the same price.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this one.

Honestly and truthfully, I've got the page ready and everything... well, apart from scanning it but as long as my scanner doesn't blow up that won't be an issue.
What's more, I've got the page after that underway too now that I'm back on my old updating system so there should be an update a fortnight after Monday too.
It'll be weird, seeing TBND updated regularly again...
